This was my first time at this salon. Now I have to say I thought this salon was part of or connected to the Sono Hair Academy. I say this because when I went online to research and I looked up the Sono Hair Academy and their prices, the number I called and booked the appointment was for the Sono hair Academy and the address that I was given was apparently for Salon Etre unbeknown to me. So when I arrived at the salon, I was a little confused but figured OK wow this is nice. This is great. This is the salon portion of the academy. Almost immediately, I was talked into getting this $30 split end treatment, which was 'supposed to' last for three months. SCAM. It lasted maybe two washing? While the hairdresser did provide some good tips while cutting and drying my hair it definitely was not worth what I paid for as I was not expecting to be hit with a $90 charge. The whole point of me going to this salon was the expectation to be charged the Academy fee, which is what I saw online which was like $30. And the only reason I wanted to go to the Academy was because all I wanted was a trim because my hair is long and I just needed a little off the ends. It didn't even needed to be washed. So I walked out of there the $90 haircut plus the $30 split end treatment totaling $120 + tip! All this and I could've waited to go to my regular hairdresser‍ read more

I called to make an appointment, but asked if there was a hairdresser able to give me an angled bob. The girl who answered the phone asked the hairdressers and I was told no one was comfortable cutting a bob. Isn't that just basic haircuts 101? No way would I ever go there. read more

I have gone to Salon Etre at least 4 times. The last two times were disappointing and it's not because of the haircut itself. Part of going to a good salon, where you are paying a good amount for color/cut etc., is a feeling of being taken care of and in a good atmosphere, where your business is valued. The time before last, there were two children running through the salon the entire time (the stylists were babysitting these kids for someone). I was there for 2 1/2 hours. Annoying. There was a baby/infant as well. My stylist excused herself several times to attend to them. I love kids, but I don't expect that at a good salon. And there were no apologies at all, like it was a normal thing. Still, I went back. This past time, even though I booked a few weeks prior, my stylist was working on something else. She came over to say hello, said she was very busy on something that sounded much more exciting than doing my hair, and that was the last I saw of her. Someone else did my coloring and blowdry. This is NOT the way to treat repeat clients - and ones who are flexible (as I was). If someone books with a stylist, and they can't make it for some reason, let the client know before so that they can rebook if they want. And if you don't do that, then at least apologize. Don't come over and make your client seem like they are second choice now because there's a more exciting fashion project or whatever it was. I'm done with Salon Etre. I have been to this salon a couple of times and I have always loved it. But my experience today was amazing. I had Joselyn for a haircut today. She was very attentive to all my hair cut concerns and wants! She communicated with me during my whole hair cut making sure I was okay with the lame, the style of the cut, etc. making the result absolutely what I wanted!!! The best part was when she took me over to wash my hair. She gave me the best scalp massage ever!!! I really appreciate her taking her time and not rushing through a simple haircut. Inside of the salon, it's very clean. They play fun music, and everybody is very friendly. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a haircut or color. Was a first time customer and saw one of their most senior stylists who even teaches in the school there. She was a lovely person, but she did a terrible job on my hair. The lighting in the salon was so bad I couldn't tell until I left. Was nothing like the photo I showed her of my own hair color a year prior; the color was brassy and orange, patchy & under developed. Almost $500 later and It's terrible . I called a few weeks later after trying to live with it and seeing it if would even out with time and lots of toning shampoo and no dice. It just got worse. I called back to cancel my next appt, and told the receptionist. No offer of partial refund or anything, just said she would inform the owner. I went to another salon in the area and the stylist confirmed the color was pretty awfully done. Confirmed it was underdeveloped. She indicated my hair probably didn't process the way the stylist intended because of prior processing, but that she just didn't bother to correct it. Yikes. Will not be back. read more

I have been going to this salon for years. They used to have experienced, talented stylists. This recent sono academy grad could not cut my hair straight and after 4 attempts my hair is still uneven. I was too scared to get the cut I usually get as I was worried I would be further butchered. It's clear they are trying to save money by hiring new people but losing the talented stylists they had was a huge mistake on their part and I won't be returning. read more

What an amazing experience! I came here to have my hair fixed after another salon turned my hair orange. The space is a beautifully, big, and full of really cool local artwork. The staff greeted me immediately and then I met with Michelle. She took the time to listen to my concerns, calm my nerves, and worked absolute magic on my hair. Everyone at the salon was very nice and I will def be back! Note: it's best to park in the parking lot that runs on the street behind the building. I had one of the junior stylist cut my hair, she was very sweet and cut my hair perfectly. The space is also very clean and chic. However, some of the employees seemed uptight or judge mental towards me since I went with the junior stylist who's fees are cheaper than a senior stylist. I 110% recommend the junior stylist. Apparently my wife can no longer go there after going here for years because she was unhappy with her last service. Stylist has been doing her hair for years and cut it a lot shorter than she normally does and my wife expressed her displeasure. I saw the communication and nothing bad or worthy of this was said. What a complete joke and will make sure everyone knows to stay away. Completely astonished after dumping so much money into this business over the years that this is the response. I was able to get a last minute appointment just before Christmas (2020)- not for anything special but because the 2020 blues had me feeling impulsive and needing change. So after 2 years of long mermaid (honestly tangled) hair, I decided to chop it all off to a wispy bob. And Jewel ROCKED it. She was in tune with my head shape, made sure I didn't look like Kate-Plus-Eight and kept it fresh and chic. She also was in the know about my hair type and gave me tips for care and style. I moved to Norwalk last May and booked a haircut randomly with Kelly- I've been going to her ever since! She seems to just know what you're looking for and gets the job done effectively and efficiently! I usually get my hair cut around shoulder length and she gets all of the right angles, etc. This time I told her I'm going to grow my hair out and I trusted her to take off as much as she thought was necessary to give a healthy look but still keeping some length. She always gives an honest professional opinion for what is best for your hair/what style will compliment you the most. Of course, the salon itself is always clean and looks great. The location is awesome as well and is surrounded by great restaurants- but plan a few extra minutes in your travel time to allot for finding a spot! read more

Recently moved to the area and was referrred here by a friend. I have long hair and asked for long layers. To my surprise upon stepping out of the chair and feeling the length I had two layers..... one to my should and the other almost to my chin. I have never had hari this short in my life. Not once did the stylist confirm the length or ask before she hacked it all off. Ive never had someone cut my hair this short. I was then charged $65 for this hack job. I told myself it was only a haircut and to sleep on it. After waking up this morning I am even more upset about it. The layers aren't even blended well and look choppy. Extremely disappointed and cant believe I have to walk around with this hack job of a hair cut for the next few months. read more

First time here, had a haircut and boy was it a mess. Very poor technique, bad job. Once I went home and saw the cut close up with better light and noticed uneven layers and left and right side of head are not same length. Had to get my scissors out to fix some patches. Needless to say I will not be going back. Staff friendly enough but doesn't make up for the fact that an expensive haircut better be done right. From a distance the hair looks decent, just don't look close. read more

I'm so surprised to see that there aren't any reviews for this place! I just had my hair done here over the weekend, cut and full head of highlights -balyage (sp?) to be exact, and I am loving it! Samantha was my stylist, she did an absolutely wonderful job, listened to exactly what I asked for, was pleasant to chat with and remained patient and focused the whole way through (I have a lot of hair). Not only does my hair look great, but the entire time I was wondering and worrying about how much it was going to cost me, after all it is located downtown, the place is gorgeous, and my hair looked great. Final price came to $115 (with an automatic 15% off that they give to all newcomers). I was pleasantly surprised and I will definitely be coming back. I highly suggest this salon! read more

I was very disappointed with my last two appointments/services at Salon Etre. I typically get balayage and a haircut but this time I only had time for the color. I see the same stylist every time but for some reason this time instead of blond, my hair was a burnt yellow/orange. I didn't realize the color was off until I had gotten home. I called the following week to schedule an appointment to have it fixed and they were happy to take me in the following weekend. I could tell the stylist was annoyed and while she obliged and tried to fix the color, it just didn't come out as I had hoped. I had only seen her for four appointments over a year and something was just off but then I checked out (I bought a shampoo) and they charged me a 15% service charge! I was shocked! Not only because they charged me to fix my hair (which wasn't even fixed) but all the previous times, the price for a balayage and haircut with the same stylist kept changing. The first time it was $150, the second time it was $190, the third time it was $150 again! The owner lets the stylist put in her own services on the computer and that is why the price fluctuates. Since then, I've gotten my color fixed and have no plans to return to the salon. read more
