    CALIFORNIA ROLL

If you like a lot of rice in your sushi you will like this place. I prefer more fish and vegetables and was not a fan of the sushi here. I got the California Roll and some of the pieces were just cucumber and avocado.

Very Pricey. The flavor was simple. Not sure how everyone like this place but I came thinking I was going to get out of this world sushi.

This is a high four star review - HIGH. ALMOST there to 5!…read more Fatty salmon and scallion roll all day long. Delicious and buttery and so fresh. Huge pieces of fish and the nicely wrapped roll. We also got the salmon roll, tuna roll, spicy yellowtail roll, gyoza, and the Hamachi Kama. Salmon and tuna rolls were plump pieces of fish and nicely wrapped. I love that there was plenty of fish in them instead of primarily rice. Spicy yellowtail roll was also very fresh and delicious. Nice and simple but fresh and tender. Gyoza were deep fried, but I wish they were more traditionally cooked which is pan fried - the softness of the dumpling and crunchy bottom is what I love about gyoza, but when deep fried it is all crunch and not as tender. The Hamachi Kama was the star. The moment it hit the table with the bowl of rice, it was game over. I was gnawing on the fin just to get some more of that tender fish. I love it when it is seasoned simply with sauce on the side. Perfectly seasoned and delicious - the fatty parts are my favorite. It also came with rice which my kiddo loved. I also enjoy that they put all the sushi on the platter a with garnish and even a color changing light! Little things like this presentation really make a difference, and it was great! The service was lovely. The gentleman at the front was so kind and appreciative. Each staff member we met was kind and welcoming. I would love to see a few more fresh fish rolls, but all together, we would definitely come back to Bluefin any day of the week. Lovely service, fresh fish, fish-forward rolls and wonderful presentation!

I told myself it was going to be a chill night. Just noodles, maybe a drink, nothing dramatic…read more The place looked promising from the outside--warm lantern light, a faded sign, that quiet hum of people who seemed like they knew what they were ordering. I stepped in, sat down, and pointed at something on the menu that had a picture of glossy, perfect noodles. What arrived... was not that. The noodles were pale, limp, and somehow both soggy and dry at the same time. I took one bite. It tasted like regret. Another bite--worse. There was a strange bitterness, like someone had boiled the concept of disappointment into broth. I waved the server over, but before I could say anything, the lights flickered. Once. Twice. Then everything went dark. When the lights came back on, the restaurant was empty. No customers. No staff. Just me... and the bowl of cursed noodles. A scratching sound echoed from the kitchen. I stood up--because of course I did--and took a few cautious steps forward. The swinging kitchen door creaked open on its own, like it had been waiting for me. Inside, the air smelled... wrong. Earthy. Damp. Ancient. Then something moved. At first I thought it was just a rat. Then I realized it was *far* too big. Then it stood up. "Ah," it said, its voice layered like a chorus of whispers. "The one who tasted the offering." I froze. "The... what?" "The noodles," it said. "A test. And you survived." Before I could respond, the floor beneath me collapsed. -- I woke up in a cavern lit by flickering green fire. Stone pillars carved with writhing rodent shapes surrounded me. In the center stood a towering figure--half rat, half something far older. "The Rat God," it declared, spreading its clawed arms. "Devourer of scraps. King beneath the cities. And now... your opponent." I didn't remember signing up for this. "I just wanted decent noodles," I said. The Rat God hissed. "Then you should have chosen wisely." It lunged. I barely dodged, rolling across the stone floor. My hand hit something--a broken metal ladle. Not exactly a heroic weapon, but I wasn't in a position to be picky. The Rat God struck again, claws carving grooves into the stone. I darted between pillars, heart pounding, trying to think. "Fight," it snarled. "Or be consumed." "Working on it!" I shot back. It charged. At the last second, I leapt aside and slammed the ladle into one of the glowing green flames. The metal flared with eerie light. I didn't question it--I just swung. The ladle connected with the Rat God's side, and it *screeched*, stumbling back. Okay. That worked. Now it was a fight. I ducked, dodged, and struck again, each hit glowing brighter. The cavern shook as the Rat God grew more frantic, more furious. "You are nothing!" it roared. "Yeah?" I said, breathing hard. "I survived your noodles." That seemed to genuinely offend it. With a final, desperate leap, I drove the glowing ladle straight into its chest. There was a blinding flash. Silence. -- I woke up back at my table. The restaurant was normal again. People chatting. Dishes clinking. The server standing beside me. "Everything okay?" they asked. I looked down at my bowl. The noodles looked exactly the same. I pushed it away. "Yeah," I said, standing up. "I'm... not that hungry anymore." As I walked out, I could've sworn I heard a faint voice from the kitchen: "We will meet again..." I didn't look back. Next time, I decided, I was getting takeout from somewhere safer.

What is our purpose? It's a question asked and never answered. As we sit on this floating rock…read moreaddicted to our curated algorithm, I worry our drive and desire for purpose is lessening. One weekend of whimsy and joy is enough to refuel the tank and bring that drive back. One $23 expenditure at Kobe Steak House & Sushi is enough to turn the light back on in my mind and create a divine spiritual experience. While visiting San Marcos for a friend's birthday, we were ultimately led to Kobe for dinner at the recommendation of his roommate. My friend was very excited to put some work in. We arrived a little before 7:45, and after a confusing queue where they messaged us that our table was ready before it was actually ready, we were seated at 8:00. Once you're seated, the waitstaff takes a drink order and explains the process if you need it. I'll explain it here: you're given a piece of paper where you mark what you want from a list identical to the menu. With a group, it's important to collaborate and make sure you get a good order in but not overdo it. Every piece you don't eat is a $.75 charge, so unless you have someone like me who locks in, be careful. For starters, they serve soup, appetizers like edamame, fried rice, rangoon, wontons, and more, plus salads. You order them at the same time as the sushi, but they come faster because the sushi has to be prepared at the bar. The sushi includes your traditional nigiri plus maki and specialty rolls. Once we threw in that first order, we were shortly munching on wontons, rangoon, fried rice, and everything in between. Everything here was good. Nothing too extreme flavor-wise or anything too memorable, but there was nothing I didn't like. Our first plate of sushi came out about 20-25 minutes after we placed the order. Off the dome, we ordered octopus nigiri, salmon nigiri, red snapper nigiri, a Philadelphia roll, a Shaggy Dog roll, a Spider roll, and a few other things I can't remember. I do strongly remember how heavenly the Shaggy Dog and Spider rolls were. It's important to understand that Kobe is not a premium sushi restaurant. Similar concepts that are higher-end can cost $50-$70 a person, and I think you can obviously tell how amazing higher-end sushi is. That concept and this concept are playing a different game. Kobe is in a college town where hungry college kids will shove as many rolls down their throats as they can. For the value, the quality is shockingly high in my opinion. However, I was moving sushi rolls through my system with such efficiency that it's hard to figure out if the rice was old or the sushi had freezer burn like another Yelp review said. Who cares. This place is doing exactly what it's advertising, and you're getting a better deal than what you're paying for. How can this be profitable for Kobe Steak House & Sushi? Our second order had another Shaggy Dog roll, another Spider roll, a TNT roll, and some more nigiri. By the time we burned through that, most of the table was full. I personally could have kept going, but everyone else was a quitter. At least that's what we thought. After our great waitress brought us our checks and we all paid, one of my friends made a big stink about how no one else wanted more and she would've had another Shaggy Dog roll. I wasn't going to let that slide, as I had voiced my opinion of getting another roll going well in advance. The waitress was nice enough to get us another roll after I proceeded to embarrass our entire table about it. We left Kobe before the managerial staff came out and beat us up one by one for being the most annoying table in Kobe history, but it was all worth it. Kobe is one of the best $23 meals I've ever had. A place that made me wish I had gotten a degree at Texas State. It opened my third eye. It was a meal so good we had to pull out the Tarot cards. I first want to say that our server Madison was wonderful and so friendly!…read more Outside the service, we were disappointed in Kobe. We may be a little spoiled after living in Vegas when it comes to fish quality, and the $15.99 AYCE lunch price may have been a clue, but this was not a solid meal. Some of the fish, specifically the albacore nigiri, was not fresh and was almost dry on top. The salmon was fine, but the tuna was cut poorly and had no flavor. The salmon, tuna rolls had a substantial amount of rice instead of fish, and I've never seen a tuna avocado roll with cream cheese before? At the most maybe some cucumber, but not cream cheese. And the fish in the salmon/tuna rolls was shredded like it was the leftover shreds from nigiri or other rolls. The rice was dry and old, perfect for fried rice, but not sushi. The only rolls that were OK were the Mexican Roll and the Tokyo roll, and they were fine, but then my son had the albacore nigiri and stopped eating. The seats were all torn up as well. The restaurant would benefit from a refresh. I'm not looking for a super fancy, especially when the prices are what they are, but there was a lot of opportunity here.

Cute spot in a brand new shopping plaza. We were seated right away and the restaurant was busy on a Sunday night! I started with the fresh rolls appetizer and my fiance got a thai tea. While eating the fresh rolls, I noticed there was a long black hair in them. We alerted our waitress right away and she apologized and brought a fresh order. No big deal. Then our entrees come - I got a stir fry vegetable dish and my fiance got pepper chicken with rice. Literally half way through eating it, there is another hair in his chicken. We were disgusted at this point. We got our waitress again and she took away the order and brought out a new one. She also gave us a small discount on the receipt. The food was really good and our waitress was really sweet but 2 long hairs in the same meal-- I won't be back to this location unfortunately.
