Had an awesome cut with Lauren today. I initially emailed because they're listed on the bottom of the Yip Deals emails as offering a special, but the link didn't go anywhere. The owner responded right away even though it was after hours. If you park in the parking lot, you have to walk down the stairs and go to the left - they're right below the Mexican restaurant, and you will pass a few other places before you get to them. The salon itself has a very cool beachy and modern vibe. It's laid out nicely and very clean. I felt like even though I wasn't able to give Lauren a whole lot of direction during our consultation, she was really able to read between the lines and interpret what I was getting at. My thick hair looks super healthy and doesn't feel heavy anymore, and she didn't even use a razor to thin it out as most people want to. Lauren knows her stuff!! And my husband even noticed the difference in my hair - that's HUGE. I also love the variety of haircare lines they carry but not in an overwhelming way - as Lauren put it, they carry their favorites. I got the impression they take a lot of pride in what they present to their clients and are not there to oversell you on a ton of stuff you don't need, just what will work for you. If you go because of this review, let me (and them!) know - they have a great referral program that gets you 10% off, but I'm not sure if you need to present the card they gave me. It pains me to write this review. I know by doing so, I am making it much harder for me to get an appointment with Maddie. As it is now, Saturdays and weekday nights are near impossible to book with her and thats with weeks notice in advance. However, I will perform my Yelp duties and post my review. I've already been putting it off for a couple months to keep Maddie to myself, but that's against what Yelp stands for, so I must post kicking and screaming. Maddie is: Awesome. You want full highlights? She's done 3 colors for me to give a natural look. THREE. And she hand paints my baby-fine hair in front without putting it in foil since its more delicate. The cut? Fantastic. She's fixed me up with a manageable, but modern cut. The fiance used to go next door to Roosters, and I convinced him to give Maddie a try since he'd complain after every cut. He continues to go to her...which is huge, because he hasn't been happy with any cut in years. To get to Waves, park at the top parking lot (near Walgreens) and take the stairs or elevator down to the street level. Waves is a small salon which I love, and only has a few chairs which is much more pleasant in my opinion. Waves doesn't have the long line of chairs and craziness going on. Its intimate and much more personal. I love Maddie, she does amazing work especially with color and is one of the best I've seen with my "problem" hair. read more

Waves recently opened up next to Roosters in the Goose Creek Plaza outside of Ashburn Farms. I'm a fan of the nail salon two doors down (Beauty Bar) and took note of Waves as I left a nail appointment next week. I procrastinated a bit too long on calling them to make an appointment for an updo. Still, when I called at 10am on a Saturday morning, they were able to squeeze me in at noon, which I really appreciated. The salon space is very big and the staff was quite nice. Drinks were offered multiple times and everyone seemed happy to be working there. I do think they are going to need to expand their seating area for waiting customers. I would also recommend they invest some resources into improving their website; it's very basic and doesn't look as professional as the salon clearly is. Maggie attacked my updo and she was fantastic. She took the time to talk to me about where I was going for my event, what I was wearing, what I was looking for. I had a decorative comb I wanted worked in and she sketched out a design incorporating it. She worked quickly and was very pleasant to spent 45mn with. I was incredibly impressed with the end result. The updo was exactly how she had described it to me before she started working and she showcased my comb perfectly. The Mister was equally pleased and I got several compliments on my hair at our event. The price was very reasonable for an updo and I will certainly be back to see Maggie for future events. Amera is by far THE best! During my consultation, she wanted me to come back for a strand test since I didn't have time that day. When I came back, she had done some thorough research since the color I wanted was a bit complicated. We tried two different colors to make sure I saw the difference. This just showed me that she cared, was patient and wanted me to be happy and achieve the color I exactly wanted. She went above and beyond which is hard to find in any salon! Even after reading the bad review on yelp regarding her...I trusted Amera and booked an appointment. I'm so glad I did! My hair looks amazing! As someone completely new to the area, I had NO idea where to go for a cut & color - and I'm pretty picky about my hair! After scouring yelp and the internet, I finally settled on Waves Salon. I called with no specific stylist in mind (their website doesn't list their stylists - at least that I could find) and got an appointment for 2 days later. I was greeted warmly by the front desk and only had to wait a few minutes. My stylist Amara (please forgive me if I've spelled the name wrong!) was great. Personable, easy to talk to, and she did an nice job! My color looks great. I'll admit, I was anxious about going into a new place, but it all worked out in the end. read more

I love this salon, it is very cute and welcoming. The receptionist is very nice and so is all the staff. I have to say Maddy is the best stylist I have ever had. I have followed her for awhile now, and I have never been disappointed when I leave her chair. She has a true gift and she knows how to style and cut for every individual woman. She is great at color, as well and really complimenting my features with the color that she puts on my hair. My husband has started to go to Maddy and I am always impressed. He has curly/fluffy hard to manage hair, and he always leaves looking like a million bucks. No other stylist has made his hair look as good as she does. I can't recommend Maddy enough! read more

Waves Salon is a first class salon!! They just moved locations and are now in Leesburg. I've been a client of Daina's for almost 20 years. She is so talented. I'm really picky about my hair and she always understands what I want. Getting the right amount of highlights and lowlights is SO hard but she gets it right EVERY time!! She is a good, honest business owner. Customer service is very important to Daina and truly cares about her clients. I get a lot of compliments on my hair color and I owe it all to Daina!! She's the best- I highly recommend this salon. read more

I have to give the Salon 2 stars because of management and scheduling, but I really like Stacey (I give her 6 starts) and she is a wonderful person as well as a wonderful stylist. She is the only person in this area that I have left feeling completely satisfied with my cut. She also has great opinions if you ask her for them! However, it is extremely difficult to get in with her and the front desk and even owner are not any help at all. They tell you they will call you back and never do, leaving you to constantly call to get an answer...it's pretty annoying. I think I'm ready to move on..... read more

I have a wonderful hair dresser; Nikita, whom I love! I had been seeing her for years at a different salon in Ashburn and she recently moved over to the Waves Salon down the block. What a world of difference this salon is! Front desk receptionist was absolutely pleasant, ambiance of the salon is very calming and comfortable, hair dressers stations are beautiful, and above all they have Nikita! I have very thick "Italian" hair that Nikita is able to cut, shape, and color with ease - I always leave happy when I visit her but I highly recommend this new salon on top of it! **Extra tip: If it's your first time visiting, you'll want to park outside the Mexican restaurant and walk down the stairs outside to get to the salon. :) read more

Been going to Nikita now for over 2 years. I grew up in southern California and stylist out there just know how to do blonde. I struggled finding a stylist that could do the right blonde. Like the atmosphere a lot in WAVES. I think I got a good cut and color. I was told a different price when I booked the appointment then what I paid. But, I was happy with my hair, so I'll be sure I ask next time to be sure of the price when I'm talking with my stylist. read more

I just LOVE this salon! I'm a spur of the moment kinda gal - not one to ever make an appointment ahead of time and I'm always able to get in the day I want to. The employees are friendly, courteous, and fun. The salon is professional, yet casual and comfy and they have plenty of products and services to choose from. Maddy G is THE one and only for me but the other employees all seem to enjoy being there and do a great job as well. Maddy gives me plenty of "me" time, determining what I want done and giving me her ideas as well. I can honestly my hair has never looked better. I will continue to see M at Waves as long as my hair continues to grow! read more

TAKE CAUTION IF YOU USE "AMERA" hair stylist from WAVES in Ashburn..... she did my daughters hair for Prom, it was down, with a small braid on each side, I asked her to please make the curls at the side and back tighter as it would fall out, my daughter's hair is straight as a board, Amera insisted she knew what she was doing...I asked her several times... but NO the young obviously inexperienced young lady knew better, she charged me $100..... that was at 3.00pm by 5.00... when we were going for pictures, my daughters hair was straight!!!! I was frustrated that she didn't listen and kept telling my daughter I need to hurry, I have plans.... I would also like to add that the owner was not present on the day this happened. IT was NOT an updo, my daughters hair was down, she is 16, I was paying, TO ADD one of her TOP STYLISTS commented on the pictures of my daughter's hair at Prom and TOLD me to contact the owner Daina, this stylist told me that $100 for what Amera did was way too much....!! I would name this Top Stylist who was there she saw my daughters hair and had actually WARNED me against USING Amera... but that would ruffle more feathers. The owner gave me a store credit to use for half the amount. THEN Amera was not satisfied and YES personally started texting me at MIDNIGHT, on Friday 5th June, How dare a stylist from a salon text me at midnight!! This young lady is unprofessional and immature. Why would I go back there?? These words are not careless, just true fact I have said what happened All who reads this, this was NOT intended to judge the whole salon.... there are some talented stylists there!! I love walking into Waves Salon, it's so cute and welcoming. I have been to see Jessica several times and every time I am so happy with the result. I have gotten cuts, color, highlights and styling for special occasions. The prices are really reasonable and a little less than some other places in the area. I went to Waves and had a wonderful blow-out by Lauren. I've only been to her on a couple of special occasions since she did such a great job styling my hair and making it look much better than I could ever do. I have wavy, thick, full hair - and she managed to find a way to blow dry it but with a round brush so it still had body and rounded curls (think Cindy Crawford). Unfortunately when I called recently to make an appt for my brother's wedding in August they informed me that she no longer worked there and couldn't tell me where she went. Any salon that Nikita works for gets 5+ stars! I have been going to her since she was an apprentice, and I always leave happy. She has done so many different styles for me, her talents are so versatile. She is incredible at cuts, and amazing at color! I love that she always takes the time to style it nicley when it's finished. She is great at was she does and she is great company. The salon itself is super nice, it is very welcoming, the people are very friendly, and I love the modern stations. I felt very comfortable in that salon and I will definitely be going back on the regular, as well as recommending it to all my friends! read more
