So understand that you will be in an old building With minimal amenities…read more Do not expect the following in your guest room: (I wish someone had told us this before we checked in): no microwave, no hangers to hang your clothes, no coffee machine, not even cups for water in the room!. To compensate for the absence of these basic amenities It would help if rooms at least had complimentary bottles of water, at the very least. So I will sum up with a summary of both positives and negatives. Positives: clean rooms, close to the old town square. Negatives: not much to do at the town square; employees at hotel not in uniform (woman at checkin was wearing shorts and a wig, believe it or not); lobby interior dark/daunting, unwelcoming; dining area - just no - dark, ill equipped and smaller than my living room; air conditioner in room so loud I needed ear plugs! I understand times are tough (I own a vacation rental). If you want to please your customers and have them return you must at least offer the Basics! If you're not keeping up with your competitors, you are losing business. The following are great ideas to improve the Alcalde hotel rooms: (in fact these are a few things that keep our customers coming back to our vacation rental): a small gift basket including inexpensive things such as a souvenir cup/glass, notepad/pen,a bag of unpopped corn, a couple of bottles of water... you get the idea. Low-cost extras that show you care. I hope these suggestions are helpful. If you do nothing else, please put your employees in uniform (even as simple as a white shirt and black pants). And brighten up the lobby from grim/unwelciming to bright/welcoming. Remember, 1st impressions are lasting impressions!

We also go to Luling for sky activities, like hang gliding and skydiving, so it's nice to have a nice place to stay when we go. This place personifies excellent customer service, from beginning to end. For this stay, which was a birthday surprise for my partner, I had emailed for information to find the room with the biggest tub so he could have nice soaking baths, and they didn't just send the info, they sent along pictures to help me choose. Every room has a fridge, microwave, and a Keurig machine, although you have all of that available in the dining room as well. There is a giant grand piano you can play, and lots of lovely places to sit and relax.Every room (upstairs and down) has porch access, with rocking chairs and porch swings. And there are even road bikes you can borrow! Upon arrival, we were greeted like long-lost relatives, with homemade blondies and dipped berries waiting in our room. We were given a tour, and then Jessica dashed off to get us some ice at the market, so we could have some in our bourbon. The dining area has available at all times homemade goodies, juice, water, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and popcorn. You are NOT going to go hungry. And the breakfasts are to DIE for - so delicious! Terry, the owner, often comes and joins, and he and Jessica are delightful company. The rooms are huge, and decorated whimsically. Miss Annie's room even has a red silky robe for the ladies, because apparently Miss Annie used to garden in her red robe (ooh, la la!). The beds are very comfy, and there are easily 20 pillows with which to make yourself a nest - or perhaps a pillow fort. We also really enjoy sitting on the porch swings and having a cocktail or beer, just chilling. It's restful, it's delightful. This trip, on our departure Jessica remembered me telling her that I love urban foraging, and will make use of any leftover fruits and veggies people have, so she packed me a back of veggies from her garden, along with some more blondies for the road. She also packed up some snacks for us the previous day when we were heading out to spend the day waiting to jump out of a plane. Everything about this place is completely delightful. The service, the company, the atmosphere, the food, everything. I cannot possibly recommend it highly enough. As others have noted, yes, there are train tracks nearby, and you can hear the trains going by. If that's a problem, I'd suggest earplugs. For me, it's reminiscent of my childhood, so I don't mind. If you want to be pampered and enjoy a lovely environment for a weekend away, I can't recommend this highly enough. Stop in Lockhart on the way for some delicious BBQ. Luling has some BBQ also, if you don't feel like stopping. Make sure the check out the Farmer's Market too!

Our cabin's…read moreAC wasn't working from the moment we checked in on Thursday, and despite multiple messages and visits from staff, it was never fixed during our 3-night stay. The staff on the text line (especially Daniela and Kaylee) were polite and tried to help, but the issue was beyond their control. We were repeatedly told a technician was coming, offered temporary cabins for the night, and given portable AC units that barely cooled one side of the cabin. By the second night we had three adults and a toddler staying in a hot, uncomfortable cabin. Even after constant communication, the AC unit was never replaced, and the portable solutions leaked and couldn't keep up. We spent much of the trip waiting for answers instead of relaxing. When I called management after checking out, I was told only Rachel could authorize a refund, but she was on vacation. When I finally spoke with her, she was dismissive and offered only 50% back or a partial credit, saying she saw camera footage of us "using the amenities" as proof we still enjoyed our stay -- which was offensive after how miserable the cabin conditions were. I want to make clear that the on-site staff and text support team were kind and empathetic, but management's handling of the situation was unacceptable. Our vacation was consumed by a broken AC, unresolved maintenance issues, and poor follow-up. I won't be returning, and I strongly suggest future guests think twice before booking. If things go wrong, you might not get proper help -- only excuses. Also just to note a lot of the cabins are lacking in condition, but for the winter price it's bearable. Either way after this experience there's better places to vacation at.

We never even stayed there...we left because of the smell. Never heard back after I called in the morning and just now received (4 days later) an email saying "the cabin doesn't have a smell and you should read the entire description of the cabins." You'd have to read and read to find it amd I'd think not having a shower and toilet in your cabin is pretty big topic to inform your clients vice disenguuosly buying in the description. Shame on you for such a horrible experience and taking my $.

The pull-out sofa was broken, and there were no sheets or bedding provided for it, leaving part of our group without a proper place to sleep. These are basic accommodations that should have been available. To make matters worse, the first thing you see upon entering the property is a notice stating that they will dispute all charge disputes. Instead of making guests feel welcomed, it immediately creates the impression that they expect problems and are prepared to fight their customers rather than resolve legitimate concerns. I would strongly recommend staying elsewhere. There are plenty of properties that value their guests and stand behind what they advertise. Unfortunately, this was not one of them.
