I come to Sally to purchase hair and beauty products. The store is always well stocked and carries various lines of products. It's opened to the public, but if you are a licensed cosmetologist, you can apply for a Sally Card, which is free when you present your license and it qualifies you for professional-only discounts, which they send out in mailings along with discount coupons on occasion. The staff ambiance here is so-so, sometimes they are helpful and pleasant and at other times they may be moody and act as if you have a problem if you ask for their assistance. Just a warning. All in all, they have the products l want and cheaper than those "beauty supply stores" that are located all over, which only give you, at the most, a 10% discount when you present your cosmetology license and ID. I'd rather shop at Sally, where l can return my product with little hassle (as long as l have a receipt) and not have to worry about purchasing something in those other stores with a "no refund" policy. read more

One star because it exists and has products I use. I wondered why I could not find this on yelp but according to the other 'glowing' review, it is currently situated on Baltimore National Pike in the 40 West Plaza. I have visited this location for my third and FINAL time, this past Saturday. On the first visit, the staff person was helpful but I was in there for about 20 minutes longer than I needed to be, due to their problematic cash register/computer system. The second time, the staff person was slightly rude. On the third and final visit, the staff person, a young woman, was beyond rude to the customer in front of me. Attitude, with full facial expressions and nasty tone, on full blast. And then when I am finally assisted by someone who apparently was getting off soon and did not want to assist with the line, the machines are only taking cash. I have not decided if I will go out of the way to the Elicott City location or just pay more across the street at Beauty 4 U, which as I said is more expensive but offers any product you could possibly think of and kind, helpful staff persons. Have only been here twice but never had any issues. Had what I was looking for both times and the associates were friendly and spoke. Only issue I had was I heard an associate curse loudly Im assuming because she thought no one was in the store. read more

I have often patronized this location because there are not many Sally's near my home and I often travel to Baltimore to visit the fresh produce markets, so this isn't terribly out of the way. However, the lack of professionalism and common courtesy will make today my LAST and FINAL time!! I called and politely asked if there were any "affordable head bonnet dryers"; the young black woman that answered said, "Yeeeeeeesssss!" *just like that*, so I asked if she knew the range of the prices, as I was home today and not in Baltimore, so I wanted to inquire before I drove all the way there for nothing, she then said, " (long sigh) I surely don't (another long sigh)*....So I asked what was her name, she said, "why does my name matter?...what does it have to do with the price of a dryer?...(long sigh and raising her voice)" She knew she had been rude, so she refused to give me her name...I needed a dryer, so I said, "never mind, I am on my way to your location.." I was really on my way, but my spirit told me that it may turn left quickly, so I turned my car around and called the Laurel, MD store, where the young lady there was nothing but kind and genuinely helpful. I swear I dislike writing these type of reviews, but the woman in the Catonsville location is clearly emotionally disturbed and unbalanced, as I have read in a few other reviews regarding this location. I bought a gel nail system at another Sallys location, dropped well over $100, between the light and polishes. I went to that store with a dilemma of gummy nails. The ladies were very helpful and tried to get to the bottom of the issue, which was no top coat. Got the top coat and was grateful for their help. read more

Sallys Beauty Supply on Route 40 in Catonsville, MD; I have been a loyal shopper of this store since way back when they moved from Route 40 and Rolling Rd. Let me just say this, I WILL NEVER patronize this establishment EVER AGAIN. I just went into the store to purchase a few needed items with my 11 year old SON in tow. While in the store, my son began walking around looking at the brushes and other various items. My son moves quickly as he is always very hyper due to his diagnosis. There was no one in the store but my son, the two junkie-looking associates and myself. My son came into the store eating Tic-Tacs and kept taking them in and out of his pocket. All of a sudden one of the ladies ran over to him and said something, I just couldn't really hear her but I saw my son show her his pockets. She walked fast to the front of the store. I followed and asked what the hell was that about? The junkie ass associate tells me "oh it's nothing". How the hell was it nothing. So the other associate says "she thought he put the polish in his pocket". You mean to tell me that you thought my ELEVEN YEAR OLD SON was stealing polish? My son doesn't wear polish, his mom does, however Sally's doesn't sell the brands of polish that I wear and I would NEVER need to have my son steal nail polish. I can purchase any item I want from Sally's 10 times over. Once this occurred, I placed my items on the counter, my total was less than $20. I placed a 20 on the counter and walked out and will never return. Shame on you. They only got 1 star because I had to give one in order to post this review. read more

This location has moved to off of 40. AVOID it if you can. I always tell myself not to go - but then I'll need something and find myself there. The staff is unhelpful and often rude. Don't go, just don't. read more
