Rushed service. Hair stylist MJ finished my hair cut in 10 mins, did a very basic cut, Did not do any styling though it was included in the hair cut package. Paid over $70 for only hair cut, no styling. Spent only 10 mins on my hair. When hair cut was done. Stylist who were handling the front desk were rude as well. I forgot my card in my car and my car was parked just in front of entrance door. I told her that I will quickly get my card and she started making weird faces, I said that I will leave my phone and wallet with her (so she could believe that I am planning to come back and pay) and she agreed with rude face. Finally when I was back with my card, her face expressions changed instantly Worst experience. Do not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

Since my stylist is new, I will certainly cut her some slack. I will refrain from using her name. She was very sweet, seemed to listen well and truly desired to give me the cut and color I wanted. In 4 or 5 years, I think she will be wonderful as a stylist. I'm not thrilled with my color ( my husband said it's too gray and it's supposed to be a toned down blonde) and the cut? Let's just say I won't get another cut for at least 7 months so this can grow out. I did appreciate that the salon was not loud nor did it smell like a salon. Will I return? Maybe. read more

I will never go there again! My wife and I have been clients of Salon Onyx for years and have seen Amy, the owner. My wife had an appointment today at 3:00 pm to see Amy, but due to the fact that the temperatures are so cold, plans had to change. So, my wife called right away when they opened to see if she could reschedule, and guess what? She was charged a $50 fee to change her appointment! We were absolutely stunned by this! To add insult to injury, my wife and I helped to support Amy during the COVID lockdowns by having her cut people's hair at our house. Now, she turns around and does this.... Unreal. We will never go back there and are sharing our experience with other people we know so they never go there either. Shame on them! read more

Salon Onyx did my hair and makeup for my wedding (as well as my bridesmaids, mom, and mother-in-law) and they did such an amazing job! I felt beautiful, and I still felt like myself, even though I'm someone who doesn't usually wear any makeup. They were super fun to work with, and were very open to changing things around to fit my style. read more

I have been seeing Amy for many years. There is always a warm welcome from the receptionist and everyone at the salon is very friendly. I went into see a new stylist at Salon Onyx that was running a 1/2 price special; I was quoted $58.xx. I while I was getting my hair washed she told me she would charge me extra for the toner, and extra color (my hair is just past my shoulders) that she had already applied. I went to pay and they had charged me $70 for the toner and extra color- $12 MORE than the full foil and hair cut?!? I couldn't believe it, who does that? What a SCAM. I wish I had read this review before stepping foot in there, beware before booking. I saw the extra notes on my ticket and receptionist was very rude, wouldn't give me a receipt. As read more

Would have really liked to try this place out but they cancelled on me 40 mins before my first appointment after I had booked 5-6 weeks ago. I'm a mom and it's really hard for me to get time away to go to the salon that's why I book out early. I was introduced to Salon Onyx through Groupon which I am always leary of since I am so horribly picky about my hair but it was a success. I really like my stylist Beth, who is such a nice person; a truly nice person, not one of those faky types and I can really tell she cares about making people feel good about themselves. I have been to Beth twice now and both times, I have been very happy. She knows what she is doing and does it efficiently which I appreciate. The only reason I can not give five stars is the location. You all know I am a city rat so driving to suburbia is not on my fave things to do list but aside from that, the salon is in a strip mall, tucked away on the back side. GPS takes you the opposite side of Dodd Road just FYI so don't trust it if you decide to head out. Give it a try! read more

I have been a regular for two years. I adore my stylist and appreciate the fact I schedule years worth of appointments each January. The loyalty points/perks are good and l have benefited from the referral program as well. I used to get regular waxings there as well, but then they had a change in staffing and the position was open for a long time. Have not visited the new person yet. read more

One of the worst experiences of my life. Lost over 6 inches of my long hair from a chemical hair cut by Liz. Then had to have the damaged hair cut off more. I was told by the owner Amy they did me a favor by being given a free deep 25.00 conditioning treatment to try to repair the damage they did. read more

Due to double booking, my hair was overprocessed to the point where it broke off and fell out. There wasn't a conditioning treatment, product, or anything else to save it. Accidents happen, but i didn't get an apology from my stylist. Instead, she avoided my phone calls (as I was searching for a remedy). Bad situation handled poorly. I won't be back. read more

Saw a Groupon deal for a cut and foil, so I thought I would give them a try being my hairdresser left the salon I was going to. Sally did my hair and she was so nice, and did a really great job. I will go back to her. I do think some of the stuff they have for sale there is a bit tackey. (purses, scarfs, costume jewelry), and not much for actual hair product. But it is a clean salon, and I really liked Sally and the girls that were working next to her. read more

I've been seeing Amy for a little over a year now. She does a great job interpreting what I'm saying when it comes to what I want with my hair. My hair is very fine and can be very difficult as times, but Amy does a great job giving me the right cuts to make it look fuller and suggesting the right products to use. She even ordered some Hair, Skin, and Nails vitamins for me when I as having some major issues with my hair. The price is fair and the atmosphere in the salon is great!! I gave this place a try through Groupon. I was able to get in within a few days (always harder to schedule an appointment if you work the typical business hour). It's within a few miles from home so very convenient, but it is definitely 'farther out' if you're not from the vicinity. The front desk was friendly. The salon was clean. So far so good. Several days after my haircut and I still like it! That's always a relief... I got a re-layering done by stylist Rachel (my layers were months old and needed a good trimming up) and she was lovely. My only qualm is that, when she asked me how I usually style my hair, I told her no product and usually air-dry, but just a basic blow dry, yet she still added product and did a (very thorough) blow drying with a round brush. It turned out pretty, I admit, but that only lasts a half day before my hair goes limp and looks oily. It always takes me 2+ days for my hair to recover from such styling. Bleh. However, that "complaint" isn't really a complaint. I have yet to find a salon/stylist who actually lets me leave without fancying up my hair in one way or another (ie add product to it and blow dry it like mad with a round brush). Do they teach that in beauty school? "Don't let the client leave without zapping their hair with heat and chemicals"?) Anyway, since it's par for the course I hardly consider that a valid reason to dock points. I just always wonder: Why do stylists ask how you do your hair at home if they aren't going to do it that way in the salon? Other than that, it was easy to set an appointment at this salon; great location (easy to get to); lots of parking; staff were friendly; salon itself was clean and the decor is chic. I too was introduced to Salon Onyx through Groupon as a gift. Upon arrival for my appointment, Salon Onyx refused to honor my Groupon, citing that I have "too much hair". I was told that I need to pay around $300 to obtain the very services listed on the Groupon voucher. Ridiculous. Regardless of whether Salon Onyx routinely bait-and-switch potential customers or if the stylists and management there are simply incompetent does not matter to me. There was no mention of limits on hair length on the advertisement or voucher. Completely unprofessional. read more

I am not a person to take the time out of my day to write a review....but, I was there Tuesday evening (June 17th) and everything went great until I checked-out. The receptionist was not friendly what so ever. She did not smile, did not ask if everything went well, and did not ask if I would like to schedule my next appointment. I felt uncomfortable and was not impressed. I feel that if I was not appreciated for my service. *Also, when I first got there to check-in, I was not greeted. The girls behind the front desk were talking and did not even acknowledge that I was there. AND when I scheduled my appointment on the phone I asked who I was with and how much experience they had. I was told 10 years and then I come in to find out she has 4. Which personally is not a big deal to me but if I was someone really looking for someone with a lot of experience and come to find out it wasnt true I'd be disappointed Other than that I enjoyed my service there!! :) read more

The worst experience. After this experience, 6 inches have broken off over some months. I had virgin hair down to my butt, not thin but fine hair. Natural dark blonde. Went to Cole's salon and she gave me heavy foils. Wasn't the white hair I wanted. An acquaintance I had made at work managed onyx salon. She told me that her girls at onyx were amazing and would give me what I wanted. I scheduled a bleach and tone with a girl there and when I showed up she immediately appeared extremely nervous. She seem to not know what to do at first and so she interrupted another woman during her own appointment to bring her over and asked "what she should do first." I was terrified. Mind you this was only my second time in a hair salon getting something else done besides a simple haircut. I asked her if she was confident in her skill set to successfully execute. She said oh yessss. She had given me a bleach and tone and after she was done washing my hair I turn and look in the mirror and not only is my hair orange it's also madded in knots. 30 min later I ended up brushing my own hair out because she started brushing from the top which is opposite of what you should do. I started going to Salon Onyx about 4 years ago and have been extremely happy with all my experiences there. Amy always has been great at offering suggestions for my hair cuts and color! I always leave there loving my new hair cut and/or color. Scheduling appointments has always been easy, more recently they offer text or email appointment reminders - which I really like. Today would have been my 3rd visit to Salon Onyx in the past 3 years using a Groupon for a facial. I always read the fine print on the Groupon and when I purchased this one several months ago it said nothing about being a limit of 2 Groupons per person. I purchased and made the appointment by phone, confirming that I would be using a Groupon. I arrived today and was told that I cannot use that Groupon since it would be my 3rd visit and they only allow 2 Groupons. I showed them the fine print on the printed Groupon I brought in and it said nothing about only allowing 2 Groupons per person. They offered to use the price paid towards a full price facial with the minimum price being $60. I only brought in $20 cash for the tax and tip. I told them that they cannot apply a new policy on a purchase made before they had this policy. I tried to speak with the manager but she wouldn't even get up to talk to me so the poor front desk receptionist was stuck with the news of telling me that I cannot redeem for this appointment. I actually took a vacation day from my job for today and drove almost an hour roundtrip to get to/from this appointment that never happened. The manager was extremely rude and snooty towards me. I understand they changed the policy but they should have told me that when I made the appointment and said I'm using a Groupon. They should have allowed me to use the Groupon today with the understanding that I could not use anymore. I feel bad for the staff member who would have done my facial since she lost out on almost a $20 tip. Also they have a former customer that will take any and every opportunity to bad mouth this salon. I will NEVER set foot in there again as they did not but the customer first or even attempt to handle this situation with any kind of decorum. Done with this place. read more

I had my hair done by Amy and was a bit let down by the outcome due to a lack of communication on my part...after expressing this, Jacquelyn immediately got in contact with me to ensure I ended up happy with my hair style. Both her and Amy were extremely nice and understanding, scheduling me in right away to touch up my haircut to my liking. DO NOT GO HERE! I tried this salon for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I was overcharged for putting extensions in. They overcharge for the extensions AND for putting them in. I was charged TRIPLE the price than what I was quoted for putting them in. I talked to the owner twice about refunding my money. She said she would not. I just had a facial with Emily using a Groupon Special. Emily was great and the facial was very relaxing, however, I was not keen on the facial room being smack dab in the middle of the salon. The door to the room has light coming through and I could hear laughing and conversations from the hairstylists on the floor despite the Peruvian flutes and running water music. I get facials all the time and usually "spa" services are separate areas but not here. Highly doubt I will go back, come on guys, Emily deserves a private place to do her magic. Don't go there. I had a groupon and when it came time to pay they charge me an extra $128.00 based on "miscommunication". This has happened to other people as well. The owner is also very unpleasant to work with. Will never go back there again. read more
