I was told to wait in a certain area for an employee to help me locate a specific lip balm. Unfortunately, no one came, so when I spotted Nas nearby, I asked him for help. Instead of simply looking up the product, he proceeded to explain to me that he "knows the layout of the store" and insisted there was no possible way I had purchased this lip balm at Sephora a month ago and that I must be mistaken. I specifically asked him to look it up on his device, and he didn't. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily argumentative and condescending over something as simple as helping a customer locate a product. My friend then pulled out her phone, looked it up herself within seconds, and confirmed that the product was showing as in stock at Green Hills. Nas then walked away saying "one second," and shortly afterward began yelling across the busy store, "I found it! I found it!" rather than coming back to us or asking us to follow him. The store was packed, and I could barely even see where he was. I literally had to locate him by following his yelling. Once I got to the product, the shade I wanted was not on the display. It may have been stored underneath in the locked cabinets, but by then Nas had disappeared and never returned to finish helping me. After spending so much time insisting that I was wrong and that he knew the store layout, there was also no acknowledgment or apology when it turned out the product was exactly here in the store I said it should be. I ultimately had to find another employee, who was able to help me locate the shade I wanted. I was dissatisfied enough with the interaction that I planned to speak with a manager, only to find out from another employee that Nas is apparently one of the managers. That made the experience even more disappointing because with the kind of attitude he had he should be far away from management or front facing customer service roles but maybe he's not always loud and wrong. Regardless, the condescending and mansplaining approach was completely unnecessary.

I was previously seeing a stylist/colorist at another organic salon in Nashville, but my past two or three visits I was never 100% satisfied. Didn't fully listen to what I was looking for, my little blonde she did give me turned brassy within a week and I did not like my look. I finally decided to try somewhere and someone new and happened upon MAE. I only go to organic salons with safer products so it popped up at the top of my Google search. After stalking their Instagram and their stylists Instagrams, I decided I wanted to make a consultation appointment with Mallory, which was so easy to do online. Within minutes I had a confirmation email of my appointment. The salon itself is gorgeous! Clean, sleek, stylish... you feel good being there. The consultation went great, I told her what my current frustrations were and what I was looking for as an end result. She was so easy to work with and assured me we could easily accomplish my hair goals. Fast forward about a month to my actual appointment. I walked out feeling so amazing, which is how someone should always feel walking out of a salon. She completely revitalized my hair, removing all brassy color and inserting bright lovely blonde in a cooler tone which I wanted all along. Looks natural and fresh. I pull up and don't see any cars (weird for a Saturday), I knock on the door and it is locked and there was no one inside. I check their Instagram and my calendar appointment invite from the business to confirm I was at the correct location, since I remember seeing that they had recently moved. I was at the correct address, in Berry Hill. I called. No one answered. I messaged on Instagram, still no reply several hours later. I understand if there was an emergency or something, but I know there is more than one staff member who works at the salon. SOMEONE could have at LEAST left a note on the door. It's BEYOND frustrating to have your time wasted like that. Also it's impossible to find a stylist with open evening or weekend bookings right now . So the search for another stylist BEGINS AGAIN

Owned and managed by a dynamic mother/daughter duo, this is family business where every customer, if the customer elects, is treated like family. (No adoption papers required) This salon was founded back in the era when ladies "had their hair done" every week, and the salon was the social hub for American women. I can remember going with my mother in the early 1970's to her hair salon, and all the conversations about children's ball games, music club, (mmmm... music club coffee cake!) and the goings on of the husbands and neighbors. It was a family, and those women back then, and the stylists of Coiffures today, really cared about their customes and what was happening in their lives. Feedback and opinions from the adjacent stylist stations were encouraged, and any problem could be solved in about the time to it took to get a set and style, drink a Diet Coke, and flip through a magazine. On my visit this weekend, they also had brownies with Andes mints out for customers - oh, my! The lead stylist at Coiffures did my hair and my bridesmaids' hair on my wedding day, and even though that was 20 years ago - I had a friend come across a photo from our wedding not long ago and comment on how lovely everyone looked. I was in the shop this weekend for a visit, (I llive more than 30 minutes away, so this is not my regular salon), and saw customers of every age demographic chatting with stylists of every demographic as well. It's nice to see older ladies still getting "gussied up" for a family function, and to see the younger girls getting the latest cuts and color streaks added - all under the same roof. The family tradition also continues in that the younger daughter-in-law of the manager is also now a stylist, so literally Coiffures offers three generations of hair stylists... you just don't see that every day, folks. You're also likely to see a cute 20 something shampoo girl (yes, they still have shampoo girls), sporting a glitter tattoo for Breast Cancer Month. On my visit this weekend they were beginning to get ready to be part of the first ever Donelson Art Crawl, shifting chairs around and placing art amongst the gleaming mirrored hair stations. In keeping with their "family" concept, the artists that the salon were featuring last night were all customers - and their watercolors, batiks, textile crafts, and jewelry were all cleverly displayed around the shop. It makes sense that a salon with such a long history would have a vast clientelle that could create such pieces on display. After chatting awhile, I realized the reason one customer finishing up looked familiar because she is a local news anchor. This isn't a place to drop names, but you get that folks "in the know" recognize the benefits of stylists with years of experience. And it says something to me, too, that the lead stylist/manager is approaching 60 years of age, (she may hate me for saying that), but is still progressive and forward-thinking enough to be part of the first Donelson Art Crawl. The staff here is clearly up to the latest and greatest when it comes to style and things that matter. In short, I know these people. And I would say to the yelper that experienced a problem last year - I know that if you were to have asked for a manager that visit, or called back the next day, they would have made it right. I'm enough of a yelper that I broought up their site with that person's admittedly bad experience - and the owners immediately knew who that stylist was, and reported she is no longer a part of their team. Even the best companies will from time to time have an employee that just doesn't work out, and I think it's our duty as customers to let folks know. Sure, yelp is one way to do that - but I know even with my regular stylist... from time to time, something about a cut just needs to be tweaked. So I would say regardless of where you are, if there's a problem with a service-based business, ask to talk to a manager and let them know what you're feeling. Yes, it's a little awkward, but in the long run you will walk away happy - and the business owner will be better prepared to succeed as well.
