Went in for knotless braids -- this took longer than I anticipated, but probably my impatience. Upon entering I was immediately sat with a braider. We discussed length, matched my hair color and got started. Considering the time sitting, better chairs would be a good investment. They did an excellent job given those two issues. So many braid shops claim to specialize in short hair but when u get there it's another story. Hair was included with my box braids. I have been twice to 'Sally's Hair Braiding' to get straight back cornrows, and both experiences were not good. Both times I went, I had to stop the hair braider while they were cornrowing my hair because the straight back cornrows were crooked; not straight at all. Both times, the hair braider had to take out 5-6 cornrows to straighten them properly after I noticed how crooked they were. I do not recommend this hair braiding salon at all. The owner Sally is extremely nice, professional, and braids hair well. Sally is great. The first time I went, Sally took over and cornrowed my hair to make sure it was done properly. The second time I went, Sally was not there and the young lady whom braided my hair was horrible at her job. Do not get your hair braided here at all. It's not worth it. read more

A shop that does not care about the finished hairstyle. I had braids put in and they looked awful. They were too tight. My scalp was sore and swollen in certain areas. To go to sleep I had to take Motrin pm and loosen all the painful areas that were pulling. I could not go out without a scarf or hat because it looked so bad and I was embarrassed. 4 days of discomfort and I finally cut off the extra hair but I am having difficulty because she used glue and I am trying to get it out without having to cut my hair. The owner is aware but she doesn't care. She has my $140 and I have a sore scalp. I would never recommend this shop. I wish I had read all of the terrible reviews before going to Sally's but I went to this place on a recommendation from someone who I trust. My costly mistake. I've been to Sally's braiding a few times and don't ask me why I keep going back! First of all the owner Sally is greedy for money, I paid $200 for medium box braids and when the stylist was done, my hair looked like I had stepped into 1980!! Remember the knots in the front-the Casmas braids with tight knots???? Well that's what it looked like Not to mention the next day my hairline turned flaky and white and has been itchy and bleeding ever since, i'm literally at work with a bleeding hairline not sure if it was a dirty comb, the type of gel used or the fact that the braids were too tight I told the stylist they were too tight and she refused to fix them I'm such a fool -I went back a week later to show Sally the owner that my scalp was ruined but instead she was in the back and never showed her face the lady who was actually in the front said Sally said I could do the front over for $45 When I questioned why I would paying for something I did not cause -Sally NEVER ONCE SHOWED HER FACE TO EXPLAIN TO ME I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO Sally's Hair braiding I don't blame any of the stylists, they seem sweet but unfortunately they have to listen to her since she is the owner my hairline is itchy, dry, flaky and bloody I am pissed never had this issue ever! read more

I would give one star but my hair for the most part can be worked with. I'm going to get the front redone somewhere else. Pros- will accommodate you pretty quick but that's all I can really say. Cons- I think in general this culture just doesn't really care about customer service. The only reason I knew the names of my braiders is because of the constant conversation in the shop. For the amount of $ black female Americans spend in there, I would think I would get at least an introduction as opposed to a "hello, what you getting, sit over there". The owner who I believe is named Sally is very rough, not personable and VERY hard on your hair. If you have fine hair or hair that needs extra attention, she is NOT the one to go to. Her and only a couple of braiders start on your hair and they let their teenage assistants finish.... They braid extremely tight and again, very rough. They were also rushing on my head because walk ins came in and they want that $$$... I now notice a couple of fine hairs that were left out. They speak French the entire time and assume none of us know what they are talking about which I find very rude. I find this with every African shop and again, they typically do not value customer service but will value that $200/head. I will not be going back and would not refer anyone to this place of business. My go to for box braids and individual braids. I've always went after work in the evenings 5/6 and always been put in a chair quickly. They braid fast! My box braids take no more than 5 hours. I come out satisfied with my braids from Sally's. I've recommended my sister and friends and they almost had pleasant experiences. read more

I went to Sally's for years to get my hair braided, but I will no longer return. I'm growing out my short hair and the last two times I got my hair braided there, when I washed it, several braids fell out despite me having 2+ inches of growth. This was not the case when I went to Layla's in silver spring. I called the place to explain but they took no ownership, so I'll just take my money elsewhere. read more

I was supposed to get goddess box braids and paid $270 including the hair. I purchased the hair they instructed me to buy and the style did not look even close to what I wanted. The hair matted the same day. I called the next day to speak with the owner but no one picked up; instead I received a text message stating they were unavailable to speak. Also, I reached out regarding my dissatisfaction via the business website and never heard from anyone. I removed my braid less than a week and had to pay to get it done over. I was chargers $140.00 for a weave I only left it in for three days because Sally did a piss poor job and refused to fix it!!!! My daughter got sick and her scalp swollen from the tightness of the wicked lady who made a 10year old girl hair on October 10th,2020. The last time I went to get my crochets touched up. After two days, the entire row came over in the back. My hair was not dried completely, which caused a smell. I hate writing bad reviews but I feel duped by this place. It's truly hit or miss here. This was my first time but I have friends that come here often. I got Marley twist and they came out horrible. First I told my braider I wanted my hair twisted at the root. Not only did she not twist them she actually cornrow the root about a half inch. My parts are a mess and I can't really put my hair up. The quality is horrible. I get my hair braided regularly. Someone actually asked me if I did my own hair and gave me advice on how to make it neater next time. That was a very embarrassing experience as I paid 160 and had to buy the hair 40 for 8 packs to have it professionally done. read more

I came in because I wanted some layered braids. I called before to see if someone was available. When I walked in, I was greeted and after explaining I just called, I showed Sally the picture and she said ok. She then walked over to a lady taking a nap and told her to get up and do it. She was given the picture and she started. Everything was going well until halfway through when I looked in the mirror and saw that my braids were small and closer together, not bigger and spaced out. I said it's ok maybe they will last longer. She gets to the front and starts to braid and she completely ignores what I asked for and started doing her own thing. I brought it to her attention and she said it's the same. No ma'am, it's not! She took the braids out after Sally came over and explained how to do it. I let her finish, went to pay and Sally discounted the price because of all the mess. The kicker is when I got in the car, I looked at my braids and it looks as if some 3 yr old did my hair. The parts are not neat, and the actual braids are lumpy. Pretty much don't get your hair done here if you want it done a particular way. read more

This place is a complete joke. I went there for literally two feed in braids. First of the braider wasn't even there when I got there and I had to wait 30mins. Secondly the braided Ingrid did a horrible job! She literally cornrowed my hair without any product on it, nothing not even grease. I have a good natural grain of hair but I'm still an African American with African American roots! She tells me she's not obligated to put product in the hair first and she can't braid like that. Then she only had two cheap gel options the Brown pro gel crap and the clear version which mean I had to use all of my edge control. She didn't even put me under the dryer after applying her cheap mousse. I got my hair done Friday at 7pm and and here it is Monday that my hair looks 3 weeks old. 2X Never Again! Went to shop on Memorial Day for twists, discussed color when making appointment. When I got there, the owner did not have my color, she proceeded to suggest mixing two colors. My previous stylist, who has been out of the country, normally takes 3hours; I was at Sally's shop for 7 hours. Second go round, went in to get touch up on twists, call made appointment and reminded owner the color that was in my hair. I arrive to my appt. on time, had to wait 1hr., then once in the stylist chair the discussion started about the color in my hair. Bottom line the owner did not have my color in stock and told the stylist to take out the hair that was being touched up, a few rows, and then reuse the hair. What a mess, I should have left; the process took 3 hours, once I was in the chair, my previous stylist normally take 1 hr for few rows touchup. And my hair looks a hot mess, because the stylist reused the old hair, and since it was tangle she had to do some cutting. But let me point out, both times the stylists that work on my hair, were very friendly and professional. I suggest the owner take more pride when scheduling appontments, the time, hair and supplies needed in advance of client's appt. Hopefully my stylist, who does braids in her home will return soon, if not the hunt is on for another braider... read more

They are 1 for 2 with me. The 1st time I went I was completely amazed. The stylist was fast and did great work. The customers sitting in the waiting area were arguing about who was gonna sit in her seat after me. The 2nd time took 2 hours longer than the 1st time and I had to stop and give direction 2 x about making sure the braids were the same length as braids from the lady who started my hair. Yes.. I will explain why I gave Sallys 4 stars in a moment. One Saturday morning, I decided that I wanted to get my hair braided. I research several salons and found a review that mentioned Sallys being great with short hair (perfect). I called the salon and spoke with Sally. She asked me what style did I want and when did I want to come in, and I told her ASAP. I assumed my appointment would be for the next day, but to my surprise she told me to come now. I got dressed and made my way to Sallys. I initially said that I wanted small box braids, but after seeing deepwave braids on a customer, I asked to switch, and they obliged. After sitting for 10 minutes, I was asked to sit in a styling chair. The braider asked me to give her a few minutes because she needed to eat (fine, you are seeing me as a walk-in, basically). Once she got to it, she was very friendly. Eventually, she had someone come over to help her. I believe her name was Nadine. In the beginning, Nadine complained a lot, my hair was too short, huffing and puffing, etc. I was on the verge of asking her to stop working on my hair when she started playing gospel. Immediately, her whole attitude, spirit, energy changed. During the braiding session, the initial braider kept sneezing to the point her son asked her if she was allergic to something. I admit; I love perfume and figured it must be my perfume. Anyway, my hair was finished in a little over 3 hours, and the pain was minimal. Sally's had great customer service, they were quick, clean, and overall pleasant. So why did I give it four stars you ask??? The sneezer turned out to be patient 0 for this virus that I now have!!!! read more

I need to preface this by mentioning that I've been going to Sally's for quite some time for braids- it is always pretty much it or miss but I've always been unwilling to try something new. The last time I ventured to Sally's- in the fall- I showed up when they opened ( per usual) to get my box braids done. Sally's has always provided the hair for box braids and when I called the night before to let them know I'd be there first thing- it was never mentioned that they had no hair. When I got there, there was only one girl there and she informed me that they didn't have the hair but one of the other braiders would bring the hair with her. I sat there for about an hour- the second braider showed up- no hair. I was asked, casually, if I had cash presumably to pay up front so they could take $20 to go and purchase hair when the beauty supply shop opened an hour later. I had no cash so I was asked to wait again. During this time braider 2 proceeded to braid braider 1s hair and I was pretty much ignored until I was finally asked again for $20 as the beauty supply shop should be opened now. I was so frustrated that I just walked out to my car. While I was sitting in my car asking Mr Google for a nearby braid shop, I see the braiders coming to my car- asking me to come back inside. Apologizing, saying I've been coming to them to please come back and they would go get the hair. Funny, considering they ignored me when I was sitting there but now they were remembering that I was a long standing customer and to please come back. Needless to say I have not been back. I found a nearby shop, Rally Hair Braiding who does a great job with my hair- whose braiders are more personable and friendly and who get me in and out quickly. I got stuck with someone who did not know what they were doing and was not told that this person must have been training and was still charged full price. not to mention over charged after hearing what other woman who got the same exact style and length hair I did while I was there. They only take cash which I was not told before she started doing my hair and then expected me to walk 3 blocks in the dark in Poughkeespie by myself! She made my box braids way to thin and way too tight! I could barley sleep on my head for over a week! I had to take ALL the edge braids out within two days because they were ripping all the hair out of my head when I SPECIFICALLY asked them to make those ones thicker so that would NOT happen! They would not give me the extra unused hair that I paid for at the supply store across the street because they were out of the one I wanted when I was done! I was really disppointed with the service my daughter received today. What she/I asked for was not done. Me daughter has gotten her hair done there several times. I've paid $180.00 for box braids for long length. The pass two times paid $160.00 for medium length. I drop her off and her Dad picked her up. I called to ask how was her hair she sent a picture and it was not the length we agreed to. I called and had my sister and husband go back with pictures of her when it was done long and done medium length. I was told that's what agreed to,it wasn't what I agree to. If that was the case why charge me $160.00 and not $140.00 for the length which was agreed it was shorter. I also give a $20.00 tip a well. They tried to argue with me about what I paid last time. I know what I paid the pictures speaks for me in regards to what I paid that was showed. They don't give receipts and only want cash. I went there because it convenient to me house the work is ok and you can always get a apppointment. It's over I won't be back. For future customers watch for the bait and switch. This shop is the absolute worse. STAY AWAY from there. The owner (mgr) whoever she is pulled up pics on Pinterest for me. I decided on one and she said yes we can do that. The first lady she assigned to me must have been new. She kept asking me if I wanted to put my own spin on the style. I told her no. She had to take it out twice. She finally passed me to someone else. She was very nice but the style ended up being a Pinterest fail. Sally of course conveniently was not in the shop by the time I was finished. So I sent her pics of my final outcome. Of course she never responded. If I could give this shop a negative Star I would. Sally has become too Amercanized and its showing in her work. Most African braiding shops take pride in their work and would never let anyone get out of their chair without it looking nice.
