As soon as my cousin and I walked in, we were greeted politely by the employees at the front. However, once we made our way into the store, the experience completely changed. A blonde, white woman who appeared to be a manager (this was around 4:30-5:00 p.m.) repeatedly stared at us as we walked through different aisles. At one point, I stopped to smell a body mist. I looked up and noticed two employees watching my cousin and me. When I made eye contact, they continued to watch us. I then noticed another employee on the other side of the aisle, stocking merchandise while also keeping an eye on us. Altogether, there were three employees two Black women and one white woman who seemed to be monitoring us throughout our visit. To make matters worse, we were asked if we needed help every few minutes. While I understand that customer service is part of the job, the constant attention, combined with being watched throughout the store, made it feel like we were being profiled rather than assisted. I am not a thief. I am a paying customer who came in to shop like everyone else. Being made to feel suspicious simply for browsing was disrespectful and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this experience confirmed why I had not returned to this location in two years. I will not be shopping at this Ulta again, and based on this experience, I have no interest in visiting any Ulta location in the future. She told me that since it's the last one and it's on the mannequin that it would be an additional 25% off. She wrote this on the wig package and took it to the cashier. The manager would not honor the discount and stated that the young lady was wrong. She explained to him that that's how it's always done with wigs that are sold off the mannequins head. The guy refused to budge on the discount and stated that if I do this YALL will come back and keep asking for discounts. I asked him what did he mean by YALL? He didn't respond. Nonetheless I did not buy the wig because of the unprofessionalism of the manager and the fact that he said the term YALL to a woman of color was very concerning to me.
