Less than 7 weeks from our wedding, one of their employees who has been doing my extensions for months, and agreed to do hair and makeup for our wedding, cancelled on me so she can go on a trip with her husband. Completely unprofessional and now I have the stress about finding someone new in very little time. Do not do this profession if you are okay with cancelling on your client when you made and a commitment to a very important day in someones life. I understand life happens, but a real professional would have set us up with other employees to cover the wedding for hair and makeup. Worst salon experience I have ever had. Jacqui raved about her hair coloring expertise and then she ruined by hair. It was awful, when I called back to get it corrected she refused to return my call. It took me three months using another salon to get may hair back to the way it was (albeit it was damaged by all the correcting). She also made rude comments about my age and said that when she gets to be my age she will have to get her eye brows tattooed due to thinning with age and she will have to get her lips tattooed for the same reason. I used Salon U for my wedding, and they went out of their way to make the morning very special. Everyone was very excited, they had out a plate of muffins and fruit, and all the staff had big smiles and were very helpful. The staff was great! Nails: We had manicures and pedicures the day before the wedding (would you believe this is one of the only salons in the area with more than one pedicure chair?!). The staff was great, friendly, and easy to talk to. I will say that the manicures were just OK - and my bridal party all agreed that the manicures were not top notch. Basically, while your hands feel great, with a closer inspection I noticed my cuticles did not look that cared for. I will say my french manicure was ON and not coming off (in fact I have dipped my hands in nail polish remover and still can't get it all off!!). Makeup: WONDERFUL!!!!!!! Alyssa rocks. She was so fun and exciting to work with. I really wanted a natural look - but enhanced enough for pictures and she did a fabulous job. Hair: When they are good they are good - and when they aren't they aren't! I was blessed to have a hairdresser who knew her stuff and my hair was everything I had ever dreamed (though she was having quite the convo with another stylist about her medical concerns...). A few of the bridesmaids hair updos were not that great and did not hold well. On the way out one bridesmaid asked for a dash more of hairspray because it didn't look like it would hold, and the hairstylist just handed her a can of hairspray to do it herself. Overall a good experience - but I would bring your own ideas for your updos and be picky about who you work with. My wedding was great though and I appreciated everyone's hard work! read more

I tried Salon U after reading online reviews and desperately needing a salon change. It was a great experience. I have been changing my hair color and cut for many years so I feel like I know a lot when it comes to what looks good on me and what doesn't. Alyssa was awesome, took her time with me, and actually listened! She didn't act like a know it all stylist and took the time to make my first time there a great one. My favorite part was at the end when she styled my hair she gave me tips on how to do it at home - without me asking her to do so. She also didn't push products. That always makes me uncomfortable. The salon uses Bumble&Bumble - which is also a huge plus in my book. Overall if you are looking for a salon that is professional, welcoming, and current without being intimidating or uppity - this is your salon. It has a great downtown Lake Orion location, super cute decor and is very clean with an open floor plan. My haircut and color were pricey, but within going rate - not out of range. I also appreciated how Alyssa talked me through her process and pricing, which made me more comfortable as a first time client. You get what you pay for, and I will be back for sure. PS-They were advertising Shellac manicures for $25! I'm going to check that out as well. read more

I've been going to Salon U since it opened its doors and have been a client of Lisa Miller's for over 18 years. I drive from Birmingham to Lake Orion every 6-8 weeks for my appointments. Not only do I love the work that Lisa does on my hair but I just love the atmosphere of Salon U and the entire staff. Most people might dread spending 2.5 hours in a hair salon on a Saturday morning but I enjoy going in there and catching up with girls who make you feel like their friend. Just recently a co-worker told me that she noticed my hair in one of our executive team meetings and how well my highlights were blended compared to the other ladies in the room whose didn't look quite as nice. I thought that was a nice testament to Lisa's work. You won't be disappointed with any of the girls at Salon U. They all do good work. read more

Salon U, was very organized and ready for our bridal party and family hair and make up on my daughters wedding day. The make up person made our make up define our eyes in a natural way for pictures and we were all happy with her artistry. We had a variety of hair designs and stylists, and the up-do's were fabulous! I chose to leave mine natural as it's short yet dress it up by pinning a rhinestone barrette on one side. My hair was a hot mess!! I'd had a bad dye job and tried to fix it myself more than once... Long story short, my hair was at least 5 colors with bad, stubborn roots. I needed help. I called and they fit me in that same day - on a Saturday no less! I asked for someone really good with color and they set me up with Alyse. She was so sweet - fun, easy to talk to. She mixed three different colors to set me straight and it was a lot of work, but my hair looks so, SO much better. The color is fabulous, exactly what I asked for. My hair is super shiny and healthy. The cut even looks great. I would recommend Salon U and Alyse to absolutely anyone. She did a fabulous job. Thank you, Alyse! You're a life-saver! I have to say that before today I heard all good things about Salon U and now not the case. I was scheduled to get my nails done with a group of girls for a friends bachelorette party. Two days ago they called to confirm our appointments and today 1 hour...yes 1 hour before our scheduled appointments they called to cancel. They said that one of their techs was sick and they were waiting to see if she would get better...As far as I am concerned, your not going to have one nail tech doing nine girls nails, so having one tech cancel is not the end of the world. Why not call us and give us the option of either cancelling the appointments or possibly reducing the number of services we are getting done. I am absolutely appalled by their customer service or there lack of. I would highly recommend that you DO NOT waste your time making an appointment that most likely will be canceled. read more

My 18 year old daughter went to Salon U for a color. Christine used A6 in her preparation. In the salon lighting the color looked acceptable. That evening when we went to a local restaurant, her hair appeared to have a gray cast to it. Under the flourescent lighting of a store, her hair was green. Mortified by the looks she garnered, we called the salon the next day. They informed her that she had to come in before closing so Christine could help her. Upon arriving, the receptionist was less than cordial, another employee other than Christine applied a toner to her hair, put her under a dryer & sent her home tangled, disheveled and still green. read more

I found Lynde at Salon U about 2 years ago. In that time I have had several different hair colors and hair styles, I like to change things up! Lynde has given terrific recommendations, and suggestions! I have been very pleased with all of the results. I feel contemporary, in step with style when I leave Lynde and Salon U. She has great suggestions on hair products, and is constantly educating herself on new styles, cuts, and products. This really is a great place, do not expect a $20 hair cut.
