I am always drawn into fabric stores while on a quest to secure fabric for my supremely artistic twin sister. I am not a quilter/crafter/sewer by any means. My twin sister has not met a fabric store she hasn't fallen in love with. So, for her, I went to the shop with no intention of purchasing material. I sent her photos of material. Next thing you know....one hour later... three large bags of material and $200 later, I escaped. Needless to say, my twin was pleased. Her particular favorites included the fabric with sewing cats and the Wisconsin-outdoor-printed fabrics. The Sewing Basket seems to be a community favorite- a gathering spot and a place that offers classes. The owner was very friendly and accommodating.

Then yesterday, I was looking through my Visa account to make sure there were no odd charges. Whadya know, there's a mystery $28 charge from Nancy's Notions. That was odd, since what I had ordered was $3.99; that charge also appeared on my account. Later in the day, I got a shipping confirmation from them, for something I didn't order, and probably never would have ordered. I called their customer service line this morning. They say they don't keep credit card information for security reasons, so this couldn't have happened. The only thing I can do is refuse the package, and they will eventually credit my account. They did say that they show that the order was placed over the phone; I'm guessing that someone else's order was charged and sent to me. Bottom line - don't ever order anything over the phone. They've really gone downhill over the past few months. If I could find everything I buy from them somewhere else, I would go there.

I have purchased my Serger and one of my favorite machines from them and the service is top notch. I know they have been in transition since the sad passing of Nancy which may explain some of the bad reviews. I only had one bad experience and it was a serger class that I took. The instructor was not someone from the store but the company. I thought there were too many people in the class and the instructor was not prepared enough. I can not blame the store or the girls for that. Do not be afraid to check this store out and purchase products.

You can never have too much time in fabric places. I liked this shop, good space for longarm machine and classes and a decent selection of fabric. I was oddly ignored when I came in and when I went to get my fabric cut. I heard and saw other people greeted and asked if they wanted their fabric cut. I stood for a while and then did one of those Yoohoo type deals. The woman was pleasant enough but it was strange to feel so invisible. It was fun to drop in on our way home but not worth a special trip. I did get some decent solids for an upcoming project and their solid selection was, well, solid!

The fact she didn't pick up the phone to say "hey sorry about that, it's going to be x number of days" would have helped. Went here on a Saturday afternoon, and I was told it was an hour to hour and a half wait. That was fine with me. I spent an hour in the area and then I called to ask how much more time is left (not to be impatient, but to see what things I could do while waiting) and I was told it would be another 45 minutes. I started doing something else, and 10 minutes later, I was told it was my turn... that was really unfortunate. When I got there, the staff was super nice and helpful! However, I noticed that I wasn't given all the info other customers were getting. They were told about things like the tools to make textures and what not, but I didn't hear about it until halfway through I was done glazing. I wish there better communication. A great spot though for a calming indoor activity.
