IF I COULD DO NO STARS I WOULD! Had an appointment with the artist Jen for a very important tattoo for a memorial tattoo for a dear friend who passed, and had said appointment for 4 months now. She canceled the night before the appointment not even 24 hours in advance over Instagram with a very rude and unprofessional message. Would not recommend very unprofessional! Not to mention waited so long just because I had trusted her and wanted to go to her for such an important tattoo that would be in honor of my best friend and would be on my body for the rest of my life. Went in for a Friday the 13th tattoo with my sister. Jen was amazing, Super fun and friendly. My sister ended up fainting after her tattoo, all the staff at the shop was very attentive and knew exactly what to do, brought water and cold towels, gave her ginger ale and some candy. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SHOP! First off I set my appointment with Jen back in March, knowing I wanted to get a tattoo on my anniversary ( August 19th) to surprise my husband with. Last week I checked in and verified my appt time was 10:30 and she replied with a conformation, great ! A few days later the shop manager calls me and says Jens son is having a football game that Sunday and may be running a little late she will text you IF she is, perfect! I called back maybe 20 min later too see if there was a better time during the week I could come and the girl on the phone proceeds to ask me if 10:30 on Sunday wasn't going to work. My reply to her was that this time was perfect I was jus trying to work with Jen so she didn't have to come in that day. So at this point wouldn't it be safe to say my appointment time is 10:30 on Sunday unless Jen texts me that she is running behind? So I show up at 10:20 on Sunday and the door is locked at Sailors Ink, but that's okay because we are early, so we waited on the porch till 11:00. At this point I'm getting annoyed, no call, no text, no nothing from Jen. I am reaching out via email, Instagram, calling the number, nothing. Until I get back on the road heading back to Hollister I get a text ( please see photos below) I do understand there may have been a miscommunication and family comes first but as a business owner she needed to be a little more sympathetic of someone's time. This is something that was very special to me and also a surprise to my husband. If I would have known 6 months ago this was going to be the issue I would have not booked with her. read more

I looked up the business on Yelp prior to attempting to get a tattoo here and I read some negative reviews and some really great ones too. I'm a big believer in making my own opinions and judgements of any business regardless of reviews. The main reason I checked it out was because it's a TATTOO and is permanent so I did my due diligence. Anyway, I scheduled a consult with Jen and she was pretty cool and got me set up for a few weeks out. I show up for my appointment and she apparently complete forgot and maybe didn't write anything down. She was actively tattooing another person and I ended up waiting for about 20 minutes for her to "consult" with me. I chose to look past this and we discussed my desires for ink and I told her I'd love to allow her the artistic freedom to design something with my ideas in mind. She seemed accepting and we scheduled my next appointment for about 3 weeks out. The appointment approaches and day of, she texted me and said her son was sick and would need to reschedule. I'm a parent as well so I completely understood. She went on to say she felt really bad and would understand if I chose to take my business elsewhere. I told her I was fine with the need to reschedule and would love to see what designs she may have come up with and I was willing to come in and view when she was back in the studio. I suggested I come in to check out what she has and didn't want to request any images by text so she wouldn't feel like I was going to take her work elsewhere. I have many tattoos and completely respect an artist's work. Unfortunately, she never responded and I was never able to view any designs she may or may not have had done. I live local to the shop and was genuinely trying to give her small business some work and good reviews. Sucks that never happened. I pass by the shop daily, as it's on my route home, and see patrons in front of the shop all the time. It just amazes me she was so dismissive and disrespectful of a potential client's time and money. I'm not worried about any money being lost but time is one thing nobody can ever recover. I've wasted enough time on this shop and review. In all graces and honesty, I wish her the best and I hope she takes a better look at her business practices. I made the mistake of giving Jen the benefit of the doubt and went against Yelp reviews and long behold she failed... confirmed the negative remarks. Got there 15 mins early to my appointment and found a gentleman who was a client waiting 45 mins prior in the heat on patio. My appointment time passed 30 mins after no call/Text nothing from Jen. She was also fully aware I was coming from Antioch CA which was a 2 hour drive. Still after a week no call but man I'm so glad she did because another shop came thru and talk about 5 star service and now fully satisfied and it turned out better than i envisioned. I didn't want to believe the posts about Jen not showing up to her appointments because I loved her portfolio, but it's true. I met with Jen in early MARCH to discuss a piece. We scheduled an appointment for end of March. She cancelled. We rescheduled for early April. She cancelled saying she was still waiting for a new machine to come in that she wanted to use for my piece. We rescheduled AGAIN for mid May. At this point I had waited a month for my appointment since the last cancellation, and over 2 months since our first sit down. She confirmed with me the night before, then cancelled on me 1-2 hours before my appointment. Also, a week before my appointment I asked Jen to see the sketch of my piece and she explained she doesn't send her artwork via text. I completely understand that as an artist. So I asked to meet in person so I could see the sketch/show my mom to get her opinion since its a memorial piece for my mom's best friend(my aunt). She replied with "we can make adjustments when you come into your appointment" and COMPLETELY ignored the portion about me wanting my mom to see it. I've never met an artist that wouldn't show their client the sketch of the permanent tattoo they're about to get. (PS. Why would I want to wait for her to make adjustments to the piece after waiting 2 months for my appointment?) There's no doubt she's talented but after the last cancellation I gave up. I researched a lot of other places before getting my first tattoo and as soon as I went in her shop and met her I knew she was the one for me instantly. Her art is top notch and her passion and enthusiasm is off the charts. She loves what she does and cares deeply about creating the best art possible, leaving her clients fully satisfied. She involved me thoroughly with the creative process and delivered art work beyond my expectations. Her line work is crisp and shading techniques are amazing. She is versatile and capable of creating a diverse number of styles. She even taught me how to improve my own artwork. She started as my tattoo artist and quickly become a good friend as she does with all her clients which is evident by all the clients that stop by just to visit. Going to her for a tattoo is like becoming part of her family. Her shop is ran very professionally but with a family feel to it that makes you feel comfortable and like you belong there. The shop is spotlessly clean and she makes her process transparent so you know what she is doing at all times and that it's being done right and safely. There is never any pressure to do something you aren't sure you want. Her wait times are reasonable and scheduling with her is easy and consistent. She stays in contact with you leading up to your appointment so there are no surprises. I highly recommend getting work done by her and refer good friends to her regularly. What you don't hear is the people complaining about the lady having to reschedule two and three time, yeah they forgot to mention that they cancelled their first and sometimes second appointment. Most complaining about this business have nothing important in life but complain about others because of their non-existent life.. Jen does awesome work and goes out of her way and treats people great. This ain't no hack shack ran by your friendly neighborhood tweaker. Tyler was an artist I went to before he came here; as nice and talented as he is, he lacks communication skills and costumer service. He left my Mom's original tattoo by him and the touch up he started both unfinished. He forgot and had to cancel on her several times and it's difficult to get a hold of him. I had to find out through his coworker why he stopped doing business with us. There was miscommunication on pricing on his part and we would have paid his quote if kept in contact with us. Showed up for the second appointment, she ghosted me. Rescheduled again, and showed up for the third time, again Jen is no where to be found. Another patron had been waiting for her for an hour. My sister and I recently got tattoos here from Jen it was late minute and she was so accommodating with our requests. When we arrived at sailors ink it was not your normal tattoo shop which I love sometimes they can look too intimidating but this place was nicely decorated and welcoming. Jen is a great tattoo artist she doesn't stop her lines as much as other tattoo others so the pain for a shorter amount of time. I would recommend her and this place to anyone. Jen is incredible. My family is going through a really rough time right now with my mom's terminal cancer diagnosis and I contacted her about a tattoo idea. I was unsure exactly how many in the family would be getting it and if they would all be getting the same one, but she was up for the challenge and compassionate throughout. She blocked out the day for us and was super patient when I had to change things last minute due to medical stuff. When we arrived she had a custom piece ready for us to look at - it was, of course, GORGEOUS - and helped us tweak it to be just exactly what we wanted. She allowed us to take our time and talked us through everything. This was my first tattoo so I have nothing to compare it to, but she had a great touch and worked fast. It turned out better than I possibly could have imagined. The day started off shitty - we got bad news and I wasn't sure we should even keep the tattoo appointment. But it turned out to be the *perfect* way to wrap up the day - all of us laughing and loving in a tattoo parlor was our own way of telling cancer to fuck off. We now have a very positive and precious memory to attach to this day and a truly beautiful piece of art to keep for the rest of our lives. We still have some family members who will be coming back to Jen for theirs and if I want any work in the future I know who my girl is! (And my 74 year old Grandmother got her first tattoo - come on, how kick ass is that?!) Also, the shop is very comfortable, clean, and bright. I hate to post such a negative review but like the rest of the 1 star i was also stood up by Hen. I was excited to get my tattoo with a great artist. We scheduled the first appointment, as we got closer this got rescheduled because she needed to squeeze someone else in. Not a problem, i totally get it. We reschedule and on the day of my 2nd appointment i get another text from her 3 hours before saying that she is running behind and cannot stay late to do my tattoo. Again i was understanding and completely understood. She said she would come in early on a Saturday and discount the tattoo because of the rescheduling. I was understanding and we scheduled an appointment for Saturday. I text her in the morning, about an hour before our appointment and dint get a response, i still show up 15 minutes early and she is not there. No big deal, i decide to wait being that i was early, 15 minutes goes by. I try texting and calling, her office tries texting and calling. No response, i wait another 30 minutes, try texting and calling, nothing. I wait another 15 minutes (tattoo could have been finished by now) still nothing. I wait another 15 (now an hour after my appointment time and nothing. I decide to leave so i can spend time with my family on my precious Saturday. I call her again, nothing. A week goes by and no apology, no call for rescheduling, nothing. Very unprofessional. I will not go back to her. I will say one positive is that one of the artists in the shop was very apologetic and professional. I would consider using him in the future. read more

I'm sad to have to review how disappointed I am with Jen's customer service. We've had a combined total of 4 appointments with her and she's cancelled 2 of them. One was understandable but the most recent was just plain poor planning and bad customer service. On both of the appointments that she kept it took far too long to actually get anything started. Our time is valuable just like everybody's is and she takes far too long to get started for my taste. I've had work done by lots of artists, some very famous in the tattoo world and I've never had an appointment cancelled or had to wait for over 30 minutes to get the work started. While she is a very talented artist that's not enough for me to continue to patronize her shop. I had plans of having her do a full back piece for me but I'll be looking for someone else to do that for me and my fiancee will have her work finished elsewhere as well. I'd give her 5 stars for her art work but 0 stars for reliability and customer service. I was really looking forward to working with her on a long term project but I can't deal with wasting time and flaky people. read more
