I originally heard about Salon Hyde Park from a friend, and I am glad I did. The salon is located in South Tampa / Hyde Park very easy to go to and convenient for me since its just around the corner from my office building. If you are looking for a Fantastic 5 star salon look no further this is the "IT" Salon in one of the best areas of Tampa Bay. Everyone is friendly, the salon is updated with a comfortable feel, and I'm always asked if I want anything to drink when I come in. Coffee, water, and snacks always available, but usually not too much of a wait for the chance to have any of it! Until I found Salon Hyde Park, I never 'enjoyed' going to get my haircut, it was more of a chore. But I will have to admit, I really enjoy going! Now for the best part of the salon...the stylists. I love my stylist Libby. She is sweet, easy to talk to, and a phenomenal stylist! I never have to tell her how I want my haircut, always turns out great. I enjoy talking to her so much I usually forget I am getting my hair cut. I am glad my hair grows quickly so I get to see her often! She's even been sweet enough to meet me early in the morning so I can get my hair cut before work. I've also seen Chelsea, who is also awesome! She gives a great hair cut, really fun to talk to, and gives the worlds best scalp massage! Don't think you can go wrong by coming here. I've been to other places to get my hair cut, and none compare to Salon Hyde Park. You'll instantly feel at home, and all the stylists are experienced and will take their time with you. I was scared they were going to chop off what I had left and send me home nearly bald because I have destroyed my hair. I have been going to Geo for about 20 years now. He worked with me to find the perfect color that I get compliments on all the time. He also now cuts and/or colors both of my daughters' hair as well; they were babies when I first started going! We all have different hair/looks and he can handle all of us; we always leave happy. He is always on time and is super thoughtful (knows I have a sensitive scalp so he makes sure to use the softest brush for my color and be gentle with washing.) Lizzie has been doing my hair for over a year now. When I first started seeing Lizzie, I had box dyed my hair black 3x and had the goal of going back to ashy platinum hair. This is probably a hairdressers nightmare, but Lizzie created a game plan and advised me on how we could go about it without overly damaging my hair. I knew this would be a process, but I desperately wanted my old hair back. Don't got here. You will leave in tears. Went to get a haircut yesterday. My hair is so jacked up and short there isn't even a way to fix up how bad the guy messed up my hair. I told him I wanted to feel sexy and even told him I was feeling insecure. Well guess he didn't listen. Now I have such jacked up hair, another stylist won't even take me on to fix it. What a wonderful surprise.... I was looking for a place to get men's haircut and they were able to take me last minute. Without question, this was one of the best haircuts I have ever received. The stylist was super friendly and turned my overgrown mop of hair into a cool and clean look. Cannot be happier. I recently had the unfortunate experience of my 3rd appt. with Lizzie. I was long overdue to color my roots, but wanted to wait as long as I could due to some breakage from last appt and I told her that. I asked for some kind of conditioning to assist me with that. I did not receive any. I stated that my hair was much lighter than before, which, against my dark hair, looks gray. I did not request lighter, nor did we talk about it. When I went home the hair around my face started breaking off into my sink. I messaged Lizzie to tell her. She replied that she did make it lighter and that doing that on my blonde ends would cause damage. She stated that waiting as long as I did, put my hair at a greater risk of this. Then she tried to blame my straightener, which I have used for 25 years without incident. She did say she could tone it back to gold, but that it wouldn't be healthy. Finally, she told me that I should find a new hairdresser since I am unhappy. The lack of accountability and customer service is a palling. No apology. No compromise. A professional and reputable salon should stand by their work and make amends when they clearly failed to meet their customers expectations. Instead, I was left with a hair disaster and a hefty bill! ($300 for a partial highlights, no cut.) there are plenty of other salons out there that care about their customers and their craft. Steer clear of here. read more

I have been coming to salon Hyde park for years and seen a couple different stylists. They have all been top notch and given me exactly what I'm asking for. As a woman the result of your hair can be a make or break factor of how you feel about yourself. It's clear how much libby cares about all of her staff and how peaceful of an environment she creates.. I've been to Wexford house and a couple other salons where the girls all seem to have drama and it feels like walking on eggshells as a client. It's so comforting and welcoming. I just love it. This is the worst salon experience I've ever had in my life. I came in with pictures on what I wanted and then they proceeded to tell me they only had an hour and they didn't have time. The owner then came over and was as rude as can be as well as the hairdresser. I felt ganged up on and as a client that has had two great experiences here, this is extremely disappointing. I was recommended to this salon by a close friend and initially was skeptical due to these reviews. However, I'm soooo glad I did. Christine did my hair and she did a FABULOUS job. I went from a dark brown, which was previously bright red, to a blonde request. I thought it would be impossible as many stylist refuse to do it all at once, but not Christine. She level set with me regarding my expectations and promised me she will do her best to get me as close as possible. Even though we had some hiccups, bc of my previous bloody red color, she was able to still accomplish more than I ever expected. Not sure why they have such bad reviews, but I can only speak for Christine. She's AWESOME, reasonable, friendly, professional and most importantly not afraid to do what you asked. This was really, truly a 1 star experience for me. I basically never give out 1-star reviews, and I'm sure I will get flak for this, but I'm going to continue with this review anyway. This was my first time going to Salon Hyde Park. Now, I've been to some other salons around the area and have had a pretty wide variety of hair cut/dye experiences throughout the years. I've had highlights, short hair, long hair, extensions and was even platinum blonde at one point, so I've been around the block and know what's what and what's a good and bad job. I came in as part of a Groupon promotion for a hair dye and cut and was really excited to get my hair dyed since it had faded quite a bit since my last cut. Well, I was charged extra for my hair dye, which isn't a big deal since I do have a lot of hair, but the dye job was atrocious. I have dark brown hair and dark hair dye is notorious for dying your scalp if you don't protect it BEFOREHAND or get rid of the dye immediately as it touches your skin. Well, the girl I saw did a pretty sloppy job here. I had weird black spots all over my face when I left this place which was honestly pretty astonishing. I don't know if I caught this girl on a bad day or if it was just me, but I've never EVER been anywhere where they let patrons have dye on their scalp and faces like that. In terms of cut, the cut was fine. I needed a trim and that's what I got. Nothing too crazy. My stylist was kind of spaced out and shared weird details about her personal life that I probably would advise her not to give out to clients. I went into this salon twice and both times I came out with the exact opposite of what I wanted. The first time I went in to fix the patches of a previous box dye in which I told them i had stripped the color a couple days prior. Instead of a medium to light brown, my hair came out pitch black. That was in January. The second time was a couple days ago, since I had let all that dark fade out for the past 6 months I just wanted to get the red undertones out of my hair so it could be more neutral like my natural color. The girl lighted it with an ash color but instead now my hair is maroon/red all over and not even. I do not recommend this salon and I will never be going back to it. read more

I told her of my previous nightmare hair salon experience, explained what my hair use to look like and what I HOPED we could do with it. She reassured me it could happen! Full disclosure, I used a Groupon for a set of highlights and a conditioning treatment with Chelsea. I consider Groupon to be an opportunity for a business/business owner to get their name out their and if the service is good enough, bring customers back. Considering that, it was a massive failure. The highlights were fine. Not exactly what I wanted, but not terrible if you overlook the weird random bright blonde streak above my right ear (the rest were a caramel/chocolate brown). What really bothers me is that three days and two shampoos later, my hair STILL smells burnt. I probably should have addressed this when I smelled burning hair while she was blow drying my hair, but I figured she's a professional and I should trust her, right? A lesser issue was the generally unwelcoming vibe. The receptionist offered water, which was nice, but I didn't feel 100% comfortable walking into a place to which I'm entrusting many hair and physical image. Sorry for the mistakes as English is not my native language. I was very excited to get my hair dyes and cut. It's been a long time since my last dyed as I was traveling the last 6months. I have done many times my hair through a groupon and I have never been disappointed. It was most of the time better. All about hair is very important and makes me nervous. I bought a full highlights as I wanted a lot of highlights. I could have bought the partial highlight as I don't have a lot of hair at all and I had some old highlights (six months old). But I didn't want to be charge as I read on a review. So I was pretty excited. I asked for natural blond highlights. Nothing too crazy. I wanted what I had six months before as it was still on my hair. I'm dirty blond so I just like having discret blond highlights to make my hair color brighter and still natural. All my hairdresser for many years never had any trouble for that. Even some young girl who were still trained. The job was ATROCIOUS.... My hair was brass and some part ORANGE!!! I just got my hair done and I have brass hair. I asked for highlights everywhere even in the back. And I had a tons of highlight on the top which is not natural but just a little in the back. Enough to make my hair brass... When I want to make a pony tail or other artistic thing with my hair, I have very blond strand and dirty blond strand. It's ugly. My husband told me to go back to get it fix as I was very upset about it. I went back. I was afraid that she would not fixed it but she tried even it she was annoyed. she first did a tone to make my hair brighter. But she did it just on the top of my head. So the back is still orange, the top brighter but some strand are orange because it didn't work on some of them so orange it was. So she had to bleach again some of my highlights but it's not the same blond at all. As it was done after everything. She kind of kicked me out when she dried the orange strand to prove me that now it's not orange as I was complaining. I walked out of the salon with my hair wet and not brush!!!!!!!! I have never been to an unprofessional salon like that!!!!! I have never heard about something like that neither. I could have done the same at home with a bleach from a supermarket and some fold paper!!!!!!!! After that I had to buy a brass treatment from L'Oréal! And thankfully it makes my color similar everywhere but I am still brass. And I spent 20$ more because my hairdresser was incompetent!!! I've been coming to see Libby (the salon owner) every 6-8 weeks for 3 years. I'm naturally a dark blonde and initially came to see her after I'd let my natural color grow out and was ready to go back to highlighted blonde. I've never loved my hair more or felt it more healthy since Libby's been taking care of it. She's super personable and easy to talk to, which makes sitting in the chair for a few hours something to look forward to. I've recommended her to friends who now come to her solely as well. I feel like she truly understands her art and has passion for it. She recommends cuts, colors, or styles that will look best on you and give an honest opinion on a picture you've seen on Instagram and want to replicate. Very disappointed. I came in to get information as a new client at 1:23 on 10-6-16. Someone saw me walk in and didn't acknowledge me at all. Stood at the front desk and looked at their website a while but still not even a hello. Oh the joys of trying to find a stylist as a military wife. Finally given a greeting at 1:35 when another gal just walked in and was helped right away. When I did get a staff members attention the best she could tell me was to go to the website to see what each stylist does because they have no menu of services or way to schedule an appointment. They must do well by word of mouth I guess. Called the store owner to let her know about my experience and ask if they had a stylist who does relaxers and was told we would not be a good fit because I already wrote a negative post. Most people would like the opportunity to show you their best and prove the bad run in was a mistake, but at Salon Hyde Park they would rather you not come in. Safe to say this military spouse felt far from welcome and for the first time since moving here three months ago that not all of South Tampa sees money as green and business is good but more black or white. read more

I went to salon Hyde park and while the haircut I have isn't a total disaster, it isn't what I wanted and I am going somewhere else next week to fix it. She got basically what I was going for, sort of, after a while, but this cut ages me. Would recommend for color and basic cuts, would not recommend for anyone below 28 or who wants to look young. I've been going to Lauren Hurless for about 3 years now and she's amazing! After a previous hair stylist messed up my hair color, Lauren's the only one I trust with my hair. She really knows what she's doing. She makes sure that we're on the same page with the color I want when I show her a picture. She's dyed my hair blonde and then back to my natural color. My hair is so hard to color as it never reacts the way it should. It holds onto red like no other. She was able to give me an ashy blonde color, something that I didn't think was possible.
