That should've been confirmed over the phone when I made the appointment. If you know you have multiple locations, you should say that so people don't get confused. I scheduled to get a hair dye, and even I know dye jobs usually aren't done super late in the day, but I specifically talked about it during the call. I explained exactly what I wanted and even asked about different options. If dye services aren't something you do later in the day, that should've been made clear when I booked. So I leave work early, deal with traffic, and show up to the Eastern Ave location -- only to be told I'm at the wrong place. I was upset. How was I supposed to know? That's the only location I've ever been to. I've never dyed my hair with them before either. The lady there called the other salon and told them I was coming, and I could hear the person on the phone saying just to get there quickly. I'm not even from this area, so I'm trying to figure out if the address she gave me is right. I tell her it says it's 30+ minutes away -- am I going to get there and still be seen? She says yes, they'll wait. So I drive all the way over there -- wasting gas, time, and having already left work early -- just for them to tell me they're closed. I asked who she spoke to. I asked why they didn't just tell me not to come instead of having me drive all the way there for no reason. I had an event I needed my hair done for, and now I'm being told no, they're not going to do anything? I called the original lady back and told her they said no. She puts me on hold for more than 10 minutes, so I hung up. She later calls back and offers for me to come in the next day, but honestly... this isn't how you treat people. If they don't take anyone after a certain hour, why tell me to come knowing I wouldn't make it in time? I clearly asked, "Are you sure?" multiple times. I don't like wasting my time, gas, or energy. Honestly, I felt like the way I was treated was racially motivated. I've felt this before at certain predominantly Hispanic salons -- they'll take our money, but they don't have the professionalism to treat Black clients with respect. The way they spoke to me was rude and dismissive, and it was nothing like the first time I'd gone to the Eastern Ave location. I won't be going back. The customer service is terrible, they don't confirm appointments properly, and they'll tell you yes just to get you off the phone. Beware before wasting your time.

Ashley was wonderful from start to finish. She explained every product she used, what she was doing throughout the appointment, and gave me realistic guidance on how to maintain my curls at home. I never felt rushed, but I also appreciated that the appointment was efficient. I was in and out in about an hour and 45 minutes. The whole experience felt relaxing and thoughtful. Two shampoos, a head massage, great conversation, beautiful salon atmosphere. I genuinely felt taken care of. As someone with alopecia who doesn't go to salons often, trusting someone with my hair felt significant, and Ashley made me feel comfortable the entire time. I drove from Washington, DC and would absolutely do it again. I even bought products afterward because for the first time in a long time, my hair felt manageable and healthy in a way I could actually maintain myself. That is not what I received. I arrived with long, full, healthy hair that I had spent years growing and caring for. My hair was mid back length, and I communicated clearly that my priority was improving the shape while preserving as much length as possible. I did not request a dramatic cut. There was no thorough consultation. Yasmine hardly spoke to me throughout my appointment. She asked a few questions at the outset. There was no education component aside from attempting to sell me products at the conclusion of the service. Despite my very clear request to maintain my length, a significant amount of length was removed, far beyond what was discussed or was necessary to improve the shape of my hair. That loss is permanent. It will take years for my hair to fully recover, and there is nothing that can be done in a follow-up appointment to restore what was taken. Beyond the length loss, the cut itself lacked cohesion. It did not account for the different shrinkage rates across my curl patterns, which range from approximately 3C to 4B, and as a result the shape dried unevenly in an angular helmet shape with blunt awkward bangs, rather than nicely framing my face. The styling portion of the service further obscured the cut. Extremely heavy product was used, weighing my hair down and masking the actual shape. I was not given meaningful education or instruction on how to achieve my desired style at home, despite this being a central component of what differentiates a Curl Discovery Cut from a standard haircut. I left without clarity on how to properly style my own hair and with a result that looked nothing like what I had requested. In addition, the handling of my hair during the service was uncomfortably rough. In the days following my appointment, I experienced ongoing breakage that I had not been dealing with prior. After the appointment, I attempted to resolve the situation in good faith. The only option offered was an in-person assessment and potential adjustment under the salon's service guarantee. No refund, partial or otherwise, was considered. Given the extent of the length already removed, the lack of trust created by the initial experience, and the fact that additional cutting could not undo the damage, returning to the same chair did not feel like a meaningful or safe remedy. If they were genuinely sorry for what happened and the aspects of the service that were not delivered, they would offer a meaningful remedy, not a requirement to put my hair back into the same hands that already damaged it. After my experience, I read additional reviews and noticed a consistent pattern. Multiple clients describe receiving little to no actual consultation or education as part of the Curl Discovery Cut, despite that being a core part of how the service is marketed. Others note difficulty working with looser or mixed curl patterns, overly heavy styling that obscures the cut, failure to account for shrinkage, rough handling during detangling, and breakage following their visit. When concerns are raised, responses from ownership frequently rely on the service guarantee policy rather than acknowledging gaps in execution or offering a proportionate resolution.
