I had been growing my hair out from a bob for months and went in for a simple 1/2 inch trim and long layers, which is exactly what I communicated. I walked out with absolutely insane and choppy SHORT layers that look horrendous. I already have fine hair and there is absolutely no body left to it because of how short the layers are. Very disappointed with this salon. I showed the stylist a picture of how I wanted my son's hair and she just chopped his hair. My son cried and went to the bathroom hating it. The owner tried to help fix it but there was no way of saving it. I do not know why I ended up paying for chopped hair. read more

I actually did a walk-in for a haircut this afternoon because I happen to pass by at Lansdowne Town Center. I am very pleased and happy that I did! They accepted walk-ins and I came in at a perfect timing. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. They even offered my husband Turkish coffee while he was waiting for me. Best of all, I learned that all of them are family-operated. I love that! Overall, five star experience from start to finish! Leyla who shampooed my hair was very friendly, and Veli did an amazing haircut on my thin, but very long, wavy hair. He made sure that I get the haircut that I like and was very thorough from the beginning to the end. I love my long layered haircut and my blow-dry and my husband just said right now while doing this review how beautiful I looked because of my blow-dry and my haircut. I couldn't get any better compliment than that. I love that this is a family-owned salon since 1988. I can sense that they have a loyal customer base and their fees are just right. I recently got my hair done and instead of what I wanted, they talked me out of it and gave me blonde and red highlights. I am a natural blonde and I wanted to go a little more strawberry blonde. Now I have orange streaks in my hair. If you guys are middle-aged and need a basic hair style go there, but if u want something more current then go somewhere else. Great salon and great cuts. The staff are all related and that's means little turnover in staff and that leads to consistency in the team's ability to keep up with styles and the latest techniques. I got Balayage and cut by the capable hands of Suna, and traveled 55 miles to see her. Suna listens. She gets it right. I loved the time she took, making sure it was perfectly cut to my face, and the color blend - can now really tell a week later, as the hair has settled in - is beautiful. I recommend this salon for cuts, color, & special occasions (they had just finished a bride to be and her bridesmaids with French Twists and Up-Dos.) You'll enjoy a polite and friendly staff, and best of all, a soft-spoken atmosphere. The prices, for this type of perfection, are amazingly reasonable. Expect that your cut will be photographed, with notes taken down for your specific color. They also use high-end color. This is a fantastic salon. I've seen Deniz and her mother Zeynap, and can't say enough good things about these lovely ladies. They listen to what you want, and deliver! The standard wash/cut/blow dry is a steal for this area and for the service they provide. Four of my children have also gone here for dramatic cuts ( man bun with shaved underneath, pixie-faux hawk thing, and cutting about 9 inches of hair off) and I have thick long hair - this salon handles all of the above beautifully. This is a local business, run by a local family, not some corporate chain. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I chose Radiance in Broadlands instead and although I found it to be a good place too, the prices were exorbitant for the middle of Ashburn, so I decided to return to the Cut Above and I'm absolutely thrilled to report that Veli is a superstar! He picked the right color for my skin tone and did a wonderful job with highlights - I am absolutely thrilled to be back. I went to the Leesburg location for 6 years but after coming to this one I will not be back. I went in a day before getting my hair done with a picture and was told by Suna that she could do what I wanted and she gave me a price. The next day as she was doing my hair she kept telling me that she should really charge me more but that she'd stick to her word (which for some reason they tell me every time so it seems like they usually try to upcharge). When my hair was done it was not at all close to what I asked for. I wanted blonde balayage with my roots fading into it for a more natural look and my hair turned out yellow with brown and orange patches and even a very noticeable line where my hair went from brown to yellow-ish. When I told Suna she said I could come back to get it fixed for more than I had paid for her to do it in the first place but that there was nothing she could do about my hair turning orange, and began dealing with the next customer. I spoke to the owner on the phone and she told me to come back to have it fixed, and while it's better, my hair is still yellow with random patches of other colors. I thought it was unprofessional to be brushed off in the first place and to only having it fixed after speaking to the owner. Even a co-worker looked at it when my hair was about to be fixed and told her that what she did was not what was in the picture. I know it's hard to match a picture perfectly but it was handled really badly and I'm still unsatisfied with my hair - she even said she was unsatisfied with the job she did even though I was reassured by her multiple times that she knew just what to do to make it look how I asked. My roots are also still patchy and because of her co-worker, I know that the incorrect technique was used. It seems like she only tried fixing it because she had to and like I went there to throw my money away. Even after admitting to not doing the right color I wasn't offered for it to be fixed free of charge, only to come back and pay more money. I'm really disappointed and won't be back again even though this was my go-to place for years. read more

Went into this salon on a recommendation from a family member. They are very courteous and welcoming. I asked for balayage on my non-colored hair. They gave me what i asked for. I have a 2 yr old and brought him along with me. They took care of him when he was bored. They are also not expensive compared to most of the other salons. I started going to The Cut Above in Leesburg a few years ago on the recommendation of a women that I had met who had been going there a while. I was looking for a new stylist. Her cut, color and highlights were beautiful. I got an appointment with Aynur. That was my lucky day! She's made my hair look so good that I am constantly getting compliments. My hair is solid white and people are shocked when I tell them that. Her talent with coloring hair is so good that I was surprised to find that she cuts hair just as well. I've recommended Aynur to at least 2 dozen people maybe more and many of those people are now recommending her to others. The other stylists there are great, too. As is the owner, Veli that my husband now go to. The shop itself is understated, no pretentiousness here, the prices are not high as would be expected for such talent.
