Yuki, the owner and head stylist, is unlike any stylist I've ever been to. I moved to Chicago in March from New York, and after trying a few salons with less than desirable results, my friend recommended I make the trip up to Evanston. Yuki has the ability to look at you and a hairstyle and is very honest about how it will work with your hair type, face shape, lifestyle, ect. On my first visit to Texture I came in with long auburn hair, with the desire, and challenge of going back to my natural blonde state. She and her staff were completely sweet and hospitable, and I left with beautiful blonde hair. She also recommended ways of how to get my hair as healthy as possible, without pushing products in my face. My hair is both fine and limp, but I love volumous hair. Yuki showed me ways to attain volume (massaging your scalp) and I always leave feeling both radient and confident. My hair has been long with layers that give it movement, to a short victoria beckham-esque bob that look great not only at the salon, but even when i wake up. Since going to Texture, a handful and a half of my friends and family from various parts of the midwest have seen Yuki and had equally wonderful results. The staff is sweet, and Yuki is crazy fast. Sloppy & Shoddy Experience at Salon Texture in Evanston. Never, Never Again. This place seems to be run by an ego-maniac who did such a poor job on my hair and gave out the worst customer service that led me to write a scathing report on Salon Texture to inform others to not waste your money here. After an awkward consultation the owner/stylist colored my hair rather roughly and quickly, then told me to move to another chair to sit the color time out. I sat quite a long while, during which the owner/stylist chatted enthusiastically with and worked on the hair of 2 additional clients. I began to wonder whether she had forgotten about the color on my hair and felt anxious that it would not turn out correctly. My salon experience at Salon Texture was a disappointment as was the color. It was unpleasant, rough and totally hurried. I got the feeling that Yuki was not that concerned with doing my hair that day and I will not return. Thankfully, I have since found another Evanston salon and hair stylist and will frequent this other establishment from now on. read more

I am so happy that I found a wonderful local salon. Yuki really provides great cuts & color. Shhh...my cut is so good that I can stretch my visit for weeks. A couple reviews likened Yuki to Edward Scissor Hands. Well, don't be freaked out. It may take a little getting use to, but she is so talented - just extremely fast and efficient. After having long layers for years she gave me bangs. I was a little hesitant at first, but I absolutely love them now. She was also able to cover my stubborn gray, and make my hair really shine. I have received so many compliments! Let's not forget the shampoo experience. There is a separate area just for shampoo & conditioning. Angela massages your scalp and it feels so good. Finally, she also offers realistic styling and hair care options. Thanks to Yuki, I swear by Moroccan Oil to smooth out any dryness or frizz. My daughters love going to the salon too. One has wavy hair and Yuki was able to give her a cut to maximize her beautiful curls. I highly recommend her! read more

Yuki is not only the best hairdresser in Evanston, she's the best I've encountered in Chicagoland. I came in when Yuki first opened (after pretty much having given up on hairdressers in Evanston and Chicagoland in general) and I've been with Yuki since! I like my hair edgy yet professional, and easy to manage... I like hairdressers that know what they're doing. Yuki is a professional. She 'got me' from day one, no need for '30 questions'... She consistently and effortlessly gives me good haircuts. My hair is relatively short and grows very quickly, and traditionally I would go crazy after 4-5 weeks. Yuki's haircuts don't just look good day-of, they last longer, and many times seem to get a 'second wind' after a month. I always get compliments, from colleagues and strangers alike. The only 'issue' I have - I wish Yuki had longer nights and weekend hours, that would work better with my crazy-busy schedule. read more

Yuki made a loyal customer out of me!!! I was working a trade show in Minneapolis, MN. I met a girl who had a beautiful hair cut and commented on it. To my delight she had it cut in Chicago while visiting friends. She gave me Yuki's information and told me her friends go to her all the time and she did as well, when she was in town. At my first appointment with Yuki she talked with me and with the girl who was doing my color, so we could determind what the best cut was for me, and a cut that would show off my color as well. After the cut she showed me how to style my hair in different ways. That was over four years ago. I now go to Yuki for all my cuts and COLOR. I continue to receive great feed back about my hair from family and friends. Now that I know Yuki and her work I would not trust my hair with anyone else!!! read more

Great experience with Yuki and her assistant (sorry, Maddie/Maggie ?). Knee length hair...just got tired of getting it caught in the car door, the door knobs at work and whiplash from sliding into bed at night. So while visiting my 26-yr-old daughter and being referred to as "sister-wife", I went online looking for a Ouidad certified stylist to "carve and slice" my long waves into this century. Thank you Yuki! Yeah, who could deny Edward Scissorhands' creations weren't phenomenal, so the reference to Yuki is appropriate. I was listened to, pampered, and got more than expected with my new shoulder blade length along with styling demos and tips. I have been going here for years. I had very little style or confidence in my hair until I went to Yuki. She helped me feel good about the way I look...I can't say enough about how I appreciate that. Additionally we have gotten to be great friends. I am recently married and now my wife loves going to see here as well. I also wanted to respond to the highly negative reviews. What I know is that Yuki is highly competent when it comes to hair. She is an independent thinker, and she will share with you her perspective like you are an adult. I have always appreciated that about her. She has always shown me respect and courtesy, and most importantly I have always went home feeling really good about how I looked. read more

I am so angry as I write this review... I went to Yuki about 3 years ago. She was ok! So I decided to try out again this past month!!! What a mistake !!! She texturized the heck our my hair!! I had a picture with me and looks nothing like it should!!! She did not even tell me what she was doing . I have a Carol Brady haircut from the 70's!!!! It does not even blend well... If I would of read some of these past reviews I would have never tried her again!!! I just called her this afternoon to tell her how unhappy I am with this cut and I had to go to someone else to blend it in... She was just so cocky and RUDE!!!!!! I was back in Chicago for work and was bummed to find out that my old stylist from when I used to live there was no longer downtown. Her name is Yuki Lee and she was the best stylist I've ever had; my hair cuts have never been the same! I've had my hair cut and colored by many many people, esp. since I am in the media world and I used to write about salons for my work, but hers are definitely the best I've encountered. I was thrilled to find out that she has opened up her own salon in Evanston. It was the worth the trip from my work meetings downtown, and I'm glad to have found her again. Hands down, Yuki is the BEST. I went in there on a whim after receiving a postcard and it has proven to be the best, most fierce haircut I've ever received. Before Yuki, I would go to someone else and come out looking...the same as always. Friends and family would notice that I got a haircut but never have I received so many complements. With this haircut, people don't just say "DId you get your haircut?" - they say, "Wow, I love your hair!" And not only am I pleased with the results, but the overall experience as well. I have brown hair and just got highlights - a fun blend of honey, caramel and blonde! I fell in love with my 'new look' as Yuki, the stylist and her assistant blew out my new strands sitting in the chair at Salon Texture. Yuki definitely knows how to put texture and style back in your hair! It's worth coming a bit north of the city to leave feeling like you just stepped out of a salon on Oak Street for 1/2 the price! Yuki is energetic, talented, and fast. I've been with her for about 2 and a half years. Every time I leave, I feel better about my hair. If I ever want to change my "regular cut", I just ask and the magic begins. I got color this last time (brown with blonde highlights) to spice up my jet black hair. Yuki is patient and does not rush the process. The color looks almost 'natural' even though I have black eyebrows. Definitely glad I trusted her judgement. I was thrilled to discover Salon Texture when I was looking for a hair cutter after moving to Rogers Park this summer. I had gone in to get 1-2" trimmed off the bob style I have. Yuki gave me the best cut I've had in years, keeping the style but improving it vastly. She is a master of razor cuts--my hair has volume and movement, even without the use of product, which I don't like and usually forget to put in when I attempt to style my hair. Yuki rocks! I wanted to remedy there not being any male reviews for Salon Texture. I've been contemplating growing my hair out a bit after 10+ years with the same hairstyle. I've found it really hard to go from semi-short to somewhat longer since it usually looks really funky (In a bad way) when it is growing out. I told Yuki exactly that, and she cut it in a way that has enabled me to look great even while growing my hair out, I'm impressed! I have had short hair for about 6 years now, and hadn't found a stylist to give me a great cut before Yuki. I strayed from my over-priced former stylist on a friend's recommendation and tried her out, and I've never been happier with my hair! She listens to what you want while providing her own expertise that puts you entirely at ease. Also, I have naturally curly hair that is difficult to style, but with Yuki's cut it looks good all the time-- straight, curly, styled, just rolled-out-of-bed, etc! I am several weeks late in writing this review, but I can't recommend Yuki highly enough. I found her through Yelp, and within a few days I had the best haircut I've had in years, possibly ever. I've got really limp, straight hair, and layers often don't work on me...they leave me looking like a scarecrow. But Yuki's cut was fantastic, and a month later, it still looks great. Wow, what a breathtaking experience! Yuki is like no other stylist on earth. She danced around me with her magic razor shaping and shaping and shaping some more. Then came the ultimate blow dry experience, then the fabulous precision of the dry cut with scissors. What everybody says is true. I've never been so comfortable with a hairstyle in my life. I don't know why Yuki insists on thinning out your hair when your hair is nice and thick. The cut is decent, except for this aspect and she is very quick with the scissors. I've had really bad experiences with her hair coloring because she books 3-4 clients at the same time and I sit way too long because she is working on too many other clients. After she snatched the magazines out of my hands and said you can't read these when I'm trying to cut your hair, I never returned again. read more
