It was really fascinating to see what had been redone and expanded on. The indigenous America exhibit was fantastic, and it was very clear that Penn took the time to collaborate and show respect. I was a little bummed because it seems like the Ancient Greek exhibit has not changed at all. It's still in that little room. I hope when they finish up what they're doing with Ancient Egypt, they give that area a little thought and care.

Anytime we have out of town relatives visit, we take them there. It's so peaceful and also educational. Winter of 2026 was very bad this year and we noticed it has also taken a toll on their landscaping. With time, I'm sure it will be repaired. This place is worth an afternoon visit! Glass, yo, it's from Joy-zee!…read more This is a weird but cool arts campus in Millville, mainly about glass, but also housing a decent-size pottery guild, and a small building of textile/tribal arts. In addition to live glass blowing demonstrations, and special classes or make-and-take events for glass/pottery pieces, they have a glass museum with tons of history on glass in the USA. NJ had all the right conditions and materials (wood, sand, soda ash, and silica) for glass so it was the nation's main source of glass for a long period in US history. They make pottery and glass items on site that are sold in the store, and visitors can observe all of this being made. There is a long nature trail, a lake, historic schoolhouse, and various other interesting buildings on the campus. There are at least two stores, both with tons of glass and pottery/ceramic gift options, among other artistic mediums. There is finer art glass sculpture available too, in the gallery store. Wheaton offers a handful of free admission days every year (mostly in summer), including the Fire Muster, with a bunch of fire engines and firemen! They also host craft shows, holiday themed weekends, and other festival events. Live music and food trucks are normally part of any event day. It's a very fun place, and easily can take 2 hours to explore everything. My last visit I was there 3 hours and still didn't get to the nature trail. Nearby Vineland has many great food options, especially Puerto Rican.

I have visited the museum many times over decades but in the last two years since joining, I've probably visited just as much as I did in all the time prior. There's quality diverse program on top of the standing exhibits in the galleries and visiting ones. I am a born Wilmingtonian and have always enjoyed culture and the arts, which again is why I have frequented this museum many times before, but I think it's a jewel that many locals neglect to appreciate. You don't have to go to the larger regional cities for acclaimed artists as many are here. The proximity to other places of interest in the area, can allow you to enjoy this and many others during a day or weekend trip if you're not local or live outside of the city. Join the mailing list and check the events because there is always something going; the images on my review are from a few of them. I keep saying I'm there so much I should join the team, but this is my way of supporting in sharing this review.

Approximately an hour into our visit we were ushered out of one of the exhibits on the first floor and told that exhibit would be closing. Thought it was odd that a particular exhibit in the museum would be closing early, but we complied, simply moving on to other exhibits. At approximately 4:20 we were in a room on the second floor and the lights suddenly went out (pitch black, can't see your hand in front of your face, darkness). We were stunned for a moment before using our phone flashlights to safely exit. We were then met at the door by a confused staff member who stated that the museum had actually closed at 4pm. We began making our way toward the exit, explaining that the website listed that the hours were until 8pm on Thursdays. We were then stopped by a second employee who accused us of having entered the room *after* the lights had been turned off (because, as everyone knows, the best way to view art is in total darkness). She then said that we had already been informed that the museum was closing. ("Exhibit" and "museum" mean different things.) We explained once again that the website listed Thursdays' hours until 8pm. Rather than appreciate the confusion (much less apologize for the communication error), she insisted that we must have been looking at the hours for the following week (not true) and added a superfluous directive to leave (as we were literally stepping toward the exit). Up to this point, we had been enjoying our visit. However, this rude encounter certainly marred our experience

Yes, I've been to Amsterdam and this looks just like them. That's because the Zwaanendael Museum was designed to honor the city hall in Hoorn, Netherlands. The museum exhibits the history and settlement of the southern coast of Delaware. I thought the train lines were very interesting as well as the Delftware on display. Perhaps you missed that Lewes was bombarded by the British during the War of 1812 (there's a house with a cannonball not far away). The museum is free but definitely accepts donations. Most of the specimens are world class, and many were donated by Irénée du Pont, Sr. He started collecting them as a child, and some he purchased through Tiffany. There are donations from others as well. Exhibits include regional minerals, American and Canadian minerals, crystals, minerals from caves, and gems. This is the only museum I have ever visited where I was able to see everything in a few hours, but it really is fascinating.
