I had a colonoscopy on July 2, 2025. The procedure itself was fine, as expected. I am angry about the bowel prep I was instructed to get (Plenvu). That stuff does work, but it is a foul tasting substance. I found out after my procedure that there are other, more palatable options. I was never informed that these options existed, and I feel that their arbitrary choice was not patient friendly. I will recommend against this business because of that. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would! They absolutely FAIL customers from the very beginning! My doctor sent them a referral to call me for scheduling, they never did. Then when I tried to call them (once a week for 6 weeks in a row - with voicemails left each time) I never received a response. Only after my husband WALKED IN to schedule his, he told them I had been trying for almost 2 months, he was told they only have 1 scheduler, who was not there at that day and is just too busy to get back to everyone. I finally rcvd a text with instructions to download all kinds of forms, complete them & call them again. NOPE! They will NEVER get my business! I went to Santiam Hospital for my colonoscopy and they were AMAZING! Andrea K's (CEO) comment about not knowing why my husband was told in person that they only have 1 scheduler, when Andrea says they have more, is just more evidence of their incredibly poor service! read more

After being told that my insurance would cover all my costs I was given a bill of 250$. They said my insurance must have changed from the time they ok'd it till the surgery (one week?). Such a shame since I was so careful to check. Now I must pay at 5$ a month till it's paid off. Something I can I'll afford. read more

Another fantastic time w/my Gastrologist, Dr. Ponec; this is my 5th time here and I won't be back for 5 years, YEA! The check -in is super easy and the people are very efficient and easy to deal with, especially Emily & Sharon(anesthesiologist) and you have your own individual room, too. I don't remember everyone's name since I was "spaced out" ha-ha but we finshed before my appointment was even suppose to start. I like the warm blankets, too. Brutal experience for my wife today. She went through the night before preparation for a surgical procedure which wasn't fun and was really expensive (over 160 dollars). She had to take today off work, I had to take the afternoon off. We got there to check in and she was sent home because she had a sniffle. I understand Covid is concerning however we communicated that she had a recorded through the state (she works as a teacher at a local elementary school) Covid positive test 6 weeks ago, was fully vaccinated, had no other symptom and most likely was suffering from allergies due to the changing weather. The dr never saw her to discuss the policy or check to see if her symptoms actually resembled Covid. A nurse came in to say that "the new COVID's main symptom is congestion" and the dr is requiring that you be symptom free and have a hospital PCR Covid test in order to proceed with the procedure, would you like to reschedule?". Bedside manner was terrible, no "hey I'm sorry" or anything from any nurse and a dr was never seen. My wife left in tears, we are out money, time and sick leave without actually seeing a dr. This should be made abundantly clear on the instructions prior to the procedure date that this is the policy. read more

If you can find an alternative to Salem Gastro, do so. It's nearly impossible to reach them, even if you are an established patient. When you call, you get an answering machine that says "Leave a message and someone will get back to you in 48 hours." Of course nobody returns your call. I've actually driven to the clinic and walked in to talk to someone in person because they don't return calls. Incredibly frustrating; it leaves a patient with no alternative but Urgent Care if they're having a serious problem. To be fair, once I've actually gotten to a doctor, it's been okay - but then if you need follow-up, forget it. Go up to Portland if you have to, but avoid Salem Gastro. read more

I was sent to see dr em due to my liver having cirrhosis, he 1st saw me in the hospital and was so awful and told me to schedule a appointment for 3 months in the future, when i finally saw hem as he rescheduled he looked at me and said oh i thought you would be dead by now. Yes i was in bad shape but a 36 yr old mom of 3 my youngest 8 at the time and hearing this scared me so bad.how could he say that to anyone. read more

Had my colonoscopy and endoscopy done Dec 16, 2020 for chronic anemia. Very good experience. I got my prep kit 3 days before the scheduled date but kit was missing instructions. They happily emailed me the instructions upon calling them and answered all my questions. The day of the procedure I was a little apprehensive but was soon at ease as soon as I entered the clinic. All the staff I met was very courteous and helpful. the process went like clock work and was informed of an ulcer causing my anemia and the corrective action. In a nutshell great experience, Dr. Choueri and staff were terrific. Will be definitely be going back when the need arises. read more

Horrible service. Claimed they told me that I needed to have my ride home wait in the lobby during the 2 hour procedure. Was NEVER told that. Only told to have my ride check in at counter to be released after. Appt was cancelled. Sent home walking an hour+ in the rain, in pajamas. Receptionist laughed when I was visibly upset. Rude, unprofessional and lack of empathy for patients I was called 20 mins before they closed by a very rude employee of this clinic to either come in the next day or drive to Dallas Or to see the MD (new patient here). They called in Jan. about an appointment I had for an upper GI consult in Feb. She basically said come in tomorrow or wait until the middle of next month and drive all the way to Dallas, Or to see MD. No options. I work and can't just tell my employer at the end of the day that I can't come to work tomorrow just like i'm sure she can't. I even explained to her that I just had surgery and driving all the way to Dallas wasn't an option she didn't even acknowledge hearing this bit of information. Is this a doctors office or a cattle farm. I'm human. If they treat you like this before they see you in person I can only imagine how they treat you in office. Salem clinic recommended this clinic and being new to Oregon I hope this isn't the type of treatment I'll be getting from other healthcare centers. I cannot believe the only way to get an upper GI in Salem is to go to this clinic but that's what I've been told. read more

I was scheduled last year for a screening colonoscopy, but didn't come in. So, when I scheduled it this year, I went in for the pre-colonoscopy appt. with Mr. Butler. He asked me if I was having problems, and I said yes, so when they billed my insurance, they didn't bill it as a routine screening procedure, but that I had the colonoscopy because I wasn't feeling well. WRONG. Now my insurance wants me to pay the $250 copay, where it would have been 100% covered if they had submitted the bill as it should have been!!!!!! Called and spoke to someone in the billing dept. and got absolutely no where!!!!!! I am retired and I live on my SS. I do not have this money, especially when I should have been covered. I will go to Portland for my next colonoscopy, rather than EVER set foot in their office again!!! Greedy, money hungry MOMOPOLY is what this outfit is. read more

Was having GI problems and was referred to Salem Gastro by my family practitioner. Got an appointment with Mr. Butler, who scheduled a colonoscopy. The results of the colonoscopy were fairly normal, but I still had the problems. I called for a follow-up appointment, and was told I would have to wait two months for an appointment. I got annoyed and planned to go to another clinic, but called back a few days later and was placed on the cancellation list. Finally got in and saw Mr. Butler. Further tests and it was discovered I had a pancreatic insufficiency. I then saw Dr. Em, and he ordered a CT scan. To their credit, they eventually got my insurance to preapprove the procedure after being refused at least three times. When the results came in, I was not notified, and learned of the results on the patient portal 10 days before anyone from the clinic let me know. Then I had a test for SIBO, which returned positive. Put on antibiotics, but told there was no further testing planned to see if the condition was taken care of, which I thought was strange. All in all, I think they provided decent care from Mr. Butler and Dr. Em, but the atmosphere is that of a big business. read more

I am an established patient here. Called the triage nurse about a bad CT scan. Not helpful or compassionate at all about current symptoms. Very cold. She just told me to talk to my GP doctor until Salem Gastro. could evaluate me further. I liked the front staff the lady that checked me in was nice. I like Dr. Hoda! She had great chair side manners. The appointment was quick. However I didn't care for the scheduler for the procedure in the back. She just picked a date and was like how about this instead of asking honestly what would work better for me. Then they said they will put a note on my chart for a Friday appointment and I called today and the scheduler in the back to me was just unfriendly. She didn't care about hearing honestly about me talking about a date that works best for me. I feel she just was condescending to me regarding what schedule works better for me. I just feel to get the date I need I have to make the effort to call them to see if the schedule is opened up for May. That was the worse part of the whole appointment... everyone else was good and nice!!! I just think the scheduler could be a bit more understanding on people's schedules and such and actually seem like they care I guess. So I will call in a couple weeks if I don't hear from them like I was told to see if the May schedule is open... But again Dr. Hoda is great and the front office was great as well!!! I am not fearful of my upcoming appointment at all thanks to the ones who do care!!! read more

On 04/07/2022 I had a colonoscopy appointment with Dr. Hoda at Salem Gastroenterology. The preparation for this is exhausting and strenuous for me. The check-in was pleasant. Kathryn, the RN was very nice, and we enjoyed a short conversation about Traveling RN's. She asked questions and I answered them all thoroughly and correctly. She left, time passed, and things did not progress as I suspected they would. When the RN returned, I inquired if there was a problem. She noted the Anesthesiologist was not going to perform his/her job. I asked why and the answer was not clear to me. I noted that Dr. Hoda had performed this same procedure five years previously, and that I had just had a gallbladder removed a few months prior to this appointment and everything went fine. I was certainly anesthetized at that time. Kathryn left and Dr. Hoda and a lady that I did not catch the name of came in and related that the anesthetists would not perform his/her job. Again, I asked why, and there was no good reason given to me. I noted again, to Dr. Hoda and the other nice lady that they had performed this procedure five years earlier and that I had just had a gallbladder removed a few months before. None of this seemed to make a difference to them, they just offered their apologies. One of them noted someone will call me and reschedule, are you kidding me!!!!! I have starved myself for two days, I'm exhausted, tired and they offer to reschedule! Thoroughly disgusted I left. In very short order I received a phone call from Erin stating that Dr. Hoda had reached out to another doctor to perform the procedure later in the afternoon. So, evidently there is no problem in anesthetizing me if they found someone else to perform the job. Erin noted that the other doctor would be able to "fit you in between cases this afternoon". At this point in time, I had already starved myself for over 48 hours and was not willing to wait until "this afternoon" to see if I could possibly be fit in somewhere, when I had a confirmed appointment with Dr. Hoda at 06:30 hours. I have noted Dr. Hoda's name consistently in this review because she is who I had an appointment with. She probably does not hold full responsibility for this debacle however, she is who I had an appointment with, not the anesthesiologist. I asked for the anesthesiologist's name but was not provided with it. Everyone but the anesthesiologist said they were sorry and I'm sure they are. But to put it quite bluntly apologies are just not acceptable. They don't repair a darn thing for the victim. FYI read more

I was denied life saving medicine for 5 years by Mindy Glivinski. She told me my insurance would not cover it as she performed unnecessary surgery and procedures. I found out they weren't submitting a request for this medication. I turned her/ Salem Gastro into my insurance and Salem Hospital. I was told they only share a building and they could do nothing. Unless you'd like to chance being a lab rat I'd say away form Salem Gastro and ALL of its staff. read more

Wait times can get long but I think this is true at any doctor especially specialists like gastroenterologists, I do not mind. Worth it for great staff and doctors. I feel like they care about me and make sure I thoroughly understand my test results. I really like Mindy Glivinsky a lot but I have heard good things about many of their doctors and nurses as well. for your own safety and your life think twice about seeing dr. gates, he ruined my life, i'm on disability for the rest of my life due to the ignorance and lack of knowledge on patient care, he makes life altering mistakes and makes you live with them, he mask my pain and suffering by guilting me into not suing him, by begging me and promising to make sure i was taken care of by him and that he would never give up on my me and would provide the best care by him for the rest of his time as a doctor, he prayed on my kind heart and told me he was at the time being sued by another patients wife for poor care of her husband for getting him addicted to pain meds, well guess what for last 10 years he has medicated me with fetnal , vicodn, methadone. he was prescribing huge amount, then dropped me for no reason on january 25th when i called for a refill they said oh were no longer seeing you or anyone that we ever prescribed pain medication too, col turkey me.. this man is not a man, he didn't give the respect to sing me down or see me in person to tell me. he put me in danger of withdrawl and he hurt my heart my health and made me never trust in a dr. again. he has now tryed to do the same to a lady i know, same scenerii, he referer he to same lady, megan cavanaugh for same reason he did me, wrong surgey for the diagnosis, this lady butchered me at his next appointment he better me not to sue him, but sends another person to sure on who butchered me! this man is not lucket i didn't sue, but the fact he put another life at risk, i think he better pray a lawyer is knocking on his door real soon.. your a coward and have no right having a license to practice. you will one day feel the suffering you have caused other mr. gates. you are a bad dr. and a bad man read more

His whole team including Edna, Denise, Nicole , Tina, Vicki, Penny, Angie, Sandi, Betty and Josie made me feel so comfortable leading up to the procedure and afterward. Terrible service. This place is a money mill. You don't ever get to the doctor you were referred to. They call you while driving (they should be arrested for this). My wife went in for a procedure and had an allergic reaction to the unclean, tobacco saturated office. They didn't respond kindly to feedback. I was scheduled for a screening colonoscopy but was told that I had to meet with somebody prior to the procedure. So I met with a PA for less than 10 minutes who told me less than I had already read about on line. A couple weeks later I get my an EOB from my insurance company saying they were billed $417.00 and my portion was $62.13. I was under the impression that my insurance paid at 100 percent (which they do) but the billing department coded it as a "Diabetic Consultation". When I called and asked why the charge they "Book Keeper claimed it was because I am diabetic and have high blood pressure . Both of which are under control. How does somebody that is not even a doctor justify charging $2400 per hour for something that I had already read about on line. They are not Endocrinologist, and they charge twice what my doctor would charge and provide less service. SGC is owned by the doctors that work there and there is definitely a profit motive. I feel like they see dollar signs every time a new patient walks through the door. I am going elsewhere. read more
