Never shopping here again. Poor customer service for making a return for an item that I did not use. I was told that I could return any product that I was not satisfied with. I came the next day to return merchandise that was not used and was told by the same salesperson that they could only give me a gift card. I called corporate and they told me that they could give me a refund but since I already accepted a gift card my money couldn't be returned. Now I'm just stuck with a gift card. This is the best Sally Beauty ever. Been shopping at them since I was teen in Columbus, Ohio. I am now pushing 60. Been to many many Sally Beauty stores all over San Diego with sometimes very good experiences and others, not so much. I recently moved into this area and went to this store in La Mesa. OMG. I could not have asked for better help! The store was big and clean. Two ladies working there and so very helpful. And best upon best they ACTUALLY knew what they were talking about. Not the typical CA attitude (been here since 1987 so I know it well) of I don't care what you do or who you are, and let me get back on my phone. These ladies both deserve raises. They were awesome. This particularly Sally's store is located next to Panda express and Vons. It's located in a large strip mall with plenty of parking. Parking is mediocre at this location. The product assortment is average, this location is a little smaller than other store (in my opinion). However, they offer anarray of hair as well as nail care merchandise. Brand products are always on sale at Sally's. Unfortunately, this location does not have a large African American product selection. Products are constantly in stock at this location. Additionally, the aisle are clean, organized and free of debris. Signage is visible, clear and accurate. Sally's always has outstanding deals and savings. Make sure to purchase your Sally's discount card. It's a brilliant investment since it offers additional savings with each purchase. read more

I went in to this store to get a clipper that was better quality than big box stores - I asked the associate which clipper would be good for lining up my sons hair - she didn't know so asked someone in the back - then came back with one and said this is what you want. So I bought it trusting they know. I use it once it's the same as a cheap one from Walmart. And they won't take it back... Will not go back and will tell others they shouldn't either. read more

This Sally's location is not a good one. The employees are not professional or helpful. My first visit both employees were talking to a couple about politics and saying very inappropriate things surrounding the topic. I was so uncomfortable I left. Second attempt.. I walk in and she doesn't say anything to me or offer any assistance. I finally find what I need and I go to the counter and stand there while both employees are distracted with other things on the computer. They bother to say anything to me about when they plan on assisting me with my purchase. Giant letters say "curbside available" so I ordered, drove to the curbside. They refused to give me my order, saying I had to go INSIDE the store. I said I ordered "curbside" and I was literally at the curb. They were very taxed to come up with a solution, zero critical thinking skills to figure out a way to provide customer service. They were rude. I'm literally at the curb, pointing to the sign "curb" and they said "no you have to come inside" - mind boggling. I guess you get the employee you pay for. read more

This is the Sally's closest to me so it is the one I tend to go in whenever I need something hair related like a new brush or even some make-up. They have little tiny sizes of nail polish and glitter for a dollar each so you can afford to get a variety of colors. I am a little disappointed that they don't carry the style of hairbrush I am used to so I'm glad I bought about 4 of them awhile back. read more

I went to Sally's today and was very impressed with their customer service. I purposely signed up for the email adds to save tree's and not have their specials mailed to me in paper form. I have gone to other companies with a digital email coupon and they would not honor it unless it was printed which I never understood when I have the coupon/discount code that could be entered into their data base. Sally's will actually honor their digital coupons without you printing them prior to going to their establishment. I went in today to buy some hair color that was advertised as BOGO on a flyer I received in the mail. The sale indicated that it is from Jan 24-30. When I got to the store there were only two bottles on the shelf so an attendant offered to get me more bottles from the back. She told the manager(Alex) that was in the back storage area that I was buying with the coupon (buy one, get one) I overheard the manager telling the lady helping me that she didn't want to honor the coupon for more then one bottle. At that point I spoke directly to the manager. First she tried saying the coupon was an error and a misprint. When she saw I was not buying that excuse/lie she said "well I'm only willing to honor one bottle for the BOGO special" Who is she to over step the companie's policies and promotions?! The coupon clearly does NOT indicate quantity limitations. I have never heard of this kind of business practice! What happened to CUSTOMER SERVICE?!?!?! This is the second poor experience I have had at this particular location. I don't recommend shopping at this particular store. read more

I went to the La Mesa location. There was one older lady who was kind and accommodating and that's the only reason for the second star. However, there was another lady who has horrible customer service. I just needed some advice on what products to use on my hair to go blonde. The older lady didn't have an answer so she referred to the rude lady. This woman looked at me and talked to me as though I had made an irreversible mistake and that I was wasting her time by even asking my questions. Her tone and her expression were quite nasty and she was condescending. She wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say about my current hair condition. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in a retail establishment! A young woman, who clearly hated her job, people, her life, the world, "helped" me. When I described the type of hair product I wanted, she rudely replied, "I have no idea what you want!" I described it two more times. Now, she even more obnoxiously let me know she had no idea what I was talking about. REALLY?! It is her job to know which products do what and to share that information freely when asked. She stood too close to me in a very defensive posture as I said, "OK, I'll just look for it myself." She just stood there glaring at me! I felt SO MUCH NEGATIVE ENERGY from this young woman that I began to feel SICK TO MY STOMACH. I am not exxagerating! She finally walked away and I was relieved! Then, when it was my turn to checkout, unfortunately I got her. (I was praying I'd get the other older female employee, who seemed less hostile. ) I was afraid (again, NOT exxagerating) to inquire about gel nail polish, but it was not accessible to clients without employee assistance. Before I got a complete sentence out, she cut me off, aggressively asking, "do you have the heater?!" I didn't know what that meant and was too afraid to ask! I left that store feeling HORRIBLE! I felt attacked - victimized! Strong words! I truly felt like is been punched in the stomach. The energy in that store is unwelcoming to say the least - and DARK and HOSTILE to put it bluntly. I felt off balance for two days after my visit. This nasty experience clearly bothered me enough to still be thinking about it. I will NEVER step inside that store again! AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! Though this store was clean and had what I was looking for, the customer service was ridiculous! I came in to purchase blue hair dye. I walked in with 3 children. When I asked where I could find it the girl raised her eye brows and asked if it was for me. Um....yes. Trying to make the situation light hearted I said "No, it's for him" and pointed to my bald 10 month old. She did not laugh, or even crack a smile. She just stared at me!!!! Small but cool They pretty much have any and every hair care product in stock. On some Sundays you can catch very good discounts, I bought shampoo for $9 that's usually $30. I know right, I was dancing all the way to the counter w/joy. The ladies working know about all products making it very helpful for me during times when my g/f sends me in there to pick out hair care like I really know the difference of any of it. I even saw a do it yourself earring hole puncher thingy, not sure if it's sanitary to pierce your own ears but for $ 10 I'd be willing to try. read more

This is a rating only based on Customer Service. The La Mesa location has untrained employees in human interaction in the professional/business world. This is not the first time I have dealt with rude employees there. One instance when I came in to return/exchange a product that was obviously damaged before I purchased it, I was accused of damaging the product. I have money to purchase another one if I did, myself, damage the product. My integrity is not worth $10. It seemed to me she was a manager, the other employees were asking her questions... Another instance I was waiting at the register and the manager was busy smacking her gum while another employee was talking about going to Mexico to get drinks and clubbing. I would rather go to another store or pay extra for online shipping than to have to set foot in that store again. I will go out of my way to go to another Sally's than deal with the employees at the La Mesa location. Im sorry but there are other trained professionals looking for a job who would be more than happy to serve customers and appreciate their job. One star for having what I need. The customer service here is horrrrrrible. I was hoping to identify certain employees, but alas, there were no names on my receipts. The ladies here were very kind and helpful, especially Maria. She knew the products and gave me good recommendations on what I needed. I would have been lost without her help. She was not pushy at all. I took my time to roam around, browse, and decide. She was also understanding and patient when she saw that I had my two year old daughter with me. This store was small but it had a good selection of beauty and hair products. I thought I would spend a lot here but they have some great deals. Great inventory and pretty good prices. Their 'buy 2 get one free' sales run fairly frequently. Customer service is 'hit or miss' . . . depends on who is helping you. If you ask a question someone will assist you. They rarely ask, "Can I help you with anything?" You usually need to approach the clerk if you need help finding the right product. Some clerks are more enthusiastic about helping customers than others are. For those DYING THEIR OWN HAIR, this place has TONS of money saving hair dyes that allow you to do it yourself at home. They always seem to have what I need at a really reasonable price, however, this being a store mostly for professionals, it can be hard to find exactly what I need and how to use certain products. LOOK ONLINE FIRST. Their website gives directions for products and is very useful. The women working, not so useful. As I stood in line, the woman ahead of me was asking what deep conditioner is the best. The worker repeated "all of them are good" or "it depends on what you're looking for" that is about all the help she offered the poor woman who obviously just needed a .little hair care advice.
