Upon reading other people's comments, I can't help but wonder if we went to the same place. I was a walk-in on Tuesday for an eyebrow threading. The place I usually go to had closed and after having two botched jobs at two other places, I finally got a decent threading while visiting in upstate New York, but needed someone to do them properly down here. I explained my concerns to the young woman and she not only listened carefully but said she'd stop partially way through to ensure I was happy with what she was doing (which she did and which I was). She is a painless threader (I don't know if it's the type of thread or not but in some establishments, I've found threading hurts). She also meticulously checked for stray hairs. I will be back; Behshid did a great job and I'm thrilled to find a great place to go. read more

I should have known a totally empty place on a Sunday - while the one nextdoor was booked for the day - was not a good idea. I just wanted my bangs trimmed and now they look terribly crooked. She didn't know what a straightener was. I needed to say iron. She turned it on, didn't know how to use it and I had to do the job for her. She ended up burning herself, things got super awkward and I just wanted to leave that place. I felt so nervous that gave her a 10 dollar tip. I had a gift certificate and they told me that it didn't have the original value because it had been resold to the radio station I got it from. Who would ever say something like this? Just don't do it. Went here for hair trial for formal event. Was disappointed by the overall cavalier attitude of the owner/stylist. Staff was not much better. The salon is located in a shopping center where 80% of the store fronts are not in business or empty, makes for not so good feeling about the future of this place. Other problems I had: was quoted one price on the phone and then charged a higher price at store, had product pushed on me, complained about a couple of aspects of the hair style she did and she did not offer to fix the problems but rather said she'd fix on day of (what is the point of the trial then??). My friend had booked all us bridesmaids and mothers of the groom and bride to get hair and make up done here at 10:30am. I show up to the salon at 10:30 and the lights are off and the doors are locked despite the door saying they open at 10am. I called the salon but there was no answer. For a big day like a wedding I expected the salon to be open at the time of the appointment. We weren't taken immediately to get our hair and make up done as the owner decided to work in a woman who was doing a trial for hair an make up for her wedding at least several weeks away from that day. The owner even commented that she would have to "work SO hard to make the mother of the bride look beautiful" the other bridesmaid and I couldn't believe our ears. Her daughter had to start my make up over twice because my face was so heavily made up when I had showed her pictures of natural make up examples in my phone. The daughter also curled my hair for which she didn't curl the ends like other professional stylists had done in the past. A hair protectant was also not applied. I could've easily curled my own hair at home. Her mother had to "fix" my hair by curling the rest of the ends and pinning my hair off my face. She also burnt my ear with the curling iron. As soon as I finished I asked the girl behind the desk (her other daughter) to ring me up. She asks her mother how much and I pay. As we are leaving it turns out the bride had already paid and I was double charged by the daughter whom the owner says, "she didn't know" yet the mother had told her how much to charge me. The owner took so long taking pictures and commentary videos that we were late leaving the salon to get to the venue which led her to not being able to refund mine and the other bridesmaids double-charged service. We were able to work it out over the phone after a couple of days. One major plus that keeps this review from being a 1-star was the make up artist that did the bride's make up. She did a magical job and was clearly more professional like other make up artists. She wore all black shirt and pants instead of off-shoulder flutter-sleeved tops and skirts and her hair was tied back professionally. I wish I could find her so I can tip her personally. read more

I felt cheated here. I went for a walk-in eyebrow and upper lip threading after checking Google reviews--not Yelp reviews. As soon as I was in the chair I felt a little bit like the threader was passive-aggressively making fun of my haircut. But okay, that could be a cultural misunderstanding. (Probably not, though, considering I lived in the Middle East 5 years so I know that sarcastic tone well.) In any case, every threading place I've ever been to (over a dozen) includes the chin and a little bit of the underside of the chin in an "upper lip threading". Their price for the upper lip certainly suggests they too will include that. But they don't. And so when she stopped at the upper lip, I inquired, and she said okay, we can do more, and she made no mention of the fact that she would now charge me for a full-face threading. Had she done so, I'd have immediately said, "Well okay then, if I'm going to pay for a full-face threading, let's just go ahead and do the whole face." In fact, I had already mentioned to her that I have my full face threaded every few months, so she knew I do that. But she said nothing. In fact, soon after I asked for my chin to be done, another client of hers walked in, at which point I was suddenly, "Fine. It's fine. You're fine." No asking me to check whether it was fine (even if the lighting in there permitted a good check, which it doesn't) or handing me a mirror to make sure I was happy, just a rushed, "You're fine [now get out of the chair so I can get on with my regular clients]". So only when I arrived at the cash register did I discover that I was being charged for a full-face threading even though my forehead and cheeks were never touched. When I realized I was being deliberately overcharged, I turned back to the threader to see if I could actually get a full-face threading, since I was paying for it. But there was already someone else in her chair and she was fully engaged with them. At which point the cashier began to look impatient and rush me--again--so I just paid and got out of there. For this reason alone, I would never go back. I felt the pricing was unfair and the method of charging it dishonest. If you are going to charge for a full-face threading when you're not giving someone a full-face threading, you need to at least mention the fact so the person can decide what they want to do before you do the work. To do otherwise is deceptive and unethical. (I nearly forgot to mention: The cashier actually asked me--multiple times!--if I wanted to add a tip. At salons, I've always had to ask myself whether/how I can leave a tip. For the cashier to ask feels tacky, like a pressure tactic. It was awkward.) As for the quality of the work: My lip was done shoddily (I got home and found stray hairs) and my eyebrows are even, but they only have an arch if you think an arch should go up but not come back down. I could tell even while she was threading that, in many places, she was just running the thread along the surface of the skin without pulling out any hairs. Which is why it was so important to me that I be given opportunity to check the work myself. But at every point, I was rushed. So even if I didn't feel cheated, I still wouldn't go back, because Vienna and Herndon have amazing threading salons with mind-blowing threaders, outstanding customer service, and far better pricing. I'd rather drive further and be happy with the threading--and not get cheated. A final note: Compare the rating of this salon on Yelp with the rating on Google. There is a massive discrepancy. Yelp has checks in place to ensure that reviews are honest and by real customers. Google does not, and I am not the first Yelp reviewer to feel this place does business dishonestly. Read all of the reviews in both places and decide for yourself what's going on. I, for one, will never again make a purchase decision after reading only the Google reviews. If I could give 0 stars I would. I wanted an angled haircut... a lob. I basically got a straight bowl cut bob. There were no layers and it looked nothing like the picture I showed her. She knew I didn't like it so I asked for layers. The owner/hairstylist was arguing with me about how my hair didn't need layers and how my hair was currly so it wouldn't look good. My hair has never been curly a day in my life and looks very flat without layers. Anyway, she made a smartass comment, "Okay, your the boss." Then gave me very little layers. I was calling around on a holiday looking for a salon that had availability. I was pleasantly surprised that Salon Montage told me I could arrive in about 40 minutes and be seen for a haircut. 40 minutes later I walked through the door and waited to be seen. I should have realized something was very off because there was only one stylist present and 3 other clients... On a holiday! I hoped my stylist was in the back finishing up a break... Then the stylist that was running back and forth between the three clients motions to a girl to take me back to get me started on the shampoo. I was really looking forward to this part, because in my opinion, the shampooing of the hair should be one of the highlights of a haircut and a reason you choose a salon over a barber.... Anyway, the girl leaned me back and wet the very crown of my head with cold water, she then proceeded to RUB shampoo into the top of my head for about 5 seconds, not even touching the sides or the length of my hair. There was no massage, no warm water, no washing of my hair. She ran the cold water over my hair again applied conditioner to the top of my hair, rinsed it out, and told me to wait in the chair. I touched my hair and felt a bunch of suds that hadn't been washed away... Okay, so maybe I'm spoiled and not all salons give great shampoos. That was fine because I was still pumped that I had found a salon available to take me at such short notice. After sitting at the shampoo station for 10 minutes with cold wet hair the stylists beckoned me over and tells me to sit in one of the styling chairs. The chair and the surrounding floor was completely covered with 2 inch long wet hair clippings of a precious client. I brush them away with my hand and sat down. I then stayed seated there for another 30 minutes while my cold tangled hair dried by itself. Finally after about 45 minutes of waiting and being uncomfortably cold the stylists turns to me and asks what I want. I explain that I want lots of layers and a few inches off. She combs my now near-dry and very tangled hair, pulls out a razor and runs it through my hair a few times. The whole process took about 7 minutes... not that time is a good indicator of skill, but all other salons I've been to have taken at least 25-30 minutes just cutting my hair due to how thick it is. I looked at my hair and ask if she could layer it a bit more and thin it out. She seemed annoyed but went back to work. After a few minutes I look again and ask if she can layer it more, she refuses and makes up some excuse and seems very agitated. She also did not thin my hair like I had asked but I felt like she was rushing me because a timer had gone off for one of her other clients and she was edging away from me as I spoke to her. I did not feel valued as a client and to make matters worse I payed the most I've ever paid for a single salon haircut. Please avoid this place. read more

Salon Montage is amazing, if you are a circus performer or a carnival freak. If you are into two toned hair, a condescending stylist and a complete unwillingness to address an issue then this is your place. If overpriced haircuts, an unprofessional demeanor and an owner that shouldn't be licensed to trim a dog much less a human then put down the phone, get off yelp and call her right away. Cause Seema is your girl. Seema is a master at telling you how right she is and probably one of the more capable people I've ever met at letting you know that what you think and say doesn't matter. I got my hair colored and cut. The cut was okay, but admittedly shorter than what I had asked for. But the dye was the best part. My hair is naturally dark brown. I had a biolage previously and wanted to go back to my natural color. I explained what I wanted, she explained what she would do. In the end I walked out with brown hair and red roots. I look like a half cooked hamburger at this point. But this isn't a scenario where I didn't say anything and just sheepishly walked out. The entire time I was there I was explaining that the hair looked red. All she kept saying was "when i dry it, the hair will look better". Then she dried it - still looking like a half cooked hamburger. I pointed the roots out again. She told me that it was just the light. I politely informed her that I typically walk around in places that have lights and agreed that it was the light as that is what allows us to see - light. So to her point if I go into a closet and turn off the lights the hair looks fine, but that wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I shelled out $135. You would think with the prices they charge that they'd at least be able to pick up the trash, afford real trash bags, not have broken combs and malfunctioning drawers. I should have known something was up when they tried to put me into a dog bath to wash my hair (okay that parts a joke). The best part was when I tried to contact her the following day. I emailed her an hour after I got home to ask her what we can do to fix the issue. I called her the next morning - no answer. I called her again and left a voicemail - no return call. In the end I disputed this with my credit card company because it's essentially a case of services not rendered. I walked in with an old biolage and walked out looking like one of Ronald McDonald's friends. They deserve a 0 not even a 1 star. I will say that the lack of response I received is consistent with everyone else's reviews. I will say the young lady that washed my hair and answers the phone is super sweet and should find a different spot to work. read more

I thought I found a salon for myself, my daughter, and my best friend all in one shot! After spending over $200 for myself and my daughter because of the special rate advertised online.. I thought, "well done"! .. I was a little upset that they said we would have to come back to have my daughters hair finished though.... i've never had to have her hair done in steps. But ok.. i'll play along. I went back w/ my best friend and she mentioned the specail offer on the phone, they were happy to fit her in, as well as myself for nails/brows. Walked in to overhear the customer complaining quietly about her green hair.. she was told they would fix it when her hair relaxed. Best Friend sat down for her appointment and it was only a matter of time before she saw her hair color... absolutely horrible! then after they sprayed a ton of water, washed it ... it was almost gone. Good for the bright yellow to be gone.. bad for no color at all. To top all this off.. the stylist was GONE too! she never returned after lunch! this stylist is the same stylist who did my daughters hair and who i was making my second appointment w/. The young girl who does the nails and eyebrows is AMAZING!! Hands down, she is the BEST!! I totally wish she worked somewhere else. There's no way I'll return w/ my daughter for a few reasons. First, she just wanted the top layer of her hair done.. she wanted it lighter then the bottom layer.. she even showed them a picture on her phone. I thought the description was very simple as well. I doubt it really takes 2 appointments. Second, when the stylist realized something was wrong w/ best friends hair, she disappeared, w/ no explanation from her or the owner. Lastly, this is an AVEDA salon... when a customer is assured a relaxing appointment and satisfaction... i would hope a little effort would be used to come a little close to that expectation. My friend wrote a letter to the salon hoping for a chance to repair her hair..and much to my surprise.... NOTHING, not even a crappy response. NOTHING. So, ladies, please... I went here, my daughter went here, and then my friend went here... That's 3 experiences and they started ok and went downhill from there. And for a place in Leesburg,.. and for an AVEDA salon.. you would think customer service would be somewhat of a priority. But it's clearly not. Just OK. I have gone to this salon several times because I lived in the apartments that surround the village center and it was just easier than driving. Every time I went, I hoped it would be better than the last time- but it really wasn't. People are nice, but not as knowledgeable when you have questions about your hair, color options, etc. Twice I had asked for a specific cut, brought a picture- and got something totally different. I'm still trying to find the right salon in the area, but am forcing myself to fight off the temporary Alzheimer's I seem to get when it comes to this place. I initially came to Salon Montage for eyebrow threading and was so excited to see Sima as she had previously done my hair many years back at another salon. I told her I was so happy I found her as I never was able to find someone else that styles/color like she does. I came back to get my hair done and so happy I found her again! My go to style is layers and no one else is able to frame my face like she does. I have also gone back for blow outs for date night outings with my hubby and updo's for special events like weddings and seriously she is the best. She can do anything! I rarely leave bad reviews for anywhere, but this time I feel I should ... it was a very disappointing experience. Because I was 10 minutes late for my 10:00 appt (I had a hard time finding their store in the new shopping center), they gave my appt to someone else and left me waiting until 11:00 before starting on my hair. I witnessed several other instances of unprofessionality while waiting: one woman was asked to leave and come back later due to misscheduling, another woman received a poor highlighting job that needed to be redone, and one of the workers wanted to run out for a yogurt next door even though her help was needed doing a wash and dry. My own hair was done fairly well and the hairdresser was friendly, though I don't think they understand curls. But after experiencing the overall brusque attitude of the staff and waiting 1 hour even though I scheduled an appt, I do not plan to return. read more

Seema did an amazing job with my hair. I was 2.5 months postpartum at the time and she really gave me the most flattering cut and took into consideration the continuing (ugh!) hair loss. It might be the best haircut I've ever had. There was an issue with scheduling at the beginning of the appointment, and I was at first a bit apprehensive because of it, but it was taken care of and Seema managed to turn what could have been a bad experience into a loyal repeat customer. I've been getting my haircut and colored by Seema for several years now. She is the salon owner, and she is absolute best! She's actually been cutting my husband's hair for almost 15 years! He has many cowlicks, and she is the ONLY person who has been able to cut his hair without any problems! Seema's salon uses all Aveda products, and my hair always leaves there looking great. I've been going to this salon for many years, and I've always been extremely pleased with my hair cuts, and color. Seema is a master at color, and I get so many compliments on my highlights. This salon is so easy to work with in scheduling appointments, and is very customer-focused. Great location! Plenty of parking within an easy walk to the salon. And I usually combine my salon trip with a stop at a local restaurant or Coldwater Creek (directly across the street).
