Due to Covid, I've put off a lot of my normal self-maintenance. I finally decided to take a leap of faith and get my hair done. I wanted to do something fresh and new to my hair, so I researched Glastonbury salons and the services offered. Reading all reviews on social media outlets, Salon 22 was the one. I'm let down, but more so sad of the investment of my time and money. My entire experience wasn't all negative and I want to break it down. Positives: The interior of the salon was clean and all of the staff practiced great infection control/safety measures. My stylist was always very pleasant and I really enjoyed our conversations. The biggest positive was the response to my concern that my hair was not what I initially wanted after being charged twice for each visit. After leaving the salon and feeling defeated, I decided to call and speak to the Salon Coordinator. Jennifer, the Salon Coordinator was very professional and expressed genuine concern of how I was feeling. She offered to speak to the owner and my stylist about my concerns and have someone get back to me. Negative: My stylist didn't listen or acknowledge what I wanted to do with my hair. During our phone conversation after my second visit, she admitted that she should have been more upfront with me about not being able to accomplish what I wanted. I would have rather have her be honest with me than have me go through the process I did. She really danced around the fact that my hair color wouldn't come out the way I wanted. To be fair, I have dark brown hair and wanted to an ash brown/blonde. My first application of balayage wasn't what I wanted, but I liked it. I was charged for a "full head" of balayage my first visit and a "partial" balayage my second visit. I left my second visit feeling ugly and defeated. My color looked cheap and didn't represent what I wanted in the slightest. My third visit, which was provided at no cost basically was a glaze/toner application. I showed my stylist, again a picture of what I considered to be more of a doable color. I was at an orangey/golden blonde at my ends and more red towards my roots. At the end of it all, walked out with a dark brown with some red streaks. At the end of it all, I felt like it was a sick joke. I left my third and final visit feeling better than I did previously. I still felt defeated and worse about myself than when I started. I feel like if I spent an additional couple of hundred dollars there, I still wouldn't have gotten what I wanted. If I had gotten what I wanted or relatively close, then I would have justified the hundreds of dollars I spent. Edit: Per the response of Suzann, the owner- I am saddened. My stylist was great and is talented, her work shows on her other clients. In my instance, it didn't. My third visit would not have been an option if I had not made that outreach. The lack of concern and response from the owner is poor. I commend all the efforts made by my stylist and Jennifer. It is clearly indicated in the response. read more

When my stylist Malerie started working at Salon 22 I followed and I am glad I did. Not just because she is a exceptional colorist and stylist but also because I love coming to Salon 22. The space is tastefully decorated, clean, and their stylists are professional while providing great customer service. I also highly recommend Malerie who has been great at keeping this redhead red for so many years, squeezing me in on a moment's notice and knowing when I decide I want bangs that it's "probably not a good idea". I have been a client of hers for several years and hope to continue this trend for many years at Salon 22. The location of Salon 22 might be a bit hard to find for some first timers to find, so make sure you go behind the shopping plaza where Harry's Pizza is located. Upon entry you will be transported to a sense of calm and if not they have several different types of beverages to help you relax. And should you decide before you leave that you are down to your last squeeze of that perfect styling product - Salon 22 will be able to help you replenish your supply with a wide array of products. Glastonbury has many, many hair salons - but if you are looking to try something new, give Salon 22 a try. I think I will be a client of theirs for a long time. read more

Very poor service. Poor quality. No professionalism. Spoke with the owner/manager and it went nowhere. She regurgitates the same responses to complaints online via email when you email respond to her message to your complaint - yuck. I would not recommend going to such a poorly run establishment. They have no professionalism and are low quality. I do not recommend them at all. read more

Okay I have upgraded this to a 5 star place. Why? Because I have gone back a few more times and am still impressed. My haircut lasted a very long time. . That's the difference between a good cut and a freakin great cut--it looks fab growing out (my hair grows really fast). The customer service once again was wonderful. They really take care of you and the atmosphere is just right and relaxing. Just know that you might have to leave a message on the answering machine because they will not abandon the client to answer the phone. When you are there, you come first. Actually I have been checking around and their prices are comparable to most of the other salons in town. I had no idea. Anyway, give them a try. They really listen to what you want and do not push products on you or try to lacquer you with hairspray on your way out the door. read more

I had my hair cut there a month back, and I was very disappointed with the quality of the cut. I asked for long layers in a bob, and the stylist gave me way-too-short layers. I don't think she was listening very carefully; I said "long layers" about 3 or 4 times while in the chair. My "long layers" were only about 3 inches from my scalp on a bob that was past my chin. It looked dated, kind of mushroomy, and not very sophisticated. I have been living with it for about a month, and it did not grow out well (even though I was dying for it to GROW!). I have been going to Salon 22 for quite a while now and decided it was definitely time to write a review. First, the customer service is always wonderful! The front desk is always warm and welcoming. I never feel rushed or that I am a bother when trying to schedule a cut and color 8 to 9 weeks out. They always do their best to be very accommodating. It's very refreshing to walk into a salon knowing that you will always be greeted with a friendly face and a smile! Regarding the cut and color, I have NEVER been disappointed! My stylist always takes the time to go over exactly what I want and always makes sure that she understands exactly what I want. She will go over pictures with me and never makes me feel rushed because she might have another appointment after mine. I can always go at least 8 weeks with my cut and it still looks great and that is how you can tell you have a great cut and stylist! I think the prices are very reasonable considering the location and the quality of service and styling. The atmosphere of the entire salon is fantastic! The entire staff goes out of their way to take care of you and I highly recommend this salon to anyone! read more

I have been coming to get my hair highlighted and cut by Suzanne for years. She always does a fabulous job. She listens to what you want and will always politely tell you if she doesn't think something will work. She runs on time, too. I have had my hair done by some of the other girls in the salon when I was in a pinch and couldn't get in to see Suzanne. They are all talented. Went to Salon 22 for the first time on Saturday and had a great experience. First off, the salon is clean and has a modern design. They feature Aveda products which I love. I had Lily do a color and cut on my hair. She literally gave me exactly what I wanted which was an even all-over color, a trim, and a blow-dry. She even flat-ironed afterwards and added some curls that I requested, too! She kept asking if I was happy with the color and the cut. Both ladies also offered me refreshments throughout the entire service. The only negative I have is that I had to sit in the sun the entire appointment; it was nice at first because it definitely warmed you up, etc. but to have it in your eyes the entire time became irritating. I have been a customer for many years and couldn't be happier. I drive 45 min. To the salon, and it is certainly worth it. I have very challenging hair, fine, curly, frizzy and unmanageable . I have been going to Salon 22 for over a year now. I followed my hair dresser from The Hair Color Company in West Hartford and without a doubt I can say that this salon is a major upgrade in every facet. From the first time I walked through the doors I immediately felt welcome and loved the friendly environment. Every hairstylist, as well as the owner, go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience with every visit. They use top quality products and I have never had to go back because I was unhappy with my color or cut. The prices are also very competetive and actually much cheaper than the overpriced salons that you pay simply on location... (cough) Salon Medusa. When my own hairdresser was out on maternity leave, I went to another stylist who performed my regular cut and color to a T. I knew I was in good hands. I rarely review on Yelp, but this experience deserves it. I found this gem of a place online today after looking through websites (&reviews) of other places. I called around and Salon 22 was the only one that could accommodate me at the last minute. FIrst impressions count for a lot and stepping into the space immediately relaxed me after a long day at work. It's a light and airy space, tastefully decorated with a spa-like ambiance. I was immediately offered refreshments (which included wine). Lily was my stylist and I couldn't compliment her enough on how she handled my hair. She asked good questions and made suggestions to make sure the cut would be what I wanted. She was personable, pleasant and a good conversationalist. Before I knew it, my hair was done and I was the happiest I've been stepping out of a salon. The service is so reasonably priced too. I've found "my" salon and stylist!
