Foolishly gave this salon a few chances--all were bad. I had experienced sudden massive hair loss and the last cut was the final one I'll have there. The stylist repeatedly, aggressively/rudely downplayed the hair loss and severely layered my hair, even though I had said layers were going to make my already thinning hair appear worse. It has been a disaster to try to now grow out this cut that makes absolutely NO SENSE for my hair. Her rudeness and obstinate refusal to take the thinning issue into consideration were highly unprofessional. All the stylists there seem to be somewhat friendly, but are all lacking skill in cutting and communicating with clients. One seems angry all the time. Never again. I recently had a unpleasant experience in this salon, I can't say anything bad about a pleasant interior, a location. I came there to make new style or at least hair cut for 3 years old girl, they washed hair 12 minutes with different adult products, why, this is just 3 year old child, but the haircut, ectulaly was 4 minutes. The stylist Alisha nibbled my baby's hair, nibbled so, the hair cut in general is disfigured and this cause to lost length of hair, so for now we have to do short hair cut to balanced this horror by Alisha.A couple of days later we came there to correct the situation by another barber since our hairdresser is on vacation, but there was not positive, proper result accure! No apologies were made from staff! Tense , cold, indifferent, robotlike atmosphere hovers around,except nice interior. As well I hope that the front desk lady will find her appropriate place for work and will be more happier at work. PS. Kiklo provides a 5 star experience with very talented, kind, and accommodating staff and stylists. My 4 year old daughter received her first haircut every today while I got a balayage and cut from the very talented Brittany. Olga was super sweet and fun with my daughter making her feel like a superstar through the whole experience and Brittany had mommy and daughter leaving feeling like a million bucks and looking like princesses. We love the place, people, and service and will never go anywhere else (unless they change location and we follow). read more

They don't know how to do proper highlights, my hair came out darker and barely there highlights. I payed over $200 for my hair to look dark ! I wanted a face frame highlights, my stylist changed her mind and just did a partial. So I didn't even get want I made the appointment for. Salon Kiklo is by far the best place I've been for highlights or style. I've been going for 3 years and have never been any thing but entirely thrilled. George, owner and colorist extraordinaire listens to what you want and gives expert suggestions. My hair is hard to color, changes with our well water, yet he always knows what to do. And, don't let the New Canaan address fool you. Salon Kiklo's a fun, casual, funky salon, great people, very low key...no stuffiness here!! I have gone to Salon Kiklo many times. I have found the customer service level and stylists to be fantastic. Stacy, who greats clients at the front is always helpful, cheerful, and does her best to fit you in even when you don't have an appt. but need a service. Lupe for blow dries is incredible. Better than every other stylist around Fairfield and NYC. The assistants are always very kind and ask to give you cappuccino's, sparkling water, etc. The colorists are also fantastic! I have gone to Ron, Greta, Heather and George. They take the time to learn what I want and how I might want to change my color from last time. I am a color experimenter. Everyone is cheerful, and very competent. I used to always go to NYC for my color and cuts. But no more. Salon Kiklo is great and I now have all my hair services done right in town! read more

I visited Salon Kiklo about a week ago for a last minute haircut. I was in town visiting and had stopped in to see if they happened to have any last minute appointments - my hair was getting shaggy and I was interviewing. I had luck on my side because they had a slot! I had my hair cut by George. After sitting in the chair for a few minutes, having him assess my style and ask me about what I was looking for, I was then taken to have my hair washed by Ron. The hair washing was unbelievable! I always feel like its an experience in itself and he did nothing short of making sure my experience was exceptional and was very attentive. There's nothing like a little head rub when you're being washed! George knew exactly what I was looking for based on our earlier discussion. He had taken into consideration the things I wanted, like keeping the length yet cleaning up and reshaping my hair. I have long, fine hair and it definitely hadn't been tended to correctly in a long time. The cut was great, even better, now when I style it by curling it looks fantastic! I have been to Salon Kiklo several times for highlights and haircuts. The staff that greet you are very friendly and the stylist that did my color/cut was excellent. The only thing that I found to be negative about Salon Kiklo, hence my reason for a less than perfect review, is that it seems like no one who works there gets along with each other. While sitting waiting for my color to set, or getting shampooed, every single time I went there - EVERY time, I witnessed an argument or tense moment between two or more stylists or assistants. It was very uncomfortable to sit there while the people that work there openly argue or have tension around you. I go to get my hair done as a necessity (ha) or to relax, and I always left thinking that it was a shame the staff was so contentious. I may return to the Salon in the future, but it has also made me look around for other options. read more

Jeanine cuts my hair and George is my colorist. I always leave feeling 100% more stylish than when I walked in. I have had Ron as an assistant several times and holy cow my shampoo was like a bonus spa experience! The last couple of times I went I had a new assistant named Denise who is just as amazing. I came in with a throbbing headache and a shampoo and condition with Denise worked wonders. At my last color appointment George tried a new technique from a recent class he had taken and I absolutely loved it. Jeanine has an artist's eye and just seems to know how to give my fine straight hair the "oomph" I want and she also takes my lifestyle into consideration. Both George and Jeanine always seem to be current on trends, products and technique. No soccer Mom bowl cuts here! I also came in with some dried, fried not fab strands and did a "power dose" conditioning treatment that worked wonders. Mallory cuts my 5 year old daughter's hair. She even showed me how to trim her bangs so I don't have to take her for constant trims. The salon introduced me to a new line of products by Kevin Murphy. I am an admitted product junkie but I have to say I am loving the dry shampoo, volumizing powder (applied as "just a sprinkle" which George took the time to demo on me) and the thickening cream. When my current shampoo and conditioner supply is done the KM line is next on my list. I love the downtown New Canaan location, especially when the weather is nice. The municipal parking lot located across the street is a bit of a pain if you are having a cut and color but if you tell Stacey at the front desk that you are parked in that lot she will have one of the assistants " feed" the meter. Also, I always feel comfortable here whether I am in sneakers and leggings or dressed with makeup and just waiting for the hair to go with it :). If I could give zero stars I would. I got hair extensions a few days ago, and was in town for a very special event, so I needed a blow out. I made an appointment in advance with someone who had experience working with hair extensions, and when I got there I asked her to be careful of the extensions. The girl who did my hair was really sweet but was tugging at the extensions so hard that the entire time I was getting my hair done I was literally wincing in pain. I told her it really hurt and she seemed confused as to why. I told her that they were being tugged on really hard (they're attached to my freaking HEAD). Then she said maybe it was the way the extensions were put in - but then continued to tug violently at my hair while blow drying it. I have only had my extensions in for a total of 6 days...they are supposed to last 6-8 weeks and a few are now FALLING OUT where she was tugging the hardest. My head still hurts in those areas too... I am just praying that it doesn't do permanent damage to my real hair/follicles since I am getting married in a few months. I have never had such a painful experience at a hair salon and all I did was go in for a blow out. I think my head is almost bruised. I have to go get my extensions fixed, which were several hundred dollars. The one good thing I will say is that the front desk tried to rush the stylist to finish me up (something that has happened there multiple times between me and my sister...) and the stylist refused because she knew it was a very special evening for me and didn't want to rush my style. The style did look beautiful - but again - my extensions are falling out and my head is so tender to the touch I am worried that my hair has been damaged. read more

This Salon I had heard was supposedly very good, maybe it was just my stylist who was not good. He hurt the heck out of my head while brushing and blowdrying it. I have fine hair, so it is very prone to tangling. He would constantly yank the brush through my hair and he kept apologizing for the horrifying sounds that my hair was making yet he continued to brush like a maniac. Once the hair cut was finished and I looked in the mirror, all around my head was a ring of broken hair, making a halo of broken hair stand up on my head. He didn't even bother to put in any hairspray to stop it from sticking up. I knew immediatly the cause.... His manic brushing. My scalp still aches from the pain he caused me. I am never going back there again. If you do, go at your own risk of extreme hair damage. read more

Went in for a balayage which I have been getting at other salons for months now and love. Came out from kiklo after getting it done there and was completely disappointed with the final result. Not only was the service extremely slow but I did not get what I asked for. Afterwards, when calling to explain that I was dissatisfied and would like a refund- even offered to willingly pay for just half of the hair style, the staff was completely and utterly rude and unwilling to work with me. Firstly - my two teenage children have been going to Kiklo for a few years now and I'm usually incredibly happy with the results. George, Heather and Janine are brilliant. I'm sure others there are great too - I've just always dealt with George, Heather and Janine. I have just returned home from Kiklo and I'm fuming. George - who is amazing - is away so I had to have someone else. I received a 'trim' to my short hair. It took 15 mins and I now have the hair of a 10 year old boy. No product in it to finish it off or try to give it any style. 15 mins in the chair getting sprayed with water and hair being cut. A perfunctory blow dry. Then after this speedy haircut I was charged $120 because my hair was cut by Sophie - a 'master' hair dresser. Seriously!? I am moving overseas and this was my last visit and I'm so disappointed that my last experience was so exasperating. And my hair looks like that of a 10 year old boy. If you go, ensure you see George for cut/color/style or Heather for a cut or Janine for a color. read more

I've been going to this salon since it opened and I love it more every time I go. This past visit, I had my hair cut for the first time in three years. They offered to donate my hair for me and gave me the best transformation I could have ever asked for. The colorist and stylist listened when I detailed my level of maintenance when it comes to my hair and made suggestions for the type of cut and color I should have based on this. Their attentiveness to my needs was outstanding and their coloring techniques were new and innovative. I would recommend everyone to try this salon, although it is pricey, it is well worth every cent. read more

Tried this salon for a year. Staff not terribly friendly and many seem right out of the owner's beauty school. Thea did foils for me and has a great technique and color choices but forces you into a highlight/lowlight/highlight/lowlight pattern. During the summer I knew I was due for a lowlight and asked her to keep the bright sunny color but was lowlighted anyway. When I complained her answer was to simply strip the color out leaving me with brassy roots that looked terrible. She is often overbooked and once left me sitting at the hair wash station for over 20 minutes then kept blaming her assistants. I tried a few stylists over the year there and was given dirty looks by the old stylist when trying a new one. Blowouts were amateurish. The last straw was when I brought in a picture of a cool shaggy, long layered cut and they left me with a collarbone length blunt cut. There was no miscommunication, I had a picture! Parking is a nightmare as they are metered spots only good for 2 hours, if you need a full head of foils, cut then blowout you'll need to feed the meter at some point. read more
