Up until recently, I had great experiences here. Jen has done 2 tattoos for me and the first two appointments were scheduled and completed with no issues. I loved her work and she was a very pleasant person. 4 years later I came back for another one and had a completely different experience. Struggled to make a consult appointment online and finally had to go in and just ask. After the consult I paid the deposit and we scheduled the appointment. She cancelled on me day of (stuff happens, I wasn't mad) and we rescheduled. The night before the next appointment I was contacted saying it was booked wrong and it couldn't be done. Instead of getting another appointment I was told they were waiting for someone else to confirm then would reach out by end of day. 2 days later I got nothing so I reached out and was told the next available was a month away but they were seeing if they could get me in sooner. I said I wasn't in a hurry and would just feel better with something on schedule because I already paid the deposit. I did not get a response. 2 weeks went by and I decided to go somewhere else because I felt like she wasn't interested. I texted this and was told my appointment was scheduled (never had a confirmation of anything so I never would have known if I didn't text). I was told the deposit was non refundable because of the work she already put in but I was never sent anything so I have no idea if she even drew something or not. When I responded with these points I got radio silence. It's really unfortunate because I was really looking forward to working with her again. I'm not sure what changed but it looks like I'm not the only one who has run into this issue. For reference, when I started to feel unsure about this after the second cancelation and the lack of communication, I went to another shop for a consult. The guy saw me, drew me something and sent it within a day! At least if I didn't move forward with him I have some proof that he actually worked on it. Just food for thought. read more

Very unprofessional. Went in and scheduled a tattoo. Was able to get an appointment over a month out which was expected. Jen ended up canceling last minute. Was rescheduled for the following week just to be canceled on again. Was asked if I could come in next day. I said I could I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't be canceled on again cause I couldn't keep moving things around. I was the canceled all together. Highly unprofessional, extremely disappointing. I went in for a consult with Sailors Ink in May 2024. I booked 2 appts 6 months out in Oct+Nov with Jen. Received a confirmation text a week before our first appt. Just 3 hours before my appt, Jen texts and cancels due to illness. I was very understanding, and we kept our next appt for 2 weeks later. A few days before the appt, I started feeling sick and reached out to Jen, who was unresponsive. Worried I'd lose my appt and my deposit, I committed to going to the appt while still not feeling well, and Jen confirmed she would see me at the appt. That night I was very sick, and had to text Jen in the morning that I'd become too ill to make our appt. She was unresponsive to that text, and my follow up texts to reschedule after recovering from the illness. She has completely ghosted me, and refuses to return my deposit. I thought it was fair to ask for just 50% returned since she cancelled our first appt, and I was sick for the second. Even this was ignored by Jen, and she has retained my complete deposit in silence. After seeing another recent review where she cancelled day-of on another almost client, I wonder if this is typical. I'm so disappointed to have waited half a year for an appointment with Jen, just to be ghosted and have my money taken. read more

After waiting four months, I received a message on the day of the first appointment saying she was unwell. I asked her to reschedule soon to avoid another long wait, but she didn't respond. Today, just hours before the second appointment, she messaged me saying we weren't a good fit and that she felt uneasy about the art. Instead of apologizing for the delay, she mentioned she usually doesn't refund deposits but would make an exception for me. Her tone felt dismissive rather than apologetic. It seems she might lack the creativity needed, possibly relying on more generic designs like stock flowers. PLEASE DO NOT GET PIERCED OR TATTOOD HERE. My friend went to get her belly button pierced there and the new guy what's his name? Jon? Well the piercing should be a curved barbell and when she showed me it was STRAIGHT!!! It was like a barbell you put in your ear! She complained the ball on the bottom was coming off.... Well NO WONDER! We went to el toro body shop for advice and they advised us to take the piercing out let it heal and get it done CORRECTLY later after it's healed. While Jen has a clean shop & is a decent artist... I will no longer be recommending her. When I originally got my tattoos a few yrs ago, she rescheduled on me right before my appointment multiple times. This resulted in my paying a sitter for unneeded time & required me to take yet another day off of work. I was willing to over look that & her not responding to messages, but the deal breaker for me is her unwillingness to touch up her own work. I'm moving out of state & she claims to be booked out for a yr. She's incredibly flaky while being picky about what she feels like working on. It's probably only 30 min to an hr. of touch ups and she can't make that work? This is someone I paid for 4 different tattoos. 5 if you include my BF's and now we feel like we've been blown off. Jen is an absolute pleasure to be around. Alway has a positive and joyful attitude and extremely flexible with her busy schedule. Jen and her team are super responsive via email and text. Her lines are precise and attention to detail is by far the best I've ever come across in the industry. Who ever made the comments about the wait for flash tattoos, keep in mind you are getting a discount and any tattoo place you go around the country there will always be a wait because detail takes time and not everyone's tattoo takes the same amount of time. I do recommend sailor's ink because they had a flash sale when I went and it was such a good deal they even continued it for a day over and I was able to pick two out of about a hundred different tattoos for the flash sale so it was two for $100 I ended up paying two for $150 and I got to say I'm very happy with what I received and the service and the wait time wasn't too bad either. Great customer service they do have water and plenty of seating available for waiting customers. read more

I contacted Jen to do a memorial tattoo for my 16 year old son. I scheduled an appointment two months out, paid my deposit, and even confirmed a few days before. I recieved a text 30 min before my scheduled time from Jen's "assistant" to let me know that she will not be able to keep my appointment. Her reasoning is that the previous client added some things to their piece and she doesnt have time for me. There was no apology, no offer to return my deposit, nor was there any hint of respect for my time wasted. I gave Jen a couple of days to provide a professioal respone to me. I received nothing more from her. I contacted her to see how she would respond to my request for my deposit since she canceled on me and I played no part in the missed appointment. She told me that she forgot to disclaim that my appointment could be canceled due to previous clients and that I will not be recieving my deposit back. Just beware! This place is incredibly unprofessional. I wouldn't put a deposit if you're a new client, because she clearly has no respect for new clients. read more

I've been tattooed here a few times and she does decent work. The two stars are, because my appointment for another piece was rescheduled at least 3 times. Each time my appointment was canceled the morning of maybe 2 hours before the set appointment time. This was very inconvenient as I would plan my day around each appointment. She would also provide various excuses each time she would reschedule. I also came here for a flash tattoo prior to scheduling my last piece with her. I arrived early before my scheduled time, and was told she was still finishing up a tattoo on someone else. I continued to wait and noticed that more people were coming in for walk-ins, and she took them while I was waiting for my tattoo that I made an appointment for. She eventually got to me but it took around an hour. I have since gotten one of the larger pieces she tattooed on me completely redone by a different artist that did an amazing job. In all she's not a bad artist, but I have decided to go else where for further work. read more

I'm writing this review to help anyone considering a tattoo with Jen Kelso to make an informed decision. I went in January to have a flower piece done on my arm. (She had already no showed on my consultation but I was still giving her the benefit of the doubt) I explained that I wanted the piece to have defined lines & soft shading. She did a beautiful job, so I thought. Within 3 months my tattoo was starting to fade significantly & some lines even disappearing. I tried contacting her but she would not respond. After sending multiple texts & getting no response she finally texted me back a month later. She explained that I had asked for a "light gray wash" tattoo & if I wanted it darker she would charge me. As irritated as I was by her not returning texts or even wanting to back up her work as a professional, I told her I was happy to pay but that I never asked for a gray wash as I don't know that terminology. After that, she never responded to single text again. I was stuck looking for another tattoo artist which is actually hard because they don't like to work on other artists work. I really don't recommend going to Jen unless you want a disappearing tattoo & to be treated like garbage. Not professional at all considering she's putting permanent marks on someone & leaves them hanging. It's truly sad because she is talented. Just not worth the stress it takes to be left in her wake. Side Note, if you're looking for a shop filled with talented artists who are also respectful check out Floating House Tattoo. I wish I had started my journey there. read more

Went in there for their Friday the 13th flash sale. I showed up around 5pm and was told that it would be about an hour or 2 wait so we waited. I told them I would be outside in my car since I had my son with me( my husband and I were going to take turns) I kept noticing people coming in and leaving that got there after we had. When I kept checking up on my status they kept telling me it would be 30 minutes more, 15 minutes more but in reality it would be hours. I was a bit nervous, having read the previous reviews, but I made an appointment after some artist research and reading Facebook posts. Jen responded to my text request for an appointment the morning after I sent (I sent my text later in the evening, so this made perfect sense). She confirmed date and time with no issues. I showed up at her studio this morning for my appointment time, and she was ready and waiting. She was courteous, fun, professional, and overall a delight. And her shop is so cozy cute!!! I was immediately comfortable, and had no problems with the entire process. First off, Jen is a tremendous amazingly talented artist. I met her a couple of months before my wedding and desperately needed a cover up. I had scarred skin, and was really nervous after my first experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. I definitely was hesitant to trust anyone and once we talked and I saw her portfolio, I knew I found my artist. She had a big task incorporating 10 flowers in my cover up all chosen by family members. She brought it to life in a way I couldn't have imagined. It is absolutely beautiful. She captured the essence of what I wanted and completely covered up my old tattoo like it was never there. Despite it being a large shoulder/upper back piece, she had it all healed by the wedding and made my wedding photos that much more beautiful having my family represented in this beautiful art I get to wear forever. I get complimented all the time, and my mom who never liked tattoos, now wants one by Jen. She has a gorgeous shop. Clean, professional and a large selection on ink. She truly listens and really customized your experience. Gentle hands and doesn't grind into your skin. She is a gem, and I'm so lucky I found her! It's coming up on one year of marriage and we have an appointment on our wedding anniversary to get our ring fingers tatted, since we are both massage therapist and can't wear our rings that often. And we are lining up appointments for continuing my shoulder piece into a sleeve and my husband graduation gift is a shoulder piece to start! He can't wait to get his first tattoo by Jen.
