I visited here on a Saturday afternoon at about 3PM, so we were within the "lunch" period which ends at 4PM. The price for all-you-can-eat lunch is $13.95 per person, and for dinner it's $17.95 per person. Very very affordable, especially considering how much I typically spend for a la carte sushi! There are 2 ways to get your AYCE food: grabbing items from the conveyor belt, or ordering from your server. Our server's name was Robert and he was on top of his game with keeping our drinks refilled and explaining how it works too. The menu is almost completely made up of items that are included in the AYCE price; there are a handful that you can order separately that are between $1-3 each, full size rolls. So, still super affordable. Everything we had was freshly made and great flavors. I don't remember everything my sister S ordered but I tried the Sakura Roll, Sex on the Beach Roll, High Roller, Keelia's roll, and an avocado roll. We also ordered some crab balls, miso soup, and edamame. They bring you wasabi & ginger, along with soy sauce as well as eel sauce and spicy mayo. You get the sushi train rolls as well as rolls in their special menu plus some ala cart items too. The sushi taste great as well as their sushi rice. I am very particular about sushi rice as many places don't use enough rice wine vinegar or sugar. Their rice is just right! Highly recommend. We've tried their sushi train, hibachi, and hot pot. Our favorite is their hot pot! From their regular soup, tomato, and the new tom yum soup. It's delicious! I like ordering two sauces the meat lovers and seafood lovers. I mix both of them together and they're delicious! We are often here...1x maybe 2x a week at times. The staff is always friendly and the owners are amazing. Support local business! Go to Sakura! Nope for me. The sushi was practically doused in sauce. I couldn't even taste the fish, which is supposed to be the most important part of a sushi roll. The sushi was huge, but that made it prone to breakage every time I tried to pick it up. The first looks incredibly old too. Where does this place get their supply of fish? Especially when San Marcos doesn't have any reputable stores to buy fish that's high quality enough to safely eat raw. Also, don't be tempted by the delivery option. There's a reason why genuine Japanese restaurants don't often give takeout boxes. Sushi meant to be eaten fresh, not stored in your freezer as the fish deteriorates even more. I came to sakura in San Marcos after reading some awful reviews online but I wanted to see for myself. From what I've seen, everyone on Yelp are entitled assholes. I had a great experience and don't regret coming at all! People compared Sakura to expensive chain sushi restaurants and also didn't take the time to try anything else they had to offer. We paid $19 for all you can eat sushi and MORE! If you're looking for Kobe sushi quality, you won't find it here but if you're a broke college kid and want an affordable substitute, sakura is the place to go. The angry edamame is the best tasting edamame I've had in a long time and I recommend it if you like spicy food! Our service was also great! I read a bad review saying that a server Robert didn't do a good job and was "high." But let me tell you even if he was which I don't think so, he was ON TOP of everything! He was very helpful and explained everything so thoroughly! He brought everything out so quickly and checked in on us from time to time. So whoever hated on our boy Robert, you suck. A lot of the reviews hated on the service but clearly nobody who wrote those reviews have been servers before. I've been to Sakura many times and have always had a decent experience but this time was so different. We went midday and were seated quickly. We then waited for nearly 10 minutes until a server finally made his way over to greet us. He told us that he wasn't told he was our server. He apologized many times and was very quick to take our drink order and get us our drinks and appetizers. A few minutes later he came up to us and told us that he was told he he had to go on break. He left and we were yet again left with no server. Our new server didn't come and greet us for approximately 15 minutes. The sushi belt was also very bare and we saw the same rolls go by many times. While eating, we hear and observe the Male Manager yelling and embarrassing his son as well as snapping at the Host. It was absolutely appalling to witness. We will not support a business that treats their employees and child like this. There is a proper way to address and or coach on issues. The lack of respect by this Manager or Owner is ridiculous. I'm from Hawaii we're raw fish and sushi is life. The best thing about this place was the shrimp tempura, except, you don't even get an entire shrimp, you don't even get half. The rice in the sushi was mushy, and you can taste more vegetables than fish. We were told the sushi train was non-functional, and after ordering, it started going. I have given this place multiple tries and have really never been wowed. It tries to be a sushi train and falls short (Try Kura in Austin instead). It tries to be an all you can eat sushi and falls short (Try Kobe instead). It tries to be a sushi restaurant and falls short (Try Umami instead). The food is neither good nor bad, it's just... meh and flavorless. The options are very limited and sparse. You can watch the train and there are maybe a total 5-8 items going around and atleast 2-3 that are always completely out. Outside of the food, the wait staff was very disorganized. I ordered a Crab Ball (because it was out on the train), miso soup, Potstickers, and Ramen. I only got the ramen without asking where the rest of the food was. About 10 minutes passes by and I ask our waiter where the rest of the food was at. He said that they put more of those items on the sushi train. I had seen the items there but didn't grab them because I didn't want multiple of the same items. Another 5-10 minutes passes he brings me the potstickers and crab ball, which weren't even hot, then I have to remind him about my miso soup. My miso soup was the first item ordered and last item received. Overall, the experience from when they opened to now has always been mediocre and I forsee it as being the same. The food is on par with buffet grade sushi. My advice, go anywhere else in San Marcos. read more

He was very informative and patient with all our questions. Our primary visit was to try the hot pot. We have never tried it before. One of my favorite places in SM. If you're really hungry, this is the place to go. Their all you can eat menu includes their fantastic sushi train so you can start eating the minute you sit down. It also includes a variety of dishes and lots more sushi. Everything from gyoza, fried rice, yakisoba, chicken katsu, and even ice cream. And the food is horrible. I ordered sushi/ sashimi. All the piece of fish was very very thin. Some pieces were full of water like if they put water inside the meat, this was weird. And the raw tuna has a fade pink color and was salty...also weird. This night was the worst experience ever. It's not the freshest I have ever had and it's not the worse, it's slightly above average. The thickness of the cut of fish is thin. The rice and other fillers was fresh. This was the main reasons I gave a 3 star rating. Service was good, the food is on a conveyor. The place looked clean in the dinning area... could not see the food prep area. Went here to try another AYCE sushi place in San Marcos (we have been to Kobe and had a fantastic experience, but like to try new places often and are big sushi fans). The reviews seemed very promising, but our experience was no good to say the least. The prices are higher than their competitors by $2 per person and they do not offer nearly the same selection. There is no nigiri offered in the AYCE. Just rolls that 99% include shellfish, which I do not eat. So that significantly limited the food options for me. If you want pieces of sushi (not rolls) they charge you and extra 85 cents per piece. The cucumber salad came with a load of artificial crab on top, which I removed, even though that was not mentioned on the menu. The cucumbers themselves had no real dressing or flavor. Fried rice with meat had maybe two small pieces of chicken. Noodles with veggies came with just sliced onions on them and were super oily and flavorless. Miso soup was good. Spring rolls were mushy and came with no sauce. House salad was inedible with so much PINK dressing on it that I couldn't see green lettuce and was just swimming in sauce (so I just set this aside). Ginger was dry and old. Wasabi was browning. When we asked for better ginger the waitress went to get more and asked if what she gave us was any better as that is the color of their ginger that is presliced in the fridge. Seemed like an odd response to asking for fresh condiments. I ordered one Red Sox roll. It was fairly good. Had lots of sauce on top and that was mostly what could be tasted. But due to the heavy sauce I wasn't really experiencing the fish. So I ordered one more roll with salmon and cucumber.(salmon is my all time favorite sushi). Immediately when it came I could tell it was off. It smelled very fishy and tasted even fishier. I mentioned it to my husband and he also took a bite and agreed and said just send it back. I would normally just have not eaten it and ended my meal, but they did have a sign that said they charge for unfinished food so I let the waitress know and she said she would tell the chef. We then asked for our bill. The waitress then pointed at my uneaten pink salad massacre and said "what about that salad?" I explained it was not edible. She said "what was wrong with it?" I told her about the obscene amount of dressing. She said "well that is the way we serve it." I told her I understood but was not going to eat it. She seemed frustrated and said "what do you want me to tell the chefs?" My husband then asked her what the real issue was and she said they charge for uneaten food. He said "ok, what is the charge then as she is not going to force herself to eat it." She said it was 50 cents. "He said we don't care to have this conversation anymore for 50 cents. Charge what you need to charge please so we can leave." This seemed almost retaliatory due to sending back the roll and mentioning the ginger. And honestly it was embarrassing to feel like I had to explain to a younger lady why I was not going to eat something on the table that cost them all of 50 cents to make at BEST. Do yourself a favor. Go to Kobe a couple miles away from here. You will thank me later. Skip this place and save your money and your tastebuds. read more
