I can't believe how deplorable this salon is.... Me and my fiance booked an appointment for a hair and makeup trial for myself and a hair styling trail for him just ahead of our wedding. My fiance had long, curly hair which is why he wanted it styled the day of our wedding. When booking our appointment, I made mention of my fiance's long hair and how he would like a styling. The day of the trial, I was sat on one side of the salon and my fiance at the other. While I got my hair and makeup done, my fiance's "stylist" conducted what she would later refer to as a "Thorough consult" where my fiance related to her that he wears his hair long, would like to keep the length, I myself cut it a week prior to the length he wanted it and he was happy with it, and that he is prone to some frizziness on the side that he was hoping to mitigate the day of the wedding. This "stylist" asked my fiance to remove his glasses and proceeded to cut every inch of length off of my fiance's hair, even buzzing behind his ears. My fiance, sans glasses, couldn't see what she was doing and didn't realize the severity of the cut until it was too late. Once I was done with my hair and makeup and saw what was done to my fiance, and upon realizing he would not look like his normal self in our wedding photos without his signature long hair, I cried the makeup right off my face. I cried all night. I immediately contacted Top Level Salon and told them about my experience. As this is not what my fiance wanted or asked for, and I didn't get to see how my makeup looked with my dress due to crying it off before I got home, mixed with the fact that the curls in my hair fell out by the time I got the mile and a half home, I asked for a refund for the cost of my fiance's "service" and to see if I could get a new trial, free of charge. The owner who did my hair and makeup was dodgy, long to respond, and while offering for me to come back in, didn't even acknowledge my refund request. I asked several times and nothing. After finally saying I wasn't comfortable with how she was dodging me, I didn't want to come in for a repeat trial. She responded, somehow surprised, and refunded me for my fiance's "service". I followed up saying I also wanted a refund for my "service" now that I was uncomfortable with how she conducted herself, and SHE NEVER RESPONDED. This coward and her staff cannot own up to the fact that the "service" we received left us worse off than before we entered their "business". We disputed with the credit card company to which they replied they'd "done nothing wrong." Stay away from these disgusting thieves before they change the way you get to remember your most precious memory and stiff you your hard-earned money to do it. read more

Naomi did a phenomenal job on my hair! My hair looks so luxurious and expensive!! She is truly an expert in hair care and color and she really understands the art of undertones and hair color. Super happy with my hair. She spent a lot of time teaching me and adjusting my hair color so that it came out perfect!! I'm super happy. Definitely going to be a repeat customer for sure. I was walking around West Hartford when I saw their sign on the sidewalk and thought to myself, 'I'm gonna color my hair for the first time today!!!' Lucky me, they could pencil me in as a walk-in and I was sitting in the chair 20 minutes later. Elise (who I just found out is also the owner) was amazing. She listened to what I was looking for yet also made artistic suggestions because I was pretty uncertain. I came in with a few pictures for ideas too, which helped. We agreed on doing a more subtle, honey balayage look that transitions really well into my natural color. So careless and unprofessional. I know we need money on these desperate times but for the amount of money I spent it's ridiculous what my hair looks like, oh and I had to walk out with wet hair! Getting excited for my first post-Corona haircut so wanted to write long overdue review for Elise and her salon. I moved to West Hartford in the Fall of 2019 and was not happy with first salon that I found; flash forward to early March when I needed a cut and researched local salons on Yelp. The Top Salon website is well done, reviews amazing for all stylists so I called and was able to see Elise that day...which turned out to be the last week salons were open before Covid-19 hot. Elise listened to what I was Ted and gave me a beautiful cut that I still get comments on in May...it was that well done. I've been here twice within the past month. Once for a Brazilian blowout; at that appointment I had scheduled enough time for a color, the blow out, and a cut. The girl basically told me I couldn't get the color I wanted (blonde), okay whatever that was fine but at the end of it completely dismissed the hair cut and didn't trim my hair at all. This time around I went in to get highlights to lighten my hair up and a hair cut. First of all, this woman asked if my hair was "box dyed" when she was the one who dyed it JUST three weeks ago. Not a good sign. Secondly, I showed a picture of a woman with nice choppy layers and a long side bang. This girl basically gave me a bob with regular bangs. No side bang, just plain out regular straight line SHORT bangs across my forehead. When she turned me around to face the mirror I literally looked like I had gotten a bowl cut. The girl didn't even run a straightener through my hair after the blowout just left it poofy looking a whole mess. I've never been so embarrassed. I will never go back here. I should add the entire salon is small and needs a huge deep cleaning. It looks like none of them care. read more

I am SO disapointed by this salon and I wont be back. I called them to have my hair washed (the reason for having my hair cleaned as opposed to cleaning + brushing is irrelevant to this review). I called them at 6:30 pm and asked them if I can come in 5 min (they close at 7). The lady that answered the phone said no, come tomorrow. I told her i am working tomorrow and hence cannot come, plus washing hair takes 5 min. She then ran it by the manager and told me "ok but make sure to come in 5 min". She made it sound as if they were making me a favor and she hesitated so much. I dont understand 1-Why. It is their duty to serve customers until 7 AND hair washing takes literally 5 min. That being said, I arrived at 6:40 and my hair was washed (not that well, because the hairdresser nails were extremely long- unprofessional but okay). The hairdresser made it clear that she was in a rush and she wont be able to blowdry it (not even quickly). As soon as she finished washing it, she started turning the lights off What kind of respectable business LOOK at their watch to serve their customers ??? unbelievable!! Last but not least, I went to pay expecting a 5$ fee for a bare shampoo. And their answer was 20$ 20$ for a shampoo. Yes for wet hair. No comment. Useless to say that it will be the last time that i will come to this place. They (beautifully) lost a valuable customer. read more

The staff is down to earth, friendly and professional! My color was beautiful and my cut was exactly what I asked for! She is reasonably priced and will not upsell u on something you do not need! I feel relaxed and at home in her salon. She has a young and cutting edge staff that is up to date on hair and makeup! I met Elise when she was working at another salon, and she was by far, the most talented stylist there. I knew when she left to open her own place that I had to stay a loyal costumer. She did my hair and makeup for my shower and wedding, and of course, it was amazing. Been here a few times. Got tape in extensions the color match was completely off. Made an apt to get them out over 2 months in advance. I got a call to confirm. Upon confirming just days prior I was told that they didn't have an apt for me and they would be closed the following week. Didn't even try to make another appointment with me. Now I have to find some place else in a very short period of time do the extension process due to an error in their scheduling system. Do not recommend if you have an event that you need something by a certain date. Not very flexible at all. read more

I just had the best hair styling experience ever. I needed a highlight (having just had my hair cut elsewhere), and I found Top Level Salon in West Hartford, CT, via Yelp. Stylist Gregory Adams highlighted my hair, and I think it looks the best it has ever looked! The salon is great, small and intimate, and all of the stylists have very classical, modern styles, themselves (usually something I look for when I go to a new salon). Gregory also provided much needed advice about how to care for my hair after getting highlights. I was truly impressed with Gregory's artistic ability and the entire experience. read more

I was recommended to Elise by a customer of mine that I complimented. I thought why not. I made an appt. I immediately felt comfortable. Everyone was friendly and I was offered tea or coffee. I told her some of my issues with my hair. She was really receptive and offered several very well thought out suggestions. I loved my new color and highlights and especially the cut. I can never seem to get one person to do both well. The price was fair and reasonable. I have been back many times. I love that each time I leave it is a slightly different look but what I had asked for along with her creative genius. I have sent several people to her and they were thrilled. This is actually my very first review . I thought about it all weekend and figured if I can save 1 girl from making MY MISTAKE . I say mine , because it was ultimately, my fault I guess . My stylist was very friendly , Michelle . She spent a good amount of time on my hair (about 3 hours) my hair is was light brown , with red highlights . We are getting into the nice weather , so I was ready for my deep rich blonde highlights . Well , let's just say my hair is a shade lighter (lightest brown ) and the blonde highlights , well They were just not left in long enough , and I feel it was because my stylist was triple booked . I've had blonde highlights several times , so I know my hair takes to the color , I know blonde us a process , and to get my desired results I would have to come back in about a month , and have them lighten it more .so I know for a fact it was because they just were not left in long enough . Now I hate bringing up single mom bla bla bla crap , but I am . I don't get out to the salon often , as my full time employment funds are pretty tied up to rent , and all the other things we need . But every spring , I put away a little money to spring my hair out of its misery . Now had I only spent 100, 150 bucks , and did not like my results , I'd eat it up , and would not be writing this . I paid 260.00. (120 highlight (that were not there ) and u know , the color UNDER the highlights , trim , wash , and blowdry . Michelle had another client, it was prom week , everyone was busy . I walked out in tears. I wish I went back and asked why . But like slit of people in my position , I put my head down , told her I liked it , and walked away . Word of advice ... Michelle told me it was going to be 120 plus a few extras . But really ? For this ? I feel like I was robbed . What upsets me the most was how she thought my hair was actually worth being charged close to 300 bucks ? My conscious would never deem that acceptable . The least I would have done was have my costumer come back . I feel obliged to write this , especially since I only left a 25.00 tip , which if my hair was the color I wanted , 50.00 easy. I have been taking my 19 year old daughter to get her hair cut with Elise for around 3 years now. She is on the autism spectrum -- mild end -- and like many on the spectrum, she can be blunt. If she doesn't like something, she isn't shy about saying so! She went from thin, shoulder length, wavy dirty blonde hair to an adorable pixie cut. Eventually, she wanted to go lavender and Elise did a beautiful job coloring it. We now color it ourselves at home (more economical), but we still go to Elise for her cut.
