Overall, Koi Sushi delivered a good dining experience with a few standout dishes and a couple of quirks. We started with the edamame, which was a touch salty but still tasty. For sushi, we tried the Kimberly Roll and the Cao Roll, and both were excellent--easily the highlight of the meal. The Kimberly Roll, with its slight jalapeño kick on top, is a must-try for anyone who enjoys a little heat. The chicken and steak fried rice was another winner--flavorful and served in a very generous portion. The chicken katsu, breaded in panko, was good as well, but the sauce on the side was served cold. Our server mentioned that only their teriyaki sauce is served hot, which felt odd given that the dish itself comes out hot. In our humble opinion, heating up the sauces would make a big difference. Service was a B: a bit slow and not particularly warm, though not unfriendly. The ambiance matched what you'd expect from a hibachi-style restaurant--lively with the occasional flash of hibachi flames across the way, which adds some fun energy to the room. Bottom Line: Koi Sushi offers some great sushi and hearty portions, with the Kimberly Roll stealing the show. Not a hibachi review - that is the other side of the restaurant. That said I've been here twice - once late in the evening on a weekend solo and once during the day with my mom for a lunch on the weekend. Both times were excellent. The servers are attentive, the prices are reasonable, and the sushi is AMAZING. The sashimi is fresh and honestly the best I've had since moving here. Add on that the restaurant feels chill and relaxed although a bit modern and cold for my taste it's not bad just different. Can't wait to come back and try the hibachi table next time read more

Just ok, nothing special. The yum yum sauce was very mayo heavy. The other sauces were salty. You can't order hibachi style meals from the kitchen so you have to sit at the grill if you want hibachi. The sushi is ok, I didn't hate it. The restaurant apparently uses an odd system that limits the patrons ability to pay, which is very annoying. It's best to just pay cash as they offer cash price and a card price. Gratuity is automatically added to both carryout and dine in orders. I do wish they had smaller hibachi setups to accommodate smaller groups. I had a pretty neutral opinion of this place, it's ok. Not necessarily my first choice. The only minus I observed was a large vent falling. It almost hit a patron so they definitely need to ensure they are better secured as it could potentially harm someone. read more

This was my 2nd visit to Koi Sushi in Gulfport, & I've found my new favorite sushi place in Mississippi. I used to go to Sho-Ya back in the late 90's and early 2000's before Katrina wrecked so many places. I would travel from Alabama just for their sushi. Now I've found another one that I like enough to travel for. It's a relatively small place, with one side dedicated to teppanyaki grills and one side dedicated to regular dining. There is a small bar/ sushi bar as well. This trip was shortly after 5 pm, and 2+ of the teppan tables were already full and in cooking mode. My boyfriend and I sat in the dining side, first table for the night, and we were quickly greeted by the welcoming and friendly Cynthia. I had already studied some of the menu so I at least narrowed SOME of the rolls down that I wanted to try. He got an egg drop soup and I got a cucumber salad to nibble on while i wrote down our sushi feast. I LOVE Uni, so I am always stoked to see places that offer sea urchin. That is an "always order" for me. They also offer foie Gras nigiri (which I've only ever seen at Jinsei sushi in Birmingham AL). I got the foie nigiri as well (instead of the scallop with foie Gras that I tried last time). The foie nigiri was tasty but a little skimpy compared to what I've had before. On to the rolls. I got SO many. There was Mango Tango Roll, Thunder Roll, Roll Tide Roll, Kimberly Roll, Who Dat Roll, Wasabi Tobiko Roll, and Eel Roll. Of these my favorite was definitely the Kimberly roll (spicy salmon & hamachi inside, topped with avocado, salmon, hamachi, Serrano peppers, garlic mayo, crunchy garlic, and eel sauce). Somehow these thin round slices of Serrano weren't mouth murdering like the ones inside the Thunder roll (which was very tasty too but I had to take the pepper pieces out and only bite a tiny bit with each piece). I wouldn't get the Who Dat roll again (I've found I'm not a big fan of crunchies on top of rolls), and possibly not the Thunder Roll bc it was SO spicy. All the other rolls I would get again. The mango tango roll was really nice and different with the coconut shrimp and mango on top. I hope Cynthia will be there the next time I get to go because she was so friendly and efficient. She joked with us and just made us feel very welcome. Kept our drinks filled and offered to bring us any sauce we'd like. She brought exactly the right amount and size of boxes needed for my leftovers, because of course I needed boxes after ordering all of that. I love this place. I've gone here a couple times and the service is always on top! They have two direct areas: one for regular dining and another for hibachi if you'd like a cool show by very talented chefs!! They offer lots of refills when necessary. Not to mention the sushi bar if you'd like that as another option to your visit. There are plenty of menu options and even some simple appetizers such as a salad or soup. The place is very family friendly, affordable for anytime you'd like to visit, and welcoming! Definitely give it a try. :) Minor Downfalls: Although the place is highly worth a 5 star review, I would like to mention a few negatives of the place. Parking? I wish it was a bit bigger, as there is usually very limited space and it can be hard to find parking at times... especially during dinner hours. Secondly, the place is moderately small -- this means not as much seating, which then equals longer wait lines. I remember coming here a while ago and it was PACKED like literally an hour to almost two hour long wait. Buyer beware, they charged my credit card over $14,000.00 in what was explained to me as a "tip out incident". When I called and talked to one of their staff he made it sound like this is just "something that happens sometimes" and told me sometimes during tip outs they'll accidentally double or triple the charge, I'm not sure how you double or triple $36 and get $14k. The charge is still pending so that card is completely unusable as they maxed it out with their charge until the pending amount falls off. I've always really enjoyed Koi Sushi so I'm pretty disappointed by the whole thing and don't feel comfortable dining there anymore after this. read more

When you have a hankering for hibachi, Koi Sushi fits the bill! We came here on a Sunday night because we were hoping for some good hibachi surf and turf and we were not disappointed! The restaurant appeared empty at first. When we got inside, there weren't many patrons and it may have been because we got there at 7pm on a Sunday but shortly after we ordered our drinks, our hibachi table filled up. We ordered hot saké and it was excellent. We also went with the Koi special for two persons. It comes with steak, shrimp, scallops and lobster for $47! That also includes soups and salad! It was a great deal! I had enough to take home to have again for lunch the next day. It was a great option for a date night scenario. The chef kept us entertained and the service was excellent. I don't like fried rice so a quick question about steamed rice for the waitress resulted in me having a bowl of it almost instantaneously. We had a great time at Koi! I have eaten at Koi many times while staying in Gulfport for business trips. Food was ready when promised for pick up. When I arrived to pay, I stood waiting behind a customer as the manager and the customer carried on a friendly conversation after he paid for about 5 or more minutes. He looked at me but I was never acknowledged and left standing there as they discussed mutual friends and small talk about what was going on that particular weekend. Of course, I got sweet tea to drink, water, and a hot green tea. Order the Hamachi Kama (yellow fin tuna) gilled (charbroiled) fish neck. Tuna Tower (rice, snow crab, avocado and raw sashimi tuna cubes with a sprinkle of black fish eggs over lettuce) kinda small, however, it is an appetizer not a full on meal, in my opinion, but very good. Squid Steak, I don't know any place that sells it locally. Only place is seen it is in NYC, L.A. , and the Philippines, and vegetable tempura to dine in. We ordered beef lo-mein to go too. Very good and super fresh! All were excellent! Definitely worth it! Especially if you're in Gulfport by the airport. It's kinda hard to get to since it's in a small shopping center. The seat are comfortable. Booth seating, the back has great support but the bottom is hard after a while but has padding. If you can sit for while; you will be fine. Not too long you might get sore. They offer a military discount with valid ID. It offers WiFi, I don't know if it is free but is password protected. Please ask your server. Full disclosure: this review is based on one to-go order, and honestly, I chose this restaurant because of proximity to my lodging. However, I called them in order to pick up three rolls to go with less than 25 minutes to go before closing, and I was very satisfied. The spider roll (deep-fried softshell crab) was as good as I have had anywhere in the last couple of years. Nice and fresh, and perfectly fried. I also ordered the crawfish roll -- hey, I'm along the Gulf Coast, and the crawfish was perfect in a sushi roll -- very fresh -- a very unique sushi experience. This roll does just what sushi should do, which is offer fresh, local seafood in rolls. Bear in mind that they add just a bit of spice in this roll. Lastly, I had what is for me a classic role. The yellowtail with scallion. As with the other two, it was fresh and outstanding. So all in all, this is an outstanding dining choice if you are in Gulfport, near I-10. read more

I've been going to Kio's for over 20 years. They have great service and the people are so nice. The chefs also make your experience very fun. The atmosphere is very cozy. It's a great spot to take a date. Their Sushi rolls are the very best in town, and Egg Drop Soup is too. I love their Hibachi everything is fixed to order and cooked right there in front of you. II give Kio's Sushi and grill FIVE STARTS any day of the week!!! There's no place in the Mississippi Gulf Coast that I've been to that can compare to the quality of service and tastiness of their food. So if you're looking for a great place to eat as far as Sushi goes, I recommend going to Kio's. Once again it is a very nice place to kick back and enjoy good service, drinks and food. The group I'm with was headed to another place but it was closed and I'm glad it was because this place was great. We were seated immediately when we came in and the staff was very quick to take drink orders and our orders. We sat at the hibachi table with a couple that weren't with our group but that was cool. The waiter took our dinner orders and a short time later a grill chef came out to do the hibachi. We all ordered something different and he was on point with everything. The food was all cooked to order and very tasty. The grill chef was professional, funny and entertaining as well. The restaurant was clean and had great decor.
