I've been going to Salon Roula for almost a year now, and really need to sit down and share my experience there. I've seen Katherine each time, the first few times I had longer hair and just needed to maintain it, and the cuts I received at that time were exactly what I asked for and looked great. Katherine made sure she understood what I was looking for, was very fun and made the experience enjoyable. Now for my big change! I had been considering for a while that I wanted to go short and sporty, but my grey hair has a mind of it's own and is hard to keep looking sleek, so I was afraid of it looking horrible when cut short. I can tell you that Katherine worked with the texture of my hair and gave me a short & sporty cut that gets styled "messy" so it works with me instead of against me. It looks great, is easy to take care of and style, and really works with my face. On the rare windy day in Chicago, it looks even better! I've been grey for a while and have never been encouraged to consider coloring it from anyone here, I have had that experience with comments at other salons just so they could sell more services, so it's refreshing not to get that here! read more

So I have been meaning to write this for some time but I just let life get busy and because I told myself I wouldn't return until I left a review I finally am getting around to it!! I got my haircut in June 2022 by Evi and while other reviews say she specializes in curly hair, I have long and wavy hair. She recommended some things I both had already been using and not using and she was very detail oriented. I love my length and so I was afraid she'd cut off too much but I also had no style, just length so her advice guided me right! I got long layers and she did an AMAZING job on my bangs. When I walked out I immediately got compliments by strangers and because I have so much hair, I was impressed at how much care she still put into it. In addition to this, she was great to talk to-I get weirdly anxious when I have to talk while getting a haircut but she left me at complete ease. In addition to this, everyone else was friendly. I've been to Salon Roula three times. The first time I went, Katherine gave me a cut and blow-dry and I was thoroughly delighted with the outcome. She asked me about my styling habits (products and tools used) and I told her I was a wash 'n go kind of girl and she said she was going to give me a cut that didn't need styling to look good and that's precisely what she did. I went with another stylist the next time I was in, because it was one of Katherine's days off and I was about to leave on vacation. I was NOT satisfied with the cut he gave me, but I made an appointment a couple of weeks later with Katherine and she fixed me right up! So I suppose my five star rating is specifically for Katherine, though the salon, itself, is very clean, attractive, and comfortable, everyone is pleasant, and the woman who does the shampooing and conditioning is both funny and good at giving scalp massages. read more

I moved here from Texas last year and along with not being able to afford to get my hair done, the water in my building has been incredibly harsh on my hair, basically destroying the last few inches on the end. I hadn't cut length off in 4 years and was very nervous about doing it with someone I had never seen before. Katherine did such an amazing job of talking me through the whole process, taking the time to understand my current hair situation, and making sure to offer as much advice for going forward as possible. She was meticulous in making sure that my cut came out perfect, and paid extra attention to my hair color. Despite me giving her free reign to do whatever with the color "as long as it's red" she still took the extra time to give me a color with dimension that was absolutely perfect for me. 100% will be back when it's time to trim up and refresh my color. read more

I just LOVE Salon Roula!! I'm new to the area and found it very difficult to find a salon that could cut my type of hair, curly (I'm biracial-black and European/white), but it can be tamed with a flat iron. I have a certain "style" (shaved, "fro"hawk) and didn't think that would help with this equation, I'm glad I was proven wrong! An up and coming stylist, Katherine Hirte, is truly the best of the best. She's not afraid to recommend a style or color and very confident in her work. Samantha was the one who did my hair and she is wonderful! She did a great job with the length and when she colored it. She also did a fantastic job with my highlights! She is very nice and doesn't make you just sit there like others do. She engages in conversation with you and makes you feel comfortable and welcome! She is wonderful. Roula has cut and colored my hair for over a decade. She is fabulous. I always get compliments on my hair. My son also has had his hair cut here for several years (he's now 22) and loves her. Roula really has a special eye for what is flattering and is particularly good at listening to her customers and providing them with whatever they need (or are ready for). Also her prices are so reasonable. She deliberately keeps them in a range that her long-term customers can afford. read more

I have been going to Roula for approximately 5 years and I sought out Yelp, having never used this website before, because I felt compelled to document how terrific Roula and this salon is. First, I love my haircut and color. Second, the prices are incredibly reasonable. Third, Roula is a gem in all respects; she comes in early, stays late, and will do almost anything for her clients. Since my hairstyle is short, it is very important that my cut keeps its' shape between salon visits. In the professional world, an attractive hairstyle counts for a lot. Roula is talented, creative and a real joy to work with. I am also impressed with the work of other stylists in the salon. I'm so glad Salon Roula is open again after the COVID quarantine! I've been back twice since the reopening in June. I feel very comfortable there. The salon staff are so careful and serious about cleaning & scheduling. They have a great system in place to keep staff & clients safe and healthy. When I went in I was not to sure what I wanted to do to my hair. When I sat down in her chair, she helped me figure it out by telling me what would look best on me. She did an amazing job. I have went to this salon a few times. And I must say I always enjoy going. they have a new receptionist who just has the cutest welcoming voice. the atmosphere is so friendly when you walk in. After many years of driving to a northern suburb for a very expensive and just ok haircut I decided to give Roula a try. I am so glad I did. Roula immediately came up with the perfect color and cut.
