While we were in Boston for the weekend we realized we were both way behind schedule for needing a haircut. I found Salon Lison as the closest Aveda salon, and thankfully they were able to squeeze both of us into a quick trim appointment. Parking here is a nightmare. We circled the block multiple times before we thought we had found a place, but the signs were so confusing and the options were so limited, we weren't sure. Finally we found a spot way up the street, so we snagged it and hoofed it back to the salon. Inside it has a typical Aveda vibe, and nobody greeted us when we arrived. Despite having an appointment, we were taken late and nobody was keeping us updated on the wait time which was frustrating. Once we got to talk to someone, our stylist cut hubby's hair first. She was fast and efficient, but the cut was nothing special. I was next, and despite only literally trimming the ends, she charged me for a complete wash and full haircut. I was surprised about this, and she didn't try to adjust anything for us. Prices were high, service was inattentive, and product (haircut) was ok but not great. Wasn't the worst Aveda experience I've ever had, but its also definitely not the overall Aveda quality I would expect from the brand. I wouldn't likely return, as it seemed like their preferred clients are local Boston wives in their 50's and we just didn't fit their profile (and they made it obvious). read more

She is the best. I completely trust her and when I come out of the salon, I feel like a "new younger me". And I always get compliments after I visit the salon. Was searching for a good salon for a haircut and blow dry for quite a while now and finally found this gem! Sheila accommodated me last min and got me in between her appointments. She was beyond professional. She knew what she was doing and boy she was quick! All done in 40mins. (Hair wash+cut+blowout). Clearly she's a very experienced hair stylist. She gave me an amazing hair cut that flatters the shape of my face and added volume to my hair. I love that they use Aveda products since I've been using them for quite some time and they are really good. I'm super happy since such great stylists are so hard to find and super expensive! I've been going to Lisa for several years now. They only use Aveda products (why I chose them). I love the color and cuts. They always try to accommodate schedule changes even if Lisa isn't available. I appreciate that flexibility! All of the stylists are very talented and friendly! Pricing is in line with other salons in the area and given the prices of Aveda products is quite reasonable. Tip: if you go there on a Saturday you will get to taste Lisa's amazing cakes! Nothing exceptionally good; nothing exceptionally bad. I needed to get my hair done and this place is around the corner from my mom's place, there you go. My blow dry girl was good on the shampoo, good on the blow dry, friendly but not chatty, thorough but not exhausting. I paid $37, which seems to be middle ground, between the place near my house and Newbury Street. My sister comes here for waxing and likes the service she gets there. I was recovering from surgery and could not wash my own hair. My hair guy was way too expensive for a blow out (Davis Salon in Newton Highlands), so I thought I would try the Aveda since they at least have to abide by some kind of standard. NOT! The shampoo and condition was fine. No complaint there. But that's honestly the only positive thing I can say. Let me preface this with: I should have known better. I called on a Thursday morning and the guy had openings for Saturday morning. What hair stylist can fit you in on that short of notice on the busiest day? Should have known! His name was John. He started by pulling out the most disgusting looking brush I've ever seen and brushing my hair. No comb in site. I asked for a blow out and style. He blew out my hair with no product. He claims he put leave in conditioner into it. He didn't know how to work his round brush - when I finally did see a round brush. I had the frizziest disgusting mess of a hair do that I have ever had. No shape, no style at all. Then he had the audacity to say "you don't get your hair cut very often, do you?". I just got it cut two weeks ago. Has he ever cut anyone's hair that actually styles it every day??? Honestly, my husband could have washed and blow dried my hair better! No exaggeration. He also cut my 7-year old daughter's hair - which I'm not usually too picky about. BUT totally ignored the directions. She was a little upset about it. She asked for slant (short in back, longer in front) with stack in the back and bangs and ended up with a bob. Straight up bob. At least it looks halfway decent. Whatever. This guy is totally out of his league. I really thought you couldn't screw up a blow out and style, but I was MISTAKEN!!! And very disappointed in Aveda. They also do eyebrow waxing ($15) if needed, and I usually do. Service was great atmosphere was good and every one I encountered was very friendly, too. I'll definitely go again. Been going to this salon for almost a year now... and I have a great experience EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!! I love to experiment with different styles and colors, and Ashlee and Lisa are always so helpful with my daunting decision making!! I immediately feel like my hair is in good hands (I don't easily trust people with my hair). While my color processes, chatting and listening to the staff and clients interact is so fun and relaxing. I may not know everyone in the salon at the time, but I feel super comfortable and at home. When my hair is done, and I'm looking in the mirror with a smile ear to ear, all the stylists share my excitement with compliments and pleasantries, and I walk out feeling like a supermodel. Yesterday I was so busy flipping my hair and strutting across the street, I almost got hit by a car. Will I go back?? Uhhh... yeah! Obviously! When I found this place a couple of years ago, I was so excited. I had been looking for a salon since I moved to the area, and Lison was reasonably priced, it had Aveda products, parking wasn't a problem, and my first cut and color was fantastic. I've been going every few months for a couple of years now, and sadly the cuts/ color have really become mediocre and the prices a bit spendy for the quality. Nothing special. My cut was decent, but the stylist (Tida) left bad roots when she did my color. Literally half inch from my scalp. For the price I paid, it wasn't a good job. I only went in here to buy product (Aveda) and the owner (I assume)...was rude, brash, and abrasive. There were two customers in the salon and he was yelling at/to them. He ignored me when I entered and almost pushed me out of the way, and then refused to ring me up! He made me wait until his 'human calculator' assistant did it. After his customers left he was screaming on his cell phone. The assistant and another employee just looked at each other and rolled their eyes. Holy uncomfortable! I have been going to see Danielle for over a year now, and she is so wonderful. My highlights always come out AMAZING, and she has even done an up do for me that withstood unseasonably hot May temperature and ridiculous 85% humidity. I have been going to Salon Lison for years, first for haircuts and color, and now also for facials and waxing. The service is professional and friendly, and I've always been happy with the results! I really like that the stylists aren't pushy about buying lots of products; recently, when I asked about having an expensive procedure done on my hair, the stylist told me I didn't need it and to save my money, which makes me more willing to pay for the things I do need. I won a gift certificate for a free shampoo and blow dry with Ashlee. She's the nicest btw. It was very therapeutic getting my hair washed and dried. She styled my hair so the ends curled. It took about a half hour to get my hair done. Don't let the exterior of the building deter you from going! I've past by there so many times, and the inside was surprising upscale looking. The receptionist and stylist Tida were both extremely friendly. The salon is modern and clean and the prices are right. Is there an option for no star?I chose this place because of Avedo products. Mission was foiling very cool and dark shade of brown on my natural brown color. I explained it to Tina, the hair dresser and showed he the shade that I dreaded. 'Not to look like this.' I asked not to use bleach. To make the story short, all my worst fears happened. I heard good things about Jon through a friend and decided to give him a try. He did a great job and wasn't irritated when I showed up a little late. He was also a really funny guy. I had a wonderful experience! My criteria for a hair salon is an Aveda Salon that is affordable, which is challenging in Boston. My hair is fine and my long term plan is to grow it out, so it's not the easiest hair to work with. Tia was my hair specialist. She did an amazing job with the highlights/color ($117) and trim ($45). If you are a new client, make sure you print out the 20% coupon on the website. I never felt pressured to buy products. Parking was easy (and apparently there is a T stop close). I went to this Salon as I was in the neighborhood, and desperately needed my bangs fixed. I dropped in, and they were able to take me within a few minutes. Salon is clean and pretty, with a whole section/room devoted to Aveda products. The girl, Tida, did a great job. Everyone was friendly. No charge for the bang trim. I'll definitely go back to get a haircut and see what happens. Tida seemed to understand my hair type, and also how to cut it so it works with my facial bone structure. She did a good job with my bangs. Only downside so far is parking: is mostly metered, and hard to get a spot nearby you may have to walk a couple of blocks. Zero Stars is what i would give. I had one of the worst experiences here ever. Went in for a bikini wax and the woman could not get the wax off!! I was literally covered in it and she was running around frantic but couldn't figure out what to do. I left covered in wax and in tears. Worst experience ever. read more
