Leaving this review on my mom's behalf, per her request: She went in to get a salt and pepper hair dye done, as she's going grey and wanted it to look better. However, she went in at 11 am and was out of the salon until 3 pm. During this time, the man working on her hair constantly left her, talked to others, and left to move his car from the street parking it was in. The total cost for this service was $157. All of the dye washed off the next day in the shower. Even before washing off, there were parts of her hair left uncovered. The hair that had been blonde (through her dyeing it) is now orange and her hair is gummy. We called to request a full or partial refund, however, were offered a chance for them to fix it. We called back to say she doesn't want them to fix it as she is already having a hard time with the way her hair looks, and just wants a refund. They refused and said they needed to see it and fix it.

My hair doesn't look like the reference photo AT ALL. She cut the entire front half of hair off and it is very choppy. I'm going to go get it fixed from another salon and never come back. I wish she told me she doesn't know how to do this haircut instead of ruining my hair.

And... this just keeps getting worse. "Christian" here decided to message me and blame me for the whole situation even going so far as to chastize me for even going to this salon at all instead of my "regular" stylist that I don't have. All of this to have someone contact me from the salon page to offer a free cut to fix it because supposedly I showed them a picture with straight hair. I did not. The picture I brought in along with my screenshots of the conversation are attached. So, also be apprised that after they are not taking proper precautions to protect against covid, they destroy the quality of your hair, they will blame you for the bad service and keep making you feel worse about it for days. At least that's been my experience.

Okay so after looking for a great salon that really cares about how you look, I finally found it. Chris is amazing!! He does such a great job. He is honest. If your hair is not going to look good at the end he will tell you, but also suggest to you what will look good. They have the best products to take home. My hair is so much softer and longer. I HIGHLY recommend both Chris and Omar to anyone that come here. Me & my daughter always have the cutest hair styles when leaving the salon!!

Great experience here at salon viejo, was looking for a nice salon in echo park and not have to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent cut... Found this place, called in and made an appointment right away Luis helped me out and cut my hair, he was very nice, polite and easy to talk to, i felt very comfortable with him and the salon, everyone knows going to a new salon / hair dresser can make anyone nervous, but not the case with Luis and salon viejo... I first heard about this place on TikTok and it was always in the back of my mind. I went today, with no inspo at all, when he asked me what I wanted I just randomly showed him a picture on Pinterest that was a cute layered hair with very pretty brown highlights. I went in with Chris, omg, he is literally the best, I 100% recommend. I attached a picture of the aftermath and I am very satisfied with my results. Life savers! I walked-in with botched up bleached and dyed hair and walked out with amazing, beautiful copper red hair. Kris and Aracely both worked in my hair. They were both kind & funny. They kept checking on me to make sure my scalp wasn't burning, which it wasn't! This morning I woke up thinking I'd have to go for multiple sessions to correct the damage but they did it in one visit & they did it beautifully. read more

I love coming here with my mom as a mom and daughter date. The hair stylist starts you off with making SURE to ask all of the questions to give you the cut and color you want. If you don't know what you want and yet are a picky or pretentious person then this salon is not for you. The vibes are very welcoming, a beautiful x-mas tree is up rn. HORRIBLE! Do not go to this Salon. I came in and asked for a trim. They cut off 12 inches! And they refused to give me a refund. Horrible quality. I grew my hair out for three years and they ruined it without any care. The man was late to the appointment and really unsafe vibe. read more

I have been a loyal customer for 20 years. I have dyed my hair at Salon Viejo, put extensions, gotten hair cuts, and Brazilian Blowouts. The hairstylists are professional and will ask the customer beforehand what they want done and ask for confirmation. They are welcoming. Great vibes at Salon Viejo. read more

Omar is a terrible stylist. Baseline, if you can't physically touch clients with care, CHOOSE ANOTHER CAREER. He flicked his heavy scissors on my forehead the entire cut and put his hands on me so aggressively; I seriously questioned what his problem was. He could not execute the cut I wanted; which I will admit was a specific technique and style: a baby bang. But he kept arrogantly saying he could do it, so I stupidly trusted him. Don't do that. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I walked out of the salon looking and feeling like shit. read more

I called last minute, Chris answered and told me to come in because they had room. I arrived and only waited 5 minutes with super cute Chloe before he started washing my hair and doing the cut! It was fast, affordable and honestly relaxing. I showed him some pics of what I wanted and trusted him. They had a tv which kept me entertained and alsoooo the doggy. Which sat on my lap while he cut the back side of my head. He also blow dried and did my do which was perfect for Friday night! I'm definitely coming back! There is meter parking all around but if your fácing east On Sunset towards the big car wash, make a right on Alvarado and there's parking with no meter. read more

Chris was so awesome! I desperately needed a cut after not having one for 6 months. I called after reading their reviews, and he said he could take me right away. The salon is cozy and you can tell they have been in the neighborhood for a long time. It's not fancy, but Chris' talent makes up for it. He and Omar were so kind and entertaining while I got my cut. I love how I can walk in with a very vague description of what I want that day & Kris nails it every time. Kris has cut, dyed, bleached, stripped, styled my hair. Every singe time I've walked out extremely happy! Omar fit me and my best friend in for blowouts 2 hours before. His blowouts are the most amazing blowouts ever!! His technique with the brush and blow dryer is like no other. I left with the most voluminous and gorgeous hair, my blowout took Omar less than 30 minutes. THANK YOU OMAR!!!! read more

Parking pretty much sucks but that's not the salon's fault. I was able to find parking by the laundry mat. I was too lazy to walk up the hill lol Anywho, as I first walked in it was very awkward because his tone came off as "I'm too busy" type of thing. As I sat there and waited ~45 mins for him to finish with his clients, I noticed that's just the way he actually talks and means no harm by it. Just thought I'd put it out there so you won't have the "what the hell?" first time experience as I did. Finally! It was my turn! He made me feel completely comfortable with my decision. He also made sure to give me tips about my hair. He also makes small convo with whomever he is working, which I highly appreciated! I'll definitely come back. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I had a bunch of hair on my shirt. It could have been the material, but I will never know until I go back. I'll update this as I continue to go ^*^ You won't regret coming here. I'm super picky with everything and I left the salon with a smile on my face :) BTW the man who helped me out was Omar. First of, I have natural long thick hair. I have never dyed in or done anything to it. The thickness, damage and puffiness was out of control so I headed to this location to chop it off. Chris whom had never done my hair recommended that I look into Brazilian Blowout. He recommended it, never said to do it asap but I was so desperate with my uncontrollable hair that I took a chance and told him to do it. He saw I was not sure but assured me that I would be satisfied. I was worried of the chemicals and so on but he reassured me it was to help my hair not damage it. He explained the process and after care blah blah. So I did it along with a trim and OMG I loved it. After showering I do not have to spend time doing my hair. I can just head to work. My hair looks shiny and healthy and not to mention it looks extra gorgeous when I straighten or curl it. read more

After looking at a few photos, I decided to go with a moderate cut to ease back into the general population. I was so happy with the results and would recommend Yuki to any of my friends. She will only take appointments and is the busiest during the weekend. I would recommend calling well in advance for your appointment, as she works generally towards the end of the week through the weekend.

I moved from tge west side and my usual stylist is so far now. She charges $20 for wash, cut n styled blow dry. I figured I could find someone who could cut hairas nicely and as cheaply. My usual stylist takes about 25 minutes to cut my hair in the V shaped, long layered style. This place only too 10 minutes which really alarmed me. It looks more like I have one shoulder length layer and a second mid bk lenth layer.. not cute!!! Its safe to say Ill be spending the extra gas n time to travel to my usual salon for a correction and future cuts. read more

I've been a customer there since I was 15 (I am 22 now) I love Chris and Omar, I never know what I want to do to my hair but I trust them so much, that I never care, I tell them to go nuts, always walk out of there feeling like a princess. Price is very affordable and they are a blast to hang out with. I recommend making an appointment though because if you walk in, you'll be waiting for a while. But the wait is worth it! The interior of the salon is gorgeous and everyone seemed friendly, however. To start, my appointment was set for 12:15 but my stylist was still finishing the client before, so I had to wait 15 minutes to be seen. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but it didn't leave the best first impression. Then when we were talking about what I wanted to achieve, I showed her reference photos and told her I wanted to even out my layers and keep the bottom length while refreshing and trimming the layers to look like a reference photo I brought. She insisted that I tell her the specific length I wanted off of my layers and I told her I wasn't sure what the exact measurements would be. I'm not a hair stylist and usually when I get my hair done my stylists don't have an issue giving suggestions during the consultation or using the reference images to gauge what to do, but she kept saying I needed to know the specific length to tell her to cut. Ultimately I ended up telling her one inch and she proceeded with trimming my hair. Once she styled my hair at the end, I noticed that there was quite a disconnect from my bottom layer with my top sections. The bottom layer looked uneven to me and unblended. It seemed too thick and stuck out from the top layers. I also explained to her that I have a perm that is growing out, and it looked a bit off after she had styled it. The top part was frizzy to me and the bottom looked choppy to me but she just trimmed some more while saying that the layers are actually all blended together, but it's just because of my grown out perm. I added a picture of my hair that is washed and dried at home to compare and it still looks unblended to me.

I went back-and-forth on writing this, but given that it's now been 10 months since the incident, I…read morehave to warn others. I spent years growing my hair to be healthy & strong, & I have ended up with fried hair that I have had to slowly nurse back to even halfway health. Come here if you want to be ignored, gaslighted, & end up with completely damaged, ruined hair. I do NOT recommend this salon for Black women / women of color / curly textures. This is long so buckle up. I originally reached out for a simple color service & was referred to Aly. I came in for a consultation and after an hour, she told me to continue texting her ideas so that we could figure the look out together. She then proceeded to mostly ignore me, & when she did respond, she sent photos of basic results nowhere near what we had discussed. Frustrated, I decided to come back in to just get my test strand toned back. She didn't even care to respond, just passed me off to the front desk. When I came back, I was asked if I wanted to consult with another stylist, Daniel, known for being "great with color." I have dark brown hair, & he assured me the cinnamon red look I wanted was achievable. In retrospect, having now lost my long & super healthy hair, still recovering from excessive chemical damage 10 months later, I WISH I had just walked out the door. For context, I had healthy, fine hair in long layers, anywhere from 2A-2C mixed wavy/curly textures, with length about an inch past my bust. I had defined curls, shine, & softness, & barely heat styled. Daniel lightened my hair with a low volume (supposedly) bleach & put a heat lamp on it. The heat lamp was so close to my hair that I moved at one point & it melted the plastic hair cap. After, I noticed my wet hair felt dry & tangled when he was combing, but I was trusting the process. When he started blowing out, my hair was WAY too blond & visibly dry. We had to tone it again. After another toner & cutting layers - 8 hours later - the result was pretty but felt parched, & also was not what we'd discussed color-wise. I was headed out of town the next day, so he promised to tone me when I was back & I trusted him. Fast forward - I shampoo my hair on vacation. My hair is GUMMY, breaking & pulling out in clumps. I can't stop crying. My super healthy hair that I could run my fingers through whirl wet was now inexplicably matted & dry, to the point I couldn't even work shampoo in properly. My curl pattern was DESTROYED. I reached out to Daniel & he put me in touch with the salon owner, saying my hair seemed "healthy" condition when I'd left. When I got back to LA, he did a deep conditioning treatment & a keratin treatment on the house, which helped somewhat. He also cut a few more inches off due to the damage - mind you, we had originally discussed that retaining my length was extremely important to me. He said to come back in 2 weeks for the toner to achieve the final color I'd requested. Traveling again, I got a simple wash & set at a local salon bc at this point, I couldn't even manage my hair on my own anymore on a day-to-day basis. Again, I do not do chemical treatments. The stylist told me I had intense chemical damage & chemically burned hair. I ended up having to cut off more, leaving my hair a little past shoulder length. I reached out to Daniel letting him know about the chemical damage; at this point, he said because I'd gone to another stylist he "couldn't service my hair anymore." He wrote a long text where he falsely asserted my hair was in healthy condition when I'd left & that it'd been too long since the service for him to help. Like...what? I had sent numerous pics & videos of the matting, shedding, gummy clumps of hair to both you & the salon owner & you're going to try & gaslight me? You told me to come back later! For him to try & rewrite history was extremely disappointing, & I lost all respect for him. Given his lack of integrity, I cut my losses, blocked, & decided not to argue about it further. I had to cut my hair a third time into a shoulder length bob. Now, 10 months later, I've been able to grow my hair a few inches with consistent trims, conditioning treatments, & protective styles, but it is still so hard to manage. My curl pattern has not returned to normal. At this point, I am STRONGLY considering a big chop, which was the worst possible scenario IMO. I will have to start over & spend the next few years growing back all the hair I've lost & restoring it to the health that I had before I ever stepped foot in this salon. I have spent 100s of dollars on bond building & reparative products, as well as follow up visits at other salons. On top of that, the immense stress & anxiety of losing my beautiful & healthy hair for what should've been a simple service was extremely, extraordinarily depressing. If you made it this far, do yourself and the health of your hair a huge favor and GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
