What a beautiful church this is. It is part of the Painted Churches Tour done by the Schulenburg…read moreChamber of Commerce in Schulenburg, Texas. You can certainly go visit the churches on this tour on your own but it is really worth doing the guided tour so you can get inside the churches and take pictures and get a detailed history of each church. We had a super guide, Gary Carpenter, who also does professional photography, so he let our group of photo club photographers set our own pace and not rush to the next church. He also had access to the spots to turn on the indoor lighting which was a must for good pictures. I can not say enough about Gary and the nice ladies at the Chamber of Commerce. There are some fees for doing a guided tour but well worth it.

Absolutely beautiful…read more You can view this church as part of the Painted Churches Tour or visit on your own. We came on our own and didn't get much information on the church's history but we still really enjoyed seeing the stunning artworks and incredible detail inside. I couldn't find the visitation hours posted anywhere but it was open when we came (Friday, early afternoon). The gift shop across the street was closed though. They do have mass here on Sundays and I assume that's when they open the gift shop. I assume the church remains open during standard daytime hours but don't take my word for it. If you appreciate beautiful churches, I highly recommend seeing this one.

My husband and I (and now our 4 month old baby girl) have been driving to Seguine from Austin on…read moreand off for almost a year now to attend Grace Family Bible Church. It's a lovely drive and because it's an hour outside of Austin we just make a day of it and try to have our going out there be our only plans. This church is small (never seen more than 25 people during a service) which is refreshing after attending a very large, praise heavy church for many years. Everyone is warm and welcoming and it's rather diverse in age and race for being so small. Mostly families. Pastor Scott Mitchell is a very direct and knowledgeable teacher who rightly divides the Word of Truth...but most of all he is compelled to share the Gospel of Grace! There is not a band... No "Praise and Worship" top 40 here. There has been some musical accompaniment to the singing, but I personally like that we usually sing two old school hymns acapella in between the two sermons. Hymns are just magnificent pieces of writing...beautiful, scriptural, and they always show a great love and respect for the Lord. And yes, I did say they have TWO sermons! This is a true BIBLE church. The emphasis is on studying the Word of God. (The King James Bible) The first starts at 10am and is just under an hour long. This sermon is usually a continuation of a series...like now we are not studying "The Kingdom of Heaven". The second is typically more practical in nature like, "How to share the Gospel" and is a stand alone message that is also about an hour long. Brother Scott always uses scripture to define scripture, so you will get to know your way around the Bible REAL fast. And it's exciting! And you can ask questions or get clarifications during the sermons! It's engaging, challenging, always thought provoking, and leaves me wanting to study my Bible all the more! From their website: "Grace Family Bible Church has one focus: We want all men to see that God has reconciled the world unto Himself through His precious Son Jesus Christ, and He is no longer holding men accountable for their sins. All of your sins were paid for by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary's cross, and you can be saved eternally by simply trusting that Christ died for your sins, was buried and raised again."

It is a quaint little church about an hour south east of Austin - worth the drive if you really want a church that will teach you from the word of God (KJB) and make the gospel priority. The people are super friendly - but, not pushy. There is a small, educational children's program. If you like the Truth and are tired of the entertaining churches - this is a special place. You can go to the website to hear some of Pastor Scott's teachings - you can also find his teachings on a site called: www.trustingthelord.com

We understand we can't expect the same individualized care from the executive leadership that we could in a smaller congregation, but we look forward to navigating our walk here in the context of the system of delegation that is in place-- Thank God for the blueprint (Exodus 18). Anyway, there will likely be a learning curve. The campus is quite far from us, so we watched their services and podcasts online for a few weeks before deciding to make the drive to visit in person. Church is always better in person. We were welcomed warmly (not overly/fakely so but just enough), and we were given information on small groups which will be key for connection and discipleship. Pastor Ed and his wife Stephanie seem deeply rooted in and passionate about teaching the Word, and their love for each other and the flock appears genuine. Marge from the prayer team was so kind when I went up for prayer and anointing by an elder, and so far this has been a weekly option for those who want to obey the command of James 5:14-15. We're excited to learn more, go through the membership classes, and start serving on one (or several) their MANY weekend/community service teams.

Well once he passed I call the church and spoke with the lady that handles this. Well don't you know that Minister Ed is booked out 1 yr in advance and could not make the time. I said ok, well is the any other minister or church representative that can attend the viewing and say a few words (the viewing was a week away). Don't you know that NO ONE was gonna be available, PERIOD So much for caring for their church members. We had another church pastor attend with a couple days notice.
