I had a horrendous experience getting full highlights from Jeanine at this salon. It was taking ages while she tended to another client, by the time they washed out the bleach my hair had overprocessed and started falling out in the sink. She never apologized, told me I just didn't understand the process. It was humiliating, terrifying and something I am still living with for months. Then they had the nerve to charge me the full $85 for a haircut (I gently combed my own hair and refused to let them blow dry it). Cute salon, nice people, decent cut/color... however, i won't be coming back. I have a fundamental issue with charging an extra $25 for a blow dry. If I have someone do my hair, i fully expect them to blow it dry as a last step to ensure they did a good job. To me, it's like a chef making a sauce and not tasting it. I find it baffling that after the shampoo girl rinsed my hair today i was asked to pay and the stylist never looked at my hair to check her work. I paid $80 for a single process root touch up and i walked out with wet hair. If i am going to pay that much, i expect them to quality check and finish their work. read more

I came here to have highlights done by Jeanine, the colorist. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is clean and welcoming. From start to finish, the experience at Charles Studio is top notch. The beautiful salon is buzzy and filled with energy, but calm enough for you to enjoy the most extensive and skillful hair wash and head massage you've had outside of a professional cranio-sacral massage. This is easily my favorite part! The designated hair washer concentrates on you and never rushes through this critical step. Upon being seated, they will serve you an espresso, latte, water, or tea. Rivals my Starbucks run! Jeanine has been highlighting my blonde hair for more than a decade. I continually get compliments, and have referred her to several friends (and strangers!) who have had fabulous experiences with her as well. She has always worked with me, keeping me realistic about my hair and also allowing me to experiment. Her color always looks natural, and my follow up appointments are stretched few and far between because of her skilled technique. I always tell her she's doing herself a disservice by doing such a good job! I don't have to come back nearly enough. If I ever feel I haven't achieved the exact look I was going for (yes, it's happened over the 10 years!), I call and she welcomes me back to her chair to make the necessary adjustments. Charles has cut my hair for even longer than Jeanine has colored it. He has become a friend, not just a stylist, over the years. Through an illness that affected my hair in a major way, he offered to continuously cut, trim, and style my hair and never allowed me to pay. I can't tell you what a difference in my mental well-being this made. He made me feel beautiful even at my worst. I will be forever grateful to him for this. Charles cuts are always flawless, he moves with confidence, and as a woman with long hair I like to say he specializes in the "Charles"- the cut that somehow takes off all the dead ends, and yet still feels long. His cuts last for months on me. Katelyn gives the best blow outs! She has always cut my boys' hair (ages 3.5 and 4.5) and people are always asking where I get their hair done because they are "real" cuts and not "kids" cuts. She also cuts my husbands hair. Charles is amazing, and I've also had a haircut by a junior stylist that I was happy with. Charles really pays attention to what you want, and knows what works well with your hair. As far as coloring goes, I had a horrible experience with the colorist. I went in and wanted to go from brunette to blond (knowing very well what I was getting myself into because I had blond hair before, and even showed her a picture of my hair). She talked me out of it, and said ombré highlights would look better. I agreed. When it was done it didn't even look like she had done anything, and definitely didn't look like what she said she was going to do. I ended up spending 5 hours at the salon, had to have my hair dyed back to brown, and months later, my hair is still recovering from all the damage she did that day. Not mention, she still charged me for the highlights, when she was the one who made the mistake and didn't do what she said she would do. Get a haircut. Don't trust the coloring. read more

This salon is the real thing. Charles is amazing- a true artist- so incredibly skillful and passionate about his craft - he really knows how to make a woman look beautiful. His team, particularly his assistant Billy, are just as fabulous (did the most amazing blow-out- I haven't looked this good in years). His studio is modern yet comfortable, and absolutely immaculate (despite multiple clients, there was not a hair on the floor). I decided to try Charles Studio because it's close to home and got great reviews. Charles gave me a dated styleless haircut that did't suit my hair type. The funny thing is, he kept telling me how chic the cut was and how nice I looked so I couldn't tell him how I really felt. I just don't think he invested the time necessary to achieve a great cut and for $90, I expected more. I went back to ZOKU in Summit to get it fixed and my stylist IRENE did an amazing job. I started going to Charles Studio about a year ago, after needing a change from my colorist/stylist for over 10 years. So happy I did. Jeanine does my coloring and its great -- I have to go every three weeks so I'm there often. Katelyn cuts my hair, as well as my daughters. I was worried about the pricing since its very modern and has a NYC feel, but surprising was cheaper than my previous salon. They are very attentive, asking you if you want a latte, water, tea -- making sure you are comfortable. Charles Studio is amazing. I have long, unruly, curly hair and I never feel as though anyone can do anything with it, but the staff at Charles Studio fixed my color, and gave me a great cut. They did exactly what I wanted--they kept it long, added a bit of shape. Janine is so wonderful with color. She gave me something easy to maintain, but with lots of warmth and great dimension. Usually people hate blowing out my hair because there is so much of it and it's so curly that it makes for a big job, but their staff generally seem to love working with hair and the whole process is a pleasure from beginning to end. For days people have been telling me how great I look. Charles Studio is absolutely the best salon in the area and yet they are also some of the most genuine, friendly, and caring people I have ever encountered in a salon. My husband and I have been going to this salon for almost 4 years. Both of us are very particular with our hair and I am happy to say that they have never failed us. Lisa who trims my husband's hair is a sweetheart. Charles who owns the salon is the best! Even if my hair gets longer, it still maintains the shape and it still looks good. So disappointed with this salon. I had been going to the salon for awhile and was paying $20 for a blow out. I went one Saturday , I had a touch up on my color and a blow out (my hair is short) for $120.. I went home and realized when I looked in the mirror I still had quite a few gray hairs on my head. I called back the following Monday to inquire about the price of the blow out and complain about the gray hair. I was told it's $30 on a Saturday and only $20 on a week day.. I understand Saturday is usually a very busy day for a hair salon but there were quite a few employees who were standing around doing nothing and were quite capable of doing a blow out. I was so disappointed, I never even got a chance to mention all the gray in my hair after spending a total of $120.00 for color touch up and blow out plus tip..Never again. read more

I have tried so many salons in this area, and was never happy with the results. I can happily say that I am done looking for a new salon! Charles Studio is it. I scheduled my highlights with Jeanine, and a cut with Katelyn. Both woman are amazing in what they do. Both ladies took the time to sit and have a full on consultation. Jeanine pulled up pics of hair colors on an iPAD and asked me what I thought, (too blonde, too brown etc) She explained everything she was doing through the entire process of highlighting my hair, which required a double-process to cover all my grays. And I absolutely loved the end result- it's very natural looking and is exactly what I wanted. Katelyn spruced up the cut and style of my hair, but made sure it was still easily manageable for me to throw up in a pony-tail if I wanted. Only downfall of this salon is not being able to put a tip on a credit card, but I think that is becoming the norm in a lot of places. Just make sure you have a lot of cash, as I needed to tip 3 individual people (colorist, hairdresser and shampoo girl) Thankfully I was somewhat prepared to do that. Place has a really cool vibe, and I loved sitting around a table all facing in getting my hair done, and not staring at a wall with my back to everyone- made for some lovely small conversations with other people at my table.
