Phil is just as amazing with cuts and styling--he knows exactly how to work with my hair and I always leave feeling confident and put together. What really sets this salon apart is the atmosphere. Philippe is the best hair stylist I have ever had. His precision is next to none. It is very hard to find talented stylists for male haircuts, and he has truly set the standard. He is an excellent listener and remembers every time. It is hard to find stylists who care what their customers have to say and pay serious attention to what they want. I don't like writing negative reviews, especially for a local business, but I feel that I don't have another option. I made a haircut appointment with Phillipe last month because I was about to head out for a month-long vacation, as well as having a couple of big events coming up in the next couple of months. I explained to Phillipe that I had not been happy with the stylist I had been seeing because he kept thinning out my hair with thinning shears, which I do not like. I have short hair, but I had let it grow a little bit so that Phillipe would have something to work with. I told Phillipe that in addition to my upcoming vacation, I had a couple of big events in a couple of months, and that I needed to figure out how I wanted to wear my hair. Phillipe had cut my hair several times pre-COVID, and I just hadn't been back to him since. But, I was now looking for someone I could trust to give me a good haircut. I showed him several pictures of long pixie-style haircuts, including one that he had given me a few years ago and that I loved. I explained that I wanted length on top--I do NOT like short, choppy layers, and I expressed that several times. The pictures I showed him all had longer layers on the top. He kept holding up the top pieces and asking, "you want this to be long?" I couldn't understand why he kept asking that when I had already told him several times that I wanted the top to be longer and had shown him pictures with longer layers on top. He also kept asking how many different people had cut my hair since my last haircut appointment because I told him that I had trimmed it in a few places and that my hair colorist had trimmed it for me. I didn't understand why this made a difference, but he asked this several times. He finally said, "I think you want a pixie." And, I said, "yes, a LONG pixie." So he went to work. I closed my eyes while he was cutting, and when I opened after he had finished one side, I was SHOCKED to see how short he had cut my hair--it was short and choppy all over. At that point, I had no option but to let him finish the rest of the cut. I knew it was short, but I was hoping that it was at least a decent cut that would grow out well. However, this has honestly been the worst haircut I have ever had. It has now been 3 weeks since I've had it cut, and it doesn't look any better. The pieces on top towards the back of my head are still sticking straight up. And, I have two basically bald spots where he cut the hair so short that it doesn't even cover my scalp. This is not a cute pixie cut--it's a complete hack job. The layers do not blend together--it is just short and choppy all over. There is absolutely no style to this cut. We are on a very nice vacation, and I've had to wear a baseball cap everywhere we go because I'm so embarrassed and horrified of this haircut. And, I now have two major events that are less than 2 months away, and I have no hope that my hair will be at a length where anything can be done to make it look decent. This is NOT what I expected from the owner of a high-end salon--one who charges $165 for a haircut. I would have gotten a better haircut at Haircuttery. I would advise anyone considering a short haircut to steer clear of this salon. read more

I'm having a hard time articulating my experience at this place, but I feel the need to make this review to warn future clients. My colorist/dye person seemed very inexperienced based on the results of my head. She put Saran Wrap in my hair instead of tin foil, she burned my scalp really bad, the colors she put in my hair bled everywhere and created a mess of ugly blonde colors. She gave me very little time with her and just seemed to be in a rush for her break which is fine, but to not even see how the color looked afterwards is completely awful. Not only is this salon beautifully put together- a modern flair with all the latest products- but the men and women that work here are truly the salt of the earth and come across as one big happy family. I especially love Julie. Such a sweet woman and easy to connect with, not to mention talented. Not many times have I gone into a salon and not encountered a bit of pretentiousness. However, with this salon, the experience is all but pretentious. They are welcoming and accommodating. Not only are they great at what they do- but they truly love what they do as well. Yesterday, I cried tears of joy for the amazing fix Greta gave my hair! This is my go to salon from now on! I had been a happy customer at Salon Bisoux for a few years; then a new salon in town asked me to give the new colorist a try. DISASTER ensued. I saw my healthy, golden blonde hair turned RED, then dark brown with horrid layers. I wasn't myself. I was washed out; both in beauty and happiness! Thank goodness for Greta and Val, who gave me my look back and restored my hair (and self esteem) while keeping it healthy!! Don't be fooled--Salon Bisoux is the only spot in town that really knows how to balayage!!! I will forever be a grateful, loyal customer!!! Michelle has saved my hair from the ugly untamed look that would have happened had I not gone to her for the Yuko straightening. Back story: Finding this in Boston is difficult (since it snows 5 months out of the year), but I did have it done 11-12 years ago and LOVED IT. The first time was great, the second was not as the woman who did it did the treatment on my entire head, a Yuko no-no (only do the re-growth!!!). As a result, my hairdresser banned Yuko from my hair (she did not do it, obviously) and we started a decade of keratin (didn't work so well) and straightening treatments. I need BOTH straight and smooth, and many treatments will do one or the other. So I looked around DC, pretty much the HQ of bad hair weather. After looking for about a month (really), I contacted Yuko's office and while they told me they cannot recommend a salon, they could tell me who orders a lot of the products. They referred me to Salon Bisoux and I made an appointment for a consultation. Michelle took a good look at my hair, asked what was in it now (a Rusk straightening treatment from 11 months prior) and I pleaded for help as my daily flat ironing was making it sleek, but I felt as though 1/3 of my head had split ends from the flat ironing (it is a vicious cycle). After confirming that Yuko was compatible with what was in my hair, we did a trial run with a strand test, which still took a couple of hours. After confirming two days later that all was good, I was ready for the appointment to get the rest of my hair done, which was no easy task since she was doing only the hair that had grown in over the last 12 months, not everything at the ends that already had been straightened. This is the difference between someone who knows what they are doing and a cheap place that will apply everything to your entire head (perhaps several of the "deals" advertised on Groupon and Living Social). It is your hair, and if you want it done right, make the investment!! My hair is surviving the humidity, a short blow-dry after washing it leaves it nice and smooth... and straight. Michelle is great, so if you are considering the Yuko, go and see her! The salon itself is lovely (without being snooty), everyone who works there is really sweet, and I had one of the best head massages of my life from the nice younger guy (wish I knew his name) who washed my hair. read more

Where to start in this review?!?! My total experience with this salon was unprofessional, awkward and stressful. This was my first and last experience with this salon. Do not recommend them at all, would go to sports clips before going back there. I will admit I was late to my appointment, I also called ahead to let them know I would be late because of a meeting. They assured me it wasn't an issue and it was ok. As I was pulling up and parking at the time I told them I would be there they were calling to cancel. When I walked I apologize for being late, there I met my stylist for the first time and I could see on her face she was less than pleased with the delay. The whole time I felt as if I was inconveniencing them, not welcomed and rushed. I asked for a "professional business/CEO" style for male. Told my stylist Val, what I wanted and it looked as if I was confusing here. I asked to start longer and we can work to shorter hair as we progress. She was less then thrilled about this, it was like she couldn't cut my hair fast enough to get me out of the chair and to her "regular". When the cut was finish I feel as if I had to leave right away, she didn't ask how I wear my hair and she styled it how she wanted it. I went to the pay stationed paid my $75 plus tip and left. As I was walking to my truck I took off my hat and looked in the mirror, the style was similar to "Moe"from the "The Three Stooges" my bangs and style were so off and awkward looking. I did go back for the style and cut to be corrected, again I apologized. Tho told Val what my issues was with the cut, she stated "well it's made to slicked back and that's how I explained it." I just sad ok and could it be fixed so I don't look as if I have a curled handle bar mustache on my forehead. As I look at my hair now it's still wrong, sides are not even, hair on the neck and just looks off. This place is over priced and does not live up to its reputation. I was in the nervous situation of having loved the work of my artist in Atlanta and so fearful I could not replace her here in D.C. Krista was THE balayage artist recommended to me by many to whom I spoke and 5 years later, I am still getting gorgeous balayage from her. Philippe provides stylish cuts that look great for weeks and the Kerastase products make your hair look so shimmery and healthy it's actually addicting...you just can't go back to any other product. I see Philippe - he's AMAZING! I saw him right before covid for a long layered shag cut. I haven't seen him since. My hair STILL looks great!!! THAT'S how good his cuts are!! But it was time to go back in, because it was just too long. So, I went in, scared because of the covid... and I had NOTHING to fear! The measures they are taking to keep us, and their staff, safe were AMAZING. I'm a cancer survivor so I'm SUPER careful about where I go and what I do. I felt totally safe! And now my hair looks AMAZING again!! (But seriously, his layers lasted 9 months!!!!!) I'll be going back for more regular trims because of how seriously they are taking the pandemic and I feel totally fine going there now. Fabulous salon - best color (Inoa and balayage) and cuts I've had in my life, including high end salons on both coasts over decades. Krista (owner) and Val are my primary go-tos for color and cuts, but I've been to everyone and they all are fantastic - Philippe (owner) and Michelle for cuts and April for color. Whoever said "Beauty is Pain" has never been to Salon Bisoux. (1) Every facet of my visit was a pleasure. While Krista applied my highlights, someone brought me a fabulous cappuccino (with a piece of chocolate on the side) and then Kathleen came over and gave me a hand massage. My highlights came up very quickly and luckily Julie was able to fit me in for a cut. I was not ready to leave. Just so we're clear on what a breakthrough this was; I hadn't had a haircut in well over a year. And that haircut was done by Binh at the Cartoon Cuts at Fair Oaks Mall (2) as part of a mommy & me makeover. Salons were not my thing but I guess now I have to find a new Not-thing. I will say this: beauty does not come cheap. Figure like a car payment, assuming you also drive a cheap station wagon with a 5 year loan. But seriously my hair has never NEVER looked this good. This morning when I got up and looked in the mirror, I smiled (and I am not a morning smiler) and then woke up all three of my kids and ordered them to admire my hair. They hid it well with all their complaining, but I could tell they were also impressed. My daughter said I looked ten years younger - but then named an age that was so far off base that I better finish this review & start surfing Yelp for math tutors. 1) It's entirely possible that's not a real quote but just something my mother would say when I was little and she brushed my hair. After 20 years, my former hairstylist from D.C. moved home to Mississippi so I went looking for a new salon closer to home. Changing stylists after two decades is daunting but I believe I couldn't have made a better pick with Salon Bisoux. Honestly, I have thought for a bit about whether to write this review, but two months out from the worst haircut I have ever had, I really want to save someone from the headache I went through. My reticence in writing this was that the owners of the salon, Phillips and Krista, were very understanding and tried their best to make the situation right. They refunded me (though, i did really have to insist after Krista said they "didn't typically do that" and tried to offer me gift cards instead) and Phillips blow dried my hair several times for free to make it look semi ok when I had to go out in public. However, as I mentioned, it's been two months and my hair is a constant nuisance for me every single day and honestly it's embarrassing. It looks awful. I went to get my hair colored here several times, and always had a fantastic experience. Ironically, I have never really had a "bad" haircut - I have lived and cut my hair in many large cities and small towns alike. I have gone to expensive "name" salons in Manhattan and the hair cuttery in my small college town, and never had a really awful cut. So I never spent on the haircut at this place because it was pretty expensive and i had someone who did a great job at a salon that was about a quarter of the price. Why I didn't go back to her, no idea. However post covid, with two young boys at home, I wanted to "treat" myself and got my hair cut and colored at this nice salon. Big mistake. I went to someone recently to look at it and offer advice for fixing it (at a different salon obviously). My hair is thick and wavy. I asked for no layers and when the stylist thought I should add some in, I said, specifically "I don't like the look of them, but sometimes I have had very long layers in the past that work". Well... to quote the person who looked at my hair (again it's been two months since this cut...), the top layer of my hair is about 7 inches shorter than the longest layer. The longest layer was still way shorter than I asked. So basically I have layers that stop around the middle of my ear (!!) and then the rest of the cut is a few inches past my collarbone. Even if I style it very very very hard (which I don't typically have the time to do) it looks absolutely ridiculous. Truly, it is embarrassing and no amount of free blow dries can help the fact that it looks so awful. I think the icing on the cake for me was when I went in to have the salon owner look at my hair, I saw the stylist who did this, she was right next to me. She knew how awful a cut it was (I honestly was way too nice about it and tried to let her "fix" it which probably made it worse) and she literally didn't say a word or offer any apology. Not great, as this is pretty distressing and just doesn't show any respect for the client. Save yourself and don't go here. It will take probably a year for my hair to grow out and look normal after this (no exaggeration, that's the average rate of hair growth). There are many other very expensive salons that won't completely destroy your hair in the process. read more

This place is great! I have been researching various salons in the area during COVID-19 to see what they were doing for safety measures after they reopened. Salon Bisoux is doing everything right, and it is all posted on their website. I felt very safe and comfortable during my visit. They took my temperature when I arrived, asked me to wash my hands, they were spacing out the stylists as well as staggering shifts to ensure there weren't too many people in the salon at one time. Jacob did a great job cutting and styling my hair. He was so friendly and took the time to show me how to trim my bangs in-between visits. Would 100% recommend this place. read more

Philippe is my go to stylist from now on because he is an artist who takes the time to do his job well. I have been going to Krista and Philippe for about 3 years now, ever since I asked them to cut my daughters' hair to donate to Wigs for Kids, which they graciously agreed to where other salons did not. They even made a really big deal and made my two girls feel extra special for donating 11 inches each. The owners, Krista & Phillipe have created a beautiful space, with exceptionally talented stylists, colorists, esthetician/manicurist, and support team. Whether at the reception counter, or on the phone, the ladies always greet me with enthusiasm, take the time to have a conversation, and make me feel remembered/welcome. I have long, thick, naturally curly hair that historically has been colored poorly, and cut with no style in mind. Krista's talent and experience as a colorist is apparent with each client that has the . Typically she has used a tint, and balayage to give my natural curls depth and texture. I have thick, long naturally curly hair, which really must be colored differently than straight hair. I always receive compliments on my color after seeing her. I was a regular here for awhile, but doubt I will ever go back for just a cut. I don't color my hair (yet!), but I have heard good things about their colorists, so might give them a try for that when it is time. I've had cuts by Philippe, Michelle and Roxana. Sometimes I liked them, other times I did not, but even the ones I liked were not good enough to justify the price. My formerly straight hair is now curly in parts. As a mom to a toddler and a baby, I don't always have time to style my hair, so I always asked for a cut that would help my hair look the best as "wash and go". I realize of course that they can't perform magic, your hair is what it is. However, I now go to a different salon with a stylist who knows how to cut curly hair, and who has been able to teach me a lot. So, perhaps some training on and expertise on cutting curly hair would be good. As for the "pampering," it kind of always missed the mark for me, and again did not justify the price (and I don't mind paying for true pampering). Drinks were always offered, but frequently were forgotten, so I went without or had to ask again. I almost always had to wait past my appointment time, and even the hair washing station had its flaws (I once got soaked during the process). None of this would be so awful if I wasn't paying $135 for a haircut. For that price, I pretty much expect perfection from start to finish.
