Love Salon Four! The entire staff is warm and friendly. I've been getting my hair done since I was a teenager and have been to countless salons but Salon Four is truly the best of the best. Kelly does my color and as a blonde I am VERY picky. She always listens to what I want and gets it right EVERY TIME. I get tons of compliments. For my cut. I go to Jen P. and she's just as fantastic. She takes her time and gives a beautiful, detailed cut. My son even goes to her now and we will not see anyone else! I can't tell you how many people ask us about our hair. After spending the last two years growing out my hair, avoiding heat, and maintaining my ends, I went to Salon Four to get a long layered hair cut I've been eyeing. The hair stylist completely ignored me. She didn't even glance at the pictures I was trying to show her. She said I was "clearly the type of client who didn't maintain my hair." She talked over me when I tried to explain what I wanted and said she would do something similar that was easier to style on a daily basis. She asked how I felt about the length and I said I wanted to keep it below my shoulders. She cut more than six inches off and gave me a "karen cut" telling me "hopefully you can maintain this." I feel so embarrassed, judged, and frustrated that it's going to take at least a year to get it back to the length I want. It's like going to a restaurant ordering a burger and being told "No you're fat. Eat this salad--except you can leave the restaurant and get the burger for your next meal and not wait a year. read more

Salon Four is the absolute best! I was lucky to find this place and Kelly and I trust her 100% with my hair. She listens to me and my hair always comes out exactly how I hope it will. I recently took the plunge and for balayage and she knew I was nervous. I hadn't put color in my hair in over a decade so I was very hesitant to go for it. She talked me through the whole process and what to expect and I could not be more thrilled with the results. I asked for it to flow naturally so if I don't keep up with it (I'm terrible at upkeep) it will still look good as it grows out. But honestly, I'm in love and I believe Kelly helped me find my new look. Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Salon Four in Scotch Plains. Because it was my first time being back in a salon since COVID, I was a little nervous, but could not have had a better experience!! Salon Four is so spacious and clean, I saw chairs and sinks and tools being cleaned and wiped constantly! This was a big difference from the smaller salon I had been going to in Westfield. My stylist, Danielle, was so friendly and thoughtful and did an amazing job on my hair! Dani freshened up my highlights, and gave me such a beautiful blow out, I left feeling AMAZING! She listened to my thoughts of what I wanted my hair to look and shared her thoughts on what would look best on me. I can tell she is an experienced, and thoughtful colorist who knows how to highlight people's features and give them exactly what they hope for. My highlights look so natural and turned out better then I imagined! To make my experience even better, while I was processing, I learned that the salon also provides waxing services. I obviously inquired if I could make an appointment to get my eyebrows done sometime soon. One of the other stylists, Joey, came over right away, assessed my brows and did me up! My brows have honestly never looked better! Dani, Joey and all of the staff made my experience so fun and enjoyable. All of my nerves and fears disappeared, my experience at Salon four was beyond my expectations. The staff was accommodating, helpful, and some of the kindest I have ever met! I WAS very happy with this salon. I have had hair cuts with multiple people (i work full time so i can only come on weekends or evenings) and all were great. I finally found a stylist i really liked and decided i wanted to start coloring my hair again. First time she colored my hair it was subtle and faded pretty fast so i decided to go more bold woth my red color next time. I was happy with the color at first but once i stepped outside the roots looked orange compared to the rest of my hair. I decided to give it a couple washes bc i know this can happen (esp with auburn color) but it started to get even more orange. I called the salon to see about getting it corrected. I was told that bc of the times i need they could not see me for another 3 weeks (four weeks after it was originally done). When i asked if there was anyone at all in the salon who could see me the person on the phone told me "well then you would have to pay". I asked the fee and said "well if you arent able to see me im going to have to go to a different salon and pay there so thats fine". She put me on hold again and said the stylist i saw would prefer to see me instead, yet still wasnt able to get me in for a month. I told them i was really disappointed and that im going to have to find a new salon. She said okay then. Really terrible customer service. Real shame because i was happy there but now im forced to find somewhere new. read more

Update: 4 years later & Salon Four is even better then it was when it first opened. In addition to the original girls who opened they have added some of the most amazing hairdressers. They now have 8/10 chairs all of whom are worked by talented, versatile, kind, friendly individuals of all ages. And that is what I love about this establishment. These fresh young girls & guy give it such a fun vibe while the older ladies keep that calm seasoned energy. It's such a great balance & because of this you see people of ALL ages sitting in every chair. It's not one of those trendy pompous type of places where only model like people walk into. They make us ALL feel great. They make us all feel welcomed. Beautiful. Appreciated & validated. I've seen people in walkers walk in & leave happy. I've seen new moms with newborns in car seats get tended to & be given a moment here & there to tend to their little one while they get their hair done. I've seen Dads sit & wait for their teen daughter to get a haircut. Big burly men come in for a fresh fade & everyone gets treated with the same courtesy, respect & attentiveness. Salon four has this humble/homey ambiance to it. Everyone is honest & their main goal is to make you look the best you can even if it means doing a less expensive process. Worse salon ever. I wish there were negative stars. After 3 hours, my daughter's hair, who went for highlights, was way darker than her original color!!! Owner completely lost it and kicked us out. She wouldn't listen to our complaint. Nothing...she is ALWAYS right apparently. This is my new favorite salon in the entire union county area! Danielle is incredible with color and she brightened up my blonde perfectly. She understood exactly what I wanted and took her time with it. Making an appointment was super quick and easy and I didn't have to wait to be seated in her chair. I initially went in for partial highlights to treat myself for New Years, the dye completely did not take the first round because I had previously box dyed my hair over 5 months ago. So I called back to the salon to try and get my hair fixed and the next day they had me back in the chair and fixed my hair. I went to Julie to get keratin hair extensions. I love them so much! She did a perfect job and was completely honest when it came to blending the hair with mine. I ended up needing another bundle of hair and she went ahead and ordered it and the next week she put them in. My hair is shoulder length and now it's almost down to my butt and my hair looks amazing and not fake! Layered and blended and even when my hair is a mess they look like my real hair. Salon Four provides friendly, efficient service and the price is competitive. By the way, there are dozens of barber shops in the area, but this is the only place I know of where I can sit back and get a haircut without being required to watch television, or several televisions, because in most places these are present and on at all times. I went to Joe for my bridal hair trial and picked him for our wedding and I'm so glad I did. From start to finish he did 8 women's hair and had us all ready on time. He stayed until i got in my dress to make sure I didn't need any touch ups and to put the veil on himself. Everyone loved their hair (pleasing 8 very different women is hard, especially these women) and two days later my hair is still amazing. I made an appointment with Becky for a hair cut and bayalage. I have long hair with blonde highlights. I went to her bc I felt like my previous hair dresser was making it look ashy. Becky did a great job with both the color and cut. They all seem to be very talented here. EVERY ONE leaving the salon looked great and all the customers were raving about the people who work here.
