We were talking about how much better my hair is now and how crazy of an experience that was back then and how much it fried my hair. I really didn't want to cut it all off, but we had to cut a good amount after that from how burned it was and my hair still isn't fully grown out and back to normal yet. I was mentioning to my hairdresser that I learned my lesson and now I read every single review before choosing to go to a salon out of state anymore... and that's when I realized I never shared my experience on here. Some context for those of you wondering why this came out of no where... it didn't, it's been something I've been paying for 16 months now. UPDATE: I got a quick response from the salon about my review. I know that I'm a year late to this review and the stylist might not be there anymore, but the fact that multiple people in the salon and at the front desk weren't filling to help me or take ownership and fix the situation tells me way more about the salon as a whole than just the stylist. Which is why I published the review now, and I wish I published it earlier if it had helped other people avoid this problem. The comment from the salon states that I am lying in my original review and that I may not have even gotten a service from a stylist at Caliente Salon... so I searched for my credit card statement from June 2017 when Caliente charged me for that horrendous service, and then right after when I went to Lunatic Fringe salon and they fixed my hair. I bought some travel-sized products from them since I was coming in for a business event out of town and I wanted to give them money somehow for how helpful and kind they were to me in my situation (ended up going to Ulta for the rest of the products I needed that Lunatic Fringe didn't have in stock - you can see this on my credit card statement as well) Again, that response to my review shows the same lack of responsibility and ownership that I experience a year ago, so it seems like nothing's changed. I'm attaching two new photos to prove I'm not lying or that this service was done at a different salon 1) credit card statement proving I paid Caliente for this service 2) a picture of me walking outside by Caliente. We walked out of Caliente and turned right to walk back to our AirBNB and my boyfriend took a picture of my hair. I used google maps to capture a screenshot of that same street to show we were there and it was minutes after leaving Caliente. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This was about a year ago but I was telling the story to my hair stylist today and realized I had never left a review. I went in for a blowout in the morning June 2017 and asked for beachy waves for a business event I had that afternoon. I specifically asked for someone that was good at doing beachy / soft waves for a blow out and they assured me over the phone that they'd scheduled me with the best. I did not get what I asked for, not even close. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. See them attached with captions. I am the type of person that takes extra care of my hair - I wash it with cold water, use heat protectant and natural products, and go to the best salons for my blow out. Apparently this salon wasn't it because my hair was completely fried and destroyed afterwards. And it seems like ratings have gone down as well since I was last there. Figures. Also they tried to charge me double than what they quoted me over the phone, and didn't agree that my hair was fried and looked terrible. I walked out of there having paid someone to fry my hair and there was nothing they were willing to do about it to fix it. Fortunately I found Lunatic Fringe Salon and they salvaged my hair 10 minutes before my business event. Go there instead and don't make my mistake. Despite specifically requesting highlights throughout, the back of her hair was left untouched. When she asked to have it corrected, she was quoted an additional $100. She also had to return the next day because the front still showed visible dark roots -- the job hadn't been done properly. They fixed the front, but then wanted another $100 to finish what should have been completed the day before. Afterward, my girlfriend looked into the salon's actual pricing and found it hadn't changed at all -- meaning she'd been misled about the increase. She called to raise this with the owner, Julie, who redirected her back to Katelynn, and Katelynn didn't answer her call. Between the inflated pricing, the incomplete work, and the lack of accountability, I'd steer clear. There are salons that will do the job right the first time and charge you honestly for it. Overpriced and dishonest business practices.

I obviously don't know the full story, but people do not leave a salon in waves like that for no reason. Ever since then, the professionalism here has absolutely tanked. I tried giving the salon another chance once they hired more staff. During my haircut appointment, the stylist spent most of the service talking about explicit personal topics that had absolutely nothing to do with me or my appointment. She repeatedly stopped cutting my hair to talk with coworkers, complained about wanting to go home, complained about working past close, and openly acted annoyed to be there... even though my appointment was booked during normal salon hours. My bangs were also cut unevenly. I honestly thought maybe I just caught someone on a bad day, so I came back again for color with a different stylist. Same energy, different person. She complained about management, complained about being exhausted, asked to leave early during my appointment, and had her boyfriend sitting in the waiting area while she worked. Then at checkout, she literally calculated a 20% tip for me and told me exactly what amount to enter into the keypad. I asked for 2 inches off, my hair fell below my chest, then the girl cut it to my collarbone! It was too late when I noticed and it was blunt cut so I felt like Lord Farquad. Nalani Ross, the hair stylist in Boise did my hair a few weeks ago. I went in and she seemed so polite and did my hair and even though I wasn't really happy with how it came out- I knew it wasn't her fault per se. When the appointment was over she handed me her iPad which I swiped my card on. The iPad then died. My transaction went through on my end and my card was charged. Later that night she told me that the charge didn't go through. I then looked at my card, saw the transaction still went through on my end. The money was taken out and the transaction was pending. So I wanted her to get her money (70$ but I added a 50$ tip because I always top my hair dressers a good amount.) I then went to work and was contacting support on my side. I spent hours talking to customer support trying to get this charge either cancelled to resend or to get it sent through. I took about 6-7 screen shots of the transaction, the entire conversation etc. Of the whole ordeal to show Nalani that I was working vigilantly to get her money to her (even though it was technically her fault for not charging her iPad and creating this massive headache for the both of us.) The lady via customer service told us that we needed to wait 7-10 days until the transaction falls off in order to resend. Then, the next day Nalani messages me once again asking for the money to be sent. I once again send screen shots of another 1-2 hour long conversation of me and the customer service rep for the 2nd day in a row that I have contacted them and had the same exact response. Nalani then said it was fine and we would wait. During the wait period I had a couple days of my phone being cut off because of personal reasons. (All while the transaction is still pending.) Apparently Nalani tried to contact me once during this time and didn't think to message me on Facebook or any other platform. I get my phone turned on finally today and receive a message from her on Facebook (her first and only message to me via Facebook) and on text. It stated that she was going to contact the police and have this marked as petty theft and tried to accuse me of stealing from her and questioning my morals. That angered me greatly, considering how hard I have been fighting with costumer service to get the transaction worked out, with tons of proof of screen shots etc. We went back and forth and she was extremely unprofessional, condescending and down right toxic. I then decided to just send her the money via Venmo and deal with the double charge until the transaction money falls off and goes back into my available balance. She then tells me that she is going to 'Blacklist me' to the hairstylists in the entire Treasure Valley" and she also has had people harass me on multiple social media platforms. Telling me I am ugly and that I am poor for not being able to pay the money for my hair (even though now at this point I have paid double.) I am disgusted and appalled that a grown woman who is a single mother raising a daughter would treat a client like this. In conclusion, it is her fault for not charging her iPad that caused this entire fiasco. Then she disregards my constant efforts to get her money to her. She then threatens me with criminal charges even though I have proof showing that I am trying to get her money to her. Then she threatens to put me on a Blacklist for hairstylists. It shows her exact character and how terrible of a person she truly is deep down. I have been dealing with a lot in my life and even though she messed up I was still taking hours of my day to make it right for her and make sure she got the money she earned. But all I got for it was a slap in the face and abusive toxic harassment on social media platforms. If you go to Muse Salon, AVOID NALANI at all costs. She doesn't deserve your support. Nalani used 2 different slurs MULTIPLE TIMES during our hair session. The Anti-LGBTQIA slur (F word) and the R word. She made fun of her own daughter saying and I quote "my daughter always tells me to stop using those words but I AM THE adult and she is the child. I can say what I want. It's how we were raised." I vented to my best friend who is gay and me being an LGBTQIA alli, we were disgusted and decided to just keep it to ourselves. After the recent incidents I have decided that I was in the wrong for even letting her finish my hair cut, let alone not tell her about herself right then and there and I am ashamed of myself for not speaking up sooner.

I left with hair that was soft and didn't look as shaggy. Not only that, Nalani gave me some ideas for what I could do to help my hair look better. As she was working on my hair, Nalani asked me if I had previously had curly hair, which I had. In the past years though, it has just been frizzy. I've never had a stylist notice that. She talked to me about how I could make it curly again. I thought it was great that she took the time to help give me an education. She really met me where I was at and tried to meet my needs with what I was willing to do to rule my hair. Nalani was friendly and professional and very approachable. The system she uses to schedule an appointment was really user friendly. I could make an appointment within the week and I really appreciated that she does appointments on weekends. You get reminder texts, which is nice for people like me who forget. I definitely recommend Nalani. Her prices are in line with virtually every other stylist in the area, $40 for a haircut and $240 for a blowout. It is a lot, but you have to pay people fairly for their time and the products they use.
