We also go to Luling for sky activities, like hang gliding and skydiving, so it's nice to have a nice place to stay when we go. This place personifies excellent customer service, from beginning to end. For this stay, which was a birthday surprise for my partner, I had emailed for information to find the room with the biggest tub so he could have nice soaking baths, and they didn't just send the info, they sent along pictures to help me choose. Every room has a fridge, microwave, and a Keurig machine, although you have all of that available in the dining room as well. There is a giant grand piano you can play, and lots of lovely places to sit and relax.Every room (upstairs and down) has porch access, with rocking chairs and porch swings. And there are even road bikes you can borrow! Upon arrival, we were greeted like long-lost relatives, with homemade blondies and dipped berries waiting in our room. We were given a tour, and then Jessica dashed off to get us some ice at the market, so we could have some in our bourbon. The dining area has available at all times homemade goodies, juice, water, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and popcorn. You are NOT going to go hungry. And the breakfasts are to DIE for - so delicious! Terry, the owner, often comes and joins, and he and Jessica are delightful company. The rooms are huge, and decorated whimsically. Miss Annie's room even has a red silky robe for the ladies, because apparently Miss Annie used to garden in her red robe (ooh, la la!). The beds are very comfy, and there are easily 20 pillows with which to make yourself a nest - or perhaps a pillow fort. We also really enjoy sitting on the porch swings and having a cocktail or beer, just chilling. It's restful, it's delightful. This trip, on our departure Jessica remembered me telling her that I love urban foraging, and will make use of any leftover fruits and veggies people have, so she packed me a back of veggies from her garden, along with some more blondies for the road. She also packed up some snacks for us the previous day when we were heading out to spend the day waiting to jump out of a plane. Everything about this place is completely delightful. The service, the company, the atmosphere, the food, everything. I cannot possibly recommend it highly enough. As others have noted, yes, there are train tracks nearby, and you can hear the trains going by. If that's a problem, I'd suggest earplugs. For me, it's reminiscent of my childhood, so I don't mind. If you want to be pampered and enjoy a lovely environment for a weekend away, I can't recommend this highly enough. Stop in Lockhart on the way for some delicious BBQ. Luling has some BBQ also, if you don't feel like stopping. Make sure the check out the Farmer's Market too!

It is a beautiful home with many whimsical touches. Although it seems small, it cozily sleeps 6. I highly recommend staying there with others. I stayed there with my mother and it was entirely too large for just the two of us! :) For being such an old home (it was built in 1869), it is solid as a rock! Not a creak or a sound came out of that home. The back porch was our favorite spot to relax in the evenings. This truly is a beautiful home with so many updates and cold A/C! :) Bring your own coffee, though. Although the landlords said it was available, there was no coffee and we ended up having to buy our own. OR, you can walk right over to Greg's Coffee Shop (totally another review, there!)

The kolaches and pigs in a blanket were very tasty. The coffee was easy and good. I really enjoyed the quiet, the ceiling fans, and the tv's. When the gentleman who took the reservation found out it was for our anniversary, he suggested that we stay in one of the cottages for privacy at the same rate as the room we originally requested. We said that was great. A few weeks later, we got a call telling us that cottage was not available as it already had been booked. She would put us in the other cottage, but at the same lower rate. Okay, that's fine. When we arrived, the cottage had not been prepared yet, though we weren't early. We said that was okay. She offered a room *in the house* instead. We didn't specifically say we wanted the room in the house, but before we knew it, she was ringing us up for that room instead. We got the distinct feeling that she either didn't want to bother setting up the cottage, or she didn't want to give us the discounted rate for the cottage. Then there were the rules. See the photo I posted. While some of those might be reasonable, several were not. For one, we were cold the entire time we were in the house. It happened to be a slightly chilly weekend and we struggled to be even somewhat comfortable there. I've never had a problem with this anywhere else. Then there's the one mentioning that if you want a romantic weekend, you should seek privacy by staying in a cottage instead of the house. Really? At a B&B? Overall, the tone of that rule card is very off-putting. Talking to a local, they said the B&B wasn't the same since the woman who started it passed away. She apparently used to host big breakfasts, was very social, and supposedly it was a lot of fun and welcoming there. Now, the big dining room seems largely unused and you serve yourself a continental-style breakfast.

For what we wanted, 5 stars…read more What we wanted: A clean, well-lit place with good amenities to rest our heads for the night, in close proximity to the various sites. This place delivered in spades. It's catty-corner to Welhausen park and some-odd minutes walk or extremely short drive to our furthest destination - the Spoetzl Brewery. Everywhere else we wanted to go was inside that radius. I'll put it like this. My map app would bring up walking options before driving options. The AC blew snowballs (to put it in Texanese). The surroundings were calm and quiet. Despite being in the downtown part of Shiner, it felt like we were in a cabin in the woods. Don't get me wrong. The main road runs right by, but the town's so quiet at night that you barely notice. The restroom: I don't know about you, but quality facilities are a must. I'm including images of the double-shower and the toilet. The tank is huge and the toilet runs thoroughly. If you need a double flush, you might wanna get checked - medically speaking. That is, unless you had overindulged at Friday's Fried Chicken earlier that day (as we did). Then, a second flush might at least be the courteous thing to do. The bed: We got the king sized one, so there was plenty of room for both of us. The pillows were billowy and there were two for each of us. The mattress was comfy but properly firm, without being rigid. It didn't swallow us, but it didn't reject us either. A second blanket would be nice to add, in consideration of those with spousal blanket hogs. The rest: There was a mini fridge, a coffee maker, and a microwave for the kitchenette, wall-mounted cable TV, a mini upholstered bench, a wicker chair with throw pillow, two unique night stands, a wooden desk with drawers that had a steel bowl on it (perfect for for pocket items like keys, wallet, etc.) and matching 4-legged chair, a large stand-in closet, and plenty of outlets. The decor was sparse, which is fine for us. We weren't in Shiner to spend our time in the room. The floor was linoleum and the restroom had that cool old school tile. For safety's sake, I always recommend chanclas/shower shoes. There were plenty of towels. We never saw a bug, rodent, or other such pest in the room. There's also plenty of outdoor seating. Upshot: Clean, well-priced, and comfortable. What else are you looking for? It's a place to sleep and rejuvenate, not a palace.
