I wouldn't trust anyone but Salon Nouveau for my hair color and styling! I've been going to them since they opened and have never been disappointed. I usually see the owner Amy but Anila has also been so helpful and talented with styling tips for updos. Achieving the perfect blonde is not easy and takes effort from both the salon AND the customer with proper upkeep in between visits! Staff is knowledgeable and always recommend tips for upkeep and care in between visits. It's always an enjoyable and relaxing experience. Sometimes you take for granted how much value there is in a reliable hair salon. This is why I felt compelled to write this review. I have so much gratitude towards Amy and Salon Nouveau for my wedding day preparations. Amy totally achieved and maintained the perfect blonde as well as styled my hair on my wedding day. She exceeded my wedding style expectations! I can't even believe my hair was capable of looking so beautiful. The loose updo lasted over 12 hours of wedding day festivities. I've been going to this salon for many years and have known Amy for over 25 years, even from her tenure at previous salons. I've been consistently satisfied with the treatment I've received. Cuts, perms, color treatments ~ they've all been high quality and absolutely gorgeous! Scroll through the photos and you'll see a "blackberry" color treatment I recently had done. Instead of dying my full hair a cool chocolate brown, Anila recommended that partial highlights would be the best way to go and I'm happy I went with that decision. All I got was a TERRIBLE HAIR CUT. THE STYLIST THAT CUT MY HAIR was Wayne. I specifically told him not to cut my hair short and he decided to butcher it and cut a lot. Worst salon in the area! I tried to make an apppointment over the phone, first time they tell me to give them my phone and they'll call me back, which never happened, then I called the next day again and they told me to hold, I waited for 7 minutes. Then I called again 4 times with no answer so I asked my husband to call and they did answer I guess bc it was form another phone. Well, he said he wanted to make an apppointment they said yes, then he said he had a Groupon and they said they had no availability. Horrible service and this was just over the Phone! What a horrible experience I had at this place--- I've been searching for a new salon because I've had issues with other stylists but this place takes the cake. I went in as a walk in, and the gentleman who cut my hair sat me down and asked what I wanted to do. I SPECIFICALLY told him to just take the dead ends off (which was desperately needed) because I am growing out my hair and wanted to keep it as long as possible. He kept repeating "you'll be fine" which I thought was odd but brushed it off seeing as how it was my first time in his chair. He took off about 5 inches- way more than just the dead ends, but something I could have easily lived with, no problem. I then asked for a SLIGHT face frame to create some shape, which is when everything went downhill. He chopped off so much of my hair, gave me long choppy layers (which I DID NOT ask for) and bangs that left my hair a jumbled mess. One side of my head now looks shaggy and frizzy while the other side my hair falls limp. WORST haircut of my life. And to make things even better, he told me "give it time, because you need to learn to love it now". Excuse me?! That is not how you treat ANY customer, no matter what the circumstances of their visit are. Now I need to live with an unflattering, ugly haircut for the next 7 months because this stylist thought he knew what was best for me. If you are attached to your locks, I don't recommend this place at all. If you are like me and can usually roll with the punches, still, I don't advise this salon. Go to SuperCuts, at least they'll listen to your wishes when you sit in their chair. read more

People were really nice and I had a good time at the salon but the treatment (Global Keratin Treatment) did not show the results as I had expected. I have been doing Keratin treatments for years and my hair stays straight post the treatment but in this case it went back to how my hair originally were before the treatment which is a disappointment after spending close to $140 (with tip) for this. I've been there twice so far and I am thrilled. I also went there using a Groupon and got the Single Process done by Amy. She gave me a follow-up special that I could use for the same thing. I went there this past weekend to do my roots and I added highlights. I showed Amy a picture of what I was thinking and it came out wonderful! The price was also very reasonable. The salon staff is friendly and willing to fit you in as a walk-in when possible. In my 4 visits I never heard any of the staff make catty remarks about another worker or a client. They have always offered me coffee, or water, and magazines, and the stylists focus on their present client, not others. If I had to be brutally honest...a fresh set of eyes might suggest a little more shine and minor refurbishing and occasionaly a stylists' hair hasn't been their own best advertisement. The salon is reasonably clean but small, and can feel cluttered. The shampoo sink is in the back room where product is stored and mixed, so the salon seems a little pricey for the surroundings, but the friendly atmosphere makes the salon seem more homey than shabby. This isn't the place to go if your are looking for a cutting edge styling experience, but for basic cuts, and standard coloring they get the job done, and use quality product. What really sold me on the place was going back after not being happy with the results of a foiling. After spending 100.00 on a trim and a single color partial foiling plus 20.00 tip ...( and a 25.00 parking ticket on top of that!!!!) ... I steeled myself and went back. The stylist was very nice, did not make me feel like she was just humoring an unrealistic client and took care of the problem right away. I had an additional service (glaze) and she did not charge me. The salon has a hometown feel to it, and the genuine niceness and willingness to take care of their clients makes Salon Nouveau a winner. read more

I bought a Groupon and had my Keratin treatment done there. Cute, small salon. No frills but definitely comfortable. The woman who did my hair was Amy. So sweet and nice, very welcoming. She took the time to listen to me and what I wanted to achieve. She wasn't pushy and gave me a choice to go with the Coppola treatment (which I had before, and was the groupon I purchased) or the GK Hair straightening keratin treatment. I chose to try the GK. After she was done, my hair was nice and smooth as well as very shiny. I have thin hair that tends to get frizzy in the humid summer months. Also I liked that everything ran smoothly. As soon as I walked in, she greeted me and began to sit me in the chair. Overall, I liked this salon, felt very comfortable. And Amy is very knowledgeable as a hair dresser. Started there solely because of a groupon for keratin. I had had a bad keratin treatment at my last place, so time to move on. Been with them since then, 1 year 3 months now. Amy the owner is a doll. My bridal party and I all received great services here for my wedding day. Amy and Anila did an amazing job on all whether it was an up-do or down style. My hair stayed in place the whole day and night. I would recommend to everyone. The rest of the staff is great there also and were completely helpful. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. I received a keartin treatment which I was assured would last 6-8 months, but only lasted 2 weeks. After A MONTH of leaving voicemails to the salon, they basically told me "you should have called sooner." and "We said it would last only 3 months and you used a groupon so you got it at a discounted rate." So because I didn't pay full price I am expected to pay for a service that didn't work? The manager told me she would call me back to discuss it and never did. I had to call another 3 TIMES before she finally spoke to me and my money was never refunded. I will NEVER visit this salon again. read more

First of all this is in response to Sylvia's post. I was a customer who happen to witness your unprofessional behavior, cursing and acting like a 5 year old isn't going to help your cause. Whether or not you liked what was done to your hair there is a way to conduct yourself and your childish behavior was totally uncalled for. The owner was trying her best to make the situation right and you just want a FREE hair cut. I've been getting my haircut at this salon for many many years and have never had an issue. They all are very professional and genuinely care for all their customers. Try being less rude, you get more bees with honey then vinegar. read more

I got my hair done here two times. I don't know why I went back the second time when the first experience was bad... I blame it all on pure desperation! As a newly planted Jersey-ite, I didn't know anyone to find out the best place to get my hair cut. I took a chance with Salon Nouveau. WRONG! When I asked for a slight trim, I wound up having about 6 inches of my hair cut! The style was unflattering and I wound up wearing a ponytail until my hair grew out again. The second time I went (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment) I asked for 3 chunky streaks of highlights. What I got was a full-on thin-streaked highlighting process which made me look so tacky! I revel being the individual who I am. 3 chunky streaks were all I asked for. No one in this salon listens. My advice - ask around. If you like a stranger's hair, ask them where they get their hair cut. It will save you so much grief! read more

I was very excited when I had finally found a salon near me that uses GK Global Keratin since I have had about 5 keratin treatments in the past and the GK Global seemed to work best for my hair. I was especially happy that Salon Nouveau 2 in Hasbrouck Heights was having a special of $99 for a keratin treatment. I made an appt. and went on 9/12. I met with Tamar, who is such a nice woman. She was very pleasant and sweet. I let her know that I would pay more for extra keratin and to please use as much as she needed since I have very thick and course hair. She told me that they don't charge extra for the keratin and I found it odd since every other keratin treatment I had gotten required extra for my hair. During the process, I noticed that Tamar was not soaking up every strand of hair with the solution and was applying it right onto my hair while it was wet but I figured maybe this was just a different method. Tamar told me she had done so many keratin treatments recently because of the special the salon was having and I thought to myself, "Hey, she's gotta be a pro at this." She was done with me in about an hour when it has usually taken 2 and a half to 3 hours at the other salons but I had also just cut off a lot of my hair so it was now chin-length and thought this may be why. Usually, right after I get a keratin treatment and until it is washed out after 48 hours, my hair is pin straight no matter if it's hot and humid and my hair definitely didn't look like that. When I got home, my husband told me that my hair looked just like it did earlier in the morning before I had left for work. The following morning, I noticed that my roots were frizzy, forming waves and my hair was a little puffy. I knew then that this "keratin treatment" didn't do anything to my hair. I still waited more than 48 hours to wash my hair only to see no difference in my hair. I was disappointed and about a week later, I went to another salon and got a Keratin Express treatment (different from the Keratin treatment) and what a difference. My hair looked pin straight with absolutely no frizz. I love the results even though I had to pay another $140. Also, just for the Keratin Express, which takes less time than the full Keratin Treatment, it still took an hour and 40 minutes. Salon Nouveau 2 is a nice little cozy salon but they're lying to and robbing their customers when they charge $100 for a "keratin treatment" that really isn't. read more

I bought a living social deal for keratin and made a Saturday appointment about 3 weeks in advance (just to be safe). I ended up calling a few days before to move it out a week and it was not a problem. The salon is small, on a somewhat busy street. Free 2 hour street parking is available and it wasn't hard to find a spot. I walked in and was offered water and coffee. Anilia did my keratin and she's clearly experienced with the process. I washed it after 3 days and it feels smooth and is definitely easier to dry and less frizzy. I would go back here again. read more

I've been going to Amy for my cuts and keratin treatments for over a year now. I highly recommend this salon! I have thick full hair that's usually wavy. Not the easiest to manage, but Amy got my desired hair cut 100% from the first time she cut it. Years ago, before kids, I treated myself to a $200 cut by Pierre Michele in NYC and even he had to cut too much off to get close to the style I wanted. Amy is truly talented! I don't know where Ellen's review is coming from, but I'm sure there's 2 sides to this story too. Thank god I met Amy through my first groupon at her salon because that's what these promos are all about: bringing in new clients. It's up to the business owners to turn them into repeat customers bc it's too easy to jump around and utilize various groupons and never build loyalty with any business. I was shocked to find out recently that groupon takes 50% for their services! 50%!!!!! My background is in marketing and advertising but I've never paid 50% of the cost of a service or product for each new customer. Nevertheless, good for them and their great business model. But if the owners of these businesses don't offer the same promotion they'll just lose the new customer to another business offering something similar. Ive bought many Groupons where the owners offer the repeat service at the same price if paid in full at the business and not through Groupon. But on the point of a ridiculously high tip of $60, that's quite a claim to make. I'd like to call the last place I tipped in cash the next day and claim I accidentally gave $60 in cash! Who would say "ok, come on over and I'll hand you some cash"? Maybe the young daughter overspent elsewhere and didn't want to tell mommy. I find it appalling that a non-customer can write such an awful review with crazy speculations and none of them are about the service. Shouldn't the daughter be writing about how her salon service went, first and foremost? Reviews like that take advantage of services like yelp that are trying to help consumers determine quality of service. Integrity? I don't think so! In fact, Amy didn't hesitate to support our local school fundraiser with a generous discount for new and existing customers. That's great integrity! I know a few other people who have gone to Amy and Anila at salon nouveau and were very happy with results and have returned many times, just as I keep planning to do! read more

I once tried this salon because I found the deal on groupon and I have to say I should have paid the regular price and get the results I wanted. I called and made an appointment for a keratin treatment. My appointment was set for a particular Friday. The day couldn't come fast enough for me. I get there and they have no idea who "Jessie" is for a noon appointment. The woman at the front desk flips back and forward thru about 5 pages asking if I'm sure my appointment was for noon that Friday. I said yes and specified I picked that day because I was going on vacation the next weekend. She still flips thru her appointment book and asking. Basically trying to convince me that it must have been set for another day. They could not take me in and as we all know, it's impossible to find somewhere to do a last minute keratin treatment appointment. If an salon can't even write down the correct appointment when speaking to someone one the phone then I would hate to see what type of job they would do on my hair. I would never return to this salon! My daughter went to this salon because of a groupon we saw for $99 keratin treatment so we thought we would give it a try. Two things were wrong with this place. First, when we booked the appointment the salon told us we could pay them the $99 directly and didn't have to go through groupon. They are obviously not giving groupon their share of the sale where their salon was promoted. Integrity? I don't think so. Second, my daughter went on her own for the treatment since I was at work and couldn't go with her. I gave her $60 for tip lunch and extra money for the day "just in case". She mistakenly gave the owner Amy who did her hair the entire $60 for a tip on a $99 service. When I learned that later on the same night I figured I would call the next day. When Amy finally called me back she said she couldn't prove that my daughter gave her $60 and was unwilling to chalk it up to a misunderstanding. She said she couldn't give me cash back - why not? She is the owner - but offered a service instead. Why would I want to go back to her salon? She went on to ask me if I was threatening her when I asked if she wanted this mistake and her response to be included in my review of the salon. She then hung up on me. Now is that the way a seasoned business owner should handle a customer? I don't think so. Groupon should remove them from their list and you should not go there. read more

I went to Salon Nouveau for a keratin treatment (I had bought a groupon) and it was amazing! I have to be honest, I was very hesitant to go back to Salon Nouveau, as I had been a customer at their old location and was very unhappy with it. I figured I would go for the keratin and see how it is now under new ownership and keratin can't be messed up the way a haircut or color can. I'll be straight: The old salon was very cluttered, dirty, and no matter what stylist I had an appointment with, she was late (literally not even in the salon yet when I had gotten there) or very behind on appointments (probably because she was late to work). This resulted in a "rushed job" and I can sympathized with the lady a few comments down from me. I once had an experience like that as well because I felt the stylist was not paying attention and too busy continuing her story she was shouting to the whole salon and the other stylists. The place was a disaster! HOWEVER, it is not even close to resembling how it was back in the day! What a difference the change in leadership has made! The salon is smaller but it is much cleaner, more organized and the staff is great. It wasn't busy when I had my appointment so I am not sure if the stylists are as loud and "gossipy" as they used to be, but let's hope not! After my keratin, Amy provided me with a discount on my next service. That was very thoughtful and I definitely look forward to going back. If anyone is worried that Salon Nouveau is still the same place as before, I urge you to go back and I am confident that the staff is more accountable and customer driven than it used to be.
