I did not have a positive experience at Salon 809. My appointment did not begin at the scheduled time, and I waited approximately 45 minutes before my service started. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the stylist finally began, her attitude and overall demeanor were noticeably negative, which made the experience uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Additionally, the stylist started blow-drying my hair without applying a heat protectant. I had to request that it be used, which should be standard practice. Clients should not have to ask for basic hair care measures. I also found the pricing to be excessive for the level of service provided. Certain treatments, such as deep conditioning, are not included in some services and come at an additional cost. Unfortunately, the hair service did not feel justified by its price: $125$ for 3 choppy, unclean layers and tight curls to be called a "blowout." Despite not wanting it. An entire section of hair wasn't even curled, and the stylist didn't come close to the style I wanted, despite the reference photos. I appreciate her attempt, but I feel unsatisfied and robbed. I'm extremely disappointed in this experience... I was refused a wash and roller set for whatever reason and was forced to get a blowout instead. I'm assuming it's because of my hair type, but I literally got a roller set 2 weeks prior at another salon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While the receptionist was nice, my stylist seemed irritated with my presence alone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked her to use the product I brought and she used a few sprays over my thick type 4 hair... clearly not enough. Most of the products were anti humidity so since enough wasn't used, my hair puffed up as soon as I sweated a bit... I've got blow out many times before and my hair has never reverted that quickly. I also asked her to turned down the heat and she didn't. She burned my scalp multiples times with both the blowdyer and flat iron. I was also charged an extra fee for the thickness of my hair and I was not told until the end when I had to pay...which extremely predatory. And considering that fact that I brought my own product and I have a short bob, it makes no sense. It's just a being black with natural hair fee. I can't control the density of my hair and a hairstylist should be able to just do the hair in front of them without an additional fee. Absolutely terrible experience with the professionalism and lack of licensed stylist operating. I have reported this business to MD Board of Cosmology! My hair was singed off in multiple spots and the owner offered a conditioner to rectify the situation. Having the audacity to say my hair was DAMAGED, which was absolutely untrue! Did I mind getting drenched on the wet and wild shampoo ride, a few oops of near scalp second degree burns, or forced into a heat helmet that I turned down from Devils pitch mode. NOT AT ALL. Note: the shampooing is everything, worth the slightly damp shirt. No worries the dryer will handle that. There is a lovely receptionist, a process and they graciously accept same day appointments. The atmosphere is nice, clean and cute. The products they use are quality, even the heat protection solution is awesome and smells great. All the stylists are licensed, now if you are looking for delusional overly friendly staff this ain't the place. These women have personality that suits the business and firm enough to understand no one will take advantage of them. I am always looking for straight to the point service with satisfactory service, no gossiping, not asking me a bunch of questions and not spending hours waiting. Came in today had no appointment was in the area. I had a job with bang and needed my roots retouched as far as color I have naturally light brown hair I color it jet black. I recommend this place. Hair lays perfectly, trimming isn't a chunk of hair but a few strains that needs to actually be trimmed. Fair trim!!! The place is super clean, and the crew that works there is very kind. As well as accommodating, and flexible. They are also reasonable priced. I received my hair cut in August with them and they colored it light beautiful blondish brown color. It's winter now, so I colored it myself with a black rinse but they conditioned it, as well as trimmed it today. An literally brought my hair back to life for NYE!!! My hair has heat damaged after my service at Salon 809. I had my hair blown out, trimmed, and flat ironed on February 8, 2019 and when I washed my hair yesterday my texture is totally different and some areas didn't revert. I didn't know what heat was, I had look up what was going on with my hair on YouTube. I only straighten my hair once a year and for this to happen I'm really disappointed. The blow dryer the stylist used was very hot, but I thought that was just a part of the process. I was happy with the results at time, and the week that followed, but I love my natural curls and had I known this would happen I would have never straighten my hair. That plus I can be uber lazy and have no desire to wash, deep condition and straighten my hair, especially because it has not been straightened in months. Enter Salon 809, a co-worker told me about it and their Tues/Wed special and I was SOLD! Located right off of 214, in a small strip mall. You can't see it from the road. Parking is good for the area. Inside is beautifully decorated, they did a really nice job. I arrived about 30 min or so before they take the last client (6:15p) and I was next up at the wash bowl (whoooppp)! I had a great wash and a even better deep condition. I was immediately placed in rollers and sat under the dryer. Since it was my first time, I had no preference for a stylist so I was finsished before others that were there before me. I got a trim and asked to have my hair curled, I left with it pinned. To know: Like most Dominican salons, you may get charged more due to length and/or thickness of hair. More often than not I do. My hair is hella long now and I get it. If you leave with your hair pinned you will pay for the Bobby pins (duh) Bring cash on Tues/Wed for the specials Be nice to CeCe at the front. She is so dope! I called before I even came in and that made a world of difference about getting in. They have a rewards program...use it Sign up for their list to find out about specials. Very honest. If you have concerns, questions or issues with the services, products or charges they do take the time to explain in detail. The owner is prompt with responding back with messages. Another thing please stop saying this salon uses chemicals or relaxers in the shampoo, conditioner, or deep conditioner. When you straighten your hair there is a slight chance of heat damage or altering of the curl pattern. I believe it's posted in the salon. They do discourage use of relaxers unless you a senior citizen stuck in their ways and won't give up relaxers. Stop lying on this salon. This salon doesn't even offer relaxer services any more. Stop with the hate because your hair can't handle a blowout or a wash and set. Honestly underneath the dryer is not set on hell or the dry is not too hot if it is open your mouth. Never had an issue I've been going since 2018 on and off. This is the only salon that made me feel good about not relaxing my hair. This was my first visit here. Pros: The stylist took their time. The cost was fairly decent, the parking was great. Con: Half of my hair fell out afterward. Today was my first time washing my hair after I got it done there and large amounts of my hair fell out in chunks. I have natural hair. I believe to work better with the hair, they put a chemical treatment in my natural hair. I think the chemical has been too much for my hair and has caused it to fall out. My first hint that the employees in this place are "hot" (as in temperature and attitude) was the fact that both the front and back doors of this place were wide open. Talk about bad omens! My second hint that something odd is going on here came when I approached the receptionist. Her entire demeanor was one of snobbery and she gave the impression that it was a bother to her that I had come through the door. It took her a while to acknowledge me and when she did, there was no friendliness there. She inquired about what I wanted done and then she blandly said, "Go to the back and have a seat". My third hint that this place was problematic was when I encountered the first shampoo assistant. She immediately said to me with an attitude, "Go to the front and wait. She (the woman behind me) came in before you" I told her that the receptionist had told me to come to the back so was I now returning to the front? It was then that another shampoo assistant saw my frustration and told me to have a seat and that she would wash my hair when she finished her present client. I did. And she told me I was in the wrong seat. I moved. My 4th and final hint that I was definitely in the wrong spot was when I looked at the hairstylists. Not one smile. No kindness on their faces. No indication that they were happy with their jobs at all. I got up and walked out. I'm sure they do good hair but the heaviness in the air was not to my liking. I am very disappointed that my hair texture is now that of when I was getting my hair chemically straightened with perms after getting my hair done at Salon 809. I am aware of my hair texture with chemical straighteners and in it's natural state. So I'm here to tell all my naturalistas to stay away. DO NOT COME HERE! If you value your hair in anyway, let alone your time and self respect, please do not come here. I'll just drop some quick bullets: Had an appointment came in promptly was told to have a seat, and in the end after following up once waited an hour and a half for my hair to get started, with zero communication on how much longer it would be or that someone will be with me soon or anything. Though I've decided to cut me hair, I do appreciate her kindness and this type of business you do not get anywhere else. I do recommend this salon and I wish Jeimy and her business nothing but the best! *Update* *SIGH* I really really hate to have to update my review, because I really enjoyed my experience. But my hair is damaged to the point where it won't do anything. It won't curl, I can't twist it, I can't flat twist, nothing. My curl pattern is gone. I am in the process of repairing it, but the damage seems irreversible and I will probably have to cut it. I've been growing my hair for three and a half years and my hair is almost halfway down my back, so I'm really sad I may have to cut it. The results I had were amazing, but definitely not worth the damage. Hopefu I've been here twice now. This review is a combination of both visits 1st visit- Everything went well, I was satisfied when I left. I wished the shampoo lady scratched my scalp a bit more, but I washed my hair a few days prior to that so I did not really need it. I just like getting my scalp scratched. Eva did my hair and she did a wonderful job. She was gentle and she did not burn me at all. My blowout lasted two and a half weeks. I felt I was left under the dryer a bit too long (I was there a little over an hour, last time I was only under there for 30 minutes or so) so I started to get uncomfortable with the heat and the way the dryer was sitting on my head it started to hurt my neck. The second thing was the stylist. I requested Eva (the same girl who did my hair my first time) but when I came from the dryer, I was told to sit in someone else's chair. The reason I didn't say anything was because I have only been there once and I thought it would only be fair to try out another stylist. But this stylist (I didn't get her name) was too rough and the blow dryer was too hot on my scalp. Also, she asked me if I wanted it curly or straight and I said straight. I was expecting my hair to have a little bump to it like last time, but she literally straight with no body to it. Just....flat and a little frizzy judging how much heat she used. Today I went to Salon 809 4/15/21, I arrived at 9:30am which I was under the impression I had an appointment. Only to be told my appointment wasn't confirmed so therefore I would have to be serviced last even though I was the first person in the salon at 9:30am. I was under the dryer and the front desk person came over to me stating that she is unable to locate my appointment therefore I would have to have 3 other customers (2 of which are currently just arrived and receiving their hair washed) I explained that I was the first client to arrive and they are currently still getting their hair washed so why would I have to wait to be serviced! The young stated that I was considered a walk-in & therefore those with appointments will be serviced first! This makes no sense. If this is the new procedures or salon rules. This should be posted on the website or at the door notifying clients that they are only taking clients by appointment only!! I am appalled as I have been coming to this salon since 2017 & have never been informed of this. I understand COVID procedures and businesses making changes but please notify your clients of these changes prior to me sitting down, getting my hair washed and under the dryer. This is not your average Dominican hair salon. Not by a long shot. I've been three times so far and enjoy each visit. The women are warm and inviting. They remember you. I've had a keratin treatment, wash and set; and today I had the Brazilian knots install (thank you Jeimy!). I am so thrilled with the service and I can't stop looking at my hair. Jeimy, the owner, is extremely helpful and had no problem answering my 1,001 questions. I've always avoided hair salons because they never felt very welcoming and the stylists kind of just do what they want to do, and not what you want. I haven't had that experience here. I've also watched multiple women get their hair done (since I've had lengthy treatments) and all of the stylists are great. (Angela can curl some hair!) So I highly recommend Salon 809. There is no real communication. When I realized the stylist was putting a whole two packs of curly hair in my head (she told another stylist in Spanish. Guess she thought I didn't know the language) I stopped her. That's too much hair for my head. I normally use a pack and a half of curly hair when I get sew ins. She told me just one more row. I've only been here twice. My first time coming was in December and I'm back again in January. When I first came in December, I absolutely loved it. There was a roller set special and I definitely took advantage of that plus I had a deep condition and a trim I desperately needed LOL! My stylist was very informative and she told me she was going to have to cut a lot and I knew that because I was flat ironing my hair at home and not properly taking care of it but I didn't mind her cutting it. I loved the cut and I signed up for the text messages and received a $10 off my next visit. I recently came in on the 4th of January (my birthday) and I overall had a good experience other than my hoodie being soaked by the woman that washed my hair and her coughing in my face smh. My first experience here was great I came on a Sunday as a walk in. The receptionist was nice and friendly, the owner came in and offered me a drink. I left with my hair pin curled and I loved it the next day. Today I'm back, it's Valentine's Day and the shop is busy as to be expected. There was about 4 ladies ahead of me for a shampoo. Last time they used Slilcon mix as a deep conditioner which I didn't like because of they strong smell. Today I opted for something different that apparently was new. I go to get my hair shampooed and the shampoo lady seems agitated. She taps my glasses instead of asking me to remove them, then she's holding the cape out and I'm waiting for her to make a move, but she says nothing so I'm confused as to what to do. Very disappointed. I picked a hair color. They match it with color swatch. I ended up with orange hair. I had a long conversation with stylist prior to coloring that I definitely did not want the orange copper hair. I hate it. They did offer to re do color. So I did go back to this salon because I had such a pleasant experience. I am just now writing a new review because I wanted warn others about getting your hair dyed and a cut. It was awful. They used the wrong dye or something and redid it and ruined my hair! The cut was 4 whacks and looked nothing like what I asked for. I showed her a picture! A simple layered bob. Then I was made to pay for a deep conditioner because of the trauma of the dye job. It is so upsetting. I stopped going to my regular hairdresser because she went farther out to Waldorf but I will take that drive from now on. My hair is so damaged that my hairdresser recommends that I only do natural styles, weaves, or cornrows to let my hair and scalp heal. read more

Before making an appointment, I researched reviews, their website,Instagram and even contacted Jeimy. Jeimy responds quickly and made me feel comfortable about getting my hair done at their salon as they promote healthy hair and products. I was skeptical because I am new to the area and I've been natural for 6 years now. Upon first impression, the shop is very nice. I was slightly uncomfortable as the customer service I got when I walked in I felt the woman at the front (not Jeimy) made an assumption that I've been there before. She asked what I needed and handed me a slip with the services I requested written on it. Then didn't say anything to me after that but began speaking to the others in Spanish I believe. That didn't really bother me to the point I questioned their customer service though. Once I sat in the chair for a wash, the woman began detangling my hair while it was dry using a denman brush...... Which was strike 1 for me. I'm pretty sure I lost a lot of hair during the wash. Anyway, my hair looked amazing afterwards and I wasn't sure if a heat protectant was even used thoroughly to protect my hair from the excessive heat used during a Dominican blowout (this was my first and probably my last). After the blow out my hair had a smell to it but I expected that because of heat being applied. So the reason why I'm rating a 3 star is due to the heat damage I received after getting my hair done at Salon 809. I understand that this is the risk we take when getting heat applied to our hair but Being that this is a salon that promotes healthy hair, I didn't think the damage would be as excessive as it was. My ends that were once curls/coils are now straight. I contacted Jeimy about it and she did show remorse and offered a treatment at no cost. Jeimy was out of town at the time I went for the treatment. It did help slightly but my hair has not been the same since. The little bit of curls I do have are now loose or not curly at all. Just a hot mess. I've cut out all of the Straight ends. I really appreciate Jeimy and the great customer service she gave me. Unfortunately I will not be returning to their salon due to the damage that was done to my hair. I'm leaving this review warn others of the risk you are taking when getting a Dominican blowout. I am speaking based off of my personal experience. This may not be the case for you. Oh I also want to mention I went in thinking I was going to pay $85 (Dominican blow out starts at $65, deep conditioner starts at $10) at the most and ended up paying a over $100 for a Dominican blowout and a deep condition. I feel that it would help to verbally warn us as some of us may be first time customers aren't completely aware how much more is charged for thickness and length. read more
