Super nice spot. I am the worst at planning ahead for hair cuts so I love that I can call and get a same day appointment. The staff is so nice and very knowledgeable. I came in for a cut and left with a color appoint for the next week. They even have a dreads professional- which is so cool. Honestly the perfect place for a cut and color. I know this is a pretty night and day difference in reviews but I am thoroughly impressed by the salon owner and salon manager's follow up and customer service. James the owner was very quick to respond to my complaints. There were quite a bit of misunderstandings during this experience that James was able to explain to me. She was transparent, responsive, and effective in her dealings of bettering my experience. Not only did she stay in constant communication to reassure she was investigating what happened, she was able to resolve it to the best of her abilities, which in this case, was above and beyond. I am happy that the owner heard customer's complaints and are actively trying to better their business. Not only that, I was able to get my hair fixed and get the full service. Astrid, the manager, did an AMAZING job of fixing my hair even when I thought it was unfixable. So good, that I honestly think I found my go-to hairdresser. This was a perfect example of awesome business ownership. Moving forward, I definitely recommend Salon 21 and Astrid. read more

I'll start by saying that the owner James is a good dude and is pretty good at listening and executing the cut and style you want. He's not taking clients right now so don't bother going in. Of the 3 other stylist I've tried none of them did a good job. Tonight I received the worst haircut I've ever had. She cut about a years worth of growth off that I didn't want cut. I hate reviewing hair places because some people's hair suck more than other people's hair. Significantly better cuts than the other dollar cut places that I used to go to and only for about 10 dollars more. I am always happy with how my hair ends up AND they always wash your hair and give you a scalp massage which other places sometimes fail to do. It is very easy to get an appointment and the stylists are good at reading if you are in a talkative mood or not. First time i was not, the second time I was. They make you sign this waiver thing before you get it, & when I was going through it, I saw some pics of burns that people have gotten from getting waxed..but I signed anyway thinking, "well it's never happened before, so I don't think it'll happen now." Salon 21 in Orem, Utah is great! If you're a guy in Utah Valley, you know what I mean when I say it's difficult finding a stylist that has the attention to detail for a great men's cut. Sure, you can find one that does a good cut, but why settle for just good? Salon 21 does great men's cuts! (I have seen some of their work with women too, and it's just as great!) How do you get the hook up? Simply call them up and let them know what kind of look/style you're going for and they'll pair you with a stylist who knows what they're doing to give you the desired look. Also, I do know that some of the stylists are specialists in certain areas. Example...If Balayage is your thing, then ask if they have a stylist that specializes in Balayage. Get it? Here's a free tip on a getting a great haircut with a new stylist: Communicate clearly the type of look you're going for with your stylist. If your stylist clearly understands what you want, then you'll get it. You know, the whole, ask and ye shall receive quote. ;) Oh and be patient...You may not get the 'exact' look you want on the first try, because they're correcting bad cut or bad color you had last time. Trust me, they have a vested interest in keeping you as a client. They want you happy and not only looking great, but feeling great too! If you guide them, they will help you get there. read more

Got my hair dyed for the first time and they did a wonderful job on the colors but she only did the underneath layer of my hair instead of the entire hair which is sad considering we paid a lot for it but we are scheduled to do it again. I put my full trust into my stylist. Because of that, I am rather picky on what hair salon I go to. It took me awhile to find Salon 21 but after my 1st appointment there, I knew I found my perfect salon. My stylist, Erin, is so fun! I trust her to make my hair look good even when I have no idea what I really want. Not only does she do a FANTASTIC job with my hair, I always have a great time just talking. Everyone is so friendly! I come to Salon 21 to get my eyebrows done as well and I've had some pretty horrible past waxing experiences. But I'm never disappointed here. I set up my appointment at least 2 months in advance because I refuse to go anywhere else. Salon 21 is definitely the best! read more

My experience here has varied based on which stylist I've seen. My brother and I both received haircuts from Astrid. She is a talented stylist who can cut hair well, no matter the style! She cut my bangs well (never too short or too heavy), and layered my hair so that I could keep growing it out without it weighing me down. Astrid's experience sets her apart from the other employees, and I recommend her! Susannah, on the other hand, has been a mixed bag for me. The first haircut I received from her was good. The second one featured the worst bang trim of my life. The whole haircut (especially the bangs) grew out terribly. She didn't do a good job of cutting it to flatter my face. Worst experience ever! I have been getting my eyelashes tinted for the past 20 years and never had issues. Every brand ever used has always worked. I moved to Utah June of this year and decide I need to find me a lash lady, I come here to Salon 21, meet the girl that will be doing tinting, she is friendly which makes me feel comfortable and I see the brand and am excited because I have used this brand for many years. She did TWO applications and it wouldn't stick on my lashes. But wow she stained my skin, no amount of rubbing took it off. Plus its BROWN. I requested black but for whatever reason its brown. She is super sweet about it and finds her manager. I remain calm and explain to the manager the problem of my lashes not being tinted but my skin is burning now from her staining and trying to remove the BROWN not black off my eyelids and under eyes. The manager said I don't need to pay for it. Well DUH of course I am not paying for a service I didn't get. What I'm upset about is her attitude toward me and her lying about how long my skin will be stained. The sweet lash girl tells me a few hours, the manager says just a day or two, but I know for a FACT it will be stained on my skin for a week!!! And what about this burning!?!! Thanks for nothing Salon 21, I will never recommend you to anyone and will steer anyone away when possible. Now I get to explain to my date why my skin around my eyes are stained brown and are red from irritation cause of the rubbing. read more

I made an appointment to have my hair done so they had me come in for a consultation and I had told the girl what I wanted which was a balayage ombre and she told me I would need a color correction when the underside was bleached. It just needed some toner and then the color I then wanted. After she was looking at my hair I was telling her all I've done to is was bleach the underside she continued to ask if I had box dyed my hair to the point I got offended. I didn't end up going to the appointment I had to reschedule. I forgot about the appointment and didn't cancel n now they are charging me 50% I think some changes can be made with the professionalism at this salon. Start doing down payments make it more aware there will be a fee if there will be a no show so that the artist is guaranteed the pay. I didn't end up getting my hair done here but the experience I had just for trying to make an appointment and having to make multiple trips to and from just isn't worth it there are other salons that have quick easy ways of getting your appointment set up with exactly what you want. They kept back tracking on what they could do after saying they could do a hair color for a certain price then changing their mind. I couldn't get a clear answer on what the price would be for different options. I said I could only pay $120 max and asked how much a balliage would be vs a melt and in the end Joy said that since I wasn't sure what I wanted done that she refused to do my hair because they have set prices and it sounded like I wanted something that would cost more money than they could do. Joy had already offered me a deal for $120 with a cut, curl, and color but her manager who was standing there told her she couldn't do it after all. I didn't know I had to be careful to talk about price because the manager was a hair stylist in the booth right next to her I am guessing. Why can't they have a picture book to show different options with the names of what the styles are and the prices? They said hair is too complicated to do that. I felt confused and overwhelmed by the time I left. Awful customer service. I just found out my baby is going to be born premature today and told them I just needed to get my hair done within my budget since we need money for the baby and I wanted to look good for the baby shower tomorrow and Joy had an emotional meltdown as if she was the one with pregnancy hormones. Got eyelash extension after many family and friends loved theirs. My experience here was awful and they were done sloppy. You are only supposed to apply one fake lash to a real one and mine are clumped together. Now ALL my real eyelashes are falling out. Not happy with this place at all. read more

Awful experience. As soon as I walk in the door the receptionist with blonde hair immediately says "what's your name" in a very demanding tone. No "how are you" or anything like that. I told her my name and she said "well let me if ____ is available because she had to take a call"... (I had an appointment) and then when the stylist came out she muttered "5 minutes late" under her breath... no smile, didn't ask how I was or anything, didn't even introduce herself. She didn't smile once during our consultation and seemed uninterested. I would never let anyone here touch my hair, no customer service at all. After our consultation she literally just walked away, didn't say thank you for coming in or anything!!! Unbelievable. I'm not usually one to write reviews but l actually feel like I should with what I experienced. I made an appointment with Salon 21 with Lexi's great help and she was just awesome and so friendly. I wanted to go all blond cause I was getting ready for my wedding! I was pretty excited and they wanted me to do a hair consultation first with Astrid which I had no problem doing. When I got there she had me sit down and looked at my hair. The next 10 minuets I wanted to cry. Her brutal honesty left me wanting to leave, I've never felt so awful about my appearance before. I knew she was good at what she did and was only telling me what she thought I needed to hear, but it only came off rude and hurtful. I only heard negative things about my hair like how weak it felt and that more than half my hair was damaged. She even said she saw green in my hair from some product I didn't even know I have used. She said my hair would never be the blond I would want. Again, I know she was just being honest and everything she told me is probably true. But there is a better way to talk to people (especially to a customer and about their appearance). When my fiancé and I got to the car I started to cry. All I heard in there was how awful my hair was and I couldn't get the look I would love to have. read more

Granted, I'd never spoken to this particular woman and she was friendly, but she told me they had an "Ashley Bitch" written down for that time. I asked her to repeat the name to make sure I heard correctly, and she again said "Ashley Bitch." She asked for my phone number, and it was the same. I went in the week before and scheduled an appointment to come back, so it was the actual esthetician who wrote my name down. I'm obviously offended and NEVER going back, again. Services received: Brazilian, upper lip and eye brow. The positives: the place is very clean and pretty. You will feel comfortable. The negatives: this might have been the longest waxing of my entire life. so slow. if i had received the best wax of my life, the time would not have been an issue, but the wax job was mediocre at best. the waxer had no wrist strength. when you pull waxing strips off the skin- especially in sensitive places- it needs to be removed with a fast, taunt, fluid action. My waxer was unable to do this. almost every strip that was pulled from my skin was done so in a very painful way and sometimes needed 2-3 pulls to remove a single strip. The Brazilian was especially painful. i was in actual pain for the rest of the day. i have never had this happen to me in all of my years of waxing. the big hygienic issue: the waxer double dipped! so gross. what does this mean? she used the same wooden applicator for my entire visit. so every time the wooden applicator applied wax to my skin, she would use the same applicator and dip it back into the bowl of hot wax. This means that every client that has ever been into that waxing room has shared the same bowl of wax. The heat is not strong enough to kill bacteria and this is how infections are spread. double dipping is a HUGE waxing faux pas. a simple google search will tell you how infectious double dipping can be for clients. Its a really dirty and lazy practice. i have been to several waxing places in orem and have never been impressed with the results. i decided to pay a little more by going to salon 21, but due to the pain and double dipping involved, i won't be making any more future visits. read more

I never leave reviews. Never ever. But I am so frustrated and I don't want anyone else to have to deal with this. I got my eyelashes done here 4 days ago and basically all of them have fallen out. Even my husband noticed they are falling out like crazy. After spending 50 dollars I'm so disappointed. I've been getting my lashes done for about 8 or 9 months now, so I know what to expect, and this was not how it should go. It took me over a year for my hair to outgrow the hack job it got here. I asked for a shoulder length "lob" and left with shoulder length pieces of hair in the front and dramatic uneven layers in the back. The shortest layer was only a couple inches long! I was mortified. She didn't listen to what I wanted and rushed through my cut so she could go back to chatting with coworkers in the lobby. I took my daughter to this salon because of the many services that they offer and I was told they could do mixed hair....not true at all. Her hair was a bit damaged when I brought her in so they could not do the relax I had planned but suggested a keratin treatment that would give us close to the same results. After she washed her hair it looks like nothing was done! I understand it will not be straight but it should be more wavy at least that's what we were told. Astrid told her manager I had told the manager that my daughter's hair stank from the treatment which I never said. The customer service is atrocious here. I went in for my first time about a month ago with my friend, both of us got a bikini wax, both of us were doing it for the first time. The girl that helped my friend was nice and made her feel comfortable. However the lady that did mine was cold and rude to me, she laughed and treated me like I was stupid when asking questions (especially about safety and sanitation since it was my first time), didn't explain the process or what she would do, and simply walked out when she was finished. I had my hair cut here a couple months ago and have mixed feelings (thus the 3-star review). The great yelp reviews led me to this place and when I walked in I got the impression that it was nice enough but not as nice as places I usually go to. The girl that cut my hair only had a few years of experience but she was very nice and I enjoyed talking with her. However, the lack of experience shows because I asked for a simple cut (just straight to my shoulders, no layering or anything), and first she had me part my hair (which I have never done at a salon) even though I told her I always just part it down the middle, then when she finished it looked fine for the 10 seconds you look it over, but a couple days later I noticed the sides were completely uneven (by an entire inch at least, it's so noticeable I've had people comment on it). At this point I was out of town for a couple weeks and so I couldn't do anything about it. If I had been in town I would have gone back and asked them to fix it (which I hope they would have done) but I felt strange about going back in several weeks later. Also while I was getting my haircut another gentleman was getting his cut for the first time there and I heard him say to his stylist that he hated going to places like sportscuts because they always do a bad job, to which the stylist responded that everyone starts there and she spent several years at a place like that herself. While I don't doubt that this is true, I found it strange that you would get defensive and admit to someone while you're cutting their hair that the last place you worked was the place he hated going. Overall my experience left me feeling that this wasn't as high of quality as I was expecting based on the reviews. However, perhaps if I had had someone with more experience it would have been different, but I won't be going back to find out. read more
