The regular nail polish was goopy and my friend's nails are already chipped after a day. My gel nails are oddly opaque and the color didn't cover my whole nail which was kinda goofy. I've gone to Salon Blu for nearly 2 years and I've always had such great experiences with Danielle! I'm always happy with how she cuts and colors my hair, and she is so sweet too. She did a lash tint and lift once for me also, which I HIGHLY recommend! It was so worth it and I definitely want to do that again! They lasted a full 3 months :) I've never had a mani or pedi here before but the little nail rooms look so nice. Also, if I knew I wouldn't spend all my money I would come here just to shop in the adorable little store with everything from clothing and accessories to home goods! So I went for a spray tan (my first spray tan ever and I was doing a test run before a wedding). The employees were nice but I genuinely don't understand how they could not see the tan was ridiculously dark for my skin tone. I am very fair and pale and they basically turned me orange and it looked weird and patchy in certain places. They didn't even ask me about what coloring I wanted, they just did it. I felt so ugly afterwards and my friends, mom and sister all said it looked bad. I ended up showering immediately after and the product just came off, which makes me wonder if it was good quality. This salon/boutique is beautiful and much larger than it looks. Lots of cute little niche areas. They offer you drinks and make you feel instantly welcome. The pedicures are done in these cute 2-seat rooms and the nails are done in a space adjacent to the boutique area. There is a coffee/drink bar. A makeup bar. They do facials and waxing. Cute items for sale in the boutique. Each area has its own style and flava. Had my mani/pedi with Lexi who did a great job. The foot massage was wonderful. I returned another day to have my hair done by Nina who did a great job. She listened to my babbling concerns about my hair, tailored the products to my hair's specific needs and my personal style desires and voila! I am so glad to have found this spot. read more

When I find someone that can cut my hair well, I tend to stick with them, especially since it seems like no one else here is capable of cutting Asian hair without it looking awkward. I've been coming here for Jessica for quite a while. It's always a good time chatting while I'm there. She's also done color for me as well, and I've never had any complaints. Pricing is really quite affordable, especially when using pocket points to save a little bit of money. While most guys go to a barber shop, I've enjoyed my experience here having a greater variety of options. Negative reviews of this place just mean they haven't found the right person here. It can take some time before you find someone you can work with when dealing with hair. read more

Just got my eyebrows done there for the first time. I will probably never go back again. The girl who did them got the eyebrow wax in my hair, left some fallen hairs all over my face, and to top it all off she took pretty noticeable chunks out of both of my eyebrows. The first time Ashley cut my hair the left side was an inch longer than the right (she fixed it at no charge). The second time the back was nearly an inch and a half shorter than the front. I went to the beauty school for repair and the student and instructor showed me how the back was practically zig zag cut, not one length. My $10 cut at the beauty school turned out MUCH better than the $36 cut from Ashley. I'll never go back! Run, don't walk away from this place!!!! read more

Terrible. I went in to get full highlights and specifically said I don't want blonde, I wanted ash-y brown. What do I get? The same exact color as my natural color, brownish blonde. I even told her I didn't see any change in color and she didn't do anything about it except offer to curl it. I get that the color I want is a difficult color but if you can't do it then just tell me so I can avoid wasting $150! Which is another issue I had, I was over charged. After I left, I got to thinking about the price and why it seemed so expensive and after checking, they charged me for a more expensive service that I didn't get. The most upset, confused and insulted a service has made me feel. Their technical skills are good, but their soft skills are nonexistent ie. courage to own up to mistakes, confidence to ask for clarification, focus to listen to what you want, or ability to not appear like an a@!hole. The Story I rarely spend money on luxuries on myself, but after being frustrated with the look of my hair for two years I decided to do something about it and splurge on myself. I live in Mount Pleasant, so I did a little research to find the city's highest quality and best reviewed hair salon and found Salon Blu (in retrospect most of the good reviews mention an employee by name and the bad reviews generally have an issue with the business, so I should have asked for a specific employee). Their website is confusing to use, so I called by phone and asked for a recommendation if I wanted a haircut and color, plus good style advice. They refused to give this to me because apparently the employees are all robots and have equal skill levels in everything, so I scheduled an appointment with an employee who had worked there for a couple of years (this is the only way they distinguish between them). I first went to a 15-minute consultation appointment, it only last five minutes and she had me sit in the chair that was lowered all the way to the ground, while she towered 3.5 feet above me. It made for a physically and socially uncomfortable conversation, but I left thinking she had a grasp on what I wanted. One week later I was back at the salon for the cut and color. She had asked me to bring some photos in to clarify what I wanted, but both my phone and computer had broken that week and I lost the photos of what I wanted, so we did a quick look at some more photos. I am a natural blonde and I wanted to go darker, but still look natural. She showed me a photo of someone with hair color of Megan Markle and I said that is way to dark, so we looked a bit more, felt good and moved on to the actual dying. Fast forward two and a half hours of forced small talk and she reveals my hair to me...it looks the same, but the lighting in there is weirdly dark, so I think maybe it will look different at home. I went to the front desk to pay my bill and give her a 20% tip because I like to tip well, I was paying with card, but the receptionist asked me if I wanted to increase my tip by 20 cents, to bring my bill to an even $153. I don't see how this matters because I'm paying with a card and it just made me feel like she was judging my 20% tip as too little. I get to my car and yeah, it's the exact same color, like impressively the same color, like if you wanted to find red shoes to exactly match a red dress this is the person to do it. I had never dyed my hair before that day, so I know what my natural color is. I called back day or two later and they said I could come back in, so I do. I get there, and the hair dresser's explanation is that she knew she had gone too light, but hoped I wouldn't notice and also because this was my first time dying my hair she thought I would not want a change. I guess me saying that Megan Markle hair is too dark, because it's almost black, made her also think I was unsure. It was fine for her to think this, her mistake was not voicing this thought, to reconfirm what I wanted and also ignoring my, as the paying customer, instructions. But I shook this off, because I didn't go to the hair salon looking for honest people with a backbone to voice their thoughts and own up to mistakes, but looking for people skilled with hair. So another two and a half hours later and I'm on my way home. I wash my hair, because at this point the hair salon smell is making me nauseous and she has only dyed about an inch of my roots a warm dark brown, it is very nicely blended into the rest of my blonde hair, BUT IT IS STILL MOSTLY BLONDE! I can notice the change because I look at my hair every day, but my husband, mom, dad, two sisters and grandmother can not see a difference. Again I call and get the manager. Who basically blames me for not being descriptive enough. Sure, I did not use hairdresser jargon to explain what I wanted, but I thought 'I am blonde and would like a darker hair color' was clear and at the very least did not translate to "I am blonde and would like to still be blonde, but with very dark roots'. I asked for another hairdresser because I did not think myself and the other girl where on the same page and the manager starts guilt tripping me saying the first girl won't get paid for her services. That is upsetting news, but what also is upsetting is going to a salon three times, spending over five hours there, getting looked down upon for tipping too little and not knowing hair salon jargon, paying $153 and still not getting what I asked for. I did not go back again even though I did not like my hair and they did offer to try to fix it again, but I was pretty f*#king tired of dealing with Salon Blu at this point. read more

I was really impressed with Salon Blu. I went in last Friday (July 14) with my boyfriend's sister to get pedicures & a shellac mani. We were greeted immediately upon arrival, offered a drink, and met the nail techs who were working with us that day. The nail techs were Amanda and Bruce. They were hysterical, kept a conversation, and made sure Madi (my boyfriend's sister) and I were pleased with the work they did. Ironically, Amanda asked if I was going to marry my boyfriend. I told her I wanted to but he hasn't asked yet. It had always been small talk. Just a few short hours later, I was proposed to at Dow Gardens in Midland. The purpose for the appointment was so my hands would look nice for my ring & pictures of course. I live in New Mexico, and I sure wish there was a Salon Blu in Albuquerque! Came here on a whim for just a trim (my hair is very long but I like to get it cut regularly) after reading their reviews online and I was NOT disappointed!! I had Danielle and she noticed how healthy my hair was but slightly frizzy and recommended a hair conditioning treatment, which I decided to go with, and OMG, it was AMAZING!! I got a full scalp massage, and to this day my hair is the softest it's ever been! My appointment was in mid July, so it's been two months, and it's still fantastic. I'm definitely getting another! Not to mention, while my conditioning treatment set I was treated to a glass of wine, which I loved. I also got my eyebrows done while I was there (which I was nervous about) and they turned out AMAZING. Danielle paid attention to every detail and shaped, plucked, and trimmed my brows to perfection. This place is horrible. The stylist that I went to offered me extensions and I got them. After two months of having them in, my hair was falling out with the extensions, and everything was going wrong. I was told they would last for four to six months and when I went to get them taken out, I asked for a refund, and she refused. She blamed my scalp for not working well with the extension, when someone who is a professional should know if my scalp would work well or not. My stylist was very nice but completely botched my hair. It looked absolutely terrible and was not at all what I asked for, and I paid $120 for my services before tip. I ended up having it fixed elsewhere as I didn't feel comfortable having anyone else in the salon damage my hair any further. I asked for a reimbursement for the color correction and trim that I had done elsewhere, mind you I was very nice about it. I provided the owner with the before and after pictures & she never once apologized and was very rude to me, even after seeing the pictures. I've never written one bad review nor have I ever asked for my money back for any service that I have ever been provided with. I have gone here a few times because of the lack of quality salons in Mount Pleasant but this time was horrible. I have always had very blonde near platinum hair so I have been to my fair share of salons in mount pleasant, rochester and novi with a variety of stylists. I finally got sick of having to get my hair done every time my roots grew in so this time when I went in I asked to blend my darker root color down by adding lowlights. I have seen many of my friends get this done and even showed Brandi (who was doing my hair) many similar pictures even ones that showed progress throughout the whole process. After she was done, I was shocked at what she had done to my hair. She was very happy with it, and thought it looked so good. I left the salon just to cry in my car about how horribly wrong it was. She took what I said and did something completely different. My hair was now all over silver and grey. There was no blending of my roots, it was all over highlights of silver. I showed many of my friends and family and they too agreed that this was nothing like what I wanted and asked for. I gave it a day to try and let it grow on me but I woke up and continued to get upset how awful it was. I even wore a hat because it was hideous. Two days later, I called the salon and told them what had happened and that I wasn't sure what to do and that I wasn't even very thrilled that they suggested I let her try and fix it. I wanted someone else to do it, especially because I spent around $150 on it. So the following day I went in early and talked to Katie about it and showed her the same pictures I showed Brandi and she said she thought she had a different vision for your hair. I'm sorry but I do not care what vision you have. I asked for something that is what I should get. I also mentioned how it was not my intention to humiliate her or make her feel bad about it but my intention was to potentially darken my hair so that I can let it grow and get healthier. Because of whatever she did with my hair to make it silver/grey, it just as fried as it was before with the bleach. Unfortunately, I had to let her try and fix it which was an incredibly uncomfortable appointment. I think she tried to fix it as much as she could, by stripping out the color twice.... and then putting in lowlights. However, once she was done with this my hair was just all around dark which again wasn't what I wanted from the beginning. It was almost as if I was accommodating for a result that was better than her mess up but still was nothing like what I wanted. Brandi is supposed to be a level 3 stylist and apparently worked at other salons near Novi (which is more expensive but has a LOT better quality salons/stylists) and she did a horrible job!! She told me that she would give me a discount next time however I WILL NEVER BE GETTING MY HAIR DONE ANYWHERE IN MOUNT PLEASANT AGAIN..... Horrible salons and even worse stylists! read more
