I would highly recommend these guys a reasonable price to go fishing on a charter boat. 1st I have to make mention of the first mate Duncan what a great kid and very knowledgeable. He did a great job of untangling my line when I messed it up and he also helped my wife when she caught a saw fish. I also have make mention of the Captain Alice she put is on top of the fish and if they weren't biting she would move us to another spot immediately. She lies her stuff. Once again I would highly recommend them. The also clean and fillet you catch so you can bring it home or to a restaurant and have them cook it. This is a great party boat that I highly recommend. I have been a fishing addict most of my 30 years of life and have worked in the fishing industry in retail, shows, seminars, and personal instruction. I have fished with many guides and been on my share of party boats, and I give two thumbs up to this operation. I went on Sailors Choice on two consecutive afternoon trips 7/2 & 7/3/2017. These trips are 1:30pm-5:30pm. One of the most important things is that the mates, Rich and Dustin (at least for this trip) were experienced, friendly, attentive, and hard working despite the meager & uncertain pay (tips) that party boat mates receive. They busted their butts, did protocol, rushed to assist patrons if they weren't already helping somebody, and cleaned everyone's catch. They do a great job with the safety and instruction drill at the beginning of the trip, and will give you fishing tips if you need. Fishing on day 1 was really good, and everyone caught fish to keep. Most of these were white grunts or small groupers, nothing big but good fun and eating if you get a few. I caught a few grunts but also some nice yellowtail, losing one at the boat but keeping 3. One was a nice fish around 16"-17". We fished in 75-95' of water. Day 2 was a little bit quieter fishing, but the variety was different with mutton snapper, red grouper, strawberry grouper, yellowtail snapper, porgy, and even a giant barracuda. While many patrons caught some tiny fish, this trip had bigger fish caught than day 1. But remember, it's fishing. It's freaking beautiful out on the reef in the Keys and the fish aren't always suicidal. This is an operation that is trying to give you a fun time, a safe time, put you on fish, and do it on a budget. $40 + tax + tip for a fun half day of fishing a gorgeous reef that might supply dinner if you set the hook? My husband and I fished with Capt.Joe and mate Jamie a few weeks ago and we cannot say enough good things about this party boat. We are fisherman and boat owners in Maryland and have fished on many party boats over the years. This is a really, really good one! Boat is very very clean and I have to say it has the cleanest heads we've ever seen. Capt. Joe puts you on fish and works hard to keep you on fish. Jamie works his tail off helping everyone. This is definitely my choice !! Coming down to Key Largo now 5 years and fishing a lot, without a doubt Sailors Choice is great Capt. Joe only want his guest to catch and he moves around until you do. Doug his mate is awesome, I can't say enough about this guy, hard working polite respectful just a great all around guy. My family and I drove down from South Miami on Memorial Day Weekend so traffic was pretty bad, in addition to the two accidents. We called Sailors Choice and informed them and they were very professional, helpful and polite. We booked on the website. Even though on the website it states that hey do not do rescheduling, they generously offered to reschedule us, if we weren't able to make it on time. We arrived at 1:35 (1:30 was our scheduled time), hustled, got our tickets and jumped on the boat. We drove about 5 miles out to the deep sea on a beautiful day! The visibility was fantastic and we saw so much wildlife on the way to our fishing site. We saw several sea turtles, a sailfish, flying fish and other fish. Danny was fantastic and helped teach us how to work the fishing rods. Every time someone caught or thought they caught something, we would yell "Fish On" and he would help us bring the fish up, before we lost it. It was a very hot day and there weren't too many fish biting, but Jamie our captain took us to several different locations. Between the 5 of us that went, 3 of us caught fish. So it definitely was a successful day. Even if we wouldn't have caught anything, the crew were so kind and helpful and it was such a great experience, especially for my first time fishing. At the end of the trip, Danny cut the fish for us and we had ourselves a marvelous dinner that night. read more

So I drive 1:45 min to find out the trip is canceled, then get told the next day it will be going out. Call and they tell me they don't have a boat today... Confused I say that on the website it says clearly FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT . She again says we don't have any charter tonight out next sailings is at some time I don't give a shit about in the morning. Honestly what type of establishment is this? Some sort of joke where they can't be honest. Disgraceful and pathetic I wouldn't waste an ounce of gas going near this wretched place ever again. Get a better staff learn some manners and maybe then you'll have enough people to fill your boat. read more

We took our 12 year old and two 4 year olds on a fishing trip today and it was awesome. The captain was great and was very hands on. The first mate, Josh, was SO FANTASTIC! He helped us, entertained us, and got the whole boat excited about a trip out to sea. We had maybe 20 people on the boat and nearly everyone caught a fish-most of us thanks only to the wonderful crew. Yes, you have to bait your own hook some of the time, but they do everything else-even gut your fish, for free, wow. What a sensational value! read more

What a great day! This trip was worth every penny. The weather was perfect. The captain was superb. Friendly, knowledgeable and great attention to detail. I happen to be left handed and she noticed my difficulty (or perhaps my lack of skill LOL) and asked Devin provide me with a left handed rod!!! Unfortunately the fish were not biting well but sometimes that's how it goes and it's absolutely no fault of the captain or the mate. Some people did catch fish. We were not skunked. The captain tried her very best. She moved us several times and even stayed on the water an hour longer than the allotted time in an effort to find fish. The first mate, Devin, worked like the devil to assist everyone and make sure everyone had what they needed. There were several children on board and as you can imagine fishing and small children can be difficult but the kids did great and Devin was responsible for that. They sell water, beer and soda on board but have coolers of ice if you would like to bring your own. You are welcome to bring your own rod if you prefer but rods/bait are provided. Be sure to bring cash if you go because Devin is paid by tips and he earns every cent. We were out about 5 and a half hours and he never sat down. His assistance is worth your tip dollars. Honestly I had been on this boat a couple of years ago or so and the mate/captain was so rude and uncouth I wasn't looking forward to going back. I'm so glad I gave it another chance. It was such a pleasure to see they had been replaced with courteous professionals. I highly suggest this boat. It's a great value at $40 bucks a person plus tip. read more

Simply put... I have given this boat40 bucks every 6 to 8 weeks for the last 8 years. The boat is clean and quick, the fishing is good as it gets, the trip is always fun, and the Captains and crew are the best in the keys!!! Most party boats are just a trip to the reef for people who already know what they are doing, that is fine but if you want a great family friendly day on the water for absolutely everyone this is the boat for you. Don't be surprised if the captain hooks up a big fish and passes the rod off to you 10 year old to fight it in! I've got three other boats in the keys to choose from and will always choose Sailors Choice. read more

Wow I never expected to be so disappointed about a fishing charter like I did on this boat. I've been on plenty of fishing boats in my life and I know not every time I'm going to catch a fish so I don't get disappointed because of that. The lack of knowledge this captin and first mate had was little to none. Their rigs were awful and there was barely any help. Don't waste your money here. Great trip for the price! We were allowed to bring a cooler so we didn't have to buy on board. There were even water misters! It was very enjoyable. Josh was working hard to keep everyone happy and their lines in the water. All we had to do was bait our hooks with the bait they provided. We caught so many fish we threw some back... kept the Red Grouper and a bunch of porgy and grunts. Definitely earned their tips! read more

Went out on a Monday morning. Boat had about 15 people. Jamie, the first mate, was there by 8:00 a.m. preparing the bait and boat. Nice guy, and a good first mate. The captain, however, arrived about 9:00 a.m. In that the boat was scheduled to leave by 9:00 a.m., this resulted in a departure delay of about 20 minutes. Upon departure we headed straight east about 3 miles and stopped. The only problem was there were no fish there. Typical lazy fishing boat captain maneuver to conserve on gas even though each guest paid $43.00 for a half day trip. After an hour or so, the captain moved the boat about 1/2 mile north. It is now pouring rain but clear a 1/2 mile north and south of us. We waited it out in the rain for an hour or so. The only thing being caught were some very small yellow tail. Back at the dock by 12:40 p.m. The captain made one or two obligatory walks around the deck but otherwise sat in his chair. Just appeared to be lazy and completely uninterested in finding fish to hook. He certainly did save on gas which must make the owners very pleased with his services. Also not really a half-day when boat leaves 20 minutes late and arrived back at the dock at lease 20 minutes early (did the captain think no one would notice). For a $43 half day trip this would be a good deal if the captain actually tried to make it into a real fishing trip. Until then, however, it is a pass. read more

We spent a week in the Keys, January 21-27, 2018. Lots of repairs have been made, and many are still in progress. BUT... what a perfect time to go!! The usual Keys traffic and wait times are way down as people aren't certain of the damage from Hurricane Irma. There was no shortage of fun things to do in the Keys! One of our highlights was a fishing excursion on Sailor's Choice Party Boat. Capt Alice and Crew Chief Doug were outstanding and catered to every need. I could've stayed out there all day long! I called and asked about pricing. A man I spoke with on the phone said nothing about an up charge for using a credit card. When I arrived without cash, an unpleasant and abrasive woman claimed there was no way I spoke to someone other than her and made me feel like I wasn't telling the truth. I checked the number and I did speak with a man at Sailors Choice. If there would have been some clarity, flexibility or friendliness, I would have paid extra with a credit card (which is a hefty extra amount). Please don't make claims that your customers are lying when they are not. The fishing is probably great! read more

This was a blast for my son and me. We were on fish the entire time, and probably reeled in over 2 dozen (lost way more than that..but that is why it is fishing and not catching). I go for punching my ticket on different species rather than size, and was not disappointed...caught a bunch of different fish. The crew was professional, friendly, and non-intrusive (when you've got your fish-zone going on). There were folks all the way from experienced local saltwater anglers to pale Midwestern parents who have not fished since they were a kid with a zebco, bobber and a worm...now trying dragging their young kids to their first fishing experience in saltwater. Guess what, all had a great time, and we all caught fish. The price is more than right...and worth it. Wish we had this kind of fishing in San Diego. We have great fishing here in SoCal, but I really got a kick out of fishing on Sailors Choice on Key Largo. read more

I booked this non refundable trip and drove 60 miles on a sunny monday AM only to have them cancel the trip for lack of people. I walked on and sat on the boat for 10 minutes waiting to shove off, with about 10 other people. Then, a woman came onto the boat and asked me to go check in at the desk. I left the boat and walked to the desk to check in. The lady at the desk then told me the trip was canceled due to lack of customers, but she would refund me for my convenience. Thanks, so convenient to refund me for a trip you canceled. Could have called us to cancel and save us the 120 mile journey and gas, but that would too inconvenient for them. This company is clearly only motivated by $ and does not care about customer service. I could understand if it was raining and 1-2 people had booked, but its a beautiful day with a decent crowd, just go out and if it costs them some $ fine, I'm sure they rake in the $ during the peak season. Bottom line is the bottom line for them, so just go fishing with one of the other companies in the keys, these people are scum. read more

The mates on this boat were terrible! I asked for a Spinning Rod as my Rental & was told there were none meanwhile there were at least 30 on the boat. Finally after I put a Jig Head on the ancient pole they give you to use the Captain came by & set me up with a Spinning Reel so I could float the chum line & try to catch some Yellowtail but only Grunts were in the areas the Capt chose. I've fished all down through the Keys & have went on several different party boats & Charters. This by far is the Worst!
