I was a regular here for awhile, but doubt I will ever go back for just a cut. I don't color my hair (yet!), but I have heard good things about their colorists, so might give them a try for that when it is time. I've had cuts by Philippe, Michelle and Roxana. Sometimes I liked them, other times I did not, but even the ones I liked were not good enough to justify the price. My formerly straight hair is now curly in parts. As a mom to a toddler and a baby, I don't always have time to style my hair, so I always asked for a cut that would help my hair look the best as "wash and go". I realize of course that they can't perform magic, your hair is what it is. However, I now go to a different salon with a stylist who knows how to cut curly hair, and who has been able to teach me a lot. So, perhaps some training on and expertise on cutting curly hair would be good. As for the "pampering," it kind of always missed the mark for me, and again did not justify the price (and I don't mind paying for true pampering). Drinks were always offered, but frequently were forgotten, so I went without or had to ask again. I almost always had to wait past my appointment time, and even the hair washing station had its flaws (I once got soaked during the process). None of this would be so awful if I wasn't paying $135 for a haircut. For that price, I pretty much expect perfection from start to finish. I've been going to Salon Bisoux for years now and love the staff there! I've been lucky enough to have my hair colored by both Krista and April who always take time to understand what I'm looking for and let me know the best way to get there. They've taken me from red to blonde and back again and I get compliments on all of them! My stepdaughter also loves the balayage that Greta did for her! Michelle and Roxana are incredible stylists that make sure I always look great when I leave and Val created an amazing updo for me for a special event! There is only one word to sum up my experience at Salon Bisoux...meh. I went at the suggestion of a friend because my normal stylist is on maternity leave and was disappointed. When I arrived they were having some sort of police issue. Here was one cop and a person standing outside yelling and a police officer inside talking to the owner. I had to ask the owner to move so that I could get to the reception desk, not a great situation to walk into. I was then asked back to my appointment and they explained there was a man that wouldn't leave in the salon, not their fault but you would think the owner would have said something to explain. He was there, it was my first time at the place and they made no effort to explain the very odd situation. Other than that I had highlights by Greta who was nice. The color is average and looks chunky, I asked for a gloss that my normal stylist does and she said I didn't need it, the resulting color is definitely lackluster. The worst part of my experience was the shampoo. I have long straight hair and after the shampoo and before conditioning they tried to brush it out with a wire brush. I told them that my hair tangled easily and needed conditioner before brushing but they insisted and even had another girl come over to help brush it out. They both tore at my tangled hair for almost a half hour. It was extremely painful and you could hear my hair ripping to pieces! After that I went to cut. I wanted a trim for my long hair with a few face framing layers in the front. My cut ended up extremely blunt, a look I very much dislike. It's not horrible but I'm going in somewhere else to get it corrected. The people were nice but definitely not the quality I'm used to. read more

Buyer beware. Let me first preface this review by saying I take full responsibility and it's not a reflection on the quality of hair cuts. My son has a longer hair style. Nothing complicated. Just a longer bang that goes to the side, not the typical 5 year old short cut. We just moved to the area so I have been looking for a reliable place to get his hair done. I stupidly went to a barber and his hair was butchered so I had to bring him to a salon to get fixed. This salon is a few minutes from my house so I booked the appointment out i convenience. The price list does say- Children's cut priced by stylist. That's where I made the mistake. I should have asked but I didn't so I ended up paying FIFTY DOLLARS PLUS TIP for a not quite five year old haircut. And she had the scissors to his head for maybe 15 minutes. I learned my lesson and just wanted to share. That's just ridiculous. read more

Phillipe (one of the owners and "master stylist") is way too snooty, but some of the other stylists are nicer. Although, I couldn't believe the way Roxana treats her clients. Sitting next to her chair was like overhearing a mental bashing of the poor folks getting snipped. All around Basic Skills, nothing amazing. The look and feel of the salon is lovely - bright and airy, though it could be kept a bit cleaner. I have never given a salon this rating but my experience was truly terrible. I had one other cut with Ruth, who did a great job and gave me wonderful layers that grew out perfectly. When I called to get another cut, she was gone and they sugggested Philippe, and given his experience, I thought it would be fine. I asked for a LONG BOB. I was very clear about my boundaries being not too short, not cutting it above my ears, and still long enough to have a short ponytail. My hair was below my bra strap and this would have meant cutting 6-7 inches, maybe 8 if he did it shorter. He told me he would not cut it longer than my bangs, which were below my chin. During the haircut, I asked him 3 separate times to explain what he was doing, why it was so short, and all he said was "trust him". He started in the back, so i could not see how much he was cutting and when I asked to see it on the floor, he told me to wait, then had the lady sweep it up so I couldn't see it. In the end, he gave me a pixie cut with a mullet. I told him I hated it and that he had cut it far shorter than I was ever comfortable with or that we had discussed. He then told me that it was silly to cry over my hair, which I thought was very condescending as he had cut almost 15 inches from the back of my hair, hair that if I was willing to part with could have been donated. Then the manager called me a couple days later to ask how I felt because she noticed I had not paid for the cut at that time. I told her I hated it and that I had spent over $500 getting it fixed at a different salon and that I would not pay for the cut. I told her he blew through my boundaries and then was just plain mean when I said I did not like the cut. She told me she would call me back and never did. Bottom line is BEWARE of what you ask for here, you may get champagne for free, but a cut you hate. read more

Granted, I wasn't getting much done here, so I can't critique my stylist's full skills. But the results of what I got done were less than impressive. This was my first time at Salon Bisoux. I just moved to the area and was looking for a new place. All I needed at this point were my bangs cut and a trim. So nothing fancy. I was charged $140. And then on top of that, she tried to upsell me a $40 10 oz bottle of shampoo. She was a little annoyed when I politely asked if she would recommend any other, cheaper products. I can't even remember my stylist's name, but all I asked for was a bang trim and to trim the split ends off my hair. $140 for this, I couldn't believe how expensive. Ok fine. But I asked for her to use shears so the ends don't look too blunt. She did the opposite. I just don't like that straight, blunt look. When I politely reminded her to use shears, she refused, saying that I won't have split ends with a blunt cut. Huh? I should have stuck up for myself, but I left it at that. I HATED how she trimmed my bangs. I asked for more of a side-swept style. She cut them straight across my forehead and left the ends closest to my ears, longer. It looked like a bowl cut. Ugh. Plus, she missed a lot of strands which were left hanging in my face. It took me awhile to trim them all and it still doesn't really look right, but I'm just going to wait until they grow out a little and then go somewhere else to get them done. I am not a picky person. If she had done this, but had done it well, I wouldn't have cared too much. The cut just did not suite my face. But it doesn't matter. I told her what I wanted and when I tried to insist- she refused. Who really does that? I should have refused to pay until she cut it the way I asked- but I didn't want to cause trouble. I'm really not happy with even the basic stuff, so I wouldn't go here for anything else. And the prices! The most expensive place I have been to by far. This place is overrated. read more

I chose this salon based on the yelp reviews and it was just OK. I received color and highlights which totaled almost $300, without tip!!!!!! After the service, many of my gray hairs were still poking through which was very disappointing. Additionally, the "color bar" does not give you a blow out which I found odd. I have lived in the Washington DC area for about 15 years. One can only imagine the number of salons that I have visited. I was desperate for change, as well as, a competent and creative colorist that can achieve blonde! Krista is amazing. Valarie, cut my hair. The two of them took the time to understand me! I have been looking for a place to get my hair cut and colored for a very long time and I have finally found both talented women under one roof :). I have had lots of different experiences through the years, some good and some not so good. Both Patricia and Julie took the time to truly listen to me and came up with the perfect plan that I was comfortable with. They are very knowledgable as well as thoughtful and attentive professionals. I have had some truly horrible color experiences lately, with my dark brown hair being almost bleached out and turning almost orange in places. When I started looking around for a new place to help fix it and return to my natural color, the Salon Bisoux reviews helped convince me to give them a try, and their shop is really close to my house too, as an added bonus. The excellent reviews were completely on point. April couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable, and she knew just what to do to help fix my mess of mismatched color hair and make it look healthy and more natural again, which other colorists had told me they couldn't do. And, I had even been scheduled to get a balyage the next day, but after consulting with both April and Krista they agreed I didn't really need it as some of my old color they were able to make richer added the more natural highlights for now. I feel like many salons would have pushed for the service to get more money, but I really appreciated that they were both honest with me about what was best for my hair. April is truly the best. Roxana also gave me an excellent cut -- exactly the length I asked for, great shaping around my face and long layers, and she added sideswept bangs exactly like I wanted with a blowout with lots of volume. She did a truly outstanding job. The whole salon experience and service there was just outstanding as well. From people taking me from place to place, refilling my water glass promptly (with cucumber water -- my favorite!) and a scrumptious latte, everything was so professional. When my sweater even got wet while washing my hair, they threw it in their dryer for me and it was toasty and dry when I finished! I will absolutely be back and I'm so glad I've found such an outstanding salon after searching for many, many years! read more

I only give them two stars because everyone is fairly friendly. You're welcomed from the start with smiles and kindness. Service should always be more than half of your experience. But my generous rating ends there. It was my poor decision to try them twice. After moving here a couple of years ago, I have been unable to get a good haircut and color. I have been on an endless quest to find a colorist/ stylist, no matter the cost. I have a beauty background, so I am admittedly everyone's worst critic, bouncing around from salon to salon wasting time and money every where I go. But I am willing to pay the money for a great job when I can find one. However, the road to get there has been filled with bad to barely mediocre results. Bisoux was even more of a heart breaking disappointment than the rest. After reading all of the great reviews, I decided to suck it up and pay the top dollar they were charging. I was pumped; I thought that I finally had found THE place. But alas, my first visit left me feeling luke-warm. My color was below average and my hair cut was slightly above average, neither following my requests to the tee. I had asked that I wanted to go darker to my natural dark blonde with a few highlights. Except, my blond highlights from a Bayalage treatment were uneven and brassy with a lopsided chunk right at my part, and the haircut was homely but acceptable. It was hard to choke down the $300 tab, but I am a firm believer that stylist and client have to form that symbiotic bond. There are only a lucky few to make that connection on their first visit. You need to get to know each other and really understand what the client wants and what the stylist perceives what the client wants and/or needs (not always the same). Then, it is up to the client to decide if the fit is right or time to cut the cord and move on. So, I decided to give it another try. I chalked my first experience up to not making that connection right away. Besides, everyone was very nice and welcoming. Not always a requirement in a pricey salon these days, as I have come to find out. My second visit was far worse. My highlights were turned into more of an all over blonde (what happened to "back to my natural dark blonde with highlights"!!), uneven with a line of demarcation from the last color, with shades ranging from orangey brown to yellow straw. Oh, and damaged to resemble it as well. My colorist Greta disappeared after the last test was done, where I was then quickly shampooed and escorted upstairs for my cut, never to be seen again. (In hindsight, I wonder if she knew that the color was going to be wretched...) My cut, again, was not as I wanted. Acceptable, willing to be seen in public, but certainly not worth $100... oh sorry, $110. For some reason, their prices increased $10 since my last visit. After walking out almost $400 poorer ($310 plus tips all around), I felt taken as a fool. What kind of salon would charge you $200 for a color that atrocious and let you walk out the door? For the next couple of days, I had my hand on the phone over and over again wanting to call and demand to have it corrected. But, in the end, I finally drove to Sally's, bought a bottle of toner and 20 volume developer to turn down the brass to hold me over until I can find another stylist. My conclusion was that if they did such a horrible job during the actual appointment, how can I guarantee that the correction would be any better? I decided to cut my losses and move on. I am happy that so many people have been able to find a fit there. I can only assume that A) the style they have is easy to cut, color, and maintain, or B) they wouldn't know a bad color vs. a good color and in the end no one is hurt. But I certainly cannot justify (nor afford) spending upwards of $400 for mediocre results. The champagne that they serve better have been Dom Perignon. read more

First off, I'm not huge into fashion or hair but I can still appreciate good work when I see it. These guys are fantastic. The atmosphere is phenomenal, and they go far out of their way to make you feel at ease. I left the military a few months ago and didn't really know what to do with my hair, so I let it grow out and went in to see Phillippe. I told him that I don't know much about hair but that I'm looking for a new more conservative style that's easy to maintain. Phillippe took a few minutes looking at my hair, measuring it and then went to work. I've never seen such attention to detail and creativity from a hair stylist before and was very pleased with the result. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair before. There was no pressure to buy 30 different products, Phillippe just told me the products he likes and would use for my hair and that was it, nothing more didn't even ask if I wanted to buy them, was just giving me information. The difference between a place like this, and your average run of the mill salon or chain salon company is very obvious. Definitely worth the 5 stars on yelp and definitely worth the money compared to other places. read more

"I hate hair salons. The smell of the chemicals the blow driers, constant and random chattering, the hefty prices and insignificant results drive me crazy", I was telling my friend P. " Why don't you try salon Bisoux she suggested timidly, knowing how difficult to please I was." I have been going to salon Bisoux for 3 months now and let me tell you why. First of all, this place is more of a lounge than a traditional hair place. They have everything from champagne and cappuccino to green tea and cucumber water. They have an upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs is for hair cuts, blow drying, downstair solely for coloring. Brilliant idea! The upstairs is fun, the downstairs, where I hang out, it's magical. No annoying ammonia smell, no self-important colorist, nor dramatically flamboyant personalities. Just a nice group of drop-dead gorgeous girls, lead by Krista, the most amazing colorist. Apart from her seductive light green gaze, she is a highly skilled, fast paced, entertaining, yet not overwhelming professional. She knows exactly what she is doing and she does it fast, saving you TIME, but not skipping on quality. She is just an amazingly accomplished woman, who inspires me through her passion, her being a mother of 3, a wife, a businesswoman, a fitness trainer, an elegant and disconcertingly natural beauty. And she knows how to pick her stuff. Everybody working in this place understands customer service. They are very professional, adorably kind, welcoming and terribly attractive. Overall, a joy to be around! Not only I no longer dread spending my time at a hair place, I no longer feel guilty for having left the other salon for no reason, nor despise myself for the only constant in my life, my disturbing vanity. I consider this place an oasis of indulgent luxury, an exotic mix of European glamour, combined with American beauty of know-how, a deluded touch of perfect Asian detail orientation and the joyous opulence of the Latin spirit. A place of diversity, of harmony with SPECTACULAR RESULTS! I love Krista for color and April for massaging my head while applying my treatments, but I have seen amazing results from Patricia, Julie, Greta, Michelle, and rumor has it that Patrick is awesome. He must be if he married gorgeous Krista ;-) I will check his hair skills out personally and will update this review as I go along. If you want the best hair in the DC area, go here. I have been having my hair cut and highlighted by this fantastic duo for over 15 years. Krista does the color, Phillipe does the cut. If they're not available, any one of their stylists is incredible. I followed Krista and Phillipe from Christophe to their new salon. I now live in Colorado and fly in to get my hair done by them. The Salon is very chic. All of the stylists are mentored by both Krista and Phillipe. Their new salon is lovely, and the attention to detail is evident everywhere. The receptionists are cheery and helpful. A cappuccino, champagne , tea, water is offered before you sit down. While you are getting services, different staff comes by to see if there is anything you need. If you want more cappuccino, water, whatever, they're there. A vast array of products to choose from before you depart. Their prices are comparable to other high end salons. I would put them in a category of high end salon, much like Paris or New York. Made an appointment with Phillippe (who I believe is the owner) based on positive reviews, which I am now sure are self-written or dictated. Nice ambience. The attention and cut though were just awful. I wonder whether Phillippe was ever a good hair stylist and got lazy or was always bad and just got away with it. Extremely nasty narcissist. I am so disappointed in choosing this salon that it took me a while to write this review. The location is nice, and that's as short as the list can be. I walked in to another customer arguing with the receptionist about their service... The shampoo was mediocre, as well as the latte. There was an incredibly long wait for my haircut, and a wait not worth wild. My haircut could have been done by anyone, and the stylist didn't leave an impression enough for me to remember their name. I did a little homework beforehand and perused their website and price points, then made my first appointment with Michelle. Needless to say, I have become a regular. Not only is their work top notch (and they use Keratase!), but their customer service is impeccable. From cappuccinos to chocolate, to a service oriented and friendly environment, I highly recommend Salon Bisoux. Salon Bisoux is truly worth 5 stars! I have been a client for few years and have always had wonderful haircuts and color (people stop me and ask where I get my hair cut and colored!) My favorite stylist Julie has moved on to greener pastures so I tried Kelly. I highly recommend Kelly. She listens, is precise and my hair cut is amazing (also my hair is very wavy and thick and not the easiest to cut and style). April did my color and also did an amazing job. The salon is gorgeous, staff is friendly and yes, take advantage of cappuccino, wine, champagne - all they offer. However, as other reviewers have noted this salon is not inexpensive but it the price of services is comparable with other high end salons in the DC area and I truly believe you get "what you pay for and beyond'! read more

Fabulous salon! The staff is gracious and efficient. They offer coffee, latte, espresso , etc when you arrive and always look to assist and make you comfortable. It's a soothing place. It took a little getting used to the notion of scheduling separate appointments for color and cut services, but once I got past that hurdle, it has been smooth sailing. Krista has transformed my color from flat out-of-the-box looking (even though it was from a salon), to looking so natural that you have to wonder whether it is dyed. Phillipe spent a good amount of time on the consultation, showing me how a length I wanted was not the most flattering for my profile and I completely agreed. He is truly a master stylist.
