    Calamari

This meal was something special! I went with a large group as we were celebrating 2 birthdays and they truly went above and beyond with service and the meal. Mark was our server and was extremely attentive, patient, and personable. He really made the experience a fun time for everyone. Now for the food: Incredible!! I started off with the passionfruit soda that Mark sold me on. It was so so good. Great if you're looking for a mocktail. I can tell it was made with real passionfruit. I could drink this every day. For an appetizer I had the calamari. It's a big portion size and the calamari was perfectly seasoned and tender. The texture was perfect. I can tell they know what they're doing. For the entree I had the salmon and this was another winner. Salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the sauce I could drink. The real surprise was the yuca cakes. I thought it was a unique side and was apprehensive about it at first but it was delicious! Goes perfectly with the salmon and carrots. I had a fantastic meal and will definitely be back soon!

My wife and I went to Dayton for the weekend. After a long day of travel and spending hours in the Air Force museum, we were looking forward to a nice dinner out. Not being from the area, parking was a little challenging and probably should have taken an Uber from the hotel. Once inside, we were seated promptly and began perusing the menu. We mentioned to the server that my wife was GF and she brought the complimentary hummus with vegetables in addition to the pita squares. The baked scallops appetizer was delicious and would order that again. My wife had the roasted short ribs and the tenderness and flavor were spot on. I had the surf-n-turf dish and it was delicious.

Our first dining experience at Salar was for my daughters birthday, we had decided to try somewhere new to us. We were seeing a show later on and were hoping to find a restaurant downtown close to the Schuster Center. Salar is literally less then 5 minutes from the Schuster Center in the Historic Oregon District. When you walk into Salar you are met with the aromatic scents of the incredible dishes they serve, and the low lighting throughout the restaurant provides a relaxing and enjoyable ambience. The drink menu is extensive and the cocktails are very creative. We ordered a mocktail off the drink menu to try and it did not disappoint, "So Fetch" is a must try! If you like passion fruit you have to try their "Passion Fruit soda"! So refreshing! While waiting for our dinner order, you're given a bowl of their crispy pita wedges with their house made hummus, flavored with delicious spices, served on a bed of fresh spinach. We ordered the beef empanadas to munch as well and the are a perfect portion if For dinner we ordered the "Lomo Saltado Beef", the pan seared beef was mouth watering and flavorful. It comes with jasmine rice and a generous mount of the house made fries. We also ordered the "Chicken Skewers", the chicken is well seasoned and is grilled allowing just the right amount of char. It's topped with a green onion relish, and comes with grilled broccolini and potato cakes. The potato cakes were definitely something to try so soft and fluffy. If i had to have a complaint then I would have to say i wish the broccolini was cooked a bit more but thats not really a deal breaker, just a preference. The overall experience was great and we are definitely going to try more of their dishes soon. If you can't get to the restaurant to dine in, they are on DoorDash as well. Cheers and happy dining everybody!

Wow! The food was delicious, the ambiance is great and I really enjoyed the server. Need I say more? I looked up Michelin star restaurants in Dayton and although they currently do not have any, this restaurant came up. I loved the duck ragu. It was probably my favorite. We also got an amazing Bordeaux wine for $50. Definitely come here if you like good food for a slamming deal!

Went during happy hour and they have a great selection. Unlike some places that have a bunch of cocktails you don't want, this place had great prices on some staples like an old fashioned. I however enjoyed the Jane Doe No Dill which is a mezcal based cocktail that has such an unexpected flavor. Paired with the empanadas, this is a must try!

I have yet to find a hummus that I liked, let alone love!!! This was it! I wanted to spoon this hummus up, it was that good? I love elote and did not expect a restaurant in Ohio to have such a great one!!! The lamb shank was a bit overcooked but it was still great! The beets and blue cheese salad was amazing as well

The food was okay but the atmosphere was so bomb! I did enjoy the empanadas, the Spanish Croquetas (were my favorite) and the complimentary pita bread and hummus!! We were celebrating my daughter turning 23! She did receive a dessert on the house, she picked the tres leches. The cake wasn't flavorful in her opinion! Overall we would go back to try other dishes! The service was very good! My son in law paid an extra 25$ for the "chef's view", however there wasn't anything to really see to warrant the extra in my opinion! So maybe they should offer a chef exclusive experience or a chef's menu for the patrons that select the chef's view! Overall we did enjoy ourselves and would go back!

We had such a lovely family dinner here. My mother who is 100% gluten free (celiacs disease) was treated with the upmost respect. Our server was very attentive to her gluten free necessity. A lot of the menu is gluten free with items clearly marked. We were greeted at our tables with some delicious homemade pita bread and avocado hummus. It was lovely. My mother (who is gluten free) was personally brought her own little appetizer which still included the same hummus but with cold cut vegetables! What a lovely touch! For my meal, I tried the surf and turf which came with a perfectly cooked filet mignon, two grilled shrimp seasoned to perfection, and a scallop. The meats were served over chorizo risotto and green beans. It had this lovely and unique onion marmalade to go with the meat. I will be dreaming about this meal. It was seemingly delicious! For dessert we got something that I can't quite remember the name but it came with this heavenly cinnamon "ice cream" that I will be drooling thinking about until I eat here again!! Another thing that really set this place apart for me was that both of the drinks I requested and ordered were not on the menu. I asked for an espresso martini and a mojito. Both of which were perfectly made and delicious. Any restaurant/bar that can still make an amazing drink that is not on their menu gets extra brownie points from me. Overall, a 5 star experience. They have plenty of indoor seating and also a BACK hidden outdoor dining patio.

I would describe Salar as modern European chef-driven cuisine, with Peruvian being one of many influences. This classy restaurant is tucked in a corner on a cobblestone street in the heart of historic Oregon District. Its beautiful inside. The main dining room & bar gets busy and loud. There's a smaller more secluded room up front with its own little bar. Bar was not attended when we dined but I imagine it would be at busier times. We started with the calamari app which was a unique interpretation with a very spicy sauce. It made me thirsty- maybe that's the idea. I ordered Lomo Saltado as the quintessential Peruvian dish and I was a bit let down. The rice was separate from the rest and they don't offer those classic Peruvian condiments (the hot creamy green sauce) to drizzle over it. It wasn't bad, just not what I was hoping for. The star of the show was the short ribs my husband ordered, so full of flavor and meltingly tender. The polenta was perfectly seasoned and the presentation was beautiful including an edible flower. He admitted the flower was not the best; I cannot comment as I don't eat flowers. I am upset now browsing other reviews mentioning getting pita triangles with dip for a complimentary starter. I even asked our waiter if there was bread or something and he said NO, that the little plates were there in case you were sharing. Street parking is pretty much non existent but there's a pay lot right across the street. You have to go on a website to enter your plate # and credit card - and for Heaven's sake DON'T FORGET to log out before you drive away! Overall I really liked Salar and will return, and will definitely take them politely to task about the starter.

Tonight my wife and I decided to explore a taste of Peru from Salar, especially for its ceviche, sea bass, and lamb shank. Let me just say, it surpassed all our expectations. We were greeted with genuine smiles and an enthusiastic staff...Daniel kicked things off just right! For starters, we went with ceviche which had a burst of freshness! The ceviche was an absolute delight - tender, citrus-infused fish, perfectly balanced with the sweet and spicy notes of Peruvian peppers. It's a dish I'd come back for in a heartbeat The Sea Bass was the star of the evening. Cooked to perfection, the sea bass was flaky, moist, and infused with a blend of spices that highlighted its natural flavors without overpowering them. Paired with a side herbs and asparagus, it was a masterpiece The Lamb Shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, very flavorful, succulent, and well-seasoned as it practically melted in my wife's mouth. But you have to swap out the jasmine rice for risotto to really set the dish off The Tres Leches dessert is a sweet ending to an already fantastic meal. The cake was light, spongy, and soaked in just the right amount of creamy milk mixture, topped with a light whipped cream that wasn't too sweet but perfectly balanced As for the cocktails, including the hard to find Blantons, means no meal is complete without a great drink, and their cocktails were a hit! Creative, refreshing, and beautifully presented, each drink complemented our dishes wonderfully. Whether you're a fan of classics or in the mood to try something new, their bar won't disappoint, especially with Chelsea doing her thing! Overall, this Peruvian Dayton gem is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic flavors, exceptional service, and a dining experience that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even left. Whether you're a ceviche aficionado or eager to explore Peruvian cuisine, you're in for a treat. Don't miss out on this culinary adventure!

Fantastic ambiance, very attentive servers, fine spirits selection, and a delectable menu. Salar provides an excellent option for a finer dining experience where you will be treated with superb service and very tasty menu items with generous portions. The Lomo Saltado was purely reminiscent of the top-tier Lomo Saltado dishes I've had in the past. The beef here seems a bit of higher quality than your standard tho. The Machu Picchu Pork Chop was a behemoth but quality was not lacking despite the quantity served. The Duck Fried Rice was not a necessary order but I wanted to try it so there I was, in a gluttonous fashion just enjoying the delicious of every bite regardless of me being nearly full to capacity The duck flavor wasn't too overpowering, and the slight savoriness of the rice was so flavorful. I started the evening at the bar for drinks and slowly made my way to the main dining area. The bar is a very comfortable place to relax and enjoy cocktails. Coupled with friendly and attentive bartenders, I wouldn't have minded staying there all night. But the dining experience was also superb, with the wait staff being very pleasant and frequently checking in on our table.
