This is the best place to get true, authentic, Trinidadian food. Eating at Sally's feels like pulling up a chair in my own family's kitchen, and it's as close to being in Trinidad as one can get. The homely restaurant is run by some of the most humble and kind owners who are just happy to be able to serve food that they grew up with and share that experience with their customers. Grabbed some takeout on a weekday (during Covid times), not too busy. You're able to order and just wait a short bit while they prep everything. Ordered a Double (spicy), Curry Goat Roti and Curry Chicken Roti. The portion sizes are pretty big. The bag had some real weight to it. The Double was pretty good, not that spicy though. Good texture. The curries were alright, some good flavours but a little bland for me. There were some big chunks of goat meat, but there were also just some big chunks of potato. I also found it a little dry. The roti was also only ok, a bit of good chew, but I was hoping for something a bit flakier. The little jar of coleslaw(?) they give is good, adds some nice crunch and a little spice to the bite. Overall great value, OK taste. read more

This is a great restaurant for authentic food. We ordered the oxtail special and the curry lamb wrap. The oxtail was fantastic - the meat was flavourful and fell off the bone. The sauce was so rich and delicious, we only wish there was more of it, given how mediocre the rice and coleslaw were. The curry lamb wrap was so tasty. The potatoes were melt in your mouth, the lamb was nicely spiced, and the roti itself was delectable. We really, really wish there was more sauce on the lamb, because it got a little dry with a few bites. Overall, we're super glad we came to try Sally's. This place is epic and our new found must stop when visiting my fam in Kingston. We found this little gem all thanks to Yelp (thanks Yelp!) and really enjoyed our meal. The friendly gentleman behind the cash seemed to be the owner while his wife (?) held down the kitchen. The space itself was also spotlessly clean, which is always a great sign. As others have noted, it's a fairly causal relaxed atmosphere. We each ordered a roti and bae also chose a double along with a lemon and lime bitters drink. What a great addition to the restaurant options in downtown Kingston! I tried this restaurant for the first time on the weekend and I will definitely be back. For a first visit we wanted to try an assortment of things on the menu, so we went with the family meal that offered our choice of two meats (we went for the curried chicken and curried goat), one veg (spinach), beans and rice, and four rotis. The price for the family meal was actually less than if we had ordered four individual wraps. The food was delicious!! Both curried meats were very tender and flavourful. I also really enjoyed the rice and beans with a mild spice flavor. The rotis were thin and light and tender. Putting our own wraps together was fun and the meal came with a lot of food, so there was lots left over. I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. While I'm glad Kingston has a Jamaican eatery I was hoping for better. Food was bland, the LAST thing you'd expect. Portions were small too. The food here is great, service is extremely quick, the portions are generous, and the staff are personable and friendly. As far as I know, all of the veggie dishes are also vegan, so it's a hidden gem for any fellow vegans. Highly recommend! Extremely friendly service, and very flavourful food. Affordable and worth every penny. I visit here weekly and always get the "doubles" spicy. It's not overwhelmingly hot, but I'm into very spicy food. They do offer a mild version. Super cheap and filling! I've tried other menu items and nothing has disappointed me. I never thought I would see Trinidadian doubles again in my life, and here they are, magically popping up somewhere so desolate as Kingston, Ontario. At $1.50 a pop, it's a steal. Just tried this place today, I've had roti before and am a huge fan of this place. Got the chicken roti, the meat:potato ratio was pretty awesome at about 1:1 and the wrap and sauce was super flavourful. The chicken/potato was also awesomely tender and tasty.
