We (my Husband and I) celebrated out 2nd year of marriage at Saki! He was tired of going to all of the other (really there's only two spots we frequent) Japanese places we go to so, naturally we turn to Yelp. We decided on Saki based on, obviously the reviews but also pictures of the inside. We arrived around 6ish and were seated. You can sit in the dinning area or, they also have the hibachi grills. I forget the young lady's name who waited on us. I wanna say it was Jessica? Tall with glasses. Sorry! We ordered: -Small sashimi appetizer -Tuna Roll (Tekka) -Seaweed Salad (Wakame) -Bomb Roll -Red Dragon Roll -Yaki Udon All of the rolls were decent sized and very tasty, nothing fishy. The size of the Sashimi was cut thinner than I'm used to but it was still good. The only thing that turned me off was more than half of the rolls had cream cheese in it...WHAAAAT IS WITH THE CREAM CHEESE AND MS?! I mean, yea, I guess we would order It without it but it's an instant turn off. We highly dislike cream cheese in our rolls. I still don't understand that concept. LOL! anyway The Yaki udon was tasty as well...I do have to say that the meats, chicken and beef, were really dry and the shrimp did not taste good but the noodles were good. It was also kind of salty BUT I have been eating pretty clean and have been limiting my dairy and carb intake soooo I may have just been sensitive. My husband thought it was fine. If on a budget, the food provided in the dining area is just as fantastic. We usually only go to hibachi when the kids are with us because that's their whole reason for going. I don't often leave 5 stars, but this place deserves it! Our waiter Dalton was really friendly and personable... and patient. It took us a while to get our bearings after being on the road all day. We finally ordered and settled in for what turned out to be the best food I had on our trip. I started with the lobster tail- it's loaded with lobster tempura, spicy snow crab, cheese and masago- and drizzled with liquid beauty. I also got the crab salad with rice, hubby ordered the Pad Thai, and DD got the veggie fried rice. Everything was delicious and beyond our expectations. The portions on the Thai food were also very generous and reasonable. The lobster was seriously so amazing, I had to order another one to to go. Lol The owners were super friendly and happy to chat about the food, which I was really grateful for since I've been wanting to ease my way into raw sushi for a while now. After talking to them I decided to take the tower special with salmon to go... Only the second time I've tried raw salmon- and it was really fresh and lovely. It really did melt in your mouth like butter! Dear Lord, that tower was incredible. I had no idea what I was missing out on all this time. The flavors of the seasoning they put on top were so layered and tasted incredible with the salmon. I'm giving this place four stars BECAUSE THE SOFT SHELL CRAB WAS EXCELLENT! But the rest was typical food. Our sushi roll was good, the miso soup was typically good, and the dinners were typical. Nothing spectacular but it's worth the money if you are in the area and want Japanese. The veggie rice orders were VERY LARGE!, We ordered two for a table of 5 adults and 2 children. Also, the kids meal dinner came with ALOT OF MEAT! Almost as much steak as the adult meal. I was surprised how much steak was on the child portion, so if you have a tween or a hefty kid, this is a filing meal for them. Now on to the bad. The salad had this carrot diced pickled sauce on top of the Slice of tomato. It wasn't bad but it is something a person that like Kimchi would probably enjoy over a person that doesn't like ferments. Then the white rice debacle began! We ordered dinners and so I noticed it started WHITE STEAMED rice came with the meal! We asked for an up charge to have Fried rice instead and were refused. Now this is why I'm upset! They made us purchase orders of fried rice if we wanted fried rice! But the steamed rice was still going to be apart of or bill and we didn't get it because we didn't want steamed rice. So they got to keep the rice (which they could have fried) and charge us for extra orders! We ordered two orders of veggie fried rice for the table. Also, at the end they brought the credit card slip but not the itemized bill back. So I requested the itemized bill so that I could see if the tip had been included and it was, almost 27$ tip (no big deal) but I was about to tip another 20+ thinking the tip wasn't included. So I don't know if this is what the wait staff does to increase tips and steal from customers! read more

It was late on Sunday in Biloxi/Ocean Springs, MS...we were having a hard time finding something good to eat that was still open that wasn't fast food or in a casino. We stumbled upon Saki, and I can't say no to sushi:) The restaurant was quiet and a few other tables were full, so we got seated right away since we didn't want hibachi style. The staff was friendly and helpful, our waitress let me sample plum wine since I've never had it. My husband isn't big on seafood so I knew if I had sushi I'd have to eat most of it, so we settled on one roll, some edemame, and the steak teriyaki platter. Edemame was done good, warm, not soggy, like some places serve. The Uncle Sam roll had shrimp tempura, snowcrab, crawfish, cream cheese, eel sauce, and spicy mayo, all deep fried...it was one of the best special sushi rolls I have ever had, the hubby even liked it. The pieces were perfect sized, with 5 pieces in the roll. The waitress let us get 2 miso soups instead of soup and salad, it was a big bowl, very tasty miso, not the best I've ever had but good. Then we shared the steak teriyaki, we ordered it medium, we agreed it was done more than medium, but it was still tender and delicious, with lots of sweet teriyaki sauce, rice was okay, and a big pile of crisp zucchini on the side. I'm from Baton Rouge, LA and didn't have any idea where to eat. My 11 year old wanted Sushi so I asked the locals working at one of the souvenir shops if they could recommend a good place. Saki came highly recommended. Boy were we glad we went. We arrived about 5:40 on a Thursday and there were only a few tables occupied. We were seated promptly and our waiter took our order right away. We ordered a couple of cokes and the Shrimp fried rice, followed by 2 orders of the Rock N Roll sushi and 1 order of California rolls. It was way too much food for 2 people, but we were counting on eating shrimp fried rice and watching movies later. The rice came out first and it was good. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was definitely good. It was fresh and had a great flavor. It was loaded with Shrimp and at 8.95, it was a great deal. My 11 year old, who normally doesn't like the rice, loved it. Our mouths were watering by the time our Sushi came. We both had been thinking of Sushi all day. We were not disappointed. The Rock N Roll was delicious. I may even have to include it in my top 3 of all time. It was light and tasty. The Shrimp were cooked to perfection and the rolls were tightly rolled and manageable. My only regret was that I didn't order more than 2. I didn't try the California rolls but my son said they were quite tasty. He did agree that next time he would order another Rock N Roll instead of the California roll. Overall our experience here was wonderful. There is a hibachi room, which looked pretty entertaining. Standard no-frills hibachi grill. Decent food, but nothing spectacular. The service inattentive. The water here tastes dank for some reason. I order water all the time a various places I eat at in Biloxi, but only here has the water been so unbearable that I had to backtrack and order a soda. Another disappointing thing is that there was no real show to go with the hibachi. If you've ever been to Benihana's or any decent hibachi grill, you'll know that the point of going is more for the performance of cooking the food rather than the food itself. But here there was no knife juggling, no onion volcano, no tossing raw meat in the air and skewering it. But the saving grace of this place, despite all it's "flaws" is that the lunch prices are very decent. There's a 15% discount on hibachi during lunch hours so you can get away with a adequately nice meal for about $10, which is a cut above fast food for the same price. I wouldn't go here for dinner though. read more

Boyfriend got To-Go here for us. We ordered the seafood yaki udon, kids chicken teriyaki, and a baked salmon roll. The seafood yaki udon came with mussels, scallops, and shrimp. My boyfriend loved it and said it was the best yaki udon yet! I know it is silly, but I ordered the kids chicken teriyaki and thank goodness I did. It came with so much food! One chicken breast with teriyaki sauce on top with a side of fluffy steam rice, two vegetable egg rolls and a cup of egg drop soup. It was all delicious! The baked salmon roll was pretty good. My first time to this restaurant (Saturday night about 6 pm). I ordered shrimp and avocado sushi roll, clear soup and salad. My companions ordered tempura off the dinner menu that came with soup and salad, as well as a combo rice for the table. The sushi was excellent but the other dishes were mediocre. Our party of three was seated without waiting. Service was attentive and our food arrived quickly. The atmosphere was pleasant without a lot of noise. This place has nice seating and seems to always be timely to get our food. For years I've always liked their entrées, and the hibachi was just about like anybody else's. However, I do believe maybe they've made some changes to their recipe for their fried rice and their quality of fresh food has changed. This place is very rude and unprofessional. I am a member of the military and just made it back home, so i had a taste for some saki. Placing my order was very frustrating because the lady taking my order over the phone kept getting my order incorrect. Once i arrived to pickup my order the lady began to be rude towards me, and slammed the receipt on the counter for me to sign. After i made it home i noticed the chicken was overcooked and was very dry in my fried rice so i called to inform them of this and the lady continued to be rude and even hung the phone up in my face. I definitely believe in supporting local businesses but i will not be returning to this restaurant. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

When Manfriend and I went to Mississippi for an extended period of time, one of the first things I thought once we settled in was, "OH good god. What the hell am I going to do for sushi?" Call me crazy, but the words "Sushi" and "The South" didn't really go together in my mind. I was terrified at the thought of a year without my favorite thing to cram in my mouth. Egads! So I did a bit of research and found out there were actually several sushi spots within a 15-20 mile radius, and there was a rather large sushi/teppan place nearby, so we thought we'd check it out. Our first time going to Saki, it was a Saturday evening, and we were pleasantly suprised to find it packed. There was a pretty decent sized wait for the Teppanyaki tables, but since we were just going for a sushi fix, we snagged one of the few tables left. Its a really large restaurant, with 3 or 4 teppan tables in the back, a sushi bar and tables in the front. Servers here are pretty friendly, and very efficient. They have a TON of special rolls written on a board right when you walk through the door, added to the gazillion other rolls they have on their menu. Sometimes we would order the 14-dollar-damn-I-can-barely-fit-this-in-my-mouth rolls, but as I've said before, I'm somewhat of a sushi simplest. I found that the few times we ordered the big crazyass rolls, it was just too much going on to really even taste the best part- the fish! They also had a delicious appetizer we got EVERY time we went there.. crabstick tempura.. oh god. They gave you 6 or so LARGE pieces of sweet yummy crab tempura battered and fried to the perfect crunch. And the sauce they served with it was soooo good. I could drink the stuff if need be. It was a slightly sweet, slightly spicey, cream sauce they called "secret sauce". No, not like Del Taco. I really can't remember if they have a full bar.. me thinks not. I usually ordered their plum wine... actually, Sake is where I first discovered the goodness that is Plum Wine. I can't believe I've been missing out for so long! Manfriend loved that they had the large Sapporos, and at a low price! We ended up frequenting this place.. it wasn't sushi like we could get at home, but it definitely did the job. I actually ended up meeting one of the owners, a young woman, at the nail salon. Always happy to support young women business owners, especially when they're super sweet like she was. So, thanks Sake! I thought eating out would be banned to eating Waffle House and catfish... but that was just me being an ignorant CA snob. ;) read more

I went here once last July and once was enough for me. The chicken teriyaki I ordered was lukewarm at best. The chicken was almost stale from being overcooked. I guess they thought it would soften up after sitting out for ten minutes? The atmosphere is noisy and unpleasant. I got the sense the place was a good hangout for highschoolers or people not serious about quality Japanese cuisine. I recommend trying Ichiban just around the corner on hwy 90 (across from Sonics). They have a much more quiet/calm environment with all the same trappings. On a side note: one of my coworkers got sick after eating here a second time. I've vowed never to go back. read more

It's Mississippi. I hate Mississippi. If you're like me you probably hate it too. I was so glad when I left. But while I was there I tried to find a way to make the time more tolerable. Finally fine some sushi that looks legit. So I go with some friends from base and they get drunk. It was probably a lot more fun for them. Don't get me wrong the food was quite tasty as I recall. What I remember sucking the most, and I remember this months and miles away, was the service. It was slow as time. It was inattentive. I'm used to sushi being just a slight bit slower than other eateries, so I go in knowing it will be a real sit down, but come on. We were here for, I believe, 45 minutes before we got our ordered drinks that came after water. From when we walked in to we left was 2.5 hrs up, very close to 3 hours. I killed my phone browsing facebook on and off over the night. The waitress repeatedly forgot simple things (chopsticks, menus, food, drinks, glasses, well pretty much everything). The night did turn around about 1.5 hrs in, but not from the restaurant environment. My very drunk friends and I just decided to talk loudly about sex, life, and vaginal waxing. 3 stars. The food was tasty; they put up with very detailed, graphic descriptions of our vaginas; but good lord I don't want to spend 3 hours of my life waiting on cold fish. Oh, and if you hate Mississippi so much lady, just don't come back. As of about 2-1-14 Saki's caught on fire. Right now it's closed. The sign said they will re-open. I looked from the parking lot and most of the fire damage was all toward the rear kitchen. It didn't look like they had started repairs yet so.....hopefully they'll get started soon.
