Walking in, I walked around a moment before someone asked if I was looking for anything specific. I let them know I was looking for sake, they immediately directed me to the room temp sake shelf, and also pointed out the refrigerated sake. The staff member asked if I had any questions or needed anything else which was appreciated. I let them know I was just looking for a simple, basic, lower cost one and she pointed out a couple. I grabbed a couple other items in addition to the sake on the way out and was pleased with all. I really appreciated the helpful staff and kindness. The store was clean, organized, and stocked. In addition to the sake, I saw many items stocked that you don't find at evert liquor store which is always nice! Will return - this may be my go-to, local liquor store?!

Now run by third-generation owners, it expanded to retailing fine wine and cheeses as well. I stopped in to buy some house gifts, and was pleasantly surprised by its very large selection of products, displayed in a way that it was enjoyable to do some 'window shopping'. In my case, I focused on the whiskey's and found what I was hoping for (from the Nikka distillery, a place I had visited a long time ago). But surprisingly it carried American made whiskey (in this case, from the Seattle area) for a price that was lower than what I had paid when actually visiting the distillery itself. I took the time to walk around a bit, noticing that they had an entire section devoted to just German and Austria wines. (Would have been shocked to find wines from Luxembourg, which is on my list). There were also a large beer refrigerated room, as big as any I've seen at big retailers. Of course, it had the beers from the Midwest that are hard to find where I live now (Leinenkugel, Hamm's, and Zywiec). Also noticed a small display of cigars, protected behind locked glass. Ended up getting two Westland Single Malt 750ml for $56.99 each. Checkout was identical to any large liquor store chain (like a grocery store checkout with employees who do checkout and are not really knowledgeable about the products sold).

I will never show my face there again so I'm taking the risk. Downright. Scary. It brought me right back to the night I spent in the Cleveland bus station (my own personal scariest place on earth). The people working here all seemed like they would prefer to skin me than to sell me beer. But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. So we browsed for awhile (thank goodness I was not unchaperoned) and ended up leaving with nothing despite the very heavy weight of obligation to buy SOMETHING under such intense discomfort and scrutiny. Anything to improve the situation! But we chose to flee, for everything in this place was considerably overpriced and there are other liquor stores close by. More importantly they didn't have what we were shopping for. Even if I had been on foot in a blizzard or a flood I would have probably opted for the jaunt to Surdyk's. I don't need my liquor store to be fancy or shiny. It wasn't the lack of either of those qualities that made me turn away, but rather the prices and selection combined with the unwelcome feeling. I prefer to shop local, and I still can since there are a number of other liquor stores close to home. When we were leaving empty-handed we were dismissed with very obvious sneers and a snide "thanks for shopping with us," which absolutely was not mistaken nor meant to be sincere. I am fairly certain that we didn't do anything to warrant such abrasiveness, unless bright yellow coats or '94 Saturns offend them. Would I rather live in a house with snakes in the walls or buy vodka at Gopher Liquor? Would I rather high five a hungry grizzly bear or get a case of PBR on my way home at Gopher? If anyone else has had a positive experience and this was just a very, verrry bad night for them, I beg you to share! The only other experience I've heard of is that of a friend who's boyfriend left her locked in the car the last time they stopped...am I just paranoid?

It is a solid place to stop whether you know exactly what you want or need some guidance, since a lot of the employees are knowledgeable and willing to help. They also do tastings from time to time, which can be fun if you are there with friends. The last time I went, I needed help picking out a tequila and the worker walked me through the basics and gave me a few options. I ended up going with his recommendation and it was a big hit at the party. I also come here specifically for THC drinks since they have a huge variety. Pricing is a little high, but that seems pretty standard everywhere for this kind of stuff, so it is not surprising. I have had a couple moments where workers at the tasting stations came off a bit off putting, but that has been outweighed by the other staff who are much more engaged and helpful. If you are looking for a place with a wide selection and people who can help you choose, this is definitely worth checking out.

I first went to the back wall, which was all coolers for beer. I found what I needed right away. Then headed to the liquor. I was surprised to find a 2 shelf tribute to local spirits! This place was pretty big, so they carried a lot of brands and types of alcohol. Stop by if in the area.

And I don't think there are many other grocers that cater to the Polish cuisine as well as they do. Service is excellent! It helps that all of the employees are true Minnesota Nice, and their accent is on point! I feel so at home when I shop here. Because it's such a small grocer, their selection is pretty limited. However, they almost always have what I'm looking for, and their produce is extra fresh!
