I had a bit of a 'hair emergency' this Sat morning. I'd colored my roots and was about to head out to my appointment (highlights, cut, style) when my stylist of 10+ years from an unrelated salon texted- she was down with some sort of horrible cold or flu. I was headed out of town on business before the salon would be open again. Meeting my new co-workers next week- I needed cut and highlights today. As I as working to identify possible salons to call, I remembered Dellaria. I had several facials there in the past. I called (great hours- open 7am daily, a little later Sun, and closed Mon). They made me an afternoon appt. with Yelena-her only open slot. I arrived armed with photos and some specifics from my stylist. I hadn't had anyone else touch my hair in 10+ years. I just hoped for some decent highlights and cut- didn't need to be exactly like my previous cut/highlights for me to be happy. Yelena did a fabulous job- she listened, asked questions, and looked at my photos. Very happy with my highlights and cut-great experience. Busy salon- many stylists and stations. Great first-time cut and color experience. I haven't used a chain salon before and was apprehensive because my hair is difficult and I have allergies so I can't tolerate all color ingredients. I provided my formula (even though it was from a different brand) and a description of my hair when I made the online appt. My stylist was Anita and she was terrific, very careful about getting the color to match and making some good suggestions about what I might do to liven up my style through her cutting techniques. Aside from his truly awesome personality, charm and positive vibe, he is the definition of what it means to be a stylist. The only reason this is not a 1 star review is because the salon manager was extremely kind and helped me get my hair re-done at a different location. I went into the salon asking for my hair to go from a red brown color to a warm brown color. I was starting with a red color in my hair that was probably around a level 4. The stylist I had did not do a very through consultation with me and showed up 10 minutes late. I showed the stylist a picture of a warm brown color I wanted. The stylist told me I would need highlights to achieve the color. I explained to her that I had layers of box color and professional color in my hair and that I was not sure how well my hair would lift. The stylist told me she was confident and tried to talk me out of wanting a test strand to see how the color would lift. This should have been my sign to leave! It took a bit of convincing before she agreed to do the test strand for me. I showed her the inspiration picture for the color I wanted and left with red hair and CHUNKY GRAY HIGHLIGHTS. It was horrible. While my hair was processing my stylist was not regularly checking my foils so my hair also ended up severely damaged. I am so disappointed because even after another dellaria location fixed my hair I am still dealing with the negligence of the first stylist's mistakes. I have had to cut huge chunks of my hair that overpriced and a chunk at the front of my hair has a chemical cut now. Please go literally anywhere else to get your hair colored. Had an hour long massage with glenis today. Glenis is nice however the salon is in dire repair. The massage was done in the basement "spa" which smelled and had no AC (was informed after I arrived that it's been broken for weeks). It's clear the owners don't care about maintaining their space. Another note- I was told there would be showers but when I inquired about it post service as I was dripping in massage oil, I was told the showers are usually used for "storage" I was eventually led to a shower room that was worse that the showers at planet fitness. Overall not impressed, there's so many spas in the area that are similarly priced and are much nicer. read more

The salon is dirty and falling apart. It is in the basement level and smells damp and musty/moldy. I had to find my way through empty weird rooms and plastic room dividers. Stylists don't wear aprons or any kind of "uniform" so that also felt less sanitary and less professional. I was tense throughout my time there because it was so dirty and uncomfortable. I also had a headache when I left because the smell of chemicals was so strong. I asked for a simple haircut but didn't get it. It's a really bad cut and this place isn't cheap. My stylist did not speak to me once during the hour long appt. The whole experience was awful. PS: Look at all the 1 star reviews in the "not recommended" section. read more

Well I have to say that I just experienced the worst service ever at a hair salon in my life. I had just come back from going out with my husband when I saw that my daughter had returned from the salon and the result was horrible. She had gone for a cut and color. There was hair color all over her face and neck. She explained to me that the stylist at the salon had also l told her that the style that she wanted was ugly. Instead, she ended up with basically a trimming. So not only did they do a very bad job with coloring her hair (and her whole face and neck) they also didn't listen to my daughter and give her the hairstyle that she wanted. On top of that my daughters hair is thick and luscious. The stylist with the thinning hair had the nerve to tell her that her hair was too thick, and throughout the time that she was cutting my daughters hair she kept commenting that her hair was too thick. This is terrible service I would not recommend going to this place for my worst enemy. In a certain sense the comments about the thick hair were borderline racist. Hi, Shauna gave me a shellac manicure on Friday, 1/25/19. The appt was scheduled from 4-4:45p.m. I was supposed to get a pedicure too but cancelled it the day before due to not having enough time. I ended up being there from 4-5:30 just for the manicure! Shauna was friendly but did not do a good job. She didn't cut my cuticles (used a tool instead) and they're a mess now. She also didn't cover my nails completely with polish (big space between cuticle and where she started to apply polish). The gel mani she removed (had it for two weeks) looked better than the one she gave me. I expected after her spending 90 minutes on my nails they'd be perfect. The mani was $20.19 but not worth it. I hate to be this person and rarely leave negative reviews, but I've never had an experience like this in my life. I asked Gerry to lighten my hair a few shades, to a dark dirty blonde (to whatever degree would cause minimal damage and look fully natural). I stressed that I strongly dislike any red or coppery tones in my hair, and we agreed on lightening about two shades, with an assurance there would be no red. My boyfriend and each of my family members said, completely unprompted, "Did you get your hair done? It looks red-- did you have it dyed?" No one thought it looked any lighter. I took photos inside and outside to bring back to the salon the next day, demonstrating just how red my hair was. The stylist and his colleague insisted that it didn't look red, and that the color was "beautiful." I am still taken aback that this business would try to persuade me that what I was seeing with my own eyes is wrong. After a lot of back and forth, they finally extended a very reluctant offer to redo my hair or refund the visit. Yet they pushed me to to try their purple shampoo first and see if I felt differently after a few days. I was shocked at this point they were actually trying to sell me something. Gerry also insisted that the color would lighten more during the summer months. More than four months later, my hair looks exactly the same. I feel upset every time I look in a mirror or see a photo of myself. My boyfriend remarks regularly, "Your hair is red," and he has noted of nearly every photo taken since, "Look how red your hair is!" It doesn't look the slightest bit lighter, only redder. I wish constantly I had never come here in the first place. I hate the way my hair looks, and every time I see myself now I feel regret. I've always been flexible and adventurous with my hair, and never understood friends' hesitation about going to a new stylist or how they become attached to "the one hairdresser they trust," but this experience wiped out my trust in hairdressers. Now, I'm afraid to even go anywhere to have my hair redone in attempt to fix this. I wouldn't come back to Dellaria if they paid me. Steer clear!!!! read more

This salon is getting 2 stars because of their pleasant reception staff. They greet you when you come in and are great over the phone. I'm new to the area so I purchased a Gilt city for two gel mani's to try out the salon and find hopefully a long term nail tech. My first visit I checked in, then proceeded downstairs to the nail techs. There was about 6 on staff, all with clients, so I understand they are busy. But not ONE looked up to greet me, I awkwardly sat down and hoped that my nail tech Tiffany would mention my name. The appointment went well, I was happy with my nails, Tiffany was very nice and took her time. I'd give them a 8/10, they lasted for 2+ weeks. My second appointment I had to reschedule, so when I called the women on the phone was once again pleasant and helpful. She said "Tiffany left unexpectedly". No problem, I scheduled my next one with Diana. My appointment was 9am on a Saturday. I showed up at 8:52am and went downstairs. No nail techs were in yet so I patiently waited. A gentleman walked by to ask who I was seeing, "she should be here shortly". He was very nice, checked on me once more since 9am came around. 9:05 Diana showed up, so of course we started a few minutes after that. She was very careless and seemed to not want to put her energy into my nails. She also answered her personal cellphone and talked while still working on me. As you can see in my pictures, she didn't clean up the sides of my nails, the gel was on my skin which made it ONLY last 3 days when it lasts 14-18 on me. Want to know the worse part? My boyfriend proposed THAT day and my nails looked like shit. I just got them done at a different salon today, note the second half of the first picture. They are so cleaned up and perfect!!! Maybe Diana is great with her usual clients, But I can tell you I will not recommend this salon to any of my friends. read more

It's been a hunt to find a place where they can cut hair evenly. The young lady finished and I clearly saw my hair uneven and not as Short as I asked. I said to the lady: here is not even, and even though we were looking at the same thing she couldn't understand my hair wasn't as I asked for. Of course she applied the old let's blow dry the hair so the costumer can't see the uneven ends. Another hair salon that didn't pass the test with the easiest hair cut one can ask for. As far as their spa services go - I think that there are two Aesthetician's here that I would consider superior: Willow and Kerry. They are friends, they've worked together and shared an "office" for years, and they do a wonderful job. Ask for them, and you'll be happy. Great salon! I live nearby and take advantage of their bundle blowouts ($99 for 5 blow outs). I have seen both Vanessa & Jerei (have had multiple appointments with both of them) and they both do a great job on my hair. Constantly great washes/blow drys. I always leave happy. Beyond the great service at the salon, I also enjoy the fact that I don't need to worry about figuring out parking (can be tough in Newton Centre) as Dellaria has a parking lot and complementary valet too. I went to Dellaria after I had a really bad experience with a salon about 2-3 months ago. Since my experience I haven't cut my hair and I've been dying from a box...eww! I went to Dellaria on a whim because I was desperate for a style and to cover my roots! I upon walking in I was so nervous because the first floor seems too quiet, but the bottom floor seems a bit too chain salon like. Annmarie did my hair and I was freaking out when she told me to pick a color swatch of hair color I liked....ummm how old school?! She was very very very busy and I was getting a bit worried that she kept walking away and answering phone calls while processing my color. The whole experience took about 2 hours, but the cost was super low (compared to newbury st. Prices in Boston). She was very much a talker and Having had a bad experience previously at another salon I was just so nervous I wasn't going to get anything I was looking for. Wellll......I was wrong!!! Yup, I can admit when I'm wrong, I was wrong. This hair cut was perfect! The color was perfect! The best part about my hair cut and color? It still looks like it did when I first got it done and the cut is so well done that its easy for me to style it quickly every day! I've been here a number of times for cuts and color. The price is average for a woman's cut/color etc. I find that the hair stylists tend to over book, which means a cut that should only take 30mins, ends up being an hour or hour and a half ordeal - a cut and color once took me 3 hours. I'm not sure if that is due to the fact that there is a lot of turnover or what, but it's rather frustrating. I have better things to do with my day than sit around a salon waiting to be paid attention to. But beyond that, service is decent and the staff there is friendly. read more

Where to begin with this horrible experience I had yesterday at this salon... I booked my appointment online for a cut and blow dry, I have never been at this Dellaria salon location so I was not sure who to book it with but needed a last minute evening appointment (mistake on my part for not calling them to ask who is best recommended). As I booked online, I added in the comment box that I have hair extentions in so that the hair stylist will know ahead of time. As I got to the appointment and checked in at the front desk, I went all the way downstairs to where the actual salon was, I was then greeted by a sweet older hair stylist. I'm not going to lie, as nice as she was, I was nervous as to how she will cut my hair. I didn't need anything too complicated, just a few inches off and longer layers. I immidiately saw the technique of how she was cutting (straight across) instead of into the hair in order for the hair and the layers to blend in together. I am no hairdresser but I know the different ways of cutting hair and how it will end up looking like. At this point it was too late. The hair stylist clearly has not learned newer cutting techniques in many many years and it resulted with my hair looking super choppy, basically as if a 5 years old just cut my hair with some scissors. Nothing is blended in nicely. On top of the horrible hair cut, there is clearly no communication with the front desk who receives the online bookings and the hair stylists. They never told her I had hair extentions and she had to ask me if I wanted to dry my hair (when I clearly booked a cut and blow dry, so yes I would like my hair dried). If the front desk had told her I had hair extentions, and she wasn't comfortable with it, they should have called me and told me to book with someone else. Aside from the fact that the whole experience was horrible (including the hair stylist asking me if I get grey hair out of the blue for no reason... mind you i'm 27), the cut is just so so bad. I'm not naming the hair stylist because I feel bad as she was super sweet otherwise. but I will warn everyone to either call and ask the front desk for recommendations (hopefully if they even know) or not come here at all. read more

2 reasonably good haircuts this summer and then - YIKES??? What happened?? My Saturday appointment went like this, 25 minutes in the chair; chop chop - any old how, followed by a 1 minutes... close your eyes while I blow the loose, cut hair off your shoulders followed by a bye-bye! Really? What happened to drying my hair? It was cold on Saturday and I was sent out of there with wet hair! No product (other than the shampoo and conditioner by Jeremy - who, by the way is super nice), and, what's more it wasn't till I got to the car that I realized I had not even been shown the back of my head!!! All of that for $55 plus 2 tips. By the time I got home - the hair was plastered to my head and I had to get into the shower to rewash it and blow dry it. Now it sticks out at the sides - I hate it. Ah well Dellaria.... ok here's the deal. the building blows. It's an awkward building on two floors one below the parking area. and it's pretty dumpy looking. You can tell Dellaria doesn't spend much making it look fancy (like say Lords and Ladys in West Roxbusy does). The receptionists are so transient they basically NEVER have a clue. They never recognize people, they call to confirm standing appointments randomly (they never used to call since people that have a standing usually know when their appointment is) and now I get random calls, and then when I leave they ask if I want to rebook. um no. I'm a standing. Have been for almost a decade, perhaps you should pay a little attention to who comes in here every week? but honestly do you come here for the freaking receptionist? No. So who cares if they are clueless... You come here for some kind of service. And those folks have been here a long time, have lots of dedicated customers, and do a fantastic job. I've been seeing Ella for my manicures and pedicures for close to a decade now. I have a standing bi-monthly appointment. She's great to talk to and does a fantastic job. In fact, I have never gone to anyone that gives a better french mani or pedi than her. I drive totally out of my way to come here, because I have never found anyone better. Since she's great and been here a long time - she's almost always booked, and always requested. Today, as always - a perfect manicure and nice conversation. Also Willow and Kerry are fantastic for waxing and facials - I have gone to both several times. so spa/salon staff: 5 stars quality of salon: 2 stars quality of receptionists: ranging from 1 to 3 stars depending. read more

I was so happy with my services today that I had to make a comment. The 5 star rating is for Kashmira, a licensed aesthetician that I have been going to for waxing appointments. Whether it is a bikini, underarm or eyebrow, she takes the utmost care when doing her work. She is thorough and detail oriented. To add to all of this, she has a wonderful and caring personality. I always feel like I'm visiting an old friend. I refuse to go to anyone else. Today I had my first facial. I am getting over Bell's Palsy and thought a face massage would help with the muscles in my face. I was very happy that I gave it a try because my face feels much looser and the numbness is not as bad. She also educated me on the redness on my face (rosia? spelling). The doctor just prescribed face creams. Kashmira told me to not eat spicy foods for 2 months and that I would see a difference. Spicy food is a big part of my meals but I will try it out for 2 months to see. I learned more at today's facial appointment than I ever did with the dermatologist. I definately will be going to her more frequent now. I also found the the reception desk to be very nice. read more

I had a so so experience at this salon. First off I like the location and my stylist was very nice, I believe her name was Cindy, it was a few months ago so I could be wrong. I had a little trim, touched up my highlites and was happy with my hairctu. I wasn't happy was the person that cut my daughters hair, I can tell at the beginning she was not happy cutting a child's hair. I understand a lot of children can be very tough to work with. my daughter acted just fine and listen to her stylist instructions,her haircut was very poor in my opinion and the stylist kept telling her to stop moving, I don't think she was moving at all, I don't even really understand what the stylist was talking about. I give my five-star rating to Master Colorist Loren Squyers! He is an absolute artist with color, I have seen some incredibly beautiful colors he has done on other clients, and he's done wonders with mine through the 15 years I have been going to him, as my hair has gotten grayer and mousier through time. He is also the sweetest guy, and I cannot imagine ever having a different stylist. I also go for waxes in the Day Spa, everyone is high quality and I have never been disappointed. I don't play favorites here though, I always take whoever is available before or after my appointment. I have never had a facial, although I'm tempted to try one every time I go. They even do Botox and alot more. The building is awkward, not wheelchair accessible. I don't know how someone who can't handle steep stairs would ever be able to go, I sure wish they had an elevator since I've even had problems sometimes when my asthma was acting up. All in all though, given the high calibre of all of their stylists, I highly recommend Dellaria Day Spa. read more

I figured I should complete the Review Trifecta for Dellaria Salons and pipe in with my (admittedly, limited) experiences at the Newton location. I have visited this location twice - once for a simple haircut and the other for a hair fix (meaning, someone messed up a cut horribly at another salon and I needed it fixed immediately; a friend was going to this Dellaria so I got an appointment that day with him.) I was seen by Vito for the fix, and a lovely lady for the regular haircut whose name I unfortunately forget. However, both cuts - diverse as they were - were great! And speedy. I was in and out of there within a half hour, even with a hair washing and blow dry. Amazing, especially considering how thick and long my hair is (usually 30 minutes plus to just dry it.) The Kenmore location is closer to my locale, and thus my first choice for my salon needs, but I highly recommend this salon to anyone! read more

So first off I have always wanted to go in here simply because the building is really cool looking from the outside, and well - I love circular architecture. From the outside it looks really tiny, but the part that is visible from the street is only the register area and the 'shop' (for products etc). Downstairs they have a separate room for nails, a spa room, and a huge open-floor layout for the salon area. The decor is really neat, and they have it set up kinda like an underground oasis. Tons of natural light and its large enough that you could comfortably come for a spa treatment without being in ear shot of the salon part. Prices are competitive for the area, and standard to the Dellaria chain. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and helpful. They also have an ATM inside which is convenient. Her facials are must have She helped me to clear my skin and now I enjoy my blemish free and radiant skin ‍ She's very consistent and she will give you advice on how to take care of yourself, as her approach to treating skin is holistic.
