It was the absolute worst experience ever. Janine (masseuse) was either extremely tired or under the influence of something because she kept nodding the entire time. My massage was for 90 minutes, I asked her to concentrate on certain areas but she seemed to gravitate to my upper back which was not needed. I explained that my main reason for coming was for my lower back pain and she did not focus on that area. The space was a lil suspicious looking, very vacant and empty looking. The massage room was not cozy nor relaxing, lights were not dim, no aromatherapy, no plug ins, no soothing music. My experience here was not great. This "spa" is located in an obscure area and I had to be let into the locked building. The massage therapist, Janine, who is also the owner was very curt to me when letting me in. She just walked away and I followed her to a desk area where she handed me a form to fill out. Nothing friendly about her. Once she directed me to a room to undress, which took me only a minute, I was lying on the bed for almost 8 mins before she came in. I had paid for an hour long massage with reflexology but looking at the clock, by the time she was done, it had only been about 48 mins. The room is not the most comfortable as I've enjoyed more dimly lit places where you can enjoy the relaxing massage - this room was full of sunlight. No calming music played and the loud humming of the AC was distracting. While massaging my neck, I kept feeling Janine's jagged nails digging into my skin making it quite uncomfortable. I've had way better massages while this was barely mediocre to me. Not a great place or massage therapist from what I experienced and I don't ever plan on coming here again. read more

I very much enjoyed my experience at Spa Central today. Finding the entrance was a bit of a hiccup for me since the first one I walked up to was under construction. But I found the right way in. I suggest other clients walk to the parking lot with the Spa Central sign and arrow if you are on 30th and wondering where the entrance is. My massage experience was top level! I have had about 10 massages in my lifetime, so I have a base to compare with. I appreciated that the room was clean, relaxing, and the perfect temperature. My massuer, Christian had excellent communication skills. I felt that he expertly massaged away the pain that brought me in while continuously checking in on my comfort. My massage therapist Omnia was WONDERFUL, 5 stars. The space itself was 1.5 stars. Pros and cons of the practice below. Cons: This place really needs some updates. First, I was locked out of the building and needed to call the desk. There was no person at the desk, so I waited trusting someone would greet me. Eventually, I was greeted by a man who asked me to wait in one of the hallway chairs. The AC unit was very loud, detracting from the ambiance of the room. It would have been nice to be offered filtered water, rather than resorting to a '80s lukewarm water fountain. Pros: The two people I met were wonderful. The man who greeted me was nice, although slightly confusing as he came out of a basement door and I saw far too much chest hair. My massage therapist, Omnia, was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend booking with her for at least a 75 minute session, if not more. She focused on everything, with more attention to the areas I indicated were in pain. The facility is not a spa. The pictures online don't match. Nothing about it resembled spa and relaxation. It's an outdated building. My husband and i called to schedule a couples massage. I had to wait for someone to unlock the door after i rang the doorbell and called. When we got there we were told that the director, Janine, could do us back to back bc whoever made our appointment was new and they didn't have 2 technicians. She ended up calling one of the instructors to assist. The room was too bright, the carpet on the floor was old and dingy, and the bedding was old and mismatched. I couldn't enjoy the massage if I tried. It was not relaxing. I've had better at a massage school. Definitely not worth your time or money! read more

I felt comfortable because the tech assigned to me (Drew) was very knowledgeable about the specific type of massage that I needed. I spent a lot of money on liposuction and I would not have let him touch me if I thought he wasnt experienced. The Lymphatic massage was very relaxing and also therapeutic. I've been to spas in Atlantic City, Salamander resort in VA, Deep Creek, Red Door etc so if your looking for a fancy place this isn't it but they are 100 percent professional and definitely get the job done in a clean, safe environment. Masseuse listened carefully to my requests, description of pain, areas of pain and precisely identified affected areas. She worked in a focused manner that effectively tarted my source of pain. While the pain is still there, it is much lower in scale than prior to coming in. And after the session, my masseuse provided follow-up home exercises I can do to continue working through muscle relaxation. read more

If I was writing this review for massages from Janine from Spa Central I would give 5 stars. I've had several excellent massages from her, including a fertility massage that worked. Unfortunately this review is for my prenatal massage from Jennifer. If I wouldn't have had such good massages from Janine and had only had Jennifer there I would give one star. I booked this massage as I had been having a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders. I had wanted to book with Janine but she was not available so I booked with Jennifer instead. As a former massage therapist I have given many prenatal massages and standard practice for these is to have the client lie on their left side, unless you have a special table with a belly cut out. So you can imagine my surprise when I arrived for my prenatal massage with Jennifer and was instructed to lay face down (no special prenatal table). I was not even offered an additional support. It was extremely uncomfortable to lie on my belly and breasts and I did ask her if I could lay on my side. When I asked to lay on my side she still tried to get me to lay on my stomach and only offered a pillow to try under my breasts but I insisted in laying on my side. After she finished working on my back and neck, she did a little bit of my top leg and then asked me to turn on my back. She did put a flat pillow under my knees but again it was not enough support and I was again uncomfortable. As she worked on my legs, especially my lower legs, she kept using downward strokes. The reason this is an issue is pregnant women tend to experience lower extremity swelling and she was pushing the fluid back into my ankles and feet instead of moving it up towards my heart. Another big no in the massage community. After my massage my right shoulder was hurting worse than it had before I got the massage and I didn't feel any relief anywhere else. This was probably the worse massage I've ever had. It was uncomfortable and felt like it was done by someone who had no experience. I would be still willing to visit Spa Central for massages but only from Janine. I would never get another massage from Jennifer. read more

Janine was my masseuse and she was very knowledgeable, proffesional and adept at giving massages. I called holistic massage to make an appointment and someone from spa central called me back to book. I wanted a graduate level class but no one was available. The woman I talked to did not make it clear that graduate level classes were not available so I showed up and had to pay for the professional massage. I wouldn't have gone in for the higher price but since I was already there I went for it. Thé massage was not terrible but the man who gave it to me did not ask about boundaries or comfort level beforehand. I don't get many massages but I checked online what is normal afterwards and it seems like a general rule for therapist to ask new clients what they are comfortable with (in the past I have had that Convo before). First problem was He rubbed the top of my breasts. I had to put my hands over them so he wouldn't go farther (I do not know if he would have gone all the way over them but he kept creeping down until I felt the need to place my hand). He did not acknowledge the fact that I moved my hands to stop him and did not ask if I was comfortable with his hand placement. When he massaged my legs he did a quick movement all the way to the top to where the leg meets the pelvic bone several times. Admittedly it did not seem sexual, he did not linger and he did not touch my genitals but I was I uncomfortable with how he went literally all the way up leg until he touched my underwear without any warning. I do not think it is normal to rub the underwear line. Additionally when he massaged my leg he exposed my underwear and but multiple times. It was unnecessary and I have not had that happen in past massages. When he rubbed my back he pulled the sheet maybe half way down my but and he started to pull my underwear too. I know that in full body massages the buttocks is often massages but he did not ask before moving my underwear. I pulled the sheet to where I comfortable (where my back and but meet). At one point he said he wanted to do hip stretches but did not explain that I would be exposed. He flipped me over and luckily I was not wearing a thong but I was exposed much more than I would have liked. I didn't feel comfortable stopping and chose to do the other side but during the stretch he did a rocking motion several times until my underwear were ridding up my but and then he grabbed my but instead of my hip. At that point I said to stop. His demeanor was not sexual at any point but it was not professional. I called spa central to give my feedback and it did not seem like the woman I spoke to took my claims very seriously. I haven't been before and I will not be going back but it does seem that they have a larger staff pool so you may not have the same experience. read more

So, in response to your message, Janine, this is what I have to say. First of all, you can clearly see in my review that I stated the time that I called your location the next day (after my travels). I called at nearly 1pm your time - NOT in the morning as you suggested. There was plenty of time for you to contact me when you first arrived if you really cared about customer service. Secondly, you're inferring yet again that there was something potentially wrong with me (healthwise) by stating that my intake form didn't indicate anything. Well, I have EXCELLENT health so there is nothing to indicate. I get massages at least five times per month and I've NEVER had an experience like this one. The fact that you even question my tipping policies (which are standard across the board AND took place the day of the service prior to the blisters that formed) is absurd to me. I tipped because - at the time - I was thoroughly satisfied. When the blisters came and I had the negative experience in your tone and response via phone - even after I indicated that your therapist had very offensive breath odor - you acted like I told you the sky was blue. If I need to instruct you on how to have customer service, then perhaps you don't need a business where you're working directly with the public. Figure out what impression you want to leave with your patrons and apply THAT as a hallmark of your customer experience. Don't look for someone to tell you how to provide customer care! read more

Initially Janine was planning to come, but because I was asking for a specific weekend day, she arranged for Ed Holloway to come to us instead. Ed was terrific and very patient while demonstrating proper techniques. Obviously a one-hour session doesn't come close to the experience and expertise of a massage school degree, but we both feel that we learned a great deal.
