The visit before that I was asked to come in early only to have to wait until PAST the original appointment time. If you are looking for an amazing salon that will help you with a total hair transformation, this is the place! I moved to Nashville in 2023 and began searching for a stylist. I tried several different places for the first year in my new town, but when I met Kaitlin, I knew she was it! For a few years prior, I had been toying with the idea of abandoning the dark brown hair that I had been dying for the past 30 years and going natural (yes, gray...or as I prefer to think of it-dark brown with a lot of silver highlights!). I wasn't sure about it because hair has always kind of been my thing. I didn't want to age myself more than necessary, but was getting tired of having to have my hair dyed every three weeks. Plus, I was beginning to think that I no longer could pull off such a dark color any longer. Every time I mentioned doing this to the many stylists I had gone to previously, they were very discouraging. However, when I floated the idea to Kaitlin, she said, "Oh my gosh, YES! You would look wonderful!" She was more excited than I was, truly! She instructed me to wait to come back to her for 8 weeks to let the natural color come shining through. On the big day, I settled in for a very long appointment. 125 or 126 foils later, I was looking a lot less dark brown and more grayish/light brown. I liked it a lot. Since that initial appointment, I have gone back for trims and toning. My hair has become a beautiful shade of silver as it has continued to grow out. That, along with the haircut by this supremely talented stylist have me looking and feeling great about my hair. It has been a little over a year now. I absolutely LOVE my new look, have much healthier hair, and am so happy that I visited Jon Alan Salon and was lucky enough to randomly be assigned to Kaitlin. If I could leave a negative I would. I'm fairly new to the area and eventually found this salon in Bellevue. I brought in a picture. (I lived in another state and have had the same haircut with great success). The hairdresser proceeded to show pictures of haircuts she preferred. I showed her more pictures but feared she wouldn't do well with the cut I wanted. I need the dead ends cut off of my hair and let her do her cut. My fault for not walking away.... I have never experienced a hairdresser as such(and I'm 52) I now have to wait a year for this cut to grow out. The worst salon ever! I booked an appointment for a specific hair color. I brought a picture of what I was looking for. On my first visit, I was informed it will take a few visits to get the desired results, so my hair does not get damaged. By the third visit, the stylist working on my hair moved out of state (he was good and did not bleach my hair to prevent hair damage); and another stylist performed the services. She bleached my hair and turned me into princess Ariel, my entire hair was bright red. The color was far away from what I requested. During the bleach phase, my hair from the bottom broke off, layers of my hair completely came off . I was horrified and didn't know what to say. The stylist was proud of her work and asked me if I can let her take pictures, I allowed it. When I went home, I couldn't take the hair color. I asked the salon to get my hair fixed or give me a refund. They said it was their policy to redo the hair. I said fine. On the fourth visit, another superior stylist did my hair. She turned my hair back to the color I came to the salon with, dark black with a hint of color. I was upset and asked to speak with the manager. I paid almost $700 dollars to the salon for hair color to end up with the color I already had plus the damage that they caused. They refunded only $262, but refused to refund the entire amount and for the time I spent there during four visits. I can't even begin to inform you about the damage my hair sustained there. My hair is brittle and falling off- they ruined my beautiful long hair. read more

I couldn't ask for a better place in Nashville to get my hair cut. Since moving here I had searched for a place with great service, fantastic stylists, and a welcoming vibe without breaking my bank. Seriously, its just hair, why must it be so expensive to cut? But I digress. I was recommended to this place by a roommate, who had me sold the moment she said "they start you out with a shoulder and scalp massage." Wait what? Are you kidding? And they touch up your makeup when you're done? And there's tea, coffee, water, all offered to you while oyu wait for your appointment (a wait which never takes very long)? Let's just say that I still drive my butt back to Bellevue whenever I need a haircut. I'm done searching. I've found my salon. Even when my girl left, they had another amazing one to take her place, and she has literally given me two perfect ahircuts in a row, one that included the addition of bangs (a big step for me, who really just doesn't like to mess with my hair). She was helpful, friendly, funny, all the things a stylist should be. And the cost is BEYOND reasonable. Seriously, for a haircut it runs me $35-$40. I love Aveda salons. They always seem unintimidatingly hip, clean, fun, and ooooh the wonderous scents! I had a gift certificate for Jon Alan that I won in a silent auction for a facial, haircut, and botanical hair treatment. Since the Bellevue salon is literally down the street from me (and come to find out, in a new, then-2-week old location), I made my appointment. I was never in the former location (across the street from the new location), but the staff mentioned the new place is larger. I unfortunately only snapped one picture and it was of the facial room, but the layout is very unique but functional. A large lobby area stocked full of the amazing Aveda products welcomes patrons upon entering...as do the perky front desk girls! The waiting area with minimal seating and a self-serve drink station (hot, cold, and wine) circles around the hair area, which is laid out in a circle with pull-down hair dryers above each station. To the far back is the hair washing area. On either side of the hair area are the rooms for facials, waxing, etc. Mandy, always pleasant on the phone & in person greeted me upon entering and introduced me to Jess, who was to do my facial. I was a facial virgin and she was very careful in explaining what would be happening to me during this 45/60min adventure, which included masks, hot towels, hand, shoulder, and scalp massages. Now, she's no masseuse, so I'm not grading her hard in this area, but the hand and shoulder massages were average (more of a rub down than a massaaaaage w/ pressure point focus) and the scalp massage actually kind of hurt - too much pressure on the top of mi cabeza - ay yi yi! I was a little disappointed that I couldn't completely relax due to the Rihanna playlist from the salon clearly being heard over the Sounds of The Woodlands music in the facial room. Overall, it was a good experience, the bed was really comfy, and Jess did a fine job. Next, I met with my hair stylist, whose name I'm totally blanking on right now, but will find out & update this review. I knew she was a "new talent" but I asked how long she'd been with Jon Alan and she said 1.5 years, which made me more comfortable. I showed her a print out that I always bring with me to haircuts to show the layers I crave and desire and we talked about what I wanted and which botanical treatment she was going to give me (strength or moisture). She seemed a little unsure of some answers and decisions, which made me a little nervous, but I let her do her thing. At the end of the cut, she said she didn't rinse my hair out enough and the botanical treatment was still in, needing to be rinsed out at home. I guess not a big deal, but it would be nice to not have to do that when I get home and my hair is supposed to be dry and done and not still feeling greasy. Before we finished, I also asked her to do more face framing, since I think she skipped that part, and she happily did. I'm not totally satisfied with the end result, but it's just hair, right? Also, I have to put this in here, just because it really did make a difference in my experience. I feel if you're in a profession where you are working VERY closely with other people, you need to make sure some things are tippy top...like hygiene. Not naming names, but it has to do with breath. I know that sort of thing can come and go and you may not even realize it went sour (literally), but in this type of setting, you've got to be on point! I moved to Nashville from Sumner Co. over a year ago. I've had ONE haircut since then and NO COLOR IN OVER 2 YEARS. I am very picky about who I go to because I have such fine thin hair. A couple of weeks ago I was at AT&T and saw Jon Alan Studio in the same mall. I walked in and made an appointment . Totally not like me but if you had seen my hair..... so bad I was tempted to shave my head. Today was the day. Alisha Burns was my stylist. She's amazing! She gave me a great color and cut. The best cut I've had in years. My hair looks much thicker, the color is great, and I did go for some of the Aveda products. ( I had been using cheap drugstore items that were drying my hair out and causing more damage. ) I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were - not just for the products, but for my cut and color. I made another appointment for 6 weeks from now. I finally found my stylist!! read more

Maybe I've never been to a real salon before, but I was so impressed by the service! There was a full consultation not just a what do you want kind of deal. She felt my hair and talked to me in detail about my cut and type of hair I have. Min lauded was a short, but sweet, neck and scalp massage with your choice of essential oils- I was impressed! After my very through shampoo we talked more about what she noticed about my hair. No hair shaming-just genuine info and tips and tricks. She listened to what I wanted and threw out the things I thought were achievable, but not reality. It was like she read my mind. Only negative thing I could spit out is that it can feel a little sales pitchy- with the tour of the salon and location of products- but that's ok because it's a large part of revenues so I get it. I rarely leave feeling happy with my haircut. I almost always think of something I wish had been done different. So this was so nice to leave feeling good about my hair and the money spent. read more

Men's Haircut... book Jessie Garton! Just returned from my appointment with Jessie, and had to rave about her!! I have been "seeing" Jessie for about a year now. (In full disclosure, my ex-wife was a stylist, and my ex-girlfriend owns a high-end boutique salon locally. I KNOW this business, and quality service.) I needed a haircut fast before a business trip, and Jon Alan Bellevue was right down the street, so I was a walk-in. Honestly, I didn't have high expectations for who I'd get in that scenario. They took me in, seated me, offered beverages (including wine and champagne I think!) I was paired up with Jessie, who happened to be available. Over the next 45 minutes, I was initiated into the Aveda Salon 'experience', beginning with the neck shoulder massage, then pre-cut wash with hot face towel. What I continue to be overwhelmed by is Jessie's complete attention to the most minute details. Most cut, blow off loose hair, quickly style, and send you out the door with a smile. Not Jessie. Cut, trim, thin out in the heavy growth areas to balance the more 'sparse' areas (right guys?), blow off, re-check, refining trim, shave the neck, trim the eyebrows, blow off, re-check, several more touch-ups. Back to the wash bowl for wash, condition, and scalp massage (what??!!!) Final dry, style, and re-check. Jessie makes sure I'm happy, and walks me out. At this point, I'm sure I'm not getting out of here for less than a C-note. I get to the very friendly coordinators who ask about my experience. "It will be $29.00 today Eric" she says. WHAT??!!! I looked around for cameras, thinking I'd been pranked! One year later, every appointment is the same complete service, attention to detail, and warm friendly care from everyone, but especially Jessie. This is my personal battle: Shame Vs. Acceptance I was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder named Syndrome X. A component of this disorder is Crown Balding and Facial Hair Growth. As a Female, this is not something you pray for. Growing up I never had a role model for 'primping and fixing' since my mother was the age of my peers' grandparents and my sisters were in college or grad school by the time I was 7 years old. I have battle Shame regarding my appearance most all of my life. When I started having hair growth to the point a beard could grow I shaved and shaved and shaved. I have felt less of a woman then came the balding. I have searched for a Sanctuary of sorts where I can go and 'be encouraged, pampered and accepted' - I found this at JonAlan Salon in Bellevue and Cool Springs TN. I have found the most amazing Aesthetics professional, Holly. She has such a passion for her work, it is as if each person is a Master piece for her. This week, I did not shave for 5 days in a row (I am off work) and finally yesterday she said I was ready for a wax. I won't say if didn't hurt however I will say that I don't have to shave. She explained to me that hair grows in cycles and her goal is to get the majority of it on the same cycle. She explained what may happen as a result as this was a shock to my body - she explained many things that no other aesthetics professional has ever done. I walked away with understanding of my body and skin as I have never known. I am encouraged and feel less ashamed. I am able to accept that I am not the only female that has this problem as she assured me. Regarding hair cuts and styles: As a younger person, again I had no one to teach me how to curl or style my hair. I just went with whatever occurred. Each time I have gone to JonAlan Salon, I have walked out feeling as if I am pretty or more attractive. There is the problem of my not knowing how to attend to my hair styles - however recently, I have been asking the girls there to show me how to duplicate what they do to my hair. I am still learning but am doing better. I am nearing 50 years of age, It is about time I accept myself!! Obviously, not a problem, she referred me to another stylist and she was great, too. My issue is both have since left. I've only heard through the grapevine as to why, but I think it says a lot about a business when it can't retain stylists that are really fantastic. Worst hair cut and worst customer experience. Do not go here and do not go to Ashley Rose Spicer. After specifically noting that I wanted my hair long for an upcoming event, she cut 8 inches off (when I asked for 2inches). I was left with an uneven cut with significantly shorter pieces in the back It's so bad that I'm embarrassed to wear my hair down. I even consulted another hair stylist who was shocked that my hair was left in that condition. Upon calling the salon back (within 15 minutes of my appointment) and sending pictures of my butchered hair, the front desk lady agreed how bad the cut was and I was told that they would refund my money. However, when I called back the following business day asking for my refund, they quickly changed their story and refused to refund my money. It seems their tactic of customer service is to be rude once they have your money. While they insisted I come back into the salon, I asked for an explanation of what could be done to fix my hair - they were unable to provide any solutions. I asked for to speak to the owner of the salon and was told that she had more important things to deal with. read more

Just visited the Salon. Before getting my eyebrows tinted I noticed the chairs seemed unclean and stained. I asked the "professional" if she would clean the chairs before I sat down. She said the stains were old and there was nothing to worry about. After leaving the salon I noticed there was a stain on my cashmere sweater. Unfortunately, The dry cleaners were not able to remove the stain. I visited the salon again and showed the the stained sweater and explained the situation. The front desk staff were EXTREMELY DISMISSIVE, and basically said there was nothing they could do. If you insist on going to this salon - make sure you wear clothes that you wouldn't mind having to throw in the trash and not a $300 sweater. read more

Gigi did a fantastic job on my hair -- seriously one of the best cuts I've ever had. She listened to what I wanted, explained a few things while working, and didn't force too much small talk. This was my first time at Jon Alan - didn't know that every hair cut starts with a head and shoulders massage. That's enough alone for me to be a repeat customer :) I'm not picky with my hair at all, I tend to go wherever is cheap and convenient, but this place/Gigi impressed me so much that I will absolutely be back! I had been a client of this salon for two years. Recently, my friend and I went into the salon and had cut, color, and highlights. She specifically told them that she wanted to keep her hair blonde but put in some highlights and lowlights, instead they changed her color to a very very dark blonde. She told them she did not like it and they did not care. They tried to convince her that she just needed to give it time. She ended up having to go to another salon two weeks later to have her hair corrected. I ask for my stylist ot give me long bangs (hair was all one length), she gave me some weird cut that looks like she only cut bangs on one side and left the rest long. Plus, she cut them really really short so there is no way to hide it. We both spoke to Jon the salon owner and she refused to correct the situation. She was rude and did not care that we were both unhappy with our services. My advice....if you use this salon and are unsatisfied with your service, do not pay because once you leave the salon they will not return your money. There salon is not worth the expense, especially when your stylists do not listen to what you tell them and do not provide the service you requested. read more

There has been a massive exodus from Jon Alan Bellevue with the opening of Sola salon in Belle Meade taking out virtually all their top rated/most experienced talent. Sherry and Dyer were first out the door, which left some great options, but with Dorothea and maybe more gone now, I don't even recognize anyone on the roster. My daughter's last hair cut was okay(ish) but the mood of this place is downright stressed out. Located in their new ultra modern digs by Red wine store on Highway 70, the place is beautiful, and I really hope they can bring back/up some talent, but it's not the same as it was and its pretty stressed. If I wanted to be stressed, I'd go to my in-laws. read more

There are several Jon Alan's in Nashville but I go to the one in Nipper's corner as it is close to my house. It is a pleasant experience... never have to wait, always offered a beverage(water, soda, wine?!)..hairstylist(s) are always very friendly. I use plural because I have never been super picky about my hair color and go to whoever fits my schedule but maybe I should be because some ARE better than others. There are reasons why some people are level 1 and others are 4. (haha). But, you get what you pay for the higher the number the higher the cost. Everything is Aveda which is weird for me because I'm used to Redken. Every appointment begins with a somewhat awkward massage and ends with them pushing you to buy their products. I've always been complacent but not loved my hair so..I'll give it a 3.5. read more

I got a very cute haircut at Jon Alan however the atmosphere could use a lot of work. I was never asked if I wanted aromatherapy and a massage but I got them. I HATE aromatherapy and masssages. The aromas from the other people were filling the air also and WOW you can't breathe in there. I also didn't like the sales pitch at the beginnning and then again at the end of my appointment. I understand but I really wanted to leave. So if the haircut could be done in the fresh air with no one rubbing on me without permission I would go back again. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Jon Alan for about a year and a half. For an Aveda salon, the prices are very reasonable. I was used to paying around $75 for a haircut, but here I pay around $40-50. I also use their online reservation system, which is so convenient for me, as I often don't know my schedule 8 weeks out. They are very friendly and laid-back, much nicer than the strip mall locale would have you believe. read more

I have had two poor experiences at this salon, particularly relating to my long, thick, curly hair. Two different stylists behaved very unprofessionally regarding the thickness and texture of my hair and did not seem to know how to properly care for and cut thick, curly hair. After my request to have my hair washed and conditioned, then combed out (rather than brushed out first) one stylist was extremely rude to me for the rest of my time in the salon, including telling me she had no idea how she would be able to deal with my hair, telling me she could not recline my seat for hair washing because of my hair's length/thickness, and not speaking to me for the duration of the haircut. The other stylist sat me in the chair, then said she was going to call her next client to tell them they might as well not come because she had no idea how long cutting my hair would take. I had asked for a trim/thinning and no styling (since I prefer to let my curls airdry). She also made suggestions to me during the rest of the haircut regarding things I could do to "fix" the texture of my hair, ranging from conditioning and straightening treatments to silk pillows, etc. This salon is DEFINITELY in need of some diversity training and should be able to offer basic cuts to those with hair of varying lengths, textures, and thicknesses. There is no need to shame someone just because their hair is different from that of most of your clientele/stylists. I can't recommend this salon to anyone with curly hair. read more

Had great cuts, but she cut her hours back and I could no longer book with her, probably because I don't bleach and extra stuff generating a lot of money, I have great hair and don't need to. . So she passed me off to someone else, Desiree, and I had the worst haircut of my life-- I could have gotten the same thing at a walk-in cheap place, chopped up and stringy! I'm so glad hair grows back! This all took place before my vacation. From here, going to look around Nashville and talk to people with really great cuts and zero in on the highly skilled male stylists! I can tell they really up-sell in this salon too.
