Sushi feast! From left to right Mango Tango, Thunder, Roll Tide, Kimberly, Who-Dat, Wasabi Tobiko and Eel Roll
    Lanie U.

This was my 2nd visit to Koi Sushi in Gulfport, & I've found my new favorite sushi place in Mississippi. I used to go to Sho-Ya back in the late 90's and early 2000's before Katrina wrecked so many places. I would travel from Alabama just for their sushi. Now I've found another one that I like enough to travel for. It's a relatively small place, with one side dedicated to teppanyaki grills and one side dedicated to regular dining. There is a small bar/ sushi bar as well. This trip was shortly after 5 pm, and 2+ of the teppan tables were already full and in cooking mode. My boyfriend and I sat in the dining side, first table for the night, and we were quickly greeted by the welcoming and friendly Cynthia. I had already studied some of the menu so I at least narrowed SOME of the rolls down that I wanted to try. He got an egg drop soup and I got a cucumber salad to nibble on while i wrote down our sushi feast. I LOVE Uni, so I am always stoked to see places that offer sea urchin. That is an "always order" for me. They also offer foie Gras nigiri (which I've only ever seen at Jinsei sushi in Birmingham AL). I got the foie nigiri as well (instead of the scallop with foie Gras that I tried last time). The foie nigiri was tasty but a little skimpy compared to what I've had before. On to the rolls. I got SO many. There was Mango Tango Roll, Thunder Roll, Roll Tide Roll, Kimberly Roll, Who Dat Roll, Wasabi Tobiko Roll, and Eel Roll. Of these my favorite was definitely the Kimberly roll (spicy salmon & hamachi inside, topped with avocado, salmon, hamachi, Serrano peppers, garlic mayo, crunchy garlic, and eel sauce). Somehow these thin round slices of Serrano weren't mouth murdering like the ones inside the Thunder roll (which was very tasty too but I had to take the pepper pieces out and only bite a tiny bit with each piece). I wouldn't get the Who Dat roll again (I've found I'm not a big fan of crunchies on top of rolls), and possibly not the Thunder Roll bc it was SO spicy. All the other rolls I would get again. The mango tango roll was really nice and different with the coconut shrimp and mango on top. I hope Cynthia will be there the next time I get to go because she was so friendly and efficient. She joked with us and just made us feel very welcome. Kept our drinks filled and offered to bring us any sauce we'd like. She brought exactly the right amount and size of boxes needed for my leftovers, because of course I needed boxes after ordering all of that. I love this place. If I lived closer I'd be here all the time.

Great place, nice pricing on the lunch specials. Three options hibachi side, dine in side, and takeout. My party of three had a lot of specifics that we ordered, and our server Mawr(spell check) was outstanding. She regularly checked up on our table and kept our drinks topped off. It has a romantic vibe I can imagine at night because the lighting is low. If you have some time during lunch make a stop here.

Great food, service, and location! they have a pace, tables, dining tables, and booths. Love coming here for their delicious sushi!

    Veggie roll-almost all rice now

Use to be 5 stars. We loved this place but the last few months have been a disappointment. The quality and taste of the food is still good, for what you get, but the rolls have become 80% rice. I understand cost of food is up but getting a $15 roll that's majority rice is ridiculous. I put a picture of a veggie roll and yes it's a cheaper roll but It use to be filled with vegetables. What they serve now is a complete rip off.

When we arrived at Bonfire me and my date were the only ones there. I have no idea how long it had been open but it looked brand new. The atmosphere was very pleasant. I loved the lighting fixtures and the design of the seating area. There was also a dj that added to the atmosphere. Bonfire being a Jamaican restaurant I thought it apt to order the Jerk Chicken. You get 2 sides with the entree. I ordered the mac and cheese and french fries. My date got the catfish along with the potato salad and french fries. I was eager to dig in when the food came back. First off the fries were very crisp and fried to perfection. The mac and cheese was delicious. It was some of the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time. The jerk chicken was absolutely amazing. It came with the jerk sauce on the side. Honestly, I really didn't need it. The chicken had a delicious smoked flavor. It tasted like chicken you'd eat at a summer bbq. I can not say enough about the jerk chicken. I tasted the catfish my date ordered and it was really good too. I really would love to come back here and try more things.

They charge $4 for drinks like tea, and I had to ask for a refill despite it being obviously empty. I had jerk chicken ($16.75) and it was very flavorful and tender, but they hack up a leg and thigh with a cleaver so you have to pick through a lot of bone and there wasn't all that much meat. For the sides I had potato salad which looked like it came from a plastic tub at the grocery store, but the plantains were very good. Total of everything plus a drink and tip was over $26 - for lunch! Overall, I don't think it's worth the price. The inside was very nice and clean but the place was pretty empty at noon on a weekday.

I've…read moreeaten at many different locations before and usually enjoy the food, but the way I was treated during this visit was completely unacceptable. From the moment I interacted with the staff, the service was rude and dismissive. Instead of being greeted politely or treated like a paying customer, the employees I dealt with seemed irritated that I even had questions about my order. Their tone was short and unprofessional, and it made the whole interaction uncomfortable. What really crossed the line, though, happened when I was handed my to-go order. While passing me the to-go box, the employee shoved it forward carelessly and ended up hitting me directly in the face with it. There was no apology, no acknowledgment, and no concern shown afterward. It felt extremely disrespectful and honestly shocking that something like that could happen and be brushed off like it didn't matter. Customer service should always involve basic respect and professionalism. Accidents can happen, but the complete lack of accountability or apology afterward made the situation much worse. No customer should feel disrespected or physically struck, even accidentally, when simply picking up their food. I hope management takes situations like this seriously and works on improving how customers are treated. A restaurant's reputation isn't just about the food--it's also about how people are treated when they walk through the door.

The atmosphere is casual but with an upbeat tone. I do not know how the experience in the evening is. However, during lunch time seems to be a great casual /classy lunch experience. I forgot her name, she was amazing! She asked if we like something to drink. I mentioned it was too early for a drink. Much appreciated. They do have a large selection of alcohol. (Drink responsibly). If not drink, how about delicious appetizer. We thank her and declined on both. Just ask for sweet tea. She came back with our drinks. She mentioned that they are offering special if we are interested. It sounds great so I asked for it. We started out with the silly Philly sandwich that comes with fries. Looks delicious. The sandwich is melted cheese with sliced thin steak meat. Comes with thinly sliced green peppers and onions. And of course, the special. It looks so delicious as it came out. I surprised how big it was. Appeared to be a big a large potato or size of two potatoes. Loaded up with small pieces of steak, shrimp, green peppers, onions, sauce (hard to describe), and light dusting of seasoning on it. Overall, great experience! We are glad we went. WiFi I can tell.
