Avoid Micheal Shawn (Kiet Vo) at all costs! Booked a 1:30 appointment. Showed up 10 minutes early. Stood by the desk, someone asked if I needed help, I said I had a 1:30 with Micheal, then was told to sit upfront and he'd come check with me. 20 minutes later, still sitting in the front when a walk-in came in, someone went to go ask Micheal and he said 20-30 minutes and he'd be with him. So I walked back to talk to him and he was deep into coloring someone else's hair, gloves on and everything. So I asked if I still had my appointment, he said "Oh yeah," then said he'd help me in a little. He came and grabbed me finally, then immediately started accosting me about how it's my fault I didn't walk over to him. I don't live here, I don't know who he is so how could I? He continued to accost me the whole cut, lecturing me how it's my fault I had to wait, he even said he saw me in there. 3-5 minutes into the cut he asked if I wanted product. I was so confused, he hadn't done anything I wanted so I asked "are you done?" He said yes, so I repeated what I wanted, then he told me no, he wasn't going to do that and then continued doing what I didn't want for 15 more seconds, then asked how I wanted to pay. My hair is so uneven and is completely fucked up. It's so uneven and he missed parts of my hair... He also works at Scotch and Scissors apparently and tried to get me to go there and told me it'd be $65 there instead of $45 at Village 9. $65 for a 3 minute cut while getting accosted and told he wouldn't cut my hair like I asked? This man is a criminal. I really wish one of the nice ladies at Village 9 would've responded to my inquiry for a cut, they would've been head and shoulders above him. read more

Terrible experience. My stylist (Jessi) wasn't friendly and didn't do a thorough job shampooing and rinsing my color out or blow drying my hair. She was rough when coloring my hair and using the round brush to dry my hair. I walked away with damp hair thar dried into a frizz ball. She didn't use any product on my hair to style it. You should walk away from the salon feeling rejuvenated and loving your hair. This wasn't my experience here. What a waste of money. So disappointed! read more

I was nervous to get a haircut after a particularly bad one where they cut off way more than I asked for, and hadn't gotten a haircut in a couple years. The stylist, Tania, was very nice and professional. However, I did not receive what I wanted. I showed a picture twice so I expected similar haircut. I payed $155 and the haircut and partial highlight is no way near the first picture. and curly hair is not simply dried with any brush and straightened with flat iron. It looks flat by the next day. I have been going to Village 9 for about a year and a half after I moved back to the Northern Virginia area and couldn't find a hairdresser that I was completely satisfied with. I went to Michael V for a Keratin treatment. Can't say enough good things about this experience. Michael is a competent stylist who clearly holds himself to a high standard. The treatment was a thorough success - hair was perfectly pin straight when I left. Michael gives a level of attention to his work that is unmatched. He took his time with each step of the process from blowing out the curls to applying the treatment to the flat ironing. No rushing to be done (I've had this treatment done elsewhere and there was an obvious difference). He was very thorough with every part of the process and has an eye for detail. Again, it is evident that he holds himself to a high standard. I was very pleased with the result. After the treatment was done he generously offered to trim my ends (curly hair is not cut straight so it looked uneven when straight) so everything looked even. I left the salon looking fabulous and ready for vacation! A couple of other noteworthy mentions. He asked that I stop by for a consult before the actual appt so he could examine my curls and we could discuss what I was looking for from the treatment. He also agreed to come in on his day off for the appointment as I wanted the treatment done before before a trip I'd planned and our schedules were not jiving. In addition, Michael followed up with me a week later to check in and see if I was happy with the keratin treatment. This is the kind of professionalism that leaves a positive impression. I called in at 4:30pm and made an appointment for 5:30pm the same day. After coming in to the salon, a woman informed me she had been the only person all day and that there were no other appointments for that day. Bullshit. I literally called this location, spoke with someone on the phone, set up an appointment, and was denied a simple haircut. read more

Starting off, I got a text this morning from Jessi asking to push my appointment 30 minutes later, I was fine with that but I was expecting to have a normal appointment. I was wrong. I walked in. Was quickly called to the back, i appreciated the haste in getting me TO the chair. That was then followed by an incredibly brief consultation where she seemed to be in a rush and proceeded to rush through every step of my trim. We agreed to about 2 inches off and she noted how dry my hair was. My first statement was how I wanted to keep the length. My hair was quite long, almost touching my belly button, so I could part with two inches and be fine. Then I was shampoo'd once, very quickly toweled off and ushered back into the chair. While my hair was soaking wet Jessi was informed her next client had arrived. My middle part was then created crooked, so when I tried to speak up about it she joined a conversation with a coworker and another client. To which I could not interrupt to correct my part. Then she started cutting. I COULD NOT SEE HOW MUCH SHE WAS CHOPPING OFF. She seemed to just keep cutting and cutting and blowdried my hair quite roughly. Now my hair is just above my boobs, roughly 5 inches off. I did not ask for a long bob. I wanted a trim and I highly do not recommend booking with Jessi. Frankly I don't think she should have a job here. read more

Honestly such an underrated place. I've frequented high end salons in mclean DC and Boston and never had stylists that are as knowledgeable about hair coloring as some of the women that work here. I visited this place for the first time a few months ago. Lori is the best !!Today will be my third visit. I have never had a hair stylist that has been able to do my hair before. It is very thick and dark. On my first visit, Lori fixed my hair after another stylist had ruined it and left it with chunks of orange in it. She is AMAZING with balyage and with haircuts.
