She did let me know that it is not a permanent Straightening Treatment but a treatment that repairs the hair and makes it much more manageable than its natural state. Honestly, I was not going to write a review if they had remedied the situation appropriately and if they had good customer service. This was not the case. I got a Brazilian blowout and all over color 3 weeks ago. The all over color was botched (about one inch of my hair from the scalp was a different color than the rest) so I had to come back for a repeat color/gloss. That turned out fine but it was another trip that I had to make back to the salon. She remedied the situation by providing a trim of my ends, which I appreciated since it was the week of my best friends wedding and I really did not have time for extra appointments. When I got the Brazilian blowout, I asked about aftercare and if I really needed to get the shampoo and conditioner. She said it was a nice line of products but she really recommended that I get the iconic bonding spray for sure for the amino acids, so I got that. She did not explain that they only offer a guarantee if you purchase and use the shampoo and conditioner. I definitely would have purchased them if I knew that. Fast forward a couple weeks. My hair is super frizzy again. The Brazilian lasted MAYBE 2 weeks at most?? For $185.... I was in the process of moving so I wasn't able to call until week 3. I spoke with the manager who said that I can come in at 9am on Friday and they will shampoo and conditioner my hair with the recommended product and blow it out to see if the treatment was in my hair. I come back to the salon (for the 3rd time in 3 weeks) and my stylist and another stylist (maybe a manager, I'm not sure) proceed to ask me what's going on. I explain what happened and my stylist tells me that she told me about the guarantee (so basically calling me a liar). The other manager? states that it's been over 5 weeks so that it's probably all out of my hair since I didn't use the shampoo and conditioner. I explained to her that it had not been over 5 weeks and that I was never told about the guarantee. They kept going back and forth saying that I was told and that if I went swimming or in the lake that it would come out (which I told them that I did not do). It just seemed like they were reaching for any excuse they could to make it out like I was in the wrong...awful customer service. Then they tell me that the manager left and that none of them have time to do the blowout. So basically, what was the point of me coming back to the salon?! I asked them to call the manager, which the begrudgingly did. They came out after several minutes and said the manager would be here in 10 minutes. I waiting 15-20 minutes and the manager arrived. He said that he spoke to them and said that what he can offer is a partial refund. I questioned why I wasn't offered another treatment to fix the issue and he stated that because I didn't get the shampoo and conditioner, that I was not eligible for the guarantee...which I was NEVER told about. So basically I paid for half of a Brazilian blowout to last me 2 weeks. PLUS the "ionic bonding spray" that was pointless because the treatment is already out of my hair. I am not informed about a guarantee for a product that I paid for, yet I am responsible for somehow knowing that was a stipulation. If I was really trying to manipulate the situation, don't you think I would have claimed that I WAS using the shampoo and conditioner? Super pleased with my keratin treatment! My appointment was at 12pm, came in and started right on time. Took about 3 hours total for the process. I love how the stylist (i forgot her name :/) walked me through the whole process. She is very knowledgeable about keratin and that is very noticeable as she gave a 1-2 min presentation on the product prior to starting. There is street parking for pay available. This is a smaller little salon (seems like it's run by mother and daughter). It's definitely not super fancy or bougie but I loved my keratin treatment so that's all that matters! And she (I think it was zoey) was really nice and let me work on my computer the whole time. I waited a few days after my appt to write the review because with keratin you only really know how it is after a couple washes. I live in Rogers Park and thought I'd support a local business and get my hair cut here. I've taken my son to have a kids cut here once and liked it. I have been growing out my hair for a while and asked for a 1 inch trim to cut off dry ends and some light layers. The stylist I initially booked with had to cancel so I don't know who I saw instead because she didn't introduce herself. She confirmed and showed me how much I wanted cut off after our consultation -- 1 inch. She ended up cutting off 4 inches, maybe 5 in some places. She kept cutting and cutting and I sat there mortified. My hair is now short, choppy and uneven. I cried when I got home. Haven't had such a bad haircut experience in years. It is going to take a year to grow back to how I had it. read more

This place is such a ripoff. They advertise a $100 keratin treatment but in the fine print at the store it only covers 1 oz of the bottle. So I ended up paying $200+ for a full head of keratin. The worst part is the keratin didn't even work. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and returned about 6 weeks later and go 1 oz more just on my roots. Zoey tells you you're getting a special deal and charges the Groupon $100 price for the 1 oz. again, which is exactly as its advertised in the salon. A week later and the keratin again did not work. First off I would love to start off by saying this place is so well coming and everyone there is super friendly and nice, I had an appointment on Wednesday to get my hair done balayage. Well, unfortunately the person who was my stylist at the time did my hair and it did not seem work out quite right for her, I let her blow dry it and stylet and I was like OK and I left kind of unsure. A day or 2 pass by and I thought by using the product she gave me, it will lighten up but it did not, so I reached out to the salon via email And they responded so quickly to accommodate fixing my hair right before Mother's Day that Saturday after 5pm, Alma stood after hours to do my hair and she did an amazing and incredible job. I would never go back to this hair salon. the women there is so rude and tacky enough to even yell at me to force me to buy an additional service. The worst hair salon in Chicago. 1. There is not even a legit signboard for the salon, so you cannot find it unless you remember the exact address of the salon. They might change the name recently, but the name of the salon is totally different one outside - salon Alma. 2. I purchased $99 deal for one keratin treatment at Groupon. My hair is exactly 3cm longer than my shoulder, and the female hairdresser here said since my hair is "too long", so I need to pay another $45 to get the full service. While making the reservation over the phone, I told her that my hair is medium-length and she said NOTHING but it would be enough for one regular dose of keratin treatment. She changed her words and justified it with lots of ridiculous reasons in a very disrespectful manner. - such as I am so proud of my job, so I need to be paid more. All the time, she was rolling her eyes and scolding at me with a loud voice. Very disrespectful. 3. She seems to be too proud of her hair certification - she emphasizes that she paid a lots of money for obtaining the beauty license, so she needs to be paid an additional payment to fulfill the service. She said since the price of $99 is not enough to make her beneficial or being proud of her job, so she needs to force extra charge on the customer. Why don't you put a higher price on the groupon deal from the first place, so you don't have to provide your customer ridiculously poor service in a tacky manner? 4. So unfriendly and impolite. I told her nicely "please take a great care of my hair", with introducing myself, and she was like "You are just getting the keratin treatment. I am just doing my own work. I don't care your hair turns out perfect or not." What the..? She said it is my freedom that whether I upload a yelp review or call the Groupon. The worst customer service I would ever gotten in Chicago area. I was not provided with water or any customer service, the minimum service I could expect from a hair salon. 5. The result of her work was so poor. After paying $150 bucks for my hair, I am totally dissatisfied with her result. My hair doesn't get straighten enough, I cannot feel any shine or improved smoothness. She never asked me whether I am satisfied with her styling or any of my concerns on my hair. Hope my review helps. My 2 hour travel to the salon was NOT totally worth it. I will definitely pay more and go to another closer salon with nice services and great skills, rather than getting hair done here at Zoey's. Zoey was clearly knowledgeable about the treatment and pleasant to chat with while she did my hair. I found them through Groupon. I'd recommend reading the FAQs on Zoey's website before going to the appt. She did charge $50 on top of the Groupon because I have thick hair (which would have caught me off guard if I didn't read her website first). I visited this salon on last Friday. I'm a woman of color that has chosen to go natural for 9 years. I've been going to the Egyptians but their shop is far way from my apartment so I decided to try Zoey out. I called to see if they do African Americans hair and she said yes. I just had taken my braids down and washed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair before I went to this salon. When I got there I was greeted politely and had a conversation with Irma before I sat in the chair. She went over the process and started. The end results was alot of frizz but straight the girl that we're sitting next to me hair was natural bone straight. I was shown 3 products that was offered to purchase and I decided that I didn't want it because I was going back to the Egyptians. I know they can fix it after the wait time of the keratin. I had to sign a wavier form because I chose not to purchase the $60 plus items. The next day when the wait time was over I went to the Egyptians and they straightened my hair. The place is welcoming, family oriented, and clean but I don't really think they know anything about African Americans hair. read more

I had a waxing Groupon so got a haircut from Alma while I was at it. The place isn't anything special or fancy. The atmosphere of the salon is definitely no frills. When I walked in there was radio blasting, and the static was louder than the actual music. I don't know why they kept it on for so long. Ambience =2.5 stars. The waxing was good. Not great, but she was very attentive, friendly and nice. Made me feel comfortable. It was also really fast. I didn't feel like she pulled all the hairs out which is always a bummer for me because then why wax, you know? But they have a deal on Brazilians for like $25 I think?? So I'd say it's worth it! Waxing = 4 stars. The haircut though... I don't know. Maybe it's because I have Asian hair and they don't have a large Asian clientele? I was most disappointed in how the bangs turned out. I asked for side bangs but such a large amount was cut that it sits more like straight bangs. I'd give the haircut 2.5 stars too. I purchased a Groupon for a full body waxing here, even though the place was 40 minutes and a Metra ride away (why does Chicago not have more affordable waxing salons?!) The salon is run by the owner (Zoey) and her mom, and services are by appointment only. It seemed to be more of a hair and nails place, so I was a little skeptical about having a good waxing experience but I was proved wrong! 1. Zoey booked a two hour slot for me, and did not hurry up. It was one of the most pleasant, unhurried and almost painless experience I've had in Chicago. Most places I've been to are rushing to get you out the door, compromising on hygiene and thoroughness in the process. 2. No double dipping, and she used a high quality wax that is meant specially for thicker hair growth (Thank you, Indian genes!), with a buffing cream, an antiseptic, and a follow up lotion as well. 3. They're really flexible, and let me swap out a brazilian for back and front waxing. 4. For the price I paid ($75 to Groupon), it was a steal! I learnt that Groupon keeps 60% of the sale, and that once you get a full body wax at the salon, you get a locked in price of $89 for the service on all your next appointments. A couple of minor negatives: 1. While I appreciate not being rushed, the whole process took almost 3 hours which is still 1 hour over the scheduled time. 2. Zoey could improve on being more thorough, but she's still setting up the waxing practice, so I'm confident she'll do a better job next time! 4.5 stars! read more

I discovered this salon on Groupon and am so glad I did. Zoey and Alma are both very skilled, personable, and knowledgable. You'd think that anyone in this profession would possess all of these qualities, but in my experience that's seldom the case. They also have integrity. When I asked about a service, they were honest about whether or not it would be beneficial for my hair type, rather than encourage me to do it just to line their pockets. Bonus: through them I've learned about a hair extension method which is less expensive for the consumer and healthier for hair than the alternatives. I've since asked practitioners in other salons about this method and learned that they weren't going to offer it because of the expense involved in being trained, and the fact that this method of installation is a longer process than the others. Zoey and Alma remain on the cutting edge despite the expense and inconvenience required of them. Previously my extensions were bonds, and I was under the impression that removal always involved pain and some hair loss. Whaddya know, Zoey and Alma know a method that is painless and does not rip out your hair, it just takes a little longer. The team is really good about getting in last minute appointments too! Zoey has given the absolute best haircuts I've ever received. She is efficient and really good at what she does. Twice I tried to go to different salons, and ended up back in her chair for a "repair cut." With coloring, I found it really effective to participate in a consultation where there was a discussion of what I was looking for and what would need to happen to get me there. Zoey has been patient with me and helped think through short term ("make me dark for the winter") and long term ("maybe someday I'll want to go back to blonde?") goals for my hair. I've been coming this salon for over 2 years and every time I received stellar service. Their team is very talented but after the pandemic their service has definitely gone downhill. I scheduled an appointment for a root touch up, I was seen 30 mins after my appointment time. While I waited45 mins + for the color to set I noticed my stylist was working on someone else at the same time. This is fine but I would've loved a heads up this would be happening. I was left on the hair washing station, laying uncomfortably for over 20 mins waiting for someone to rinse the conditioner off my hair. I had to get up because of the excruciating pain on my back. When my stylist noticed this she asked another stylist to wash my hair while she finished a keratin treatment. The stylist proceeded wash my hair and my shirt. Afterwards, I was left sitting in the washing station with my hair soaked. After 15 mins of sitting with wet hair and 2.5 hours into a root touch up appointment, I gave up and decided to walk away. My stylist was nowhere near done on her other appointment that she double booked and I left in 30 degree weather with hair that was dripping wet. I had to blow dry my own hair, although I was charged to this service. I also had to pay $60 to see a chiropractor for my back pain because of the extended time I spent laying in the washing station. I'm so disappointed, I expected to hear back from them with an apology. I thought during this time we had built a relationship and they would be apologetic for my experience, crickets.
